Boo hoo you horrible parents

Immigration rally emphasizes kids
In the weeks since her husband was stopped at the airport on his way to Ohio to look for work and then deported to Mexico, Berenice Louis has struggled alone to support her family.

Her husband, Juan Louis, 23, had been the breadwinner since they came illegally to the Seattle area from Mexico four years ago. He worked construction jobs while Berenice stayed home to care for their two young children.

So they both came here illegaly...

Wednesday, she and her two girls were among an estimated 250 to 350 people — most children — who rallied at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle.

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, who joined the march, talked about his own family's immigrant roots and said those marching wanted for themselves and their families no less than his own ancestors did when they came from Germany in the 1880s.

Seattle must be so proud of it's "leader."

You have to be some kind of dirtbag parent to put your own children in this situation. It's no one's fault but your own. You broke the law.

Anyone who thinks that we can pass a "comprehensive" immigration bill that will result in anyone going home/leaving after 5 years/paying fines without more endless sob stories such as this has not been paying attention.

We are either a country of laws and we will enforce those laws or we are a country where mayors march hand in hand with criminals and the media will help them shamelessly wave children in an attempt to distract from their lawbreaking and the consequences.

Daniel, what do you think the consequences ought to be for the lawbreaking of the Bush administration?

My forebears were immigrants, too: from Ireland during the famine, from France, Mexico, and England. Oddly enough, ALL OF THEM were sworn United States Citizens and damn proud to be such.
Not here legally? Don't let the door hit you in the *ss on your way back home!

... sworn in by officials after the United States government had committed genocide against the ... ahem, legal indigenous Native American population.

I just cannot understand the people that are sorry for something our great great ancestors did when they populated this country or owned slaves.
This is a new century and we run the country now! Do it with laws and respect. We didn't own slaves, destroy sacred lands or murder the natives.
We are now the natives! Get over our ancient history and create our future. We do not owe anything to the past. It’s over and done with and all of the people that suffered are now dead at least 2 generations! We owe it to our children to protect them from invasions and war on our soil. We owe it to our children to leave them a country that is strong and intact that other countries fear and respect. Right now, Mexico has no fear or respect and the result is millions of illegal’s telling us how to live and speak. You love Mexico so much, move there. Do it legally, cuz they will harm you if you don't.

Gotta love oversimplification of situations.... As a person with more than a few Native American ancestors, I can tell you that assimilation into a general American culture is what happened to most of the indigenes. There were a few really really visible inidividuals and groups that fought. They were not all, or even the majority of the natives. But hey, live in your revisionist history world...

Look, the second largest spanish speaking city in the world is East Los Angeles... Movements like MeCHa and La Raza have become accepted mainstream stuff... Any other country would have shut this down decades ago. (Just try going to France with a few million friends, tossing your visas and staying forever... dare ya)

As to the "lawbreaking" Bush administration, I propose they get the same penalties the previous administration got for pardoning business associates, perjuring to a Grand Jury, destroying sensitive documents, bombing factories on scant evidence because they were afraid of sending ground troops who they'd short-changed and repeatedly insulted ("I'm sorry general, but the president doesn't like seeing uniforms at the White House").

Personally I believe the "streets of America will run red with blood" speech by Saddam was justification enough to remove him.
