Helping hungry criminals maintain "traditional diets"

Oregon State Univ Extension Helps Hispanic Families Stay Healthy
Hispanic immigrants often eat less nutritiously, once they leave their traditional diets and lifestyles in their native homelands and come to the United States - especially as children discover fast food alternatives at school and parents may begin working long hours.

"One of the goals of our Foods and Nutrition Programs is to help limited-income Hispanic families not only maintain traditional diet, but also improve it," said Lynn Steele, OSU Extension Family and Community Development Program faculty member, who works in Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties.

In her work, Steele has watched the diets of a number of families from Mexico, Guatemala and other Latin American countries turn from the more nutritional and traditional rice, beans and tortillas to American-style convenience and fast food.

"I can tell how long a family has been here by if they are eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches," Steele said. "It's a tell-tale sign. The longer families are here, the more Americanized their diets become."

Making safe homemade cheese is just one of the topics covered in Extension Foods and Nutrition programs in the metro area.

In summary: The goal of this program is to keep illegal aliens from turning to the American evils of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. These people are actually worried about illegal aliens becoming Americanized with their diets and are actively working to prevent that!

This is one more example of how illegal immigrants have no desire to assimilate. Instead they want to turn America into a northern province of Mexico. And our public institutions want to help them.

Two stories down, you are aghast at "social engineering" to reduce traffic and pollution but here, you want everyone to eat what we do. Do you have any concept of how twisted this is?

Peanut Butter was invented by prominent African-American George Washington Carver and was latter made from the crops of liberal democrat President Jimmy Carter.

Shouldn't the left be overjoyed that the Hispanic swing vote is adopting the peanut butter lifestyle?

Came across your blog for the first time today.

It's great! But I'm a little confused. Isn't calling hispanic folks "criminals" pretty overt racism. I got to be honest, it's a relief for someone to finally have the guts to speak truthfully about brown people ( something so many conservatives have a hard time doing in this day and age). But I read some of your other posts where I got the feeling you were against racism. So which is it? It's this sort of flip flopping that killed us in the 60s.

Sherwood's a great place to live. You're so lucky. You can get away from all those damn "no on 36" yardsigns and Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers that have yet to accept reality that I have to drive by everyday in NE/SE pdx. I heard property is through the roof in Sherwood. good thinking.

Anyway, what i'm trying to say is, we got to start looking at the big picture. We're running all three branches of the federal government. How cool is that. This is our time to let it out. If not now, when? With a little luck we'll be able to let the "n word" out of the closet if you know what I mean. Republicans need to get back to their roots. I'm talking Southern Strategy 2.0

Anyway, keep up the good work. I'll be watching.

p.s. When you come to portland you've got to eat at Cha Cha Cha, (NE Broadway & 26th), they've got the best Pollo Burrito, and best of all, they're good for you.

Don't care the situation - illegal is illegal and some have such a hard time understanding that concept.

Perhaps there would be less hunger in this country if people that are here illegally were NOT here?

I hope public funds are not supporting this program - it's ILLEGAL to assist felons! DUH!

In America it's wonderful, all you have to do is fake it.
Own anything you want, all you have to do it take it.
Live for today, don't think about tomorrow,
Have a good time in America-Gomorrah.
I want to be in America,
Okay for me in America,
Everything's free in America,
For a small fee in America.

For a small fee in America.

I have just stumbled on to you blog - I must say that as a non-American, I am appalled by your rhetoric. I thought that maybe Bush was elected because the election was fixed, but clearly racist small-minded people like yourself get out and vote. When will you learn that America is only an economic powerhouse because you exploit the most exploitable - that includes children, the eldery, the disabled, the improvished, etc.

Of course you must be a Native American to feel so strongly about illegal immigrants . . .

Your thinking is not only "fuzzy" as norb suggests, it is hateful and misdirected. Whenever you see the people of the world rising up in the streets (even in American streets), keep in mind that it is an American like yourself that they are fighting against.

You are a dying breed . . . have your last barks while you can.

Been gone for a couple days. Let me respond in order:

1st anonymous: I don't want everyone to "eat what we do" (I enjoy Mexican food) what I don't like is our public agencies teaching cultural values of other countries.

norb: Let's teach people that eating fast food everyday will make you fat, fine. The statement "The longer families are here, the more Americanized their diets become" would indicate some assimilation to our culture that our public institutions don't want.

2nd anonymous: America is a "melting pot." Great cliches don't make great arguments. And if you don't like America's system or culture then don't live here.

gullyborg: liberals are too busy throwing the "racist" charge around to think about the subtleties of this situation.

3rd anonymous: I'm not calling all hispanics criminals, just the ones who have come here illegaly which is against the law. And yes Sherwood is a great place to live, we have regular lynchings and cross burnings here. All the time. Really. You're a moron.

:justadog: Right as always.

4th anonymous: Nice song.

jwalker: I really am for personal choice. No one can make you eat healthy. You can go to the store and buy nothing but chocolate if you want and no one, certainly not government, should tell you that you can't. With regards to schools it is different, schools could choose to provide nothing but health food and that's fine with me. If the kids don't like it they can bring their lunch. And government certainly shouldn't be planning ways to teach illegals to eat better.

5th anonymous: I do vote. Feel free to elaborate on how America "exploits" all those groups you named. I am "native American," I was BORN here.

jwalker: Right on, you got no response I see.

6th anonymous: Oooh, you used my whole name, do you want a cookie? Calling me a Lars clone is a compliment.
