And they don't respect me in the morning

The morning after the worst bill ever to pass the senate was approved I am not sure how to best describe my feelings.

And if you think that this is just me whining because we will be stuck speaking spanish forever or that this is only about law and order you're wrong.

If 2611 becomes reality the face of our country will change forever. We ceded our soveriegnty to Mexico with a last minute amendment that requires us to consult with that country before we build a fence on our own soil.

I am so tired of people saying that "immigrants are what make this country great" because that's just flat out wrong. Lot's of countries have immigrants and they certainly aren't as great as us.

Think about what sets us apart from other countries. You know, countries that don't have everyone in the world wishing they could be citizens of.

Our economic system makes us great. Our freedoms make us great. Our constitution make us great. Our national identity makes us great.

Having a large migration of people from one country come here does not make us great. It doesn't even fit with the "immigrants make us great" ideals that are espoused by the amnesty crowd because we are only talking about people from ONE other country. There is no melting pot there.

Oooops, angry rant has to end, late for work.

Claiming that Immigration of any kind is good is equal to claiming that any filling mix makes a good pie.

Just as it was proven about a year ago when a Salem restaurant worker found "mixing shit with the refried beans" looks to be a good blend but didn't sell well.

Today, you won't find him working there or anybody that might look like him.

Right on Bruce! Being a white legal citizen will not be good. And English, forget it you will need to go overseas to hear and speak that language.

Governing against the will of the people is becoming commonplace. We have seen it often enough in Oregon. Ironically, that process is one of the prime characteristics of the third-world. The fact that most of the people on this planet want to bring their families here is strong testimony that they can't get their own governments to emulate us or the will of their own people without resorting to violent rebellion, which the U.S. has also encouraged and abetted.

A number of folks have advocated for illegals, and indeed, people around the world, to organize and compel their governments to either change their practices, or their very form. The anarchists are engaged in this as we speak, but without the benefit of, or the desire for, a plurality of support.

So, here we are, 80% of the American people, not only being defied, but also being mocked by the lawbreaking anti-Americans who care nothing for what this country stands for. I include the U.S. Senate in that group. The wind they are sowing should make the rest of the world shudder. Without the power and promise that the U.S.A. represents, the legitimate hopes these people have for freedom under an (actual) representative government will be in vain.

The Senate has denied the rule of law by redefining it, just as the stupid Multnomah County Commission attempted to do. Soon, I expect to see in print the description of our own abhorrence of committing violence to free even ourselves, while we exhort others to rebel.

I believe we are still able to return our representatives to sanity by way of the ballot box. If that hope is ever taken away by a foolish and mocking "leadership".....look out.

"These "immigrants" are not coming here to make this country great. They are coming here with an agenda to tear this country up and sell off the peices like a garage sale. What is happening to this country is not coincidence...it is a planned, well executed takedown in slow motion."

Have you thought about what, exactly, the motivation for such an "agenda" would be? I mean, that's quite a cause for ten million people to devote their lives to.

Well, I suppose you could console yourself with historical perspective - this is hardly the worst bill ever to pass the Senate. You could try the Alien & Sedition Acts. Or the Missouri Compromise. Or the Espionage Act. Certainly there's a case to be made for the Patriot Act. Or the eighteenth Amendment. And that's just off thetop of my head, of course.

kaelri, in regard to the illegal "agenda," read the charters of mecha and la raza. They are printed and on display at high schools and universities all over the country, where they enjoy subsidized chapters. How can you deny the obvious so frequently...oh yeah, you're a lefty......sheesh. At least don't make yourself look so foolishly LAZY.

"kaelri, in regard to the illegal 'agenda,' read the charters of mecha and la raza."

The constitution of MEChA declares nothing more sinister than "educational, cultural, economical, political, and social empowerment within the Chicano community".

"La Raza", just being Spanish for "the race," is a name for about a thousand things, but I've looked at the organization at the top of the list - National Council of La Raza - which "works to improve opportunities for Hispanic Americans".

I don't agree with either movement. But if they have any broader agenda, I'd say they're trying to hide it well enough. Either that, or their local chapters and/or individual members are taking things into their own hands.

"How can you deny the obvious so frequently...oh yeah, you're a lefty......sheesh."

I don't believe I've denied anything, Bear. I'm mostly ignorant on these goings-on. I was asking you a question, that's all. It's a waste to spend any belligerence on me.

"Governing against the will of the people is becoming commonplace."

For what it's worth, the reason blacks aren't slaves anymore and women can vote is because Congress governed against the will of the people. This isn't a direct democracy for a reason.

kaelri,

Wow, you must have studied history in the public schools. Slavery did not end because Congress legislated against the will of the people. Slavery ended after the succession of the Confederate States and a civil war.

Kaelri,
You said you " don't agree with either ( La Raza, MEChA) movement. But if they have any broader agenda, I'd say they're trying to hide it well enough."
OK, I'll give you that. But for some research you might Google Nation of Axtlan, where you might find information leading to reports like this:
Under the euphuism 'Hispanic Homeland' and 'Nation of Aztlan,' activists from numerous organizations including Mexican American Legal Defense and La Raza (The Race) activists are attempting to annex large portions of SW United States to Mexico. "Republica del Norte," the Republic of the North, which would include the present U.S. states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, plus southern Colorado, along with several current Mexican states, is "an inevitability" says Charles Truxillo, professor, University of New Mexico. He further states the new "Hispanic Homeland" should be brought into being "by any means necessary."

I got the above from
http://www.illegalaliens.us/aztlan.htm

There IS an agenda, whether we like it or not.

kaelri, la raza "JUST being spanish for the race," Are you out of your mind? Please bring more to the table than racist ignorance. Words mean things.....except to lefties.....sheesh.

Going to respond in reverse-order.

"kaelri, la raza "JUST being spanish for the race," Are you out of your mind?"

I don't think I am - but then, crazy people don't know they're crazy, do they?

Please don't take my words out of context. All I meant was that the phrase "la raza" is simple enough that it seems to be used by at least a dozen organizations. The words translate to "the race," and I was merely pointing it out.

"Please bring more to the table than racist ignorance."

I would dearly love for you to explain to me how my contribution has been racist.

"But for some research you might Google Nation of Axtlan [sic]..."

Quite a few of them are crazy bastards, I'll grant you that. My question (which I'll look up if I have to, but you seem to be somewhat knowledgable, so perhaps you can tell me): how many members does the Nation have? And of that number, how many actually believe their platform and work actively to bring it to fruition? 'Cause from what I've read of them, I wouldn't be horribly surprised if their ranks were outqualified by the Flat Earth Society.

"Wow, you must have studied history in the public schools."

And continue to do so, yes.

"Slavery did not end because Congress legislated against the will of the people. Slavery ended after the succession of the Confederate States and a civil war."

Yes, I'm aware of when it ended. And the reason it took 80 years is because if the original Constitution had outlawed slavery, it would never have been ratified; and if it had been amended as such at any time in between, it would have brought on the civil war that John Adams called "the last battle of the Revolution." Which, as you aptly pointed out, it did, because Abraham Lincoln, a liberal Republican (I'd like to see a few more of those), said and did what he thought was right even though it meant nearly losing half the country.

Yeah, I learned some of this at a public school. Would you like me to tell you about popular sovereignty? Kansas-Nebraska? 36° 30'?

And if a political agenda that brings on a bloody civil war isn't "governing against the will of the people," would you kindly define it for me?

Now, obviously I have no intention nor desire of equating George W. Bush with Abraham Lincoln. I'm just saying that "governing against the will of the people" isn't bad on principle.

Dodgy Roggie,

"The whole "Latinos want to take over the United $tates" is so old and tired."

Almost as much so as your constant referrals to anybody who disagrees with you as a "nativist" or as somehow "anti-immigrant".

"Really, pull your heads out of your asses."

You first!

University of Oregon MEChA Website, Jan. 3, 2006)

MEChA isn't at all shy about their goals, or their views of other races. Their founding principles are contained in these words in "El Plan Espiritual de Aztlan" (The Spiritual Plan for Aztlan):

"In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal gringo invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlan from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny. ... Aztlan belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops and not to the foreign Europeans. ... We are a bronze people with a bronze culture. Before the world, before all of North America, before all our brothers in the bronze continent, we are a nation, we are a union of free pueblos, we are Aztlan. For La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada."

That closing two-sentence motto is chilling to everyone who values equal rights for all. It says: "For The Race everything. Outside The Race, nothing."

Wait a second - is someone actually arguing that MEChA is NOT a racist organization? Are you f-ing kidding me? Look at their motto. MEChA's intent is expressed quite clearly and its about as subtle as Mein Kampf.

In addition, consider some of the signs at the recent protests? Yep, sure those signs might not represent the views of every single attendee. Lets face it though, at some point one doesn't have to verify that every single member of a group is a devout racist to start having concerns. It is simply ridiculous, at this point, to say that there isn't a substantial and vocal racist element to the pro illegal immigrant movement. The fact that these racist elements are never criticized by their peers is all the more cause for concern about the movement as a whole.
