And here lies the problem

Kidnapped Journalist's Mother Pleads With Captors
"They've picked the wrong person. If they're looking for someone who is an enemy of Iraq, Jill is just the opposite," Mary Beth Carroll told a major news network.

"I, her father and her sister are appealing directly to her captors to release this young woman who has worked so hard to show the sufferings of Iraqis to the world," she said, reading from a written statement.

While I pray for this womans safety and feel terrible sorrow for the family I think that they have demonstrated the fundamental misunderstanding about terrorists. They didn't "pick the wrong person" because to a terrorist there is no "wrong person."

It is beyond even killing just "infidels" or non-muslims, they will kill anyone. You can't plead with them, negotiate with them, placate them, or convince them that you are not their enemy. The only thing you can do is neutralize them. I wish that more people would understand this.

Would help to eliminate a few of their incentives.

If they'll kill themselves to spread their hate, they won't stop with anyone else.

Yes, but they like it when we do that. Look at it from their perspective: al Qaeda lost two or three figureheads to a CIA airstrike, but we had to murder eighteen innocent Pakistanis in the process. It's like any suicide-bomber attack, except 1) the martyrs were terror celebrities, 2) we provided the explosives, and 3) we take 100% of the blame for it.

Nice trade?

I think we should liquidate all of them. (this is the part where the libs shudder or whatever the hell they do when people discuss doing the things that need be done) If we kill some people not involved, so be it. They are involved from this perspective. The terrorists are operating in their neighborhoods, and the civillians are protecting them by not telling the people who can root them out. So, if we need to waste an entire city block to kill some terrorists who may someday come to this country to do harm. Big deal.

SO feel free to say that you hope I am joking, or that you feel sorry for me and the way I think, or that you worry that people like me are the reason that there will never be peace. To that I have two things to say. THE TERRORISTS are the reason we will never have peace. Get that through your heads. The second thing.. "Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night, only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." For once, I wish that the nay sayers to the war on terror would just say thanks, and move on.

Your reliance on those labels never ceases to amuse me, Tony.

I think there's a misunderstanding here, though. You seem to be under the impression that we are fighting a war.

If Adolf Hitler had been assassinated, Germany probably would have surrendered within the week. If we kill Osama bin Laden, al Qaeda's only dilemma will be how to deal with a couple million job applications.

That has to be the dumbest thing I have heard you say yet Kaleri.

We are fighting a war. How about you and the other dumbasses join the team and come on in for the big win?
