tol‧er‧ance - a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward opinions and practices that differ from one's own.

So where does vandalism and graffiti fit into the "tolerance" platform that the left always preaches? Where does attacking the Minutemen founder while he is trying to give a speech fit into tolerance? Where does shouting me down at carousels of information/day labor sites while I am trying to have a conversation with someone fit into tolerance?

Or is it the position of the liberals that tolerance is a one-way street?

Tolerance from the means "Resistance is futile" you will be absorbed into the "Collective." If you resist, there will be "Re-education camps" (also known as public schools) but only if you fail to submit and agree with their moral relativist,Democrat, socialist, communist worldview.

CRY BABY, is this all you have---attack the opposition? do you have anything positive to say!!

No. Tolerence is Bill O'Reilly screaming down your throat when you have something valid to say.

So, anon ... you are OK with us vandalizing Demo campaign signs?

"Or is it the position of the liberals..."

There's no such thing as "the liberals" in terms of having a position. There's no such thing as "the left" in terms of having a platform. We're talking about a philosophy, not an ideology, not a religion, not a party. Our country is not so conveniently black and white. To invoke "the liberals" or "the left" is to pretend that one - one person, one organization, one institution, one party, one President, one statement, one act - represents all. It doesn't. I'm talking about literally hundreds of millions of individuals for whom the term "liberal" is simply not the sum of all their beliefs and ideas.

Are there trends? Yes. Patterns? Yes. Do stupid adolescent delinquents tend to be liberal rather than conservative? Mhm. Does one Kulongoski supporter spraypainting an overgrown lawn sign mean that liberals support vandalism? That's the logical equivalent of the easy way out. There are absolutes and principles in this world but they lie a lot deeper than that.

And for your sake, I hope you don't think there's no place for tolerance in conservatives' lives... though that would, I have to say, explain some things...

I just received my ballot this morning and I was not going to vote, but now that I have seen this; I will vote for Saxton!

Notice the left dodging the issue? What does O'Reilly have to do with this sign? Moral relativism, that's what. Scum.

Attack the opposition? Hardly. I believe that the facts speak for themselves.

Followers of the party that portrays themselves as a bastion of tolerance are, indisputably, among the least tolerant of anyone in the USA.

A) My origional post was full of satire. Did you catch that?

B) Did you read kaelri's post? I think that explaines it for you.

C) Your creation of the politically liberal institution (I think Kaelri covered this already) allowes you to incriminate it however you would like. However, your attempt to classify those who hold different beleifs than those of mainstream political conservatism as intolerent is fallic in that the group itself is to diverse to classify under such a broad generalization. Your argument is just as illogical as someone's argument that all republican leaders are homosexual child molesters on account of one politician.

D) Is the fact that O'Reilly epitomizing that which you are accusing the "liberals" of so threatening that you must resort to name calling?

E) Is there anyone on this blog that has any idea of what moral relativism actually is?

Yes, there is a position called "modern liberal". It is the position you take. It is the wrong position, especially when you're defending despicable vandals who are going to be utterly defeated when Saxton wins the governorship.

Where does vandalism and graffiti fit into the "tolerance" platform that the left always preaches?

Great question. It doesn't. One person probably did this on their own.

Now, where does molesting children fit into "Family Values" of the party that claims to love children (a little too much maybe)? Many, many have done this and the Republican Party leadership continues to try and cover it up.

What is worse a little paint on a sign or the raping of our children? Funny there is no outrage about that out of you Repugs.

The newest:

And as long as we're complaining let's not forget the slashed tires for the GOP get out the vote vans (by the son of a democrat lawmaker of all people), the defaced, spray painted cars in NE Portland, the shattered window at the GOP HQ in MultCo. Gosh, what else?

- My previous post covered the matter of the label.

- You don't have to tell me that you think it's "the wrong position." It goes without saying that one considers any position different from one's own to be wrong.

- The probability of either candidate's victory in the coming election is irrelevant to this discussion.

- I have to wonder why someone who thinks mere vandalism is "despicable" would choose a screenname that identifies himself with he terrorists. Why do you hate America?

rickyragg said...

The post was about the hypocrisy of the left. The point is that the "tolerance" issue is a favorite of theirs. The juxtaposition of the vandalized sign and the professed belief in "tolerance" by the left points out their hypocrisy.

Say one thing and do another.

Demand others follow the rules and break them yourself.

Preach "tolerance" and demonstrate intolerance.

Bill O'Reilly has nothing to do with the post. He's an entertainer. There's absolutely NO parallel between his sometimes rude treatment of people who willingly call his program and the vandalism of campaign signs. O'Reilly is abrasive, and proud of it. He doesn't pretend to be anything else than what he is. Love him or hate him - it's beside the point.

...and kaelri,

your attempted disconnection of "the left" or "liberals" from any sort of characterization that might open them to valid criticism is amusing, but just a deflection.

Just like bryan's moral relativism comment.

The left's embracing of moral relativism is pervasive. It's what differentiates "left" from "right". It's what allows liberals to vandalize signs and justify the action by saying that "Saxton is bad - Kulongoski is good" therefore I am advancing good. Which leaves out of the moral calculation any responsibility for the "bad" part. The key is that these calculations are subjective. Subject to variables such as: good/bad for me/us, good/bad now but maybe not later, good/bad if I/we get caught or not.

Bryan said...

Kaelri said...

Here's your problem, Ricky: you're saying that both the "tolerance platform" and this vandalism are the actions of "the left," therefore "the left" is hypocritical. But we're not talking about the same people. "The left" isn't an organization.

(I'll remind you again: the pack referred to around here as "the left" consists of a couple hundred million people. And lemme tell you, if we could somehow get the entire "left" to walk in a line, life would be a whole lot simpler.)

To put it another way: painting that sign was not an act of leftism or liberalism. It was an act of vandalism. It was probably done by a liberal, yes, but not just because he was a liberal, but because he was a liberal vandal. People have, y'know, multiple dimensions. "Liberal" is not the definition of a human being.

Now, if there were, say, a huge wave of Republican lawn sign maimings, then you might have a case. If it were supported by a number of major left-leaning institutions, then you might even be justified in calling it a de facto policy. But there's not. Daniel used one, one example (without providing a shred of context, I might add) to categorically accuse a group of people, larger than some countries' populations, of ideological hypocrisy. I hate to disillusion you, but people genuinely don't like vandalism, and if someone was actually skeptical enough to put out a poll on that, you'd find that the vast majority of Americans fundamentally oppose crime regardless of political leanings.

Bryan said...

Ricky-

Wow. You could really benefit from a course in political institutions.

Also, if you're going to harp on my gramer, then avoid using fragments.

"Just like bryan's moral relativism comment," is not a sentence by itself. This reveals your hypocrisy in more than one way.

Anyway...

Again, you attempt to classify the left as a collective when in fact... nevermind. I keep forgetting you like to ignore that part. I particularly find it amusing you attempt to pass off what you cannot argue against as a "deflection." (By the way, "Which leaves out of the moral calculation any responsibility for the "bad" part," is another fragment. To think you accused me of having bad grammar).

"Demand others follow the rules and break them yourself."

None of us have made this claim. You assume too much.

"The post was about the hypocrisy of the left. The point is that the 'tolerance' issue is a favorite of theirs. The juxtaposition of the vandalized sign and the professed belief in "tolerance" by the left points out their hypocrisy."

Following this argument, one could assume that all Republicans are hypocrits and child molestors because of the actions of one man (not an argument I advocate).

rickyragg said...

I said: "The post was about the hypocrisy of the left. The point is that the 'tolerance' issue is a favorite of theirs. The juxtaposition of the vandalized sign and the professed belief in "tolerance" by the left points out their hypocrisy."

You say:

I only assumed you read the original post which was obviously "too much".

Which is it, bryan...

gramer or grammer?

You obviously wouldn't know and don't get it - I should have known.

kaelri,

To put it another way: painting that sign was not an act of leftism or liberalism. It was an act of vandalism. It was probably done by a liberal, yes,...

To both of you...

I rest your case.

No lefty here has answered my question ... "is it OK with you that I start vandalizing Democrat candidates' signs?"

If not, then, after your spirited defense of this vandalism, why not?

Would your answer be this moral relativism thing again? comparing an abrasive radio personality to committing an act of vandalism? Or using some other politician's bad behavior to justify an act of vandalism against someone else?
