What's the problem (at PCC)?
Yet another shining example of liberalism has infected higher education. P.O.E.T is a group of students and faculty who basically want to abolish cars. They say that we are running out of oil. Yep, can't get any more. No more to be found. None. Anywere.
In a completely unrelated story:
Senate Blocks Arctic Drilling Provision
Imagine a bussiness meeting:
Bob: We're almost out of widgets to provide our product/perform our service!
Joe: That's right, we are almost out of widgets. Woe is to us.
Jane: The world is ending, we won't have any more widgets!!!!
Daniel: Hey guys, we could get some widgets from over here...
Bob, Joe, Jane (in unison): NO!

"higher" education? C'mon, dude, it's an f'ing community college. unbunch your panties.
Daniel,
Anon is right. We can logically then make the judgement that these folks at the Community College are of course of inferior mind and therefore do not posses the capacity for rational thought. Their argument for banning cars has no merit. We can extrapolate from that, the argument against drilling Anwar is equally flawed. Only a moron would argue against such a needed asset for the United States. Thanks to anon that all of these arguments are made very clear, and how liberals view people in general.
OFF TOPIC
Hi Daniel! Just wanted you to know what I have been up to lately with regard to our ongoing conversation.
In the last post I mentioned that I thought your illegal worker focus was more than a little unfair because you did not give equal time to the law breaking employers who hire them and that those employers were the "ground zero" root of the problem. You protested by saying that I obviously haven't been reading your blog for very long because you OFTEN mention this side of the problem and provide information to readers on how to report these employers.
Well, I've been busy reading ALL your archives Daniel. So far I have made it through 4 months worth of blogs, carefully reading each entry and all posted comments. So far, out of approx. 115 entries and all the attached posts I have found exactly FOUR mentions of this problem. Do you still think this qualifies as even-handed treatment. Do you agree that this qualifies as OFTEN?
On your masthead, below your picture you say you will not rest until illegal aliens are treated as the criminals that they are. Why not include "and the law breaking employers who hire them..." to this mission statement? It would go a long way towards convincing people that you are not a sphincter-clenched racist who is simply bothered by having to live with people who are different from you.
I will continue to read your archives carefully and keep a tally each time I see reference made to the law breaking employers, but so far it is not looking good.....
You asked how I feel about the illegal worker problem? I am not happy that people from Mexico AND South America are coming here illegally in greater numbers than coming here legally. However, I view this fact thru more of a "human condition" perspective and less of a "letter of the law" issue." The thing about laws is they are made by man to address issues faced by men. Inevitably, issues change, and when this occurs, old laws are changed and new ones may be written. That is one of thereasons we have formal government. Clearly, thanks to good old fashioned capitalism and supply and demand, issues have changed with regards to illegal workers. Really, Daniel, yuou honestly believe that if they were all to be deported tomorrow that our country would continue right along with nary a blip in the economy? Of course there would be long lines snaking down the streets full of Americans clamoring for the jobs the illegals would leave behind. Yep....I'm sure thats the way things would unfold. Those jobs are hot man! White folks are just lining up for them! And, at 5% unemployment, tell me, exactly WHOSE job are they taking?
My problem with an open border is SECURITY related - and has nothing to do with the cultural elitism you have no problem displaying. My problem is that an unsecured border is an open invitation for terrorists to cross. But, Canada's border is far more porous and BIGGER.
We need to address this problem FAST. However, to say that all illegal workes need to GET OUT NOW is a little simple minded, in MY OPINION. It's like trying to stop teens from having sex....it just ain't gonna happen dude!
And this assimilation problem you seem to have....do you cuss at the Germans who refuse to give up their Oktoberfest or scream at the Irish when they have their St. Patrick's day parade? Do you go to Chinatown and protest the Chinese New Year festivities? How about picketing the French or Japanese language immersion schools in Portland? Why is your focus so limited to Hispanics? Thank God, our Constitution, and our Bill of Rights stops people like you deciding how a person needs to "act" in order to be a "good" American. Freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom of religion....those freedoms aren't just for white Americans.
Do you chastise ALL people for holding on to their family heritage in thier protected pursuit of happiness ...or just the brown, spanish speaking ones?
Well, I am not even close to being finished, but my monitor is going on the fritz....so later.....but, at the very least you should consider adding the lawbreaking employers to your mission stetement at your blog's masthead.
Merry Christmas from Woodburn!

I work for a fairly large corporation that occasionally employs illegal aliens. To speak to your comment:
"Why not include "and the law breaking employers who hire them..." to this mission statement?"
We do everything we are LEGALLY allowed to do to NOT hire and employ illegal aliens. However the State of Oregon and the Social Security Administration have hindered us quite a bit.
SSA will only verify that information provided with a Social Security Card is correct. For example if Joe Blow gives us his SSN and all of his contact informaiton, SSA will only tell us (Yes or No) if the information matches what they have on record. They cannot tell us if the name is the same, if the address is the same, if the person is deceased, etc.
Oregon goes a step further. If we knew without a doubt that someone was here illegally, we could terminate them (and we do), but reporting the criminal to the State Police will not net us anything due to the laws that our Blog host has so clearly pointed out (Oregon 181 laws).
As for your commentary regarding "...focus so limited to Hispanics?". According to the Center for Immigration Studies in 2000 there were aproximately 8 Million illegal aliens in the USA. Further, they esitmate that the number of illegal aliens continues to increase each year. They were estimating that 400,000 to 500,000 more illegals were entering the United States each year. These are entire cities of people crossing the border "ILLEGALLY". Further still, in most of the documentation provided by the Census Bureau and the CIS, they claim that Mexico is the prime source of the problem. NOT CANADA which you were so quick to point out.
I'm all for taking action against companies that knowingly hire illegal aliens. I'm sure that Daniel is too, However government policies enacted to protect and entice people to come here illegally are just as much at fault if not more so than employers who hire them, which has also been the focus of Daniel's wrath as of late.
daniel -- get off your high-horse; you worship someone who would publish this:
"I think the government should be spying on all Arabs, engaging in torture as a televised spectator sport, dropping daisy cutters wantonly throughout the Middle East and sending liberals to Guantanamo."
Jimbob: my comment ".....focus so limited to Hispanics" was not refering to illegal immigration...it was refering to Daniels oft' asserted opinion that people who do not discard their cultural heritage are not "assimilating" or becoming "good" Americans. My comment regarding his keen focus on Hispanics was with regards to this issue only. He really has a hard time with people speaking languages other than english and celebrating holidays other than American. It had nothing to do with immigration statistics.

Dear M-alien-gus, I can't speak for Daniel, but the reason I focus on the illegal Hispanics is because they are ILLEGAL. The other nationalities you mention came here legally. Big difference. Also, we don't have to spend millions of dollars printing government forms in their language and providing interpreters so that they can take advantage of public services that they don't deserve.
I am proud of my American heritage and will protect it to the best of my ability. I think everyone should be proud of theirs as well and love Octoberfests, St. Patricks day parades, etc. But stop trying to marginalize or deminish my culture with your multicultural, no borders, all cultures are of equal value, bullshit.
As far as the freedoms of speach and religion not only appling to "
White Americans" you are correct, but, this country's freedoms do apply only to Legal Americans. If you're not here legally, go home.
Heh. M-alien-gus. Humorous.
I was talking with our maintenance guy today about some facility issues, and during the course of this conversation, I stepped over to pour a cup of coffee.
"Man, I oughta start brewing my own, too," he said. "The place where I stop off to grab a cup in the morning is just idiotic."
"They cram the lid onto the top of the cup, which screws up the seal, and so when you go to take a sip, it dribbles out into your lap. I tried telling them not to cram the lid on, but they don't get it. Now, I can speak a little Spanish, but not enough to hold up a conversation, and these boys just don't get it. I'm like, okay, I may be related to some of you, but for God's sake, if you're gonna be here, learn to speak the freakin' language!"
The amusing thing, to me, is that he's from Mexico. He entered the country as a kid when his parents immigrated legally, and he's a US citizen.
Maleingus,
"Well, I've been busy reading ALL your archives Daniel. So far I have made it through 4 months worth of blogs, carefully reading each entry and all posted comments."
You must be the most informed American alive. With that wealth of knowlege you can go out and make a difference in the world.
Seriously, you present an important part of the illegal immigration issue, the one of employers, but it's just not my focus.
I certainly don't excuse bussinesses that employ illegal aliens, they should be punished to the point of bankruptcy if it is proved they hire the aliens knowlingly or should have reasonably known.
I still don't buy your "market forces" argument for illegal immigration though. There is certainly a market for illegal drugs but we don't change the laws to correspond with that particular market. I put the market for illegal labor in the same category.
You continue to paint me as a racist when you are the one making reference to skin color:
"White folks are just lining up for them!"
When have I singled out Hispanics? Are you under the impression that I don't like Hispanics or don't want them to live near me? Please provide some evidence of this.
Now to the topic at hand:
Anon1, Are you saying that people at community colleges are not intelligent? How about people who didn't go to college at all?
theduncan, I think that your inference may be correct.
jimbob, well said. Thank you.
anon2, and... what's your point? If I was in charge we would have a policy of burying dead terrorists with pig carcasses. And you may need to see the previous post about liberals not having a sense of humor.
back to maliengus, I do believe that immigrants should assimilate. I also believe that our culture is superior. The immigrants who come here must agree that America is better or else they wouldn't have come.
poedinoregon, we are one of the few nations without an official language and it's a travesty. I used to hear about those "bad Americans" who would travel as a tourist and expect people to speak English. It was liberals that would assert how selfish that was.
jay h8, it's always nice to here legal immigrant success stories. That's why this is the greatest country on earth.
Northwest Coating Systems in Woodburn KNOWINGLY employs illegal aliens.
Report them here:
