Obama to address immigration reform in coming months

President Barack Obama will present plans for immigration reform this year, Hispanic lawmakers said Wednesday after strategic talks at the White House.

Obama "was clear and eloquent and determinate to let us know that we are all together in the route of comprehensive immigration reform," Democratic lawmaker Luis Gutierrez told reporters after the discussion between the president and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC).

I think that taxing people to pay for needle exchange programs is un-American. I think that requiring a building permit to construct a new deck is un-American. Can I stop paying taxes and asking daddy gov's permission for everything?

As soon as the nominating process got us McCain vs. Obama, we all knew amnesty would unfortunately pop up again. The only question was when. You'd think the smackdown it got last time would have put the issue to rest once and for all, but nooooooo....

Anyway, if Obama insists on trying again, NOW is a pretty good time. If things were going well, he might be able to pull it off. But right now there is so much BS going on in DC and unemployment problems in so many states, the people will have none of it. Let Obama burn what's left of his political capital on this fool's errand.

Another U.S. Representative working for non citizens!

Supposedly only U.S. Citizens put Pelosi in that office and now she is NOT working for those same citizens and YOU let her get away with it?! With 11% unemployment? Are there that many non citizens now voting? must be.

Thank you Fox news for letting millions and millions of Amercians understand who this lady really works for and now her days in that office are soon to end. Was this story also on ABC, CBS, NBC or PBS? hmmm why not.

Solve this problem? Pay every Illegal, kids included, $2,000.00 to leave and they will as $8,000 goes a long way in the Turd World and would improve those economies enough where they would stay there.

Meanwhile OUR economy would no longer be burdened with Hundreds of Billions a year for ESL, Health Care, Crime, job losses, no taxes paid, etc. etc. etc.

This would really "bring them out of the shadows" and no longer "seperate families" and once home they could truly apply to come back here after waiting "at the back of the line". That would be an "earned path to citizneship", like the rest of the World that wants to come here and would not require rewarding bad behavior with "Amnesty". Something we tried in the 1980's and failed so miserbly that we have 5 times as many illegal's now than then.

That is a "Humane" and "Compassionate" solution to me, what do you think people.

That is a bad idea, they do not deserve more money than they have already stolen. Why pay for them to leave? Besides, they make much more money here in our country selling drugs and living off of our system to go back to their country of origin. So 8,000 turd world dollars is nothing in comparison to what they are accustomed to stealing here.

Tsarina Pelosi said that the ICE agents and the border patrol agents are criminals and that to follow the law in dealing with the illegals is unamerican.

I am wondering how many illegals are working on her husband's vineyards and winery. And if she has gotten word of an impending raid on their businesses by ICE.

This is good news. Legalization for Undocumented Immigrants needs to happen, so we can get a handle on who is in this country. We also need to have a robust guest worker program so that employers have the labor they need. There is no way around this. With averages ranging from over 15 million, the false notion of "self deportation" is not working. And failed approches like enforcement only, raids and e-verify is beyond laughable.

Miglavs,

Time to get yourself a new issue. Ten years from now, illegal immigration is not going to be as big of an issue as it is now. Here's why.

Our economy is in a deep recession (I'm assuming you know this, though you seem to have little to say about it). Border apprehensions have suddenly plummeted to all-time lows, even though line-watch hours have remained constant. At the moment, at least, the economic "pull" factor for illegal immigration is not working.

Furthermore, fertility rates in Mexico have plummeted. In 1970, the average Mexican woman gave birth to over 6 children during her reproductive years. Now the fertility rate is down to 2.1, about what a population needs to reproduce itself. Very soon, Mexico is not going to have the huge excess labor supply that they have struggled with most of the twentieth century. Fewer children means that Mexico will be able to devote more resources per child to education meaning they will be able to extend public education which typically terminates in most states after the eighth grade. So, Mexico's labor supply is not only going to shrink, it is also going to become better-educated, which means they're not going to want to do the shit-work that their compatriots are doing in the U.S. either. Furthermore, with modernization, Mexico is going to need the rural labor force that has traditionally migrated to the U.S. for its own cities.

In the U.S., we're going to find ourselves scrambling to invest in our young generations (even in the children of undocumented immigrants) so as to prepare them to fill the huge vacuum that will be left in our workforce by the retiring baby boomers, in order to keep the country productive and to subsidize the massive health costs the baby boomers are about to impose on the rest of us.

These are pretty clear facts. I've seen no one disagree with them. My assumption is that politicians will try to walk the tightrope between making sound fiscal and social policy decisions that are in the best interest of the country's future and having to appease reactionaries such as yourself who seem willfully ignorant of these impending changes in the economies and societies of both the U.S. and Mexico.

Why is it that whenever someone presents a logical point, supported by facts, no one in Migavia ever has a response?
