Tancredo for President!

Immigration’s U.S. Rep. Tancredo’s top topic
U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, a vocal critic of President Bush’s immigration policy, announced he would run for President in 2008 — if he could not find a more viable candidate to adopt his views on illegal immigration.

“I don’t consider myself a candidate today,” Tancredo said when asked if he is considering a Presidential run, adding, “If no one will take this banner up (illegal immigration) — and I say this with great trepidation — yeah, I will.

Tancredo’s primary goal, however, is to “push (illegal immigration) to the forefront of the Presidential debate” and persuade another Presidential hopefuls with more stature and resources than he to “take this banner up, not just with words, but their heart.”

Tancredo made similair statements on The Lars Larson national show on Thursday (6/9/05) which can be heard HERE.

Obviously he is our best hope for making this huge problem an issue in '08 and I will vote for him if he runs.

And he stands no chance in hell of actually winning but I guess that's okay.

His point in running is to bring the issue of immigration to the forefront. So it is ok.

Would it not be cool if he ran and beat the "B" word, she will not stop the issue for sure.

I think Tom has more chance of winning then most people think. Illegal immigration is on the forefront of people's minds today. Over 80% want illegal immigrantion stopped and our borders secured. Tom Tancredo can do these things. He's got my vote!

The current nativist rhetoric is blunt, and does not even come close to distinguishing between "hispanic" and "illegal immigrant". Thus, native-born Hispanics, offended by such clumsy nativist rhetoric, are certainly not likely to support anyone who aligns with it. Nobody who alienates the Hispanic voters can win a presidential election. But, Le Pen recently surprised everyone by giving Chirac a run for his money based on an anti-immigrant/French Nationalist campaign, so who knows.....

I am very clear about the difference between "hispanic" and "illegal alien." What is wrong with being blunt? Should I use kinder words to describe the criminals who violate our nations borders?

I wasn't specifically critizing blutness. Hell, be honest, I say. I also didn't say that you, specifically (though you did, actually, in another post where you equated Spanish Monolinguals with Illegals), fail to distinguish between Hispanic and illegal, but rather that the rhetoric du jour often slips into that mode. For example, when Lars, on his radio show, observes that so-and-so alleged criminal has a Hispanic surname, it seems that we all ought to speculate on whether he or she is in the country legally. So, it's understandable why others with Hispanic surnames may be sensitive to this kind of talk, and also why they would be unwilling to vote for someone who they perceive as aligning themselves with an anti-immigrant movement (due to reasons of ethnic solidarity and also, there may be native-born or naturalized Hispanics here who have family here illegally, and are thus even more sensitive to the issue). Why do you think no politicians dare touch the issue with a ten-foot pole? They have judged, quite accurately in my opinion, that to alienate the Hispanic vote is to commit political suicide. Again, I could be wrong. Look at Le Pen.

Tancredo broke his pledge with his constituents to limit himself to three terms in Congress. This effectively dooms any chance he might have had to run for a higher office.

Several congressmen (like Nethercutt) have broken their term limits pledges to constituents with detrimental consequences. No one who has broken his pledge has been able to win a higher office.

"Tancredo for President!"

ANYONE...I mean anyone who will at least try in a real fashion to stop the crap/excrement coming over our borders can and will be elected, otherwise you will get this political platform.

. SELF-DEFENSE of the community must rely on the combined strength of the people. The front line defense will come from the barrios, the campos, the pueblos, and the ranchitos. Their involvement as protectors of their people will be given respect and dignity. They in turn offer their responsibility and their lives for their people. Those who place themselves in the front ranks for their people do so out of love and carnalismo. Those institutions which are fattened by our brothers to provide employment and political pork barrels for the gringo will do so only as acts of liberation and for La Causa. For the very young there will no longer be acts of juvenile delinquency, but revolutionary acts. From the "Plan" La Rasa
