This editorial is incoherent blather. I guess the point here is that you are all racist scum who shouldn't judge people by the content of their character but instead hire people based on superficial requirements like skin color or age.

The sad thing is that today we will likely hear an endless reference to the skin color of our new president.

I'm taking a break from watching videos of terrorist's children crying in Palestine and have run across this video of an illegal alien's children crying.



Now the folks who posted the video, the blog where I found the video and the commenters on YouTube all seem to place the blame for the crying children on law enforcement. Why doesn't anyone blame the mom for commiting the crimes?

Hamas loves to hide behind children and so do the illegal aliens. It scumbaggery at it's worst. You are simply putting your selfish wants in front of doing what's best for the kids.

You really are a bad parent to come here illegaly and have children. You could be arrested at any moment and be deported. YOU will be responsible for uprooting your family. It is YOUR CHOICE to put yourself in a position where your kids could be left crying while you are handcuffed.

I feel bad for the kids, I am disgusted with the parents.

Three Bend men used a realistic but fake handgun to rob a southeast Bend duplex late Sunday night, police said - but a victim confronted them with a real shotgun, holding one suspect at gunpoint until officers arrived.

Mack said the robbers - Little, Lawrence and Lagutaris - planned to rob the victims, a man 19-year-old man and 20-year-old woman, of money, but one of the intended victims confronted them with a shotgun. Two fled and one was held at gunpoint until police arrived.

I get so sick of the "the robber got the money but no one was hurt" robbery stories on the local tv news. In this case the good guys refused to be victims.

Now that a citizen has rightfully defended himself we can hope that the government does it's job and locks these scumbags up for a good long time.

Legislature as a second language

Help verb: Make you do something that you don't want to.
"We'll help you to live more green."

Invest verb: Tax and spend.
"The state of Oregon will invest in needle exchange programs."

Children noun: Union.
"It's for the children."

Revenue noun: Tax you.
"We'll have to look for another source of revenue."

Create jobs verb: Grow government.
"To get out of the recession we must creat jobs."

Cut noun: An increase.
"We'll have to cut the budget."

I hope that these translations help. Now go bury your wallet in the backyard.

DHS postpones E-Verify requirement
The federal government has postponed until Feb. 20 a requirement for government contractors to use the E-Verify system to check the eligibility of their employees to work in the U.S.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Friday it would push back the date because of a federal lawsuit filed Dec. 23 by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other business groups. The suit contends the government doesn’t have the authority to make E-Verify mandatory for contractors.

The Chamber of Commerce is saying that the government doesn't have the authority to enforce it's own laws. They are also saying that they don't care about American workers.

The IP (intellectual property) of innovative industries is increasingly under assault around the globe as governments and NGOs aggressively seek to erode patent, trademark, and copyright protections; undermine international trade rules; and destroy innovation and research-based industries. How come they don't call for amnesty for those who commit copyright infringment? Where is the lawsuit that says the federal government can't verify that someone has violated at patent Criminal companies who produce knockoff products unite!

We don't get to pick and choose which laws we follow. Once you enter the realm of picking and choosing it becomes anarchy.

Support American workers

100,000 Employers Use E-Verify Program
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that more than 100,000 employers have signed up to participate in E-Verify, a free, easy to use online system that equips participating employers with the tools to quickly and effectively verify the employment eligibility of newly-hired employees.

While participation in E-Verify is voluntary, 15 states now require certain employers to participate and comply in some manner with a federal work authorization verification program.

That's 100,000 employers who demonstrate that they want to follow the law and hire only legal workers. With a difficult job market this news should be heralded as a great victory for those who are seeking work.

When you apply for a job with an employer who uses E-Verify that means you are not competing with an illegal workforce.

Let's make sure that we patronize any business that uses E-Verify and keep our dollars away from those who don't.

Couple charged in Seattle with gay immigration fraud
A federal grand jury in Seattle has charged two people in an alleged immigration fraud conspiracy, saying they advised straight immigrants to claim homosexuality in applying for political asylum.

According to an indictment unsealed Tuesday, the Mahoneys in at least three cases advised immigrants to falsely claim that they feared persecution for homosexuality if they returned to their home country.

It's kind of like that office joke that says when the boss calls you into his office and you know you are about to get fired you just need to quickly blurt out "I'm gay" before he says anything.

This is the problem with treating a behavior as a civil right. How do you prove or disprove a claim? Do you demand to see a homosexual act?

They are like "guest worker" programs except they don't give amnesty to current criminals.

Oregon was once a sanctuary for illegal immigrants from neighboring states to gain driver licences. However, with the recent addition to Senate Bill 1080, which initially passed in February 2008, Oregon is taking steps to make it more difficult for those people to obtain licenses.

Immigration Specialist Helpline Consultant Mario Hernandez believes the new law is increasingly degrading to illegal immigrants who he said are not only left without a legal means of transportation, but are also crippled in their search for jobs, many of which require licences.

The final installation of the three-part law will go into effect Jan. 1, 2010 and will allow the DMV to issue licenses for the length of an immigrant's stay, rather than issuing a license to be valid for eight years.

The Daily Emerald is reporting this story a little late but it's always fun to find a story where someone is quoted about illegal aliens being "degraded" and "unable to look for work" which they can't legally perform.

Oregon justice suggests death penalty review
An Oregon Supreme Court justice has recommended that the court review the constitutionality of the death penalty.

Justice Martha Walters wrote in a concurring opinion on a Portland case that the court should consider Oregon's experience with the death penalty and again examine its constitutionality.

Maybe Justice Walters is confused but the constitutionality of this issue has been settled for quite some time. But liberals seems to treat laws they don't like the same way they treat elections they don't win: keep counting until they get their way.

Let's not sentence the worst offenders in Oregon to a lifetime of cable tv, card games and walks in the yard. Let's punish and deter future crime with the death penalty.

I'll admit that I am going to use this new law, the difference is that I know it's not "free." I will pay for it the next time I buy a computer monitor, television, etc. Maybe someone who works for an electronics company paid for it by being laid off.

When the end user sees no cost it's not hard to convince them that something is "free." This program, like so many other "free" programs, will result in some people paying less than their share and others picking up the burden.

There may be some excellent reasons for government to force electronics companies to incur the cost of recycling these items but please, don't call it free.

In the "our homeless are better than your homeless" category; Dignity Village has release a Tent Cities Toolkit which is an "organizing tool focused on issues of homelessness and the role of grassroots, democratic tent cities as a necessary step to resolving homelessness."

This involves "connecting housed and unhoused activists worldwide into a cohesive political force for effective social change."

Anyone who read that without laughing out loud has no sense of humor.

Sunday night complaint

As it was explained to me earlier, the news is written "for everyone." I would assume that this includes Obama voters. So I guess that it makes sense that KPTV actually put up a bullet point list that suggested the following:

Dress warmly
Stay dry
Eat healthy and responsibly
Don't walk on ice

Needless to say this completely ruined my plans to eat irresponsibly and unhealthily tonight. In the day and age of the "WARNING: do not hit self in head" labels on hammers I still wonder why my local news has to suggest that I "dress warmly" when it's snowing out.

I can't believe voters want to enforce the law

ACLU, activists sue Columbia County over illegal workers measure
The American Civil Liberties Union joined with state and local worker activists Thursday to jointly file a lawsuit in Columbia County Circuit Court aimed at scuttling a measure passed in November that would make it a crime for employers inside the county to hire illegal aliens.

Um, it was already a crime for employers to hire illegal aliens. The problem was that there was no one enforcing the law at the federal level.

The measure would require employers to verify the legality of their employees through E-Verify, a U.S. Department of Homeland Security-operated database where employers can input data, such as Social Security information, and retrieve information regarding a person’s legal status to work in the United States.

Everyone who gets a job must "prove" that they are legally eligible to work. This means that they fill out Form I-9. E-Verify just gives employers the ability to make sure that the information given on that form is not fraudulent.

It also gives everyday citizens the assurance that their Social Security Number isn't being used by an illegal alien for work purposes.

So a measure that increases employment opportunities for eligible workers and prevents ID theft is being opposed by the ACLU and a few folks who think that enforcing the law equals "intolerance."

Open to suggestions

Are you kidding me? You need to steal the fruits of our labor instead of eliminating one of the following state agencies?

Keep in mind that most of those agencies have multiple divisions within the agency. Then the divisions have offices. Then the offices have to have units.

And I'm sure that each unit needs a cultural competency coordinator.

Oregon's top business leaders are weighing in on one of the state's touchiest tax issues: recommending that the state divert at least some of the popular kicker tax rebates into a rainy day fund to help protect schools from budget cuts.

Leaders of several of the state's most influential companies included the proposal to curtail the tax rebates in a series of recommendations they will make today at the annual Oregon Leadership Summit in Portland.

The summit, organized by the Oregon Business Council, brings together hundreds of members of the state's business and political elite and has been a powerful force in recent years for building consensus on a range of governmental policies.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski is focused on his other tax-raising priorities but says the kicker is an issue "the Legislature should grapple with," said his spokeswoman, Anna Richter Taylor.

Our ruling benefactors who know how to spend our money better than we do hate the kicker not just because we get to keep more of what we earned, they hate it because they had their greedy little paws on it and then had to give it back.

They imagine all the programs they could have created, all the political support they could have bought and the choices they could have made for us. But instead of a new "commission on culturual competency" the lowly peasants of Oregon get to spend the fruits of their labor on what they think is best for themselves and their families.

Urge the Senate to Extend E-Verify
Last week the Department of Labor issued a grim report on the state of jobs in America. More than 500,000 Americans lost their job in November and more than 2 million so far in 2008. In response, House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Lamar Smith (R-Texas) issued a statement urging the Senate to pass a long-term extension of E-Verify. Take action now by calling and/or faxing your Senator and asking them to add an amendment to the auto industry bailout to attach H.R. 6633.

Just yesterday I went to a local fast food restraunt and they had the "this employer participates in E-Verify" sign on their door. That's a restraunt where your kids or my kids would have a chance at employment.

E-Verify is a voluntary program that allows employers to make sure they are only hiring LEGAL WORKERS.

Next year we will have a congress that won't care about American jobs being stolen, make those phone calls/faxes/emails today!!

I leave them completely unregulated. I have deleted a total of three comments over the years and they were extreme examples that were threats to my family. Other than that I don't care too much what is said. (just don't make fun of my big ears)

Illegal rapes, Oregonian ignores

Beaverton rape suspect may have more victims, police say
Police say a man accused of raping a 19-year-old woman at gunpoint may have other victims after officers found assorted women's underwear in his Beaverton apartment.

Silvestre Cervantes-Avila, 21, is accused of the Nov. 10 assault on the woman.

Police obtained a search warrant for his apartment and found large amounts of drugs, the gun and several pairs of women's underwear, leading investigators to suspect there may be more sexual-assault victims, Yazzolino said.

He's now in the Washington County jail with an ICE hold. Now I know that it is not newsworthy that he's here illegaly, that's why the Oregonian didn't see fit to print that. They even deleted the comment that someone left questioning his immigration status on their website.

I guess we have to wait until a politician or editorial writer's wife or daughter gets raped before something gets done about this. As long as it's just the taxpaying peasants who are in danger it seems to be ok to welcome the criminals.

A government program sends foreign nationals who commit crimes back to their home countries.

More than 10,000 criminal illegal immigrants have been deported this year from the Pacific Northwest, according to officials.

Rafel Avina says he's just here because we wants to stay close to his five kids.

I really believe that our news agencies are so out of touch that they think we will feel sorry for a meth user/dealer with five kids who is here illegaly. They do a good job of not asking the follow ups like:

2. Did you even have a job or were you on welfare?

3. If you had a job, whose SSN did you use?

State flying their own "jet"

Flying your jet to congress to beg for tax dollars not only shows incredible stupidity, it also shows a lack of need.

The fact that the state of Oregon has ONCE AGAIN posted the job opening for "Art therapist" shows stupidity and a lack of need for more of our money.

Let me say it again because it's coming: NO NEW TAXES. Not on "the rich," not on cigarettes, not a new fee on car registration. They don't need more of our money!

Art is a luxury we can't afford right now

The Percent for Art legislation, passed in 1975, guides the acquisition of Oregon's State Art Collection which includes more than 2,500 original art works.

Oregon Revised Statutes sets aside "not less than 1% of the direct construction funds of new or remodeled state buildings with construction budgets of $100,000 or greater for the acquisition of art work which may be an integral part of the building, attached thereto, or capable of display in other State Buildings".

This art, titled "Keystone" sits outside the public safety training academy. It's time for the legislature to focus on public safety with our scarce tax dollars, not worthless bronze sculptures.

You are going to hear a lot about the need for new taxes in the next session, just remember, they will use your money to buy stuff like this.

Eco nut enjoys yoga in prison

Greetings from Herlong, CA. This place is positioned in a valley with mountains surrounding in all directions. Gorgeous sunrises and sunsets have blessed me while sitting barefoot in the grass they only recently planted. Up until about a month and half ago it was all dirt and rocks.

A yoga class is offered 5 days a week as well as Pilates and other fitness/wellness modalities. There is even a wellness library.

On the recreation yard (which is where I spend most of my time) there is a huge dirt walkin' path (twice around is a mile). In the center are 2 baseball/softball fields, a full soccer field, 3 basketball courts, 6 handball/racquetball courts, a volleyball pit, horseshoe pit, exercise bars and equipment and 2 bocci lawns (my Italian ancestors will be very pleased). There is an indoor rec. hall with a basketball court, many cardio machines, a ping pong table, fitness rooms (where we do yoga), an arts and crafts room and best of all... a music/band room.

Cardio machines... $0
Three basketball courts... $0
Realizing that this is a letter from a prison inmate who was convicted of domestic terrorism... priceless.

Feds revive amnesty of 1986

The federal government plans to give legal status to certain unauthorized immigrants who applied for a 1986 amnesty program but were either unfairly excluded or never received a response to their request.

It's not known just how many unauthorized immigrants will qualify, but the number is thought to be about 10,000, said Sharon Rummery, a CIS spokeswoman in the San Francisco regional office.

"It's about time there was a resolution for the over 10,000 immigrants who were in immigration legal limbo because of the inefficiencies of the immigration office," he said. "Hopefully this will be the beginning not only for those who were not allowed to apply in 1986, but also any future legalizations for the millions that still have not be able to adjust their immigration status."

Mid-morning on Wednesday, many University students found the alarmingly titled "Campus Crime Alert" waiting in their e-mail inbox. As requested by the University's Department of Public Safety, the message was sent out to all residence hall occupants and publicized the attempted abduction of a female student that occurred late Sunday, Nov. 9.

A former music major, Knowles often walked past Pioneer Cemetery on the way to the music building and rarely saw patrols near the area. Larkin, the DPS officer, cautioned, "At night, I would avoid the graveyard at all costs." Two of the recent incidents have occurred around the cemetery.

DPS suggests that students walk in large groups along well-lit paths that are frequented by other people. Larkin also urges students to call an Assault Prevention Shuttle, a DPS escort or even a taxi for late-night trips home.

Why are students over the age of 21 not encouraged to carry a firearm to protect themselves? I'd love to see what happens to the on campus crime stats the month following an attempted rapist getting shot.

I know the school is very busy teaching queer theories but maybe take an hour break for a CHL class sometime.

Each day, University senior Josué Peña-Juarez carries more with him than meets the eye. He walks tall, brown glasses over his dark eyes, smile on his face as he immerses himself into everyday University culture.

The San Diego native grew up primarily speaking Spanish at home and received a bilingual education at school. Peña-Juarez said he constantly felt comfortable, surrounded by other students of color and other native Spanish speakers.

"We moved in the middle of winter," Peña-Juarez said. "I was forced to speak English; there was no one who looked like me. There was no one to speak Spanish with, so I spoke English." Peña-Juarez identifies most with being Chicano, in terms of social, political and cultural consciousness, he said.

Imagine a University student saying that he only "feels comfortable" when surrounded by other white students. This MEChA intern is upset that diversity isn't engaging in enough discussion about diversity.

How about this: it's not "diversity" to only feel "comfortable" with a group of people who share your ethnic background. If you don't think that the University of Oregon doesn't discuss diversity enough at this point maybe the problem is you. The rest of us are sick of this overused buzzword.

Very very very very right?

A booby trap for illegal immigration
Harder to see perhaps is something President Bush pursued that was savvy, farsighted, humane and very, very right.

The president from a border state tried, in vain, to get our nation to wrap its mind around the reality of 12 million illegal immigrants living in our midst.

Unfortunately, last year, a comprehensive reform effort fizzled in Congress.

And if we hold people accountable for breaking the law then the sun will stop shining, the oceans will dry up and and Dora the Explorer might get cancelled. The Oregonian makes bizzare statements about how "state tax revenues would decline by roughly half a billion dollars a year" unless we grant amnesty.

For the sake of argument lets pretend that I agree with that. What's their point? If you are a cash benefit to The State it's ok to break the law? How much economic activity is caused by meth?

Once you accept the premise that industry performance, employment numbers and tax revenue are more important than society living under a set of agreed upon rules then you open the can of worms labeled anarchy.

Which industry can't perform if they follow all the EPA rules? What about the business that could survive if they pay less than minimum wage? Do you want to lose those jobs, lose that industry and hurt tax revenue? Then let them break the law.

He found a rationale?

Oh no, Obama's secret service detail is carrying... an "assault rifle!" But he hates those and said “It’s hard for me to find a rationale for having a 17-clip semiautomatic.” I guess "saving your life" isn't a good enough rationale. I suppose he just means that our benefactors in government get to have those. The rest of us can "hope" that we don't encounter any threats.

We're so shocked

The day after yesterday

There are still some results waiting to be tallied in Oregon but there isn't much for me to be happy about yesterday. Looking forward I plan to keep these ideas in mind:

1. I still have a voice that has been used in the past to successfuly voice opposition to things like amnesty. I will continue to use that voice.

2. I honesty believe that Obama's ideas are bad and will have negative consequences. We have one party rule in Washington so they will get all the blame.

3. I have a 2 month window to purchase all the firearms I want.

4. I think that in response to some of Obama's very extreme plans we will see the opposition party return to some of it's principles that made me choose to be a Republican in the first place.

5. People get the government they deserve. If Oregon wants to double tax income, ask governments permission so that you can build a new deck, pay teachers regardless of performance and refuse to lock up criminals, then I don't know what to say.

Roll call time

We can only hope that Obama supporters vote like he did many times: "present."

Barack Obama's aunt, a Kenyan woman who has been quietly living in public housing in Boston, is in the United States illegally after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, The Associated Press has learned.

It was not immediately clear how Onyango might have qualified for public housing with a standing deportation order.

Please please please, let this open a discussion on illegal immigration and amnesty in the presidential election. Deport her tomorrow so that Obama can come out strong for blanket amnesty and defend taxpayer services for illegals.

Barack Obama did not know a relative was living in the United States illegally for the past nearly four years prior to today's Associated Press report, "but obviously believes that any and all appropriate laws be followed," the campaign said Saturday in a statement.

All "appropriate" laws should be followed. I guess that the inappropriate ones can be ignored.

Support freedom

I want to be a scab

I had never wanted to be a union member until the other day when I drove past the striking Boeing workers. They had a giant "scab of the month" banner naming one of their co-workers who, and this is shocking, decided to keep working to support himself. I want my name on a banner like that.

For a long time I've thought that if you wanted to do something positive for taxpayers, gun owners, property owners, unborn babies and children the best thing you could do in Oregon was weaken the unions. Kari Chisholm (who hates black people, I keep saying it so it must be true) really proved my point:

You can't be a progressive unless you're pro-labor
The good folks of organized labor are the only people putting substantial and sustained resources into fighting for progressive policies.

If we didn't have organized labor fighting for progressive policies and Democratic candidates, we'd have lost the battle long, long ago.

But to point out that unions are not always self serving, Chisholm does note that unions actively work to elect people who will screw them:

If we get universal health care in this country, it's highly likely that individual union members will pay more and get less than they get under their current negotiated contracts.

And yet, everywhere you turn, it's organized labor that's leading the grassroots fight for universal health care.

Keep that in mind when you vote on your ballot measures that deal with unions and the public money they use to campaign for socialism.

A cultural tradition

Weekend party turns violent as Gresham police attacked
Police today said 38 officers responded Saturday to a birthday party that turned into a riot, in what Gresham police are saying is the city's largest melee in almost 20 years.

The riot stemmed from a Quinceanera, a celebration for a Latina turning 15. Police said more than 100 people attended the party, and many appeared intoxicated.

The event was held at GSI Community Center, 1493 N.E. Cleveland Ave., where police have been called 20 times in the past 18 months. Officers said they have been assaulted there six times.

The news report last night absolutely refused to mention that this is a Mexican cultural thing. The online text version of that newscast can be seen here. Sounds like this was just a cultural misunderstanding and the officers who responded, and where assaulted for their trouble, should probably get some diversity training.

Coming from the amnesty party?

This coming from the party that overwhelmingly suppports amnesty? That's what I love about election time, democrats actually have to pretend to care about supporting gun rights, punishing criminals and opposing illegal aliens. They are lying through their teeth but at least it shows us that they know where Americans stand on these issues.

With a shrinking budget, Lane Transit District is facing route cuts at its busiest time

Lane Transit District has proposed a plan to cut its total services by 15 percent, a move that could eliminate 13 routes, raise fares and affect thousands of University staff and students.

The cuts come at a time when more people are using LTD services than ever before, Eyster said. The LTD Board will vote on the proposed changes in November.

This is a perfect example of government running things. Offer up a service that is not paid for by the end user, run short of money, make life difficult for those people who chose to become dependent on government.

Depending on government for your transportation is a bad idea, depending on government for your health care could be fatal.

With new reports showing a huge increase in crime relating to and around medical marijuana it was time for our lawmakers to step up to the plate and do something... like participate in the Oregon Medical Cannabis Awards 2008.

Both Representatives Peter Buckley and Ben Cannon will be in attendence according to the advertisement for the show.

And what a show it will be. When last years "winner" was described as "a very well-groomed bud with a pleasant aroma, not too rough on the lungs, and great taste and potency" and the addition this year of hemp-based wedding dresses, this is THE place to rub elbows with the upper crust of society.

And just in case you thought elected officials would be the only folks showing support for smoking narcotics fear not, taxpayer funded DHS will be there and has gone in the past (.mp3) to give talks on the "rules" about marijuana.

And of course last year "[a]ttorneys in attendance earned 4 CLE credits from the Oregon State Bar for their participation."

The great debate

Wishful thinking on my part: Things I would like to hear McCain say tonight.

I was wrong about amnesty, since the slowdown of the economy I have recognized that importing cheap labor hurts the American worker and exporting millions of dollars to Mexico hurts local business.

The second amendment has nothing to do with hunting, it has to do with keeping all potentially tyrannical governments in check and personal defense.

I support a woman's righ to choose... where to send her children to school under a voucher system.

I don't lower taxes because they help stimulate the economy, that's just a pleasant side effect. I support lower taxes because it is morally wrong to take 50% of someone's hard earned money no matter how much they make. Economic freedom means not having the fruits of your labor go to needle exchange programs which my opponent supports.

They Gave Your Mortgage to a Less Qualified Minority
Under Clinton, the entire federal government put massive pressure on banks to grant more mortgages to the poor and minorities. Clinton's secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Andrew Cuomo, investigated Fannie Mae for racial discrimination and proposed that 50 percent of Fannie Mae's and Freddie Mac's portfolio be made up of loans to low- to moderate-income borrowers by the year 2001.

Threatening lawsuits, Clinton's Federal Reserve demanded that banks treat welfare payments and unemployment benefits as valid income sources to qualify for a mortgage. That isn't a joke -- it's a fact.

Now, at a cost of hundreds of billions of dollars, middle-class taxpayers are going to be forced to bail out the Democrats' two most important constituent groups: rich Wall Street bankers and welfare recipients.

The solution to a government created problem is not more government.

In the mainstream media and around the watercooler I don't hear people talking about what the private sector might do to solve this or how government could remove themselves from the equation to allow private investment to work it's magic.

You made a bad CHOICE

I live in House District 26 and have gotten the Matt Winguard mailer regarding his 2001 Assualt 4 conviction for "thumping" his child on the head.

I took two things into consideration at the time: seven years had gone past and I believe that we are overzealous these days in what we consider "abuse" of our kids.

One of the abuses was something that I would consider normal for Cub Scouts:

Wingard took the 7 year old on a two-day, 18 mile hike, walking fast and at times leaving the child behind and not allowing for rest.
