Oregon Firearms Federation alert
Portland's Mayor ...Pathetic Media Whore
Portland's disgraced Mayor, and self admitted liar, Sam Adams, having apparently run out of teen boys to "mentor" has turned his sights (such as they are) on firearms.
In a press release issued today, timed so most local pro-gun talk show hosts had wrapped up for the week, Adams proposed sweeping new anti-gun regulations for the City of Portland.
Adams, whose predilection for underage lovers follows in the footsteps of Neil Goldschmidt (a mentor of anti-gun extremist Ginny Burdick) is asking for comments on his proposals, which would violate Oregon law. The law follows:
166.170 State preemption. (1) Except as expressly authorized by state statute, the authority to regulate in any matter whatsoever the sale, acquisition, transfer, ownership, possession, storage, transportation or use of firearms or any element relating to firearms and components thereof, including ammunition, is vested solely in the Legislative Assembly. (2) Except as expressly authorized by state statute, no county, city or other municipal corporation or district may enact civil or criminal ordinances, including but not limited to zoning ordinances, to regulate, restrict or prohibit the sale, acquisition, transfer, ownership, possession, storage, transportation or use of firearms or any element relating to firearms and components thereof, including ammunition. Ordinances that are contrary to this subsection are void. [1995 s.s. c.1 §1]
In his press release, Adams actually brags about being a "founding member" of New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg's "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" an organization that is comical in its mindless pursuit of new gun restrictions each time their heavily restricted cities has a shooting...in spite of their gun restrictions.
We think it's safe to say that this latest PR stunt will backfire, just like everything else this sorry, freedom-hating loser has done. But anything can happen in Portland. So keep your powder dry.

State worker profile: Cynthia Velasquez Bogert
Because of her bilingualism, Velasquez Bogert has become a central fixture in meetings between teachers and Spanish-speaking parents, and in classrooms with newly immigrated students. At this school, more than 85 percent of students speak a language other than English at home. Immigrant and/or refugee students make up a majority of the school’s population. She says the diversity is what draws her to this community, in particular. But there are un-expected goodbyes — she’s had students attend school on Friday and then their family will be detained or deported over the week-end, she says. “We have learned to just let go, and know we did the best we could do during the time we had with them in school.”
3 cheers for illegal aliens being deported over the weekend and their kids no longer taking up our resources!
She’s helped undocumented students (who are ineligible for the Oregon Health Plan because of immigration status) access community health clinics to replace their eyeglasses or get their required immunizations.
Community health clinics = taxpayer funded health care. The United States is just doing the medical jobs that Mexico won't do.

When politicians talk about eduction funding these are the people that get supported. It's not the teacher who does math, it is the Spanish speaking psychologist who helps illegal aliens get social services. My new battle cry is: cut education funding by 20% and let's see what happens!

The U.S. Catholic Church's national anti-poverty initiative has awarded two Oregon programs with grants totaling $75,000.
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development has given $35,000 to a Forest Grove farmers market run by Adelante Mujeres and $40,000 to a Portland workers' rights project called VOZ.
VOZ is a worker-led organization of day laborers that develops leadership and empowers members to build relationships with employers. This happens through educational workshops and dispelling stereotypes about day laborers.
The campaign grant will help fund monthly leadership workshops, a day laborer advocacy and educational campaign; a day labor leadership school and the Day Labor Committee and Action for Immigration Reform.
If you are Catholic it's up to you to decide what your contributions to the church are going to be but you should know that your money is going to illegal alien advocacy groups that are pushing for amnesty.

They can't read but they can recycle
HB 2544, also known as the "No Child Left Inside Act," created the 11-member Oregon Environmental Literacy Task Force. The Task Force is charged with developing the Oregon Environmental Literacy Plan and reporting back to the Legislature by October 1, 2010.
Another meeting of public servants who will endlessly discuss how to "secure funding" for future meetings such as this.
Ultimately they hope to indoctrinate our children, not just waste taxpayer funds. These meetings are open to the public...

t was supposed to be some routine election-year largesse from Democrats: a $26 billion spending measure to aid two of the party's core constituencies, labor unions, and government workers.
But a watchdog Web site on Sunday evening spotted an unusual feature of the legislation, which the Senate approved by a 61-to-39 vote last week.
It doesn't actually have a name. Congress' official Web site calls it the "______Act of____" (PDF). Elsewhere, it's referred to as the "XXXXXX Act of XXXX."
No one bothered to name the bill but I'm sure that they all bothered to read it...

And of course Brett "it's all about me" Favre is once again holding a team hostage to his "am I going to play" decision. I know that he really really really wants to pad that "most interceptions" record but it's time to hang it up.
Oh wait, he wants to keep that "most time showing up for work" record going. Does anyone else feel the need for accolades when they show up for work? And keep in mind that we are talking about working 16 times a year. Because we all know that he's too good to show up to training camp.

Publik skool math?
Just when it appeared all hope had been lost, the U.S. Senate on Tuesday cleared a major hurdle toward approving a bill that will prevent mass teacher layoffs across Oregon and the rest of the country.
The Senate ended debate and set a vote Thursday afternoon on a bill that will provide $10 billion to keep teachers on the job, including $117 million for Oregon schools. Of that money, $6 million will go to Portland Public Schools, saving 64 teachers’ jobs.
Do the cheerleaders in the media bother to do the math on this? That's $93,750 per underpaid teacher who gets summers off, a week in spring, two weeks at Christmas (winter solstice) and every holiday known to man.
But we'll just keep our fingers crossed that all hope is not lost.

Allow me to golf clap for your intelligence. You specifically recommend that your new health care program cover illegal aliens and then worry that people might think that you... want to cover illegal aliens.
At first the health care group considered "funding clinics providing services instead of the individuals themselves" (page 14 of the PDF for their meeting minutes) but must have decided that deceiving the taxpayers isn't as much fun as simply giving them the middle finger.
Luckily they are able to keep some of their treachery by funding the illegal alien health care by abusing your employer:
Financing for this portion of the program could be structured so that industries employing non-qualified Oregon residents are directed to contribute through the “play or pay” requirement of the employer mandate.
That should be the new government slogan for everything: Play or pay - we are your masters and you will do what we say!

End state-sponsored racism
Virginia Sen. Jim Webb called for ending government-run diversity programs in a newspaper column Friday, saying they have disadvantaged struggling whites and hurt the cause of racial harmony.
Webb wrote an op-ed column in Friday's Wall Street Journal that said a "plethora of government-enforced diversity policies have marginalized many white workers. The time has come to cease the false arguments and allow every American the benefit of a fair chance at the future."
The race hustlers are squealing like stuck pigs at the thought of common sense emerging from a democrat politician. The buzz words like "diversity" and "cultural competency" have simply given government bureaucrats more authority to pick winners and losers as well as growing government by hiring needless workers to enforce state-sponsored racism.
I'm glad to hear that the pushback against this nonsense has spread to the ruling class but my guess is that Webb will be "clarifying" his statements within a week.

Tillamook County Health Department (TCHD) serves a rural area of 1,125 sq. miles and population of 25,845 people in Tillamook County, Oregon. The Health Department has been providing public health services since 1974.
Many low-income residents (14%) live in the service area, including a rapidly growing number of Hispanics, listed at 7% of the county population but more likely in excess of 15%. Of patients accessing TCHD 18% are Hispanic.
Special problems exist for the Hispanic population who are likely low income and not insuranced, but who also have language barriers to access local prenatal providers. The TCHD staff helps Hispanic women to get connected to prenatal and perinatal providers.
The service area has seen an increase in immigrants from Mexico and other Central American countries over the past ten years, and people of Hispanic ethnicity represent the largest proportion of the minority groups. About 30% of the students in the Tillamook School Districts are Hispanic. Differing cultural and linguistic backgrounds can be a major barrier to health care. Concerns about immigration status, poverty and language differences prevents people from seeking health services when they need it.
Government drones actually sit around and draft these reports. We fire employees who investigate rapes at the state police crime lab but have money for diversity workers to worry about illegal aliens seeking taxpayer funded health services.

We must fundamentally change how Oregon's government works. We will not only have to slow the growth of government, but we will also have to make sweeping changes specifically to the way Salem spends, the way we educate and how we compensate state employees.
To begin, I will be asking all government employees to pick up a percentage of their PERS contribution in order to decrease the total compensation costs. In addition, I will ask state employees to start paying a portion of their health care costs.
Finally, I will create a new standard for negotiations because we can no longer afford the one-sided negotiations of the past. I can assure Oregonians that taxpayers will finally have a voice in this discussion.
When the unions are unhappy then Oregon can succeed. Anyone who pays attention to politics here knows it's the public employees that drive everything. Every legislative session is a "budget crisis" regardless of the economic circumstances.
If Dudley will forcefully take on the unions then he is Oregon's best hope.

An Overall Annual Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Goal has been developed for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) participation in the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2010 federally assisted contracts.
ODOT proposes a total of 1 percent race-conscious and 10.5 percent race-neutral goals for FFY 2010, based on the fact that the statewide availability was 4.88 percent African American or Asian American owned for DBEs in the 2007 Disparity Study1, and the total Region 1 spending (Prime and sub) was 15.5 percent2 of total ODOT spending (0.0488 x 0.155 = 0.0076, rounded up to 1 percent). The race-conscious goal will be applied to African-American and Asian-American DBE firms for construction contracts only. No project-specific goals would be set for Native American, Hispanic American or non-minority Women owned DBE firms, and all participation by those firms would be considered race- and gender-neutral.
If I was black I would immediately form a business that makes telephone booths, dial up modems, CRT televisions and portable CD players. When I didn't make any money I would immediately claim to be "disadvantaged" and demand taxpayer subsidies.
If I still failed I would market myself as "green" to draw additional money from the government as well as fool the sheeple into buying my product or service. Imagine my marketing slogan: High speed internet means a larger carbon footprint! Go green and go back to dial-up!"
DBE is the modern KKK and ODOT is proud to be a part of it with our money.

And they find their money from taxpayers
“I left my country, and then I came to live in another culture,” says Maria Heart, pointing to the flag. She’s speaking in Spanish -- Heart married an American, but she was born in Mexico. Next, Heart gets out a Mexican flag and puts the two flags together. “Now I’m living in two cultures,” she says.
Heart and the other women are part of a group in Corvallis called the Organizacion de Latinas Unidas, or the Organization of United Latinas.
The groups started as a result of a health program at Casa Latinos Unidos De Benton County, a Latino nonprofit. Erlinda Gonzales-Berry, executive director of the nonprofit, got a $5,000 grant in September 2009 from the state Office of Multicultural Health and Services to create a health and nutrition program for Latina women. The program included a Zumba aerobics exercise class and a cooking class.
After the money ran out, the women wanted more. So Gonzales-Berry got $2,500 from the Benton County Health Department to put together regular Zumba classes.
Recently, the women participated in a rally on the Oregon State University campus against SB 1070, the new Arizona immigration law.
$7,500 in tax dollars for a racist group to do dance exercises called Zumba. Oregonians had to earn $83K to make the money to pay the taxes for this. How many times a day do our government overlords hand out this kind of money, meant for health care, for these purposes?

Corvallis: Not yet sure that slavery is abolished
What is it? Employers whose practices, policies, benefits and overall work conditions enable them to successfully attract and retain talent because employees choose to work there are known as “Employers of Choice.” The City’s Career Development Committee’s mission is to create an organizational development plan that positions the City as an “Employer of Choice.”
Only a government official could write something so inane. Can someone please name an employer where the employees don't choose to work there? Isn't that called slavery?
City best practices: To avoid confusion and/or duplication of effort, work on Employer of Choice as a social sustainability endpoint will build on that already in progress by the Career Development Committee.
This does not help me avoid confusion at all. The city of Corvallis has decided to be an employer of choice, as opposed to rounding up people and forcing them into a life of servitude, and it all revolves around social sustainability.
I'm trying to picture the job interview where the applicant asks "and what does your social sustainability plan look like?"

I haven't felt patriotic in quite some time.
If I had the money, I'd probably be living in Canada.

allows others to profit off the suffering of others (health care industrial complex, military industrial complex, prison industrial complex, etc.)
does not guarantee health care for everyone, regardless of ability to pay
does not provide a good K-12 education
does not guarantee full employment or make an attempt to have full employment
has a corrupt legislative branch (Congress)
is engaged in two wars that we won't win
racially profiles its own citizens (War on Drugs)
locks up more people than any other country in the world
has allowed itself to be corrupted by Big Business
does not treat everyone equally under the law
hardly gives a damn about its own citizens
That is all.
I am sure many of you can add more to the list but I am sure you get where I'm going with this.
So the original poster would rather live in Canada but doesn't have the money. I suppose a that getting a job to earn money is out of the question...
But the follow up comments are when it gets really good:

Save before you pay
State government should have a savings account to protect funding for essential services, like schools, in tough economic times. However, Chris doesn't believe the only way for state government to create a "rainy day" savings account is to raise taxes or keep taxpayers' income tax "kicker" refunds.
As Governor, Chris will create the Oregon Future Fund, making saving for a rainy day the first – not last – priority of state government. He will set aside 3% of forecast revenue into a fund only accessible for schools and essential services in times of economic downturn; a 2/3 vote of the legislature will be required to use the funds.
This is the equivalent of putting money in your savings account when your checking account doesn't have the funds to cash the mortgage check your just wrote. If that's what you do then your priorities are screwed up.
Stop "saving" our money. I'm not here to loan you 3% until you feel like you need it.

Residents of the small Nebraska town of Fremont have passed a controversial law aimed at ridding the town of illegal immigrants despite warnings that it could mean higher taxes and cuts in city services, the Omaha World-Herald reports.

The amnesty crowd can't win in the court of public opinion so they sue.

Anchors away!
Fifty-eight percent (58%) of U.S. voters say a child born to an illegal immigrant in this country should not automatically become a citizen of the United States, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
What a coincidence! That is also what the law says: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.
Thirty-three percent (33%) disagree and say if a women enters the United States as an illegal alien and gives birth to a child here, that child should automatically be a U.S. citizen.
The illegal alien enablers must be feeling a huge setback on this one since shows an overwhelming majority disagree with the current interpretation of the 14th amendment and the status quo.
Maybe parents are tired of hearing the schools cry poverty while going out of their way to include the Spanish language and Mexican culture in everything they do.
Maybe patients are tired of being in the maternity ward and realizing that a majority of folks in there don't speak English and aren't paying for the hospital visit.
Or maybe everyone is just tired of children being used as a political wedge to argue for amnesty for parents.

Multiple names... moves around...
Oregon's anti-methamphetamine laws have made it harder to manufacture the drug, but that hasn't stopped dealers from finding other suppliers.
Springfield police are looking for a man who they say is dealing a significant amount of meth.
Police are cracking down on dealers and suppliers, but despite those efforts police say meth use is still a problem.
Police are looking for 34-year-old Armando Cervantes-Bedolla who they say is a major meth dealer in the Eugene-Springfield area.
Police say Cervantes-Bedolla is an illegal immigrant who has entered the country illegally at least twice. He last lived on Taylor Street in Eugene, is known to frequent the River Road area and goes by several different names."In the computer, we have more than five names that he's gone by in the past. They're all similar, but they all change, a couple different date of births. He does change his name often," said Potter.
With a large number of people providing fraudulent identification instruments to facilitate illegal aliens being able to commit their various crimes in this country it is no wonder that these guys can manage to give multiple names, be deported multiple times and still be here doing damage.The only question is which name will he use when he applies for his amnesty, errr, comprehensive immigration reform?

I don't want anything from Miranda
On March 13, 1963, Ernesto Arturo Miranda was arrested based on circumstantial evidence linking him to the kidnapping and rape of an 18-year-old woman 10 days earlier. After two hours of interrogation by police officers, Miranda signed a confession to the rape charge on forms that included the typed statement "I do hereby swear that I make this statement voluntarily and of my own free will, with no threats, coercion, or promises of immunity, and with full knowledge of my legal rights, understanding any statement I make may be used against me." However, at no time was Miranda told of his right to counsel, and he was not advised of his right to remain silent or that his statements would be used against him during the interrogation before being presented with the form on which he was asked to write out the confession he had already given orally.
The Arizona Supreme Court held that the confession was legal but our Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that the rapist didn't have his hand held enough by law enforcement and threw the confession out.
Here is the relevant part of the fifth and sixth amendments to the United States Constitution:
No person... shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself...
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right... to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.
My right against compulsory self incrimination comes from God and is protected by our founding documents. My right doesn't come from a rapist.

Redistricting – or reapportionment – is the process of re-drawing the lines for legislative districts. Redistricting occurs every ten years in Oregon, and is supposed to allow legislative district boundaries to be redrawn in order to account for changes in a state’s population.
In Oregon, legislative districts are currently drawn by legislators themselves, which creates an obvious conflict of interest. Instead of drawing legislative districts fairly, politicians draw districts to guarantee their re-election, and the election of their fellow party members. A process that is supposed to be fair and non-partisan is now controlled by self-interested partisan politicians who ignore the basic tenets of fairness in order to enhance their own political power.
The Independent Redistricting Commission Amendment eliminates the conflict of interest and self-dealing by politicians by creating a non-partisan commission of retired judges – appointed by the chief justice of the Oregon Supreme Court – who are responsible for drawing the boundaries for Oregon’s legislative districts. By having judges – and not politicians – draw the lines, the Independent Redistricting Commission Amendment eliminates the conflict of interest that exists in the current system, and guarantees a fair process for all Oregonians.

Watching TV this week, at first I thought Republican Senate nominee Rand Paul had flown a commercial jet into the World Trade Center. But then it turned out that he had only said there ought to be discussion about whether federal civil rights laws should be applied to private businesses.
But as long as the media are so fascinated with the question of why anyone would want to "discuss" certain aspects of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, maybe they should ask Al Gore why his father was one of the leading opponents of the bill.
Or they could ask Bill Clinton, whose mentor, Sen. William Fulbright, actively supported segregation and also voted against the bill. Or they could talk to the only current member of the Senate to vote against it, Democrat Bob Byrd.
Go read the whole thing. It's what the mainstream media doesn't want you to do.

In a Rasmussen poll released today, Dudley leads Kitzhaber 45 percent to 44 percent, a difference that’s smaller than the 4.5 percentage point margin of error.
One fascinating number as you read through this survey — Dudley holds a 26-point lead among male voters, and Kitzhaber has a 22-point lead among female voters.

Immigration issue continues to swirl around Dudley and Alley in Oregon GOP race
Allen Alley and Chris Dudley, the two leading candidates in the race for the Republican nomination for Oregon governor, are still making news when it comes to issue of illegal immigration.Alley has been endorsed by Oregonians For Immigration Reform, a group seeking tough measures to bar illegal immigrants from working in Oregon. Jim Ludwick, the group's president, said he doesn't think an Arizona-type law would fly politically in Oregon in any event.
He's more focused on pushing lawmakers to require Oregon employers to use the federal E-Verify system for new hires, a position endorsed by Alley.
Jeff Stone of the Oregon Association of Nurseries said his group believes that tougher employer requirements should be made at the federal level, along with a broad overhaul of immigration law.
"For us, it's always been about fixing the entire system," Stone said.
Stone's group hasn't made a primary endorsement, but it is part of Ag-PAC, which has endorsed Dudley. The ex-Trail Blazer has also been endorsed by the Oregon Farm Bureau and the Oregon Restaurant Association, two groups also at loggerheads with Oregonians For Immigration Reform.
Allen Alley has been endorsed by OFIR. Chris Dudley has been endorsed by the the AG group and the restaurant association. I wonder which one is more likely to get illegal aliens to self deport from Oregon?
Which issue contributes to Oregon's culture, Oregon's budget, Oregon's schools, Oregon's jails and Oregon's quality of life like the issue of illegal aliens?

Another family ripped apart
Four Bend residents have been arrested – and at least three face likely deportation as illegal immigrants – following a traffic stop near Terrebonne and a drug raid at a northeast Bend apartment, authorities said Tuesday. Four small children at the raid location were placed in protective custody.
Later Monday afternoon, a search warrant was served at Lopez's home, at 2784 NE Mesa Ct., Apt. 2, Gautney said. Bend Police and Oregon State Police assisted in the raid.
At the time, three adults were present – Armando Quintero-Lopez, 29; Maria Guadalupe Sarmienta-Macjas, 25; and Irma Luisjuan-de la Cruz, 39 – as well as four young children, 2 months to six years old.
In that search, detectives found about 25 grams of cocaine, "in a location that was readily accessible to the children," Gautney said in a news release. Also seized were digital scales and suspected drug records.
We can't allow a little matter like drug dealing to continue to tear families apart. As long as Mr. Lopez is willing to pay back taxes on his drug sales and learn English then he should be able to stay at home with his kids. I'm calling on Bill Sizemore and his giant heart to advocate for this family. This is just tragic.

Because he can win
This may sound strange coming on the heels of his horribly misguided comments on the new pro-enforcement law in Arizona. Alley is wrong about that.
But he has the right solution for effectively combating identity theft and job theft in Oregon by making the E-Verify program mandatory for all employers.
Once employers are required to verify the legal work eligibility of their employees our illegal alien population will be forced to look elsewhere, probably California, for a place to continue their culture of lawlessness.
John Lim is a candidate that I really like and if I thought that he had a chance to win the Republican primary and the November general then I would vote for him in a heartbeat. But I don't think that he does. It is Alley versus Dudley. And Dudley WILL NOT do anything about illegal aliens in Oregon. He WILL NOT do anything about employers continuing to hire unlawful workers while Oregonians collect unemployment.
If Alley wants to misinterpret the Arizona law but stands with me on the principle of stopping numerous problems that illegal aliens create for Oregon then that's fine with me. You say "tomato" and I say "tomato."
Arizona's solution doesn't have to be our solution. What matters is that we get the result of reducing identity theft. Reducing the job theft. Reducing the drunk driving, the drugs, the rapes and all the other crimes that come along with people who have no respect for the law.
If you truly want to have an effect on the next governor's race your choices are Alley and Dudley. If you truly want to have an effect on the illegal alien population in Oregon then your choice is Alley.

Another acronym in Multnomah county whose job it is to redistribute income based on favored minority status. Are these reported health inequities the result of skin color or personal behavior and choices by individuals?

Voters in Marion and Polk counties could decide in November whether their county governments should police the hiring of illegal immigrants.
The initiatives would require employers with five or more employees to use E-Verify, which is the free federal service that lets employers verify if someone can legally work in the United States.
The group’s behind the initiatives, Oregonians for Immigration Reform and Americans for Prosperity, started signature gathering at last week’s Salem tea party rally. They said they think voters in the two counties are fed up with the immigration issue and are ready to take matters into their own hands. And since they are just trying to get the initiatives on county ballots, they don’t need to gather that many. Additionally, they said they are tired of pushing for federal and statewide reform - a tactic they said that is not working.
What can you do to help illegal aliens self deport in Oregon? If you live in Marion or Polk county make sure that you sign the initiative petition to get these measures on the ballot. If you live outside these two counties then consider making a donation to Oregonians For Immigration Reform.
But really this measure isn't about illegal immigration. It is about making sure that workers are legal and using their own social security number. This prevents ID theft and job theft.
CAUSA can argue that counties have no role in immigration policy but they certainly have a role in making sure that employers and employees are following labor laws.

I feel bad for the social service agencies
A Portland judge scolded the kingpin of a Mexican drug gang on Monday for damaging the lives of Americans from coast to coast as he ran methamphetamine superlabs, trafficked in cocaine and orchestrated vast marijuana plantations.
Thankfully the defendent only received a verbal scolding and not a sternly worded letter...
Ortiz-Oliva, whose principal operation was in Salem, presided over one of the biggest drug operations ever uncovered in Oregon. He ran a small, armed empire of distributors with connections to the Nocupetaro drug cartel in Mexico, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathleen Bickers.
Some of the Ortiz-Oliva gang's meth labs could produce up to 30 pounds at a time, causing a massive supply of the highly addictive drug at a time when Oregon's social service agencies were scarcely prepared for its ravages, Bickers said. The gang moved drugs across the nation.
The most important victims here are Oregon's social service agencies. Can you imagine what they were going through? No, you can't. That's because you have a productive job.
Authorities had to keep going back to judges for permission to tap his new phones, allowing the Mexican citizen to use the U.S. Constitution to stay one step ahead of the law, Bickers told the court.
Judge Brown ruled that Ortiz-Oliva was a career criminal, based on earlier convictions for a Salem shooting that left a man with a wounded hand; possessing meth with the intent to distribute the drug; and beating his girlfriend as she held one of their children in her arms.
He shot someone... had drugs for sale... and beat his girlfriend. I don't want this guy to go to jail, I want him to live in the same neighborhood as my congressman!

Other slogans considered were "we love using your SSN to avoid taxes" and "pay taxes to support our anchor babies."
I guess that if you paid zero federal income tax (since they claim to only do low wage jobs) and had various state agencies jumping through hoops to get you welfare then I guess that you would love other people paying taxes as well.

An audit by the Oregon secretary of state’s office says thousands of Oregon workers get away without paying state taxes because officials don’t do enough to identify them. The audit released Monday faults the state’s main tax collectors for not matching federal tax data with state tax rollsLet's list some reasons why someone might not pay their state income taxes:
1. They don't have a social security number.
2. They aren't working legally.
3. They have no respect for our laws.
It amazes me that we talk about how many illegal aliens are working in this state and then when an article like this comes around the intrepid reporters don't think to make the connection.
It's another one of those conundrums where you illegal alien supporters can't give a good answer to the question: Do people who aren't working legally file their income taxes?
If the answer is no then we have the above situation. If the answer is yes then the first follow up question is "why" and the second follow up question is "whose social security number did they steal to do it?"
Does anyone think that illegals feel some civic duty to give more of their ill-gotten gains to the state by filing taxes?

A legal discussion
Here is my take: we are a nation of laws. The police have to follow the same laws that we do. We should be treated the same when it comes to violations of the law.
So here is the law:
163.190 Menacing. (1) A person commits the crime of menacing if by word or conduct the person intentionally attempts to place another person in fear of imminent serious physical injury.
166.190 Pointing firearm at another; courts having jurisdiction over offense. Any person over the age of 12 years who, with or without malice, purposely points or aims any loaded or empty pistol, gun, revolver or other firearm, at or toward any other person within range of the firearm, except in self-defense, shall be fined upon conviction in any sum not less than $10 nor more than $500, or be imprisoned in the county jail not less than 10 days nor more than six months, or both. Justice courts have jurisdiction concurrent with the circuit court of the trial of violations of this section. When any person is charged before a justice court with violation of this section, the court shall, upon motion of the district attorney, at any time before trial, act as a committing magistrate, and if probable cause be established, hold such person to the grand jury.
That's it. Prove intent on the menacing or you have nothing. There is NO LAW regarding brandishing or displaying your firearm. You are free to open carry in this state and you are free to handle your firearm as long as you don't point it at someone or have the intent to cause someone fear of imminent serious physical injury or death.
With that being said, I have no doubt that a non-government employee would have been treated differently in the same situation. Where I differ from the majority of opinions on the radio yesterday is that I'm not arguing for the officer to be punished, I'm arguing that us lowly citizens should be left alone when we don't break the law.

Federal immigration authorities activated a new information-sharing system this week at the Clackamas County Jail, making it easier for deputies to identify criminal suspects who are in the country illegally.The system, developed by the U.S. Departments of Justice and Homeland Security, uses fingerprints, photos and biographical information. It will be extended to other Oregon counties in coming months as part of the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Secure Communities initiative.
Since its launch in October 2008, ICE's Secure Communities initiative has identified more than 18,800 aliens nationwide charged with or convicted of Level 1 crimes, such as murder, rape and kidnapping. More than 4,000 of those have been deported.
ICE also has removed more than 25,000 foreign nationals charged with or convicted of Level 2 and 3 crimes, including burglary and property crimes.
I will wait patiently for the outcry from illegal alien apologists who claim that they only want to "keep families together" yet somehow oppose common sense ideas such as weeding out the worst of the worst to make sure that they get deported.
Why don't the groups that push amnesty applaud actions to rid our country of the scumbags who make the rest of the illegal alien population look worse than they already do? They could release a statement saying that "we support the idea of Juan stealing your job and your social security number but the minute he gets a DUI we want him gone!"
While I'm waiting for that statement we can at least rest easier knowing that an illegal alien who gets caught driving drunk will now be deported rather than released to kill American citizens.

Portland School Board To Consider Support For Measure 68
An Oregon measure aimed at making it easier to pay for new school buildings goes before the Portland school board Monday.Portland district staff have recommended board members support Ballot Measure 68 at their meeting tonight.
But it’ll be up to voters across Oregon to approve or reject the constitutional amendment, in May. The measure would allow the Oregon legislature to issue bonds to match voter-approved school district construction bonds. The state’s involvement would be new.
It's never enough. I would love to have a reporter ask the public school teacher's "what per pupil funding is enough to do the job." We all know the answer: "how much will you give us."
During this election cycle ask your local candidate "how much is needed." Get a real dollar figure. No one will ever give one because then they wouldn't be able to ask for more.

Thursday night ramblings
I've realized that my ammunition habit needs a more stable funding source.
