Oregon house dems get specific about... stuff

The house Democrats have a "road map" for their plans in the upcoming legislative session.

As a father and a husband I am very pleased that "democrats will act quickly to keep our families and and our neighborhoods safe from current threats."

How will they do that you ask? They will "guarantee access to emergency contraceptives" to sexual assault victims. That's right. They won't lock rapists up. They won't punish repeat offenders more harshly. They won't classify more sex offenders as "predatory." But hey, after you get raped you will get some emergency contraceptives so what are you complaining about?

Daniel,

I don't think people realize the affects that assault will have on someone for the rest of their lives. I know people hear it, they may even repeat it but unless it happens to them they will never really understand it. It is very good that you are bringing this issue to peoples attention.

Hey that "Road Map" is a hoot. Lets insist that the school year be kept at a strict 175 days...after all we want to maintain one of the shortest school years in the nation. And of course lets beat the "smaller classroom" horse again even though it's been proven a false arguement, and while they're at it, lets invest in another failed program, Head Start. More of the same Socialist BS...what's new exactly? It's not a road map, it's a train wreck.

You can get the abortion pill at your local Fred Meyer, but to get Sudafed for your stuffy nose you need to see a doctor.

This is crazy.

Healthy Kids

Health insurance for children is a moral obligation.

Democrats will extend health care to EVERY CHILD in Oregon who isn’t otherwise covered by federal or private health plans.

RE: health care for every kid. Ok... how? Not much of a road map with no specifics.

RE: "Small" class sizes. I'm sorry, I went to public school but what number is "small?" 27? 36? 12?

Chris,

If you're referring to Plan B, it is not an "abortion pill", unlike RU-486. One would think the staunch anti-abortion types would welcome this drug, as it has great potential for reducing the number of abortions performed. It's also much cheaper and has undergone extensive testing, hence it's FDA approval. Placing this one on the pro-life platform is a mistake.

Couldnt agree with you more on the Sudafed thing. Most ridiculous piece of legislation since the 24-7 school zone speed limit. Nice we could hand a little more business to the drug cartels while inconveniencing cold & allergy sufferers. Brilliant!

I had to read the emergency contraceptive post on the "roadmap" twice. How does providing a pill so you won't get knocked up after a criminal has his way with you going to protect your privacy and or security? I don't see the correlation. " hey you just got raped and robbed of your keys and identification!" "here's a pill that will not only save you from having that evil bastards kid but he won't be able to break into your house later for seconds!". Don't the state demos have someone proof read this shit before they post it?

anon133 - you ought to have someone proofread your shit before posting. Complete drivel.

Alright, I normally refrain from "me too"ing in post comments... but I can't help jumping in on a few of these.

-------------------
Affordable Prescription Drugs? Bulk buying? If they make this mandatory then they've got the machine in place to handle it already: the OLCC... having one buyer for liquor sure has kept it cheap here, I mean we're down to 150-180% of the bottle price in California. The plan sounds reasonable, but the likelihood of it working?

Health Insurance Stability: Um, isn't there a state insurance board already? isn't that their job?

Preventing Internet Predators: You mean to tell me all those internet sting operations, FBI agents posing as teens and children, and the various arrests of predators were for something that's NOT A CRIME????? Whew, thank goodness we intend to make it a crime next session... I mean, those poor predators, held in jail on something they haven't criminalized yet.

ID Theft: yeah... prevention... hah. Another case of making sure the state makes something available that is already standard practice...

Sexual Assault Victims' Rights: Crack me up... you show up at the emergency room with a report of rape, they'll hand you Plan B and send in a police officer. Yet another promise to do something that is already done. Hey, at least they know they can KEEP most of these promises.

High Tech Investments: Apparently if you give more money to colleges for high tech education, more companies move in... I guess that really IS the determining factor in placing a company, right?

Government Waste: Agency audits from the Secretary's office? How much will these cost? and with his record of bias-free accomplishments, what's the point? And a regular review of corporate tax code? How is that investigating waste????? It's like ID theft prevention all over again... see, you can't waste what you haven't earned... when your boss doesn't give you a raise at work you can't claim that he's wasting your money. Waste is poor utilization, not lack of income.

Accountability... Um, is there a generally known case of a republican they don't like lobbying at the moment? Sounds like a personal vendetta gone large. I'm unsure how preventing a quick return to being a lobbyist is government accountability.

After just a brief perusal of all this, I can only shake my head and wonder. This thing is completely overrun with stupidity, leaving a single question in my mind: Are the authors stupid, or do they just think we are?

Anon 631 I wasn't talking about spelling you ass. If a group of people are going to gather to create such a web site for the public to see (and these people are our elected officials mind you) , they should think about continuity. The emergency contraceptive blurb really makes no sence. I haven't a single clue as to how the morning after pill would protect anyones privacy other then in nine months said woman wouldn't pop out a kid.

anon917 - i wasn't referring to your spelling you dipshit (by the way, it's "sense" not "sence"). I was talking about the clear ineptitude in your writing and logic. If a woman is raped obviously she would not want to have the scum's child and would need to get an abortion, or if she chose not to, yes, would become pregnant. Both of these things draw attention. In the case of an abortion, obviously she is exposed to less attention (other than the lunatic protestors condemning her as she goes into the clinic), but her identity as a rape victim still must be revealed to certain people. Also, why should the unfortunate victim have to go through an abortion when she can immediately take a pill, which is the most private and quickest way for her to begin coping and healing from the trauma?

First off, the Plan B pill is no more an abortion pill than regular birth control. It operates on the principle that most pregnancies occur many hours after sex. It's simply a larger dose of the same drug used for standard, once a day, birth control.

Secondly, of course something like this should be offered to rape victims, in fact... it is. The point is that the legislators have announced that they're going to pursue providing a service that is already provided. They do it so often in this list, that it seems to be the central theme.

Theft prevention would mean the death of lawyers and politicians.

Yeah, because we all know you get pregnant every time you have sex...

Way to rip on someone's logic and then say this...
