Hey folks, let's not be too self-congratulatory, Christianity has had alot of violence involved in it's history as well.

Why not talk about the irish famine? How about the Spanish inquisition? or the wars between Catholics and orthodox in the balkans?

Or how about all those countries invaded to christianize them?

And if the pope had nukes 900 years ago, he would have used them on those Albegensians in the south of France...

Let those without sin cast the first stone.

What shall we Christians do with this rejected and condemned people, the Jews? Since they live among us, we dare not tolerate their conduct, now that we are aware of their lying and reviling and blaspheming. If we do, we become sharers in their lies, cursing and blaspemy. Thus we cannot extinguish the unquenchable fire of divine wrath, of which the prophets speak, nor can we convert the Jews. With prayer and the fear of God we must pratice a sharp mercy to see whether we might save at least a few from the glowing flames. We dare not avenge ourselves. Vengenance a thousand times worse than we could wish them already has them by the throat. I shall give you my sincere advice:

First to set fire to their synagogues or schools and to bury and cover with dirt whatever will not burn, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them. This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians, and do not condone or knowingly tolerate such public lying, cursing, and blaspheming of his Son and of his Christians. For whatever we tolerated in the past unknowingly - and I myself was unaware of it - will be pardoned by God. But if we, now that we are informed, were to protect and shield such a house for the Jews, existing right before our very nose, in which they lie about, blaspheme, curse, vilify, and defame Christ and us (as was heard above), it would be the same as if we were doing all this and even worse ourselves, as we very well know.

Psst, Skookum, Check your calendar - it's 2006!
Unless you just want to bash Christians, in that case feel free to live in the past while the rest of the modern world moves on.
By the way, this was Papal policy, IIRC, and not the general sentiment in the Christian mindset.

Now, look out your window and take note of the crowd of angry Christians gathering on your lawn.

I've lived in Belfast in 1992, I've seen christian against christian violence first hand. Look at the riots in belfast two weeks ago when Orange Order tried to march through Dublin.

Want christain terrorists? how about the KKK?

What about the former Yugoslavia, where in the late 1990s Serbs (Orthodox Christians), Croats (Catholics) and Muslims all tried to ethnicly cleanse each-other? But is that in the dim past?

How about the poor Ugandians, who have tried to pull their country together and have succeeded except for a group of fundiomentalist christians called the Lords Resistance Army (LRA)? Who force boys into the army, make girls sex slaves, massacre villages, etc. they are on our countries Terrorist list.

Gullyborg_ You're right about how Islam got its start. But when the Christian churches tried the same thing in the Holy Land with the Crusades, the Muslims got their knickers all in a twist. And they are still all twisted up after some 1000+ years.

Don't everybody get all fired up about one religion over another. Remember, more violence has been done by the so-called Christian religion over the last 2000 years than by all the wars combined in the same time, as skookum said.
