Midly suprised

After the new resolution for English to be the official language was passed by the Oregon Republican Party I wondered if their website would still feature the "in espanol" section. (Along with this picture that existed during the primary)

But thankfully all that is gone now. Go check out the new improved Oregon GOP website and do something to help Republicans get elected in November.

NOTE: You can compare the Republicans agenda to the "new and improved" democrats agenda where concepts like "gender identity" and "gender expression" are now on the list... (Johnny thinks he's a girl now so he's going to go ahead and use ladies dressing room)

The United States has existed for more than 200 years without any such official elevation of English by the federal government. No such measure was written into the US Constitution by the founders. A proposal by John Adams in 1780 to establish an official academy devoted to English was rejected at the time as undemocratic.

Not even at the height of the mass immigration from Eastern and Southern Europe at the turn of the twentieth century, when millions of people speaking dozens of foreign languages flooded into the US, did the American ruling elite feel the need to enact this form of discrimination and disenfranchisement. Why now?

"The World Socialist Web Site" - Sounds a lot like another Dumocrat offshoot into their arcane and somewhat screwed up agenda, does it not? Perhaps the AmINOCLU could be an active part of this thing.

The writer of this posting has conveniently neglected to say that the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Federalist Papers, all of Thomas Paynes's and Ben Franklins writings, any and all writings by the settlers of Jamestown in 1607, and the Gettysburg Address were written in English. As far as anyone knows all discussions, conversations, and speech-making of the early days of our country were all in English.

It seems to me that all this, and more, would tend to make English the official language of the United States by default, if nothing more. Hell, even the posting by the writer of the above posting is in English.

Indeed, some people don’t understand that this country was made a great one for all those immigrants that wanted a better life... It is good to have a common language to speak one to each other, I like that, but, what’s the deal if we could have more that one? Look on Europeans... Those guys are moving in the right direction, at least they are working like neighbors and mostly of them speak at least some words in two or three languages, why Americans can’t do the same?... By other hand, a person could move to another place, Mexico and Canada will not move anywhere… Better to work together in a solution...

Dear Bruce,

Talking on Mexican flag, any flag from any country deserve respect, Why don't stop to speak that way?, respect has two directions... Present yourself as a respectful person, more people will take attention on you...

Hey Al,

Here is one for you, go to Mexico and find out what happens to you if you try and fly the Red, White, and Blue. It is illegal in Mexico to fly another country's flag. Also if you wanted to go and live in Mexico be prepared for the following:

1. You have to be a certified professional (they don't want day laborers there).
2. You have to denounce the country you are from (so much for hanging onto your heritage).
3. You have to speak their language (wow what a concept--one country one language)

There is room for only one flag in the United States of America and that is the Red, White and Blue.

If the illegal aliens want to be a part of this country they need to do so legally (every country has laws on immigration why should ours be different)no one is asking them to do anything different and if they are here illegally go back to the country you came from and stop breaking our laws.

Signed,

A Taxpayer in Washington

another taxpayer

Ps. by the way, in some places back there on Mexico, the first language is not Spanish... But German.

If President Bush can claim that the Constitution of the United States is "just a goddamn piece of paper," then I think I will adopt the position that the flag is "just a goddamn piece of cloth."

I think that it's important that we highlight the groups/companies/political parties that want to fracture our country with two different languages.

And it is just two: English and Spanish. Why not French? Why not Latvian?

For the sake of our country and for the sake of the immigrants, English should be compulsory. It already is a requirement for citizenship.

Let's draft a letter withdrawing all support from these groups...so far, Christian Coalition, NRA, Focus on the Family, and the Republican Party...until they remove the Spanish versions of their website!

English-only!

Anonymous AL 3:23pm: You will probably find that any German community in Mexico is largely made up of the descendants of Nazis who got out of Germany at the end of WWII before they could be prosecuted and possibly hanged, much like those German communities in Argentina.

Razonador: You are right about there being German communities in Texas that date back to 1845. So what? There are German communities in North Dakota, also, that probably date back before the turn of the last century. Surely you cannot be disputing the fact that a great many Nazis left Germany and went to Argentina, as well as some other countries in South America, to escape the upcoming war trials. That is documented fact. As for my including Mexico in my statement, I used the word "probably". Apparently the word "probably" is as foreign to you as the word "illegal" is.
