Don't give them a penny (or a peso)

Obviously we don't need to give money to the RNC or any candidate that thinks amnesty is something to vote for.

If we do end up with amnesty I will also blame the ag industry for pushing so hard. My new rallying cry will be "save the suckerfish, cut off the farmers water!"

If you want to ruin this countries culture, ruin my kid's schools, depress wages, and reward criminal behavior all in the name of have slave laborers then I think that the fish are more important than you.

Daniel, since the farming industry in this country is so heavily subsidized, and then takes full advantage of cheap illegal labor, and then spits in the eye of those who pay for it all....how about opposing any more farm welfare until they quit forcing illegal welfare on us? I, for one, am tired of whiners stealing my tax money, illegal or agricultural.

Daniel said...

suomynona, so you dispute that farming is subsidized by taxpayers?

Hey, backwards anon, I live on a farm without a subsidy, and eat what I grow and what I shoot. Jokes's on you, pal.

BTW, backwards anon, you'll figure out one day that most Americans walk the walk, unlike girly-men on the left.

Farmers huh?

It should be known that many of the Illegal Aliens in Oregon work for growers of Ornamental Shrubbery, not food crop farmers.

The warm climate and water availability makes much of the area perfect for such endeavors and cheap Illegal Alien labor simply allows Oregon growers to make greater profits.

Believe me, the Greenhouse businesses would be here at twice the labor costs.

I continue to stand against illegal immigration, and for several
reasons:

We are a nation of laws, and I oppose any accommodation for anybody
who breaks any of our laws.

We are a nation of immigrants, and that has made us the greatest
nation on Earth. But there is a difference: the immigrants who
came here in great waves came legally, and with the hope of
benefitting from the opportunities our freedom offered. And they
came with the intention of one day becoming an American citizen.
That's a far cry from the present illegal wave, because they regard
themselves as foreign nationals. They have no intention of
assimilating into the American melting pot; they're only here to
grab as much as they can.

I further take issue with the claims made by their apologists:

"They work hard." Well, some do, and some don't. I work hard, but
I know that there are Americans who don't. That argument carries no
weight with me.

"They do the jobs that Americans won't do".

Bullshit. They work in construction, and even as pilots. They
don't come here purely to pick strawberries. And in fact, there's
another law that needs to be repealed:

When I was a kid, I worked in the fields for spending money. Under
our "child labor" laws, a kid today can't work in the fields. So
they end up hanging out on the streets, getting into trouble, and
adding yet another drain to our economy. You know what? Detassling
corn and picking berries kept me out of trouble AND taught me the
value of a dollar. That we do not allow our children the same
opportunities to grow and learn, that we instead allow illegal
aliens to take over jobs that would benefit our children and our
economy - that is criminal.

Every claim that an apologist for the illegal alien invasion of our
country can make, I can repudiate.

The fact that they need to be just to compete just might say something about their employment of cheap labor

You mean criminal labor. The guy who is breaking the law isn't "competing," he's stealing.

A company whose labor costs are too high can't steal raw material in order to compete with their competitor whose costs are lower.

wadges? Maybe there's a reason you're getting those "low" wages.

If two people living together can't survive on full-time minimum wage jobs, then the problem isn't wages, it's a lifestyle problem. That's $30,000 annually.

"Wadges? Wadges? We don' got to show you no steenking wadges!"

Seriously, though, folks, let's do some math. How much do two people earn if they both have full time minimum wage jobs?

-Oregon's minimum wage is $7.50 an hour. (http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm#Oregon)
-40 hrs a week, 52 weeks a year is 2080 hrs a year.
-So : 2 people x ($7.50 x 40 hrs x 52 weeks a year) = $31200 a year.

tim lewis, you get an "A" in math AND spelling.

suomynona, I'm afraid you get double "F's".

Lars has a great idea for shutting down the employers who knowingly us liiegal aliens in their labor force. The IRS should tell all employers that if they knowingly hire illegals, they will not be able to deduct those wages as a business expense on their tax returns, thereby rendering the hiring of illegals all but over.

It's a great idea. One can only hope that the IRS will do something along this line.

That is doubtful, though. They would rather use their time going after someone who owes them $10.00 in back taxes.

My spelling must be pretty good.

Of course minumum wage workers pay taxes too. But that does not effect their gross income.

I can't tell if anonymous is coming or going (suomynona).
I for one would be glad to subsidize local family farmers to insure quality food. When I was a kid I picked beans every year to buy school clothes and have a few bucks to spend. It seems that we have a never ending supply of idle adults hanging out on our street corners begging for handouts. There is no such job that Americans won't do, that is just an excuse to offer substandard wages. If we do need to bring in outside laborers, then I think that is the responsiblity of those who employ them to feed, house and keep track of them. This can only be done with a strong border and strict documentation.

Daniel said...

So why not let the kids pick crops?

And getting caught up in gross vs net wages is pointless. But when referring to annual salary the gross is what people talk about.

Also, you would concede that not all farm laborers are illegal aliens right?

So obviously some Americans are willing to do that work, it is up to the employer to attract workers... legal ones.

BEAR said...

Backwards anon, please let us assume that you are sincere (I know, it's a stretch.) Without actual enforcement of existing laws, individual farmers are caught between behaving honestly and being economically competitive. The current house bill will create a level playing field, if it is actually enforced. By CLOSING the borders and eliminating the labor expense deduction for employees whose names and SSN#s don't match, ALL employers of illegals will hire ONLY legals......GUARANTEED!! Does that answer your question?

Racist

And there you have it.
That ends any and all discussion.

To be called a "racist" is a fate worse than being called a murderer, or child-molester.
So, when the charge of racism is hurled when ever there is no other argument you can think of to support your position - that's supposed to shut down the opposition?

[Remember folks, when you have nothing intelligent to say, resort to ad-hominum attacks.
