Fishwrap editorial boards demand recount

New Poll: Americans Prefer House Approach on Immigration
A new Zogby poll of likely voters, using neutral language (see wording on following pages), finds that Americans prefer the House of Representatives’ enforcement-only bill by 2-1 over Senate proposals to legalize illegal immigrants and greatly increase legal immigration. The poll was conducted for the Center for Immigration Studies.

When offered by itself, there is strong support for the House bill: 69 percent said it was a good or very good idea when told it tries to make illegals go home by fortifying the border, forcing employer verification, and encouraging greater cooperation with local law enforcement while not increasing legal immigration; 27 percent said it was a bad or very bad idea.

Support for the House approach was widespread, with 81 percent of Republicans, 72 percent of independents, 57 percent of Democrats, and 53 percent of Hispanics saying it was good or very good idea.

However, among Spanish speaking rapists who are currently in the country illegaly and have possession of more than an ounce of meth the support for the House bill dropped dramatically.

Yeah, Zogby also had a poll that said 52% of Americans think Mr. Bush should be impeached, but you cons don't mention that. Really, since when did you conservatives start listening to the "America Hating Zogby"? Any tool you can use to "prove" your hatred of immigrants is fair game. Sad really.

BTW: I just got back from your boycotted Cinco De Mayo on the Waterfront. There were more people there this first day than there was last year. Looks like that big boycott you immigrant haters got going really made a big impact. What a joke. I would venture to say that those that are boycotting Cinco De Mayo never go anyways.

How about the white american citizens who rape and do meth? Don't forget them. Good work at attempting to skew that fact to your agenda, better luck next time sport.

I'm a conservative and I think Bush should be impeached and thrown out along with Chaney. He's a liar and is dismantling this country piece by piece.

GEE!! Now that the legislators and the whole of Congres really know what the average American thinks on illegal immigration.....that means they will vote for the EXACT OPPOSITE. Count on it!!!! The voices of the criminals will matter more to them than anything else AND they will feel better about themselves that they helped some poor people who...Let's hear it everybody on the far left! ONLY WANT TO COME HERE AND WORK TO FEED THEIR FAMILIES!!!!!. GOSH!!! That sounds so good it almost made ME feel better.

Bruce writes (discussing immigrants): poor people who...ONLY WANT TO COME HERE AND WORK TO FEED THEIR FAMILIES!!!!!.

Bruce, I am impressed. You are finally starting to get it. See, there is hope that even a Ku Klux Klanner can trade in his sheet for a heart.

Anonymouse,

It's about time you cut the "immigrant haters" line. Everybody - including you - understands that that's a crock that you stir in just because you choose to be hateful.

Recent polls indicate that 75% of Americans want increased border security, which obviously places you in a very small minority.

Now, as for Cinco de Mayo, my friend Jesus - a naturalized American citizen originally from Mexico - tells me that Cinco de Mayo is, to use his term, "crap". He tells me that it's an American thing, not a holiday celebration in Mexico.

In other words, it's about as authentic as Taco Bell.

I guess as long as you're white, it's cool to rape and do meth...

Say, I saw an interesting little thing in Willamette Week, about the May Day march in Portland.

http://www.wweek.com/editorial/3226/7505 :
"Who saw the rally as an excellent recruitment opportunity?

Frito-Lay. Company representatives handed out packages of cookies with attached business cards that said, in Spanish, "Are you interested in a Career with Frito-Lay? Make a call to start your Career and 'Try the Success!'"
"

You forgot to post the part of the WW's article on how not even a handful of you morons showed up.

Um ... no. I didn't forget anything.

I just thought it was interesting that Frito-Lay is actively recruiting crooked employees.

Where were all the xenophobic counter-protesters? With Oregon's candidates for governor bickering over who's toughest on "illegals," one would have expected at least a handful of angry white men.

But we spotted only two. One, a guy with a crewcut, dropped his "We need a fence" sign 10 minutes into the rally and walked away when he saw a reporter heading over.

The only other anti-protester was an older guy riding a bike. He wouldn't give his name, but held two small paper signs reading, "Illegal immigration voids the relevance of my legal vote!" "I'm not against immigration," he said. "There just needs to be a debate. This isn't debate."
