"The Plan" calls for some behavior changes on our part

Containing the Commercial Strip
Highways and highway interchanges are prime locations for commercial development. Highways
provide easy access to stores and offices and good visibility. Thus, over the last 50 years, urban
development has followed and been shaped by highway investments.
That makes complete sense to you and me. But...
The Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD) administers the statewide land
use planning program. Highway-oriented, auto dependent development is not consistent with two tenets of Oregon’s land use planning program.
A demand for major highway improvements is created -- at a cost the state simply cannot afford.
It's not often that you hear people talk about $3.2 billion not being enough...

Fighting nature
Democrats claim to fight for all things nature, they want things to be natural. Really they are just anti-capitolist but let's pretend for a minute that they really do believe in supporting a natural order.
Then why do they so adamantly oppose gender roles?
I was at Les Schwab last night and while I was watching the guys work I realized that they were... all guys. This is not because they discriminate but because women generally do not gravitate towards work of that nature.
So why does our society, and especially government, insist on creating the illusion that men and women can do and should do the same tasks?
The Portland Firefighters have this as a condition of employment:
Our Physical Agility Test reflects the minimum physical abilities you need to do this job. In the Physical Agility Test, you will be asked to perform several tasks similar to those performed by firefighters on the job. These tasks are designed to test your strength, stamina, endurance, agility and ability to work at heights.
They say to "check back" for the current testing benchmarks but I have to wonder, are they different for men and women applicants? Clearly men are physically stronger than women and can lift more weight.
Is giving a woman a lighter load a smart idea? I don't know about you but I don't want the woman firefighter, who didn't make the minimum requirements a man would have to, trying to lift me up and carry me out of a burning building. This kind of ridiculous social promotion could get people killed. (Remember the woman deputy who had her gun taken from her and the killing spree that ensued?)

Since I described McCarthy as a great American patriot defamed by liberals in my 2003 book, Treason, liberals have had two more years to produce a person—just one person—falsely accused by McCarthy. They still can't do it.

The election analysis by Willamette Week is interesting but the real attraction is the picture of a model with Teddy Kulongoski's head super-imposed on it.

Get ready, world: The folks who brought you the oil-for-food program are about to vote themselves control of the Internet.
This drama unfolds starting November 16, as 10,000 people from 70 countries are expected to pour into Tunis, Tunisia, for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), which is organized by the ITU, a UN agency. There, countries like Russia, China and Iran will insist that the United States surrender control of the Domain Name System. An international network, they will argue, deserves international control.
I'm having one of those "Michael Savage days" where I'm just not sure if I can take it anymore. I know what I would do if the government came to take my house to give it to someone else, (defend it with my life) or if a teacher gave a sex survey to my kids (pull them out of school and make it my life's mission to get the teacher fired, school board fired, superintendent fired...) but what can I do if the UN gets the internet?
The whole reason the internet works so well is that no government body is involved. Why doesn't Bush throw the UN out of this country?
The only bioethical issue that I am willing to support is something, anything, to bring Senator McCarthy back to life so that he can rally true Americans to fight against the subversive forces within our own borders.

The findings surprised the study's author, who is a pro-immigration Democrat. After crunching the numbers, economist David Denslow discovered immigrants — legal and illegal — were consuming much more in public services and paying much less in taxes than the average resident.
I'm almost getting tired of repeating all the reasons for why illegal immigration is so destructive for our country. If you don't know it by now then you are willfully ignorant and should be locked up in a padded room with a small window where doctors could administer sedative medication to you by air-gun darts.

Defeatist Chertoff
Chertoff: Not 'practical'to deport illegal aliens
In defending President Bush's so-called "guest worker" program for illegal aliens – which critics have dubbed an amnesty program – Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says it's just not practical to deport the millions of foreigners in the country illegally.
"The cost of identifying all of those people and sending them back would be stupendous. It would be billions and billions of dollars," Chertoff told Sean Hannity on the Fox News Channel program "Hannity & Colmes" last night.
In the classic liberal "we can't win the 'war on drugs'" mentality our Homeland In-security chief has said "it's too hard." This is the same government that can regulate how much water your toilet flushes and how wide your deck is, but heaven forbid they enforce immigration laws.
As for the "billions and billions of dollars" nonsense, I think that he must be talking about how much we spend helping illegal aliens. Drivers licenses, ITINS, every government document printed in Spanish, education, migrant housing, court interpreters, bi-lingual government employees, etc.
Maybe we don't need an all out manhunt (although that would be nice) but instead we allow local law enforcement to actually enforce the law, including immigration law. How about we make it very difficult for illegal aliens to work? Then make it very difficult for them to get government benefits. No work, no benefits means that they go home.
NOTE: I say "very difficult" because "impossible" is not realistic. But by "very difficult" I mean damn near impossible.
This is a perfect example of a problem that could be properly maintained but our "leaders" let it get out of control and now they say the mess is just too big to clean up. I don't accept that excuse from my kids and I won't accept it from my government either!

The Chamber is holding a meeting Tuesday night for Latino business owners and managers.
Alex Reyna is an Account Executive with KXOR 660 Digital Radio he says, "eventually the goal is to bring the Anglo business owners to participate so they learn how to market their products to the Hispanic community."
A Chamber of Commerce meeting for bussiness owners and managers of one particluar race. But don't worry, "eventually" they plan to inlcude the "anglo" community in all the fun.
I don't have a problem with this on it's face. Marketing to certain demographics, including race, is a part of bussiness. I don't have a problem with that and I'm not going to ignore reality. My problem is with the double standard. How can the media write something like this while their newsroom probably has a "Commitment to Diversity" poster on the wall?
What would the media say if a group of bussinesses catered to patriotic Americans and got together to commit to have no Spanish writing or speaking in their stores? I would patronize a bussiness that marketed that way but they would be condemned as racist by every newspaper and TV station in Oregon.
The double standard and racial immunity of some groups is just subtle racism. As opposed to the overt racism by the folks over at BlueOregon.com who try to keep black people from voting. (If I keep saying it then people will accept it as true)

I sent public records requests to all the large counties in Oregon. I have several projects that I'm working on and am interested in voter lists. While I am working with someone to aquire a list from at least one county, I thought that it would be interesting to show you the inconsistency between elections agencies in different counties.
My request:

Pursuant to Oregon's Public Records laws (ORS 192.420) I am requesting, in electronic form, a list of all registered voters in [fill in the blank] County. Thank you in advance for your prompt reply.

Do elections workers in some counties make minimum wage and others get paid 90K a year? Are they handwriting these lists? I can copy you and list of files on my computer in about 5 minutes and put it on CD or DVD. How could I justify charging $280?
The government has one definition for "reasonable" when it comes to a 13-year old's ability to pay for an abortion (any cost is too high) and another for members of the public to have access to records that should be produced on demand by law.

Anti-trust case
Those of you who were smart enough to listen to Lars today got to hear the most asinine of arguments from the proponents of land-use "planning" and it's supposed benefits.
High density housing and government transit are the staples of this urban utopia. But in the classic "which came first: the chicken or the egg" story I wonder which drives which? Is mass transit the natural response to high density living or are high density neighborhoods developed around mass transit?
Well according to LCDC high density is required to make state agencies like Tri-Met work.
High-density development, especially when coupled with mixed land uses, is regarded as critical to the success of public transportation and walkable neighborhoods. Such development not only provides the ridership needed to make public transportation financially viable, but it also offers a market for small local businesses located within walking distance of residential neighborhoods.

High density housing and government transit are the staples of this urban utopia. But in the classic "which came first: the chicken or the egg" story I wonder which drives which? Is mass transit the natural response to high density living or are high density neighborhoods developed around mass transit?
Well according to LCDC high density is required to make state agencies like Tri-Met work.
High-density development, especially when coupled with mixed land uses, is regarded as critical to the success of public transportation and walkable neighborhoods. Such development not only provides the ridership needed to make public transportation financially viable, but it also offers a market for small local businesses located within walking distance of residential neighborhoods.

Bush's IRS helps criminal aliens
State, federal representatives join consulate in Hermiston
State and federal agencies also showed up at the Mexican consulate’s visit Saturday.
They included representatives of the Oregon Employment Department, Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) and Internal Revenue Service’s Taxpayer Advocate Service.
“It’s basically for outreach. If someone has an unresolved problem with the IRS we can help them with that, or for them to get an I.D. number if they don’t have a Social Security number because we still want them to file,” said Jan Alexander, a senior analyst with the office.
Next up: IRS plans "outreach" to help drug dealers pay taxes on their "income" because "they still want them to file."
This is just a disgrace and Oregon has really pioneered it. In the simplest terms possible these mobile consulates are gatherings of criminals from a foreign county who our state and federal government actively assist in the further commission of their crimes.
If you are an illegal alien and you pay taxes that is presumtive evidence of a crime. You are not allowed to work in this country if you are here illegaly. I would like to ask Miss Alexander (of the IRS) how they feel about all these illegal aliens committing perjury when they fill out their I-9 forms to gain employment.
Why should I as an employee, or any employer, take formalities like government forms seriously when the IRS doesn't take it seriously themselves? (actually it's selective, they would enforce the law if a citizen perjured themselves on an I-9)
To have BOLI making sure that an illegal alien is making the proper wage is absurd. The proper wage is $0. For them to get a wage is a crime!! If you are an illegal alien then you should have a lunch break... all day! You aren't allowed to work.
So tell me, why should any employer or employee take BOLI or labor laws seriously when the so-called enforcers of the law are actively participating in violations of the law?
I hope that you will all join me and OFIR in Woodburn on December 3rd to protest one of these events. Let's make some noise.

community. It is the federal government’s job to enforce immigration issues.

easily forged and he doesn’t know if it is very useful. If someone is here legally, they would have
a passport and a green card and would not have a need for this document. He feels this is a way
to facilitate legalizing illegal aliens. He is not supportive of doing that.

Then we must get involved at this very local level. The city councilors who were on the wrong side of this issue should be demonized and thrown out of office. The two who supported us should be supported. Rest assured that a future post will have the current status of the commissioners, neccessary contact info for these people and a possible plan of action.

A disturbing new phrase
We all know that the homosexuals love to invent new terms and acronyms for themselves. I think that some people choose to be gay just so that they can participate in creating new catchphrases.
But in addition to terms like LGBTIQA, genderqueers, and intersex I found the most disturbing phrase yet:
Queerspawn. The children of same-sex parents. That just bothers me. Do these people have any shame? At Risk Youth
Definition—At-risk youth are unable to achieve the educational, economic, or social expectations of their community due to poverty, minority status, a deficiency in family support, or inadequate employment.
Being unable to achieve things can always be blamed on something, someone, some place, or some concept. One of the huge differences between liberals and conservatives in the attitude towards personal responsibility. Liberals simply don't believe in it. Conservatives recognize that personal responsibility is part of what makes America great.
Liberals don't think that people should have consequences for their actions. (unless the offender is a high profile conservative) Conservatives recognize that bad behavior without negative effects will only increase the bad behavior.
Liberals don't think that people succeed on merit, ability or ambition. They believe that failure is simply the result of some outside force (probably racism, sexism, classism, or some other ism) and that no amount of effort can overcome these isms. Conservatives realize that America is the land of opportunity. If you try your best, develope skills, and put forth your best effort while avoiding bad behavior then you will succeed.

Why today?
Today I was supposed to go to a meeting with Senator and gubernatorial candidate Jason Atkinson. Unfortunately my main computer's power supply went out and it just happened to have the email with the meeting location on it.

Dell is sending out a technician to replace the power supply on Mon or Tues. I'm half considering going to CompUSA and getting one myself...

Now if you referred to Woodburn as "little Mexico" a couple of years ago then Kevin Mannix would have called you a racist to Steve Duin. Recently the Fishwrapper wrote a lengthy article referring to Woodburn as "little Mexico" and it's just fine. (No condmenation from gubernatorial candidate Mannix who wants the immigration reform lobby's vote)
But what the Woodburn schools have done has taken that area beyond "little Mexico" to The Nation of Atzlan, soon to be re-occupied by it's bronze owners who rightfully deserve it.

Some transgender people talk about feeling from an early age that their gender identity did not match parental and social expectations. Others do not figure out their sexual orientation or gender identity until they are adolescents or adults. Often it can take a while for people to put a label to their feelings, or people's feelings may change over time.
So really there is no way to "know" if you are gay. It kind of depends on what popular culture says at the moment or if you are in prison...

Rubenstein was hired in 1980 as a bilingual (Spanish) and bi-cultural police officer by the city of Hillsboro. The relationship between law enforcement and the Hispanic community was not well-developed at that time.
Officer Hugs-a-lot is there to make people feel better. I'm not positive but I'm guessing that the relationship between law enforcement and the Drug Using community is not well-developed either.
El Centro Cultural is used, at international, national, state and local levels, as a tool for outreach to the community where members can be heard without fear of retribution, regardless of their immigration status.
Rubenstein stated his belief that the Washington County community, especially in Hillsboro and Cornelius, truly knows that the police follow Oregon state law regarding immigration status. This is a key issue in law enforcement agencies’ ability to provide basic police services to their communities.

Did we already lose?
All of us make jokes about "Hillary-care" and talk about our opposition to government run health care. Well, maybe not all of us, the folks at BlueOregon.com are still just talking about how to keep black people from voting (I keep saying it, people are going to believe it)
But step back, are we almost there already? Have we already lost this argument? Are we forming a neighborhood watch program and getting burglarized during the meeting? Can I keep asking questions like this without getting to my point?
I ran across this:

There are 17,000 children in San Mateo County without health insurance — mainly because their parents don’t know the county ensures coverage to everyone under 19 regardless of immigration status.
“They think they’ll be deported, but they don’t realize its irrelevant for getting access to these [health care] programs,” Hellerich said.
Oregon has something similair with the Oregon Health Plan. I'm sure that many states have something like this. Counties operate health clinics. The federal government controls vaccines. (hmm, wonder why we have shortages?)
This whole time we've thought that we won the debate but instead of arguing with us the government just went ahead and did what they wanted to do anyway. They seem to do that a lot... light rail, convention center, giving stuff to criminal aliens, etc.

I cancelled my Oregonian subscription less than two weeks ago and they have not let me forget it. I have done a couple posts on the endless phone calls that I have recieved but now they are coming to my front door.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — A man accused of helping thousands of illegal immigrants fraudulently obtain Oregon driver's licenses will soon learn his fate from a Washington County judge.
Twelve people have been arrested in the case, which federal immigration officials describe as the largest immigration fraud in Oregon. Eight have pleaded guilty and been sentenced.
Oregon allows illegal immigrants who can prove they live in the state to get driver's licenses, but prosecutors say most of Robleto's customers received licenses fraudulently because they lived elsewhere.

It has been more than a year since Oregon voters passed Measure 36, which changed the Oregon Constitution so that only marriage between a man and a woman is legal. Since then, advocacy groups such as Basic Rights Oregon have continued the fight to end discrimination based on sexual orientation.
BRO’s Web site states that in 2006, “the organization will launch a three-year campaign ... to achieve long-term gains in the fight for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality in Oregon.”
Daniel is announcing a three-year campaign to fight against the homosexualization of our society, the normalcy of mental disorders like gender dysphoria, and the breakdown of the traditional family as the social norm.
Yet even Oregonians who oppose gay marriage for religious reasons should acknowledge that all adults in consenting, long-term relationships should be awarded the same status under the law.
Uh, no, I'm not going to do that. And the editorial board won't do that either. "All adults" would include myself and five subserviant wives. I don't think that the Emerald would be very supportive of us getting the same legal status as a married couple. In fact, I'm almost positive that they would try to deny us our civil rights! They're hateful bigots just like those folks at BlueOregon.com who try to keep black people from voting. (If I say it over and over again then people will believe it's true)
My point is that we all draw a line about acceptable behavior. Yours may be further out than mine but that doesn't make me "hateful."

They hate Wal-Mart, love Mexico
The Wal-Mart haters never cease to amaze me. But one argument in particular seems especially ingeniuos: the loss of local dollars. I would accept the argument except that these same people have no problem with the millions that go down to Mexico from illegal workers every year.
In fact, Mexico has been identified as "ideal" for money laundering because we send so much money in "remittance" there anyway.

At first the riots were ignored, then portrayed as typical French-style protest, then as understandable acts of anger by an underclass made desperate by poverty, and finally they are being reluctantly described for what they are: race riots.
Obviously, the spontaneous army of Muslim “youths” burning Peugeots and nursery schools in France has not been properly assimilated, it is reported. Following this astute observation, it is usually added that France does not have America’s long history of successfully assimilating immigrants and that the French government needs to do something about that. Preferably, it should do something teary-eyed, big-hearted and expensive—like build the vandals newer housing projects, expand the already gargantuan French welfare state and celebrate Ramadan with a culturally sensitive postage stamp.

I wish that Republicans everywhere would stand up and shout that we are the party of education! We support our children being taught reading, writing, math, science, language arts and social studies. We want an education for our kids.

PSU faculty press for more cash
Portland State University faculty showed up by the dozens Friday at a State Board of Higher Education meeting to increase pressure on the PSU administration to meet salary demands. They also protested the fact that PSU, which has grown faster and larger than other state campuses, isn't receiving state money to match that growth.
For 2003-04, the average salary for a full professor at University of Oregon was $83,100; at Oregon State University, $79,400; and at PSU, $74,600, according to the university system.
Those poor underpaind Chomsky's. And the poor Fishwrapper who throws various numbers, dates and words around that don't even make sense. So if we gave more money to PSU, and don't be confused about who funds the school, it isn't "the state" or the higher ed board, it's us, but what exactly are we be supporting?

Joel began by working the typical undocumented immigrant jobs—busboy, hotel housekeeper, domestic, fast food worker.
After a short attempt at high school, Joel enrolled in Portland Community College taking English classes and working full time at night. First he earned his high school diploma and then his Associate of Arts degree. But all was not easy as Joel traveled the road to a college education. As an undocumented immigrant he could not apply for any type of financial aid. In order to pay his other expenses Joel taught Spanish at PCC and Clark Community College, and worked as a financial analyst trainee at the Bonneville Power Administration.
Let's see if I can count the number of laws that were broken in this "profiles in courage" piece.
First, Joel broke our immigration laws, then he broke our labor laws by working, committed perjury when he filled out his I-9 form to be employed, possibly committed another act of perjury and ID theft if he used a false SSN rather than an ITIN for his W-2 form, and I'm not sure if it's a violation of the law to waive someone's tuition if they don't legally qualify for financial aid.
So we need more money to support a school that encourages and aids criminals. Nice.

Portland State University faculty showed up by the dozens Friday at a State Board of Higher Education meeting to increase pressure on the PSU administration to meet salary demands. They also protested the fact that PSU, which has grown faster and larger than other state campuses, isn't receiving state money to match that growth.
For 2003-04, the average salary for a full professor at University of Oregon was $83,100; at Oregon State University, $79,400; and at PSU, $74,600, according to the university system.
Those poor underpaind Chomsky's. And the poor Fishwrapper who throws various numbers, dates and words around that don't even make sense. So if we gave more money to PSU, and don't be confused about who funds the school, it isn't "the state" or the higher ed board, it's us, but what exactly are we be supporting?

They are persistant
I got my second call today from The Oregonian (at 7:00pm) just now, they have offered me everthing but a free massage to get me to subsribe again. Each time I have admantly insisted that it wasn't an issue with price or service, but content of the paper. Specifically illegal immigration.
Each time they call I insist that they mark that down as the reason for cancellation. I hope that any of you who cancel, or have cancelled and receive phone calls, tell them the same thing.

Revelli Tire ( search) has been a family-owned business in Oakland, Calif., for 56 years. But if action by the city council remains on course, the tire store will have to find a new home or go the way of the dinosaur.
In July, using the power of eminent domain, the Oakland City Council evicted John Revelli from his store and locked the doors. The council's argument: One landowner should not impede the progress of a city on the move.
Oakland is going to give this land to a private developer and Sears (who sell tires) because:
"Sears is our only major retailer," said Oakland City Councilman Larry Reid. "We have a responsibility in terms of being able to keep Sears in downtown Oakland for what we hope will be a strong viable retail base."
And just so I can define "value" for everyone: Something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it or sell it for. Value and worth are mutually agreed upon, one side can't say that everyone got a fair deal if the other side disagrees.

Oregon State University will dedicate the La Raza Conference Room in the campus Memorial Union at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 29.
La raza is a Spanish term meaning the race or ethnic group, said Ines Ruiz-Huston, an OSU master's candidate from Portland.
So... you understand that you made a room for "the race" huh? And that doesn't bother you? Oh wait, I think I heard of something like this before. What was it? Oh yeah, we had drinking fountains for "the race" at one time. Whatever happened to those?

Portland police made a significant discovery while investigating a Portland residence suspected of being a methamphetamine purchase point.
Investigators say they found a computer in an apartment near southeast 137th and Stark that had thousands of transaction records and personal information from the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles for the years 1999 and 2000.
Oh my gosh, just think of all the illegal aliens who could become victims of identity theft now!

How to riot good, like dude, we is smart, jail good
The "world can't wait" riots across America (see below post as well) had some great attendees. These are the best and brightest that our public school systems could possibly turn out.
Some excerpts from the geniuses:
This is the demo, in a nutshell, as I saw it. First, I'm fairly new to this town, this was my second march - the first one being against the Primate torturers meeting at OHS a while back. Everyone met in Pioneer Square at noon and some peeps talked. Then we took to the streets, er, sidewalk. This is extremely fucked for me. There were two or three hundred people (but I'm not good with numbers) all having to stop at the red lights, on the sidewalks. This was not a permitted march.
This caused the march to be segrigated...
So I'm pretty dumbfounded as to why the police have so much power in this town. Portland is such a "lefty" place. I was expecting a LOT of people at this Nation Wide Demo. Everyone here is a bike riding vegan artist - where WERE those people today?

It was actually such a pathetic attempt at arrest that it likely doesn't count. An officer standing along the curb pointed at a kid in the crowd and said, "You. You're under arrest." Then he made this silly motion with his hand and said, "C'mon." The kid declined to go with him, and the situation resolved without incident.)
I know of a lot of arrests that "likely [don't] count," especially ones that involve the extra crime of resisting arrest. Oh wait, no I don't.
Second, as was first pointed out to me by a comrade, people seem to have overcome their aversion to unarrests. There were some very valiant and successful efforts in this regard. And finally, I was heartened to see so many people head for the jail after the main march, in solidarity with those who were arrested.
Clearly these marchers represent the average American... the one who doesn't care about being arrested or committing crimes.
Someone inexplicably suggested that everyone head over to David Woo's office. ?? A brief and lively debate ensued,in which some people pleaded with the crowd to make some sort of statement by going over to Mr. Woo's office to demand, I'm not quite sure what, while other people insisted on staying at the jail out of solidarity with those who were arrested.
Clearly these people are involved in our representative democracy. Oh wait, the representatives name is David Wu.

All of a sudden the cops started ticketing kids left and right. This upset the crowd extremely and made even the most conservative people there scream "FUCK THE PIGS!"

Comrades informed me that I was a hot subject for the police. They were planning on arresting me for whatever reason they could find.
A self-important kid who just needs some loving parents... and I keep seeing the word "comrade" in these tirades.

Compare this “leak” tragedy to the covert prison “exposé.” In the prison story, rogue agents of the CIA have apparently been diverting resources from the high-priority battle against George Bush to conduct some sort of private war against someone named “Osama bin Laden,” who isn’t even a Republican.
And what about the unknown government official that leaked the CIA prison story? Why, he’s the biggest hero since Deep Throat, or Patrick Fitzgerald. Because leaking to the media is good, or bad. And it deserves to be prosecuted, or not.

Parents sue district over treatment of Latinos
The Brewster School District has discriminated against Latino students for years and has done little to change, according to a lawsuit filed by some parents in U.S. District Court in Spokane.
Brewster High School Principal Randy Phillips declined to comment, saying he hadn't seen the lawsuit.
The school district has been dealing with discrimination allegations ever since Phillips called a meeting of Latino students two years ago, telling them they had less respect for each other, scored worse on tests and fought more than white students.
Phillips has said the meeting was an attempt to stop violence, and came after the eighth fight in two months involving Latino students.
Last July, federal investigators found that the school had violated the civil rights of the 27 students who attended the meeting, and the district agreed to issue a formal apology to their parents and to send staff to diversity training.
The fighting, the lack of respect, the low test scores are all irrelevant now. What matters is that the kids feelings may have been hurt. What could have been a great lesson in accountability and may have been the turning point for some kid's lives is now a great lesson in victimhood.
This is absolutely racist and it sets these kids up for failure in life.
My only consolation is that at least in Washington they have to sue for this:

when in Oregon we do it simply because we're nuts.

Our institutions of "higher" learning are getting quite a reputation for being hotbeds of social promotion and outright racism.

FRONTLINE investigates the steady decline in the number of physicians and clinics performing abortions and focuses on local political battles in states like Mississippi, where only a single clinic performs the controversial procedure.
Feminists everywhere will be scared after watching this show! How will they avoid responsibility for their irresponsible choices with no abortion clinics?

School boards: The Yin to the unions... Yin. Hey?!?!
We all know that the teacher's uinions are hotbeds of liberalism, communism, socialism and mental disorders. But with the Oregon Trail district strike going on I thought that I would investigate their counterpart: The School Boards.
They are supposed to be for local control. They are our David to the unions Goliath. Unfortunately, this is not biblical times and David is having a dirty, unholy relationship with Goliath. They are both on the side of liberlism.
Observe:
In 2004 the Oregon School Board Association participated in a "Celebrating Educational Opportunities for Hispanic Students" conference. (Sponsored by that traitorous bank: Wells Fargo)
...the conference aims to assist school districts in developing their own programs to support educational opportunities for Hispanic/Latino students as well as the entire student population.
Educating Hispanic/Latino kids is the goal, everyone else is just an afterthought. Where's Judge James with that "equal protection clause" she's so fond of?
They have articles titled:
Spending Cuts Hurt State’s Economy
The thesis is that less spending on schools is less money for teachers, administrators and unions. I'm not sure how they came to that conclusion when the folks doing the research were:
To get a better idea of how K-12 spending actually affects Oregon’s economy, the Oregon School Boards Association, the Oregon Education Association, and the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators turned to ECONorthwest, a regional firm specializing in economic analysis.
This is literaly what they list as "facts to consider" when talking about spending cuts:
1) Oregon’s schools have a combined workforce of more than 56,000 employees, making K-12 education a very large employer indeed: larger than any local government or private employer, larger than the State of Oregon or Oregon’s combined federal agencies.
2) Schools generate a payroll of $3.3 billion per year. K-12 schools spend $922 million a year on supplies and materials and $281 million on capital outlays.
3) About 107,000 jobs and $3.93 billion in personal income are directly or indirectly related to school spending. Put another way, every 10 jobs in K-12 education support nine other jobs, many in the service, finance, real estate and construction sectors.
4) Approximately $174 million in personal income taxes, $101 million in corporate property taxes, and $52 million in other business taxes are a direct or indirect result of public school spending in Oregon.
I am literally laughing out loud right now. According to their logic, government should be providing all the jobs. And hey, those government workers pay taxes! So then they can pay the salaries of other government workers! It's like the circle of life. Except they aren't paying more than their salary in taxes so it doesn't really pencil out. As Lars said today: Someone needs to pull the cart.
As for actually solving some of the money problems (problem adj. mismangement of funds) they touch on the main issue, but don't have the guts to really lay it on the line.
Health Care: The Perfect Storm
While they do have some interesting info. (Schools are more generous than the private sector?!?!) They don't seem to take a hard line on actually clamping down and making teachers live in the real world.
And we all know, because we all listen to Lars Larson, who had a school board member on his show, that they are aiding the striking teachers by not opening the schools with substitute teachers in the Oregon Trail district. Thanks guys.

Two contrasting viewpoints poignantly describe the plight of many migrant agricultural workers today:
"Immigrants have made America."
"America is so rich and fat, because it has eaten the tragedy of millions of immigrants."
OPB: Fair and balanced...
Many agricultural workers in Oregon are illegal immigrants. The Mexican Consulate estimates that 80,000 Mexicans have immigrated illegally to Oregon. Because many migrant workers lack U.S. citizenship and do not speak English, they can be easily exploited by farm labor contractors or farmers.
OPB's problem is not the fact that illegal immigration is against the law, it's not the fact that many illegal immigrants sell drugs or rape kids, it's that the criminals can be "easily exploited" by farmers.
Why are we still funding OPB? You would think that with a Republican President, Senate and House that we would stop paying for public broadcasting. When did our party concede that putting this liberal garbage on the air was part of government's job description?

Among the unresolved issues are salary, insurance and policies regarding teacher transfers, teacher evaluations, preparation time and paid leaves.
No mention of the "support" in the actual article. Also no mention of the specific proposals that each side is making.
It would be a lot easier for the general public to know who to "support" if they saw what the school board was offering and what the Union was demanding.
As for the headline, even child molestors get support from the ACLU, drug addicts get support from the libertarian party and I get support from my wife. So what?
You will never see the headline: Bush nominee gets support.
