Cutting out the middle-man

Forget about exporting the jobs, let's just export the dollars!

Federal Reserve will help immigrants transfer funds
The U.S. Federal Reserve is banking on immigrants for its new remittance program.

Called Directo a Mexico, the product allows U.S. banks participating in the program to conduct money-transfers for Mexican workers through its automated clearinghouse system.

To use the service, "all individuals are required to be documented," said Elizabeth McQuerry, a vice president for the Federal Reserve's retail payments office in Atlanta.
Oh good, I feel better...

"The form of documentation depends on the bank or credit union," she said. "According to the U.S. Patriot Act, the matricula consular is a legal form of ID for a bank or credit union to accept."
Aaaaah hahahahahaha, I knew they were joking. The illegal alien card is accepted. I guess by "documented" they mean "in possession of some sort, any sort, of document. Fraudulent or not."

In 2005, Latino immigrants sent $53.6 billion from the United States to Latin American countries...

If China moves out of the Dollar (as has been suggested) and into Gold, we will need places to pile the worthless cash.

So the US government is now in the business of laundering money for Mexican nationals who are in the US illegally?

Hello everyone, I'm a citizen of Argentina where I went to school and college, and right now I'm a PhD Physics student at Penn State University. I have a student visa to live and study in the United States, and as such I don't have to pay taxes. In turn, I get a stipend of 17000 USD a year for living expenses, over which, of course, no deduction is applied. I'm telling you all about this, not only for my own amusement, but because I'm realising that the only difference between those immigrants that you hate so much in this pages and me, is that I make more money, get an education, and don't have to clean anybody's toilet. Am I forgetting something? Ohhhh yes, a little piece of paper glued on my passport. Yet, for reasons that I'm not qualified to evaluate, some american institutions decided to give this money and oportunity to me, and not to a USA-born person...Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Anyways, my main point is that I've met american citizens (and when I say american I mean north american) doing the exact same thing I'm doing, only in Argentina. In fact I've met lots of americans living in Argentina, paying no taxes, and we're happy to have them, we build no walls for them, we have no Minutemen for them. And this was all just a prelude to a question that arose in my mind while reading Daniel's post: "Latino" immigrants sent 53 billon to Latin America. Do you have any idea of how much money have American companies sent from Latin America to the USA?!?! You better not look up that figure, or else you'd have lot of re-thinking to do...I recommend that you just keep being thankful there's NAFTA, keep masking your xenophobia with political nonsense and keep feeling that you're right to look down on Latino immigrants, even when they might have a much better education than you.

Hey Doctor Spick....

Whats wrong are the colleges in Argentina not good enough for you?

If the illegal aliens are so much smater than us maybe they should stay in their own country and figure out how to make their lives better there.

Oh yeah you can go back to Argentina whenever you want we really don't need you here at all.

So wait one out of 12 MILLION ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS isn't sucking on the government tit...that makes me feel so much better I can go to sleep at night.

Hmmm ...

Those American ex-pats in Argentina are paying their own bills, and I am sure the government there is collecting some form of revenue from them in one form or another.

If those same American ex-pats were all evading local taxes, working illegally, and deliberately collecting welfare ( money, education, and medical ), then I would expect the reaction by Argentinians to be a bit different.

I want to apologize for all the racist idiots you read spew their hate on this blog.

Is it racist to say that everyone should obey the law?

Hey, Bruce: You neglected to mention that they Jews here in this country came here legally, many asking for asylum when anon 11:05's buddy pal, Hitler was trying to exterminate them. And a great many of them are also 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation Americans. And anon 11:05 can bet that none, absolutely none, of them are running around with bombs strapped on looking for someone to blow up.

Broke bank should drop his anti-Semetism (is that spelled right?) and grow up and get a life, one that is free of so much bigotry, hate and discontent.

So... Is anyone going to address the Nafta issue that Doctor Spick brought up? Because there's irrefutable evidence supporting his claim...

Just curious.

NAFTA is for free trade not illegal immigration just because we have NAFTA does not mean it's a license to cross our borders illegally, and become a financial drain on our economy.

And for those who are going to say that the illegal aliens help our economy I beg to differ when they receive free medical, food, housing, education at taxpayers expense. And they break the law every day by not paying taxes.

Stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution. Secure our boarders and get as many illegals out of this country as humanly possible.

I always see the term racist thrown around here. It should be realist, this nation and this state cannot afford to absorb the poor and uneducated of Mexico forever without dragging down the standard of living of this county.

Stay home, change your own country and hold you politician accountable.

"And for those who are going to say that the illegal aliens help our economy I beg to differ when they receive free medical, food, housing, education at taxpayers expense. And they break the law every day by not paying taxes."

Oddly enough, one of the books on OFIR's reading list (Beyond Smoke and Mirros, Massey) contradicts this.

"NAFTA is for free trade not illegal immigration just because we have NAFTA does not mean it's a license to cross our borders illegally, and become a financial drain on our economy."

We're creating poverty in states through NAFTA, this is us reaping the rewards. Illegal immigration should have been an expected side-effect of NAFTA. I guarantee if all the money were heading southward, so would we.

"Stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution."

I agree. Write to your congressmen encouraging the abolition of NAFTA... or something like that.

From Wiki:

Since NAFTA was signed, it has been difficult to analyze its macroeconomic effects due to the large number of other factors in the global economy.

Some economic studies have indicated that rather than creating an actual increased trade, NAFTA has caused trade diversion, in which the NAFTA members now import more from each other at the expense of other countries worldwide. Some economists argue that NAFTA has increased concentration of wealth in both Mexico and the United States.

After the signing of NAFTA, trade between the nations have soared dramatically, with trade between the United States and Mexico doubling. [1]

Bryan said...

You do understand that anyone who wants to can sign into Wikipedia and add any sort of information they please. I'm not arguing the content of the information. I'm just making you aware for future reference.

Anyway...

"After the signing of NAFTA, trade between the nations have soared dramatically, with trade between the United States and Mexico doubling. [1]"

This doesn't mean that the overall bulk of capital is being distributed equally between the two states. Regarldess, labor opportunity and quality has rapidly shrunk since the signing of NAFTA. Again, refer to the last chapter in Massey's "Beyond Smoke and Mirrors" for more in depth explination.

Daniel said...

I am an advocate for free trade but don't think that I'm a big NAFTA or CAFTA fan.

I would however, point out that all countries entered in the treaty voluntarily.

Bryan said...

True, but those were executive and legislative decisions, not decisions made by the people. The fact that George Bush started a war with Iraq does not mean the United States as a whole supports it, for example.

Kristopher, I know americans working illegally in Argentina, I'm not sure that they "deliberately" use welfare system, but I'm sure they'll be taking what they can get when they need it. But they like americans in argentina, and there are not so many of them anyways, so we're happy to have them. Of course, many of the things that are said about the mexicans in this pages, are said in argentina about the bolivians, and in bolivia, they are said about the indigenous population, and in other times they were said all over about the jews, and so on. And this is why I mentioned xenophobia, becuase I know what it's like to be on both sides of borders, and I've come to the conclusion that these are the true motors behind this logic. I am not saying anything against americans, I like americans very much, otherwise I'd be back in argentina (were colleges ARE good enough for me, by the way, that's where I did go to college) and I also like bolivians, I'm saying this mentality that foreigners are to blame is ubiquitous, and the political arguments that tend to go with it are empty. Which brings me back to NAFTA!

"And for those who are going to say that the illegal aliens help our economy I beg to differ when they receive free medical, food, housing, education at taxpayers expense. And they break the law every day by not paying taxes". Well, with all the money that american companies have made with trading and with producing things in mexico with lower costs, I'm more than sure that all those expenses should be well covered. So if you make all those millonaires pay the taxes that they should, you wouldn't have to pay so much, everybody would get the care that they need, and millonaires wouldn't have satellite tv inside the steamroom of their five speedboats. I think what needs to be reviewed is this strategy of making fiscal paradise for bigshot international companies while making the average Joe pay for cleaning after their party. You can't have a foreign policy of exploitation and then expect not to have suffer the consequences. Of course, Mexico also makes money and tries to expand its economy, but when expanding economy you're bound to have wealth concentration, and this does nothing but increase the pressure on borders. But I guess it's harder for me to blame Mexico for trying to expand their economy by signing into NAFTA, although I think the cost of this expansion is much to high, and I hope someday they decide to stop making the cake bigger, and start handing it around...

Anyways, I gotta go, cause as Bruce said, as a good Latino immigrant, I have to go rape some young women, bring in some drugs for your young innocent people, and go have my own personal contest of drinking and driving without a license or insurance to see how many US-born taxpaying christians I can run over in a night without getting caught. See you all later.

Doctor Spick ....

Try living in Hillsboro for a time.

The "undocumented" are working under the table ... the lines at the grocery store checkouts are full of "undocumented" immigrants using Oregon Trail food welfare debit cards to buy groceries, the local hospital emergency room is full of "undocumented" folks showing up there for minor complaints ( Emergency Rooms are NOT allowed to turn anyone away for non-payment ), and the police are spending all day and night dealing with "undocumented" criminals.

I left Hillsboro after I got tired of running "undocumented" car-clouting thieves out of our duplex parking lot at gunpoint.

It doesn't matter what cultural group you belong to ... if you are continually allowed to skate on obeying the law or paying your bills, you will, as a group, become a burden on society.

Bryan said...

Kristopher-

Any proof that they were undocumented, or are you just xenophobic?

Anonymous said...

Kristopher, I didn't understand what you meant by
"I left Hillsboro after I got tired of running "undocumented" car-clouting thieves out of our duplex parking lot at gunpoint." so I'll evaluate both possibilities. If undocumented thieves tried repeatedly to steal your car with the using guns, I'm really sorry and I'm not apologizing for these criminals, but sharing my simpathy for you, and problems like that need to be addressed, and fast. But let me assure you, and you have to believe me about this, mexicans or latinamericans in general do not enjoy being thieves, and if you give them the chance of having a job, paying taxes, having a retirement plan, not fearing deportation, they are going to take it as much as anybody else. It's socioeconomic conditions that account for crime, not nationality. And furthermore the fact that undocumented people can get their hands on guns that easily tells you that there are too many guns going around already with too little control...

Now, if it was the other way around, and it was you who pulled a gun on unarmed people, even when they were trying to steal you car, and you're still victimizing yourself here, then your just a lunatic and there's no talking to you, and all we have left is to hope that you don't infect others with your anger and hatred, because if I were wrong, it would be the first case in history where somebody enforces his own power with the use of guns on unarmed people and still feels that he has a claim to call himself the "victim". If this is the case, I hope you get a testicle cancer and die thinking that the world has been unfair to you.

Of course, if one is going to argue that implementation and enforcement of laws is important, then he has to defend all instances of the law, and that means that when you learn of a crime, you report it to the police, not take justice in your own hands. Threatening people with firearms (without proper authority) is a crime, just like stealing cars, crossing borders without permission, or whatever else you accuse mexicans of doing. So I just hope that it was the other way around, and it is still criminals who threaten victims with guns, and not civilians who think of themselves as victims, and still feel they did the right thing.

PS.: in any of both cases, how did you learn of the migratory situation or even nationality? I doubt they brought their passports along when going to steal a car...

Bryan said...

"bryan saxton.... they are all undocumented. It is easy to tell which ones are the illegals. If they are smiling coming out of a grocery store and getting into a brand new Ford F-150 with 5 little kids and a pregnant woman who has 7 gold teeth and is wearing a sombrero....you can bet those are illegal aliens."

I can't beleive I just read that. You don't deserve to make any comment without people screaming "racist" or "facist" at you.
