I can't wait for my health insurance costs to go up

AHEC Spanish Interpreter Training Proposal Employer Workforce Training Fund:
According to the 2000 census, the Hispanic population of northwest Oregon has increased to 275,314 from 112,707 (in 1990), and an increase of 144%. Yet this official count does not capture the entire picture as there is general recognition that Latinos are significantly undercounted. In fact, one local Hispanic advocacy agency states that the number of undocumented Hispanics in the area is at least equal to the number of immigrants with legal status.

The project need statement goes on to whine about illegal aliens not being able to speak English at the "level that permits him or her to interact effectively with health and social service agencies and providers." To which I say: good! Come here legally and learn some English if you want health care and social services.

Your healthcare is going to go up anyway. GM has worked with UAW to reduce health care costs to save them from going belly up. I can't find much fault in this, as the Unions have destroyed the big 3's ability to competitively build and sell cars in the U.S. I read an article a while back that the Healthcare costs translate into about $1200 on top of the other costs of building a car at GM. Yeah, that makes it easy to compete with Honda.

I don't mind health care costs reflecting the market. I mind that health care costs increase due to crime. The crime of illegal aliens coming here and using health care without paying for it.

Speaking of learning English and health care.

The 23 Senior Citizens that died in the Houston Bus fire might have enjoyed improved health had the Illegal Alien that was driving the bus understood what other drivers were yelling at him about his rear wheels being on fire.

GM is NOT competitive because of their product, not insurance costs.
GM & FORD haven't caught up to the Japanese in 25 years of oppurtunity to build good vehicles.
Even the Koreans are now gaining on US makes and NOW the Chinese are coming-CHERY Brand imported by Malcom Bricklin. SELL your GM, FORD vehicle and stock while you can find a sucker that will buy it!

I drive an American car. I wouldn't buy anything else.

On my drive home I frequently see this one care with a "blame Bush for lost jobs being outsourced" bumber sticker... on a Honda.

I'm not going to re-quote you but I more than willingly buy American vehicles. I do not shop for an import, due to the fact I like to purchase a car that is at least partially supporting America.

Anonymous - you're either a moron or simply very misinformed. The reason that GM and Ford are not competitive is because of their outrageous pension plans and ridiculous union obligations (and to a lesser extent their health care costs) that are sucking the life out of them (hmmmm, reminds me of PERS...) Why do you think that when Nissan, Honda, etc build North American plants, that they do it in Tennessee and not Michigan? (Hint - cheaper labor and no union) That being said, I certainly won't deny that the imports have held serve on quality for quite a few years, although the gap is narrowing.

And who sells the best selling pickup trucks in America? Nissan entered the full size truck market about two years ago. All I have to say to Nissan is. . . Welcome to 1970.

Daniel, I have tons of imformation and opinion about American automotive companies, so I will stop ranting on your posting about health care with it.

What I did see on that news segment though, was that many companies have had their health insurance costs rise over 30% in one year. Even if they defer that cost to the employee some, eventually it will get to the consumer.

I like how anonymous fills his posting with deep meaning, but it is mostly just opinion. As far as asian cars go. GM owns Suzuki, Isuzu, and holds the market share of Daewoo, which is the BANKRUPT korean manufacturer. Ford owns Mazda. Zoom Zoom.

First off I want to say terrific blog! I had a quick question that I'd like to ask if you don't mind.
I was curious to know how you center yourself
and clear your head prior to writing. I've had
a tough time clearing my thoughts in getting my
thoughts out there. I do enjoy writing but it just seems like
the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost just trying to figure out how to
begin. Any recommendations or tips? Appreciate it!
