Wyden: amnesty isn't amnesty it's something else

Dear Daniel:
Thank you for contacting me about certain undocumented minors in the United States. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
As you may know, Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois has introduced the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, S. 729. This bill would make undocumented minors eligible to become legal permanent residents provided that they came here as children, have lived in the U.S. for at least five years, have graduated from a U.S. high school, enlist in the military or attend college for at least two years, and have good moral character.
When the Senate last considered the DREAM Act, I voted to keep the legislative process moving and to have a full debate on the bill's merits. Unfortunately, the bill was blocked from being considered and during this process several interest groups advanced misconceptions about the bill. The DREAM Act is not amnesty.

Vote Jim Huffman in November!

It's not amnesty! Sure they GIVE them citizenship and yeah they GIVE then residential tuition rates and sure they won't fine them or punish them in any way but it's not amnesty. Amnesty would be if they just GAVE them all those things, don'tcha see???

the (act) does not say which 5 years that they have to live in the country.

If it included a cut off date, then I think people would be more for it.

Otherwise, all they would have to do is bring their children over here and hide for five years.

Suppose Wyden proposed amnesty for rapist and murders. After all they live here and could be good citizens if we just excused their crimes. If they will just go to college we will make believe they never committed a crime(s). Doesn't matter which five years they lived here, right?

What I don't understand is what would be wrong with these illegals simply going back to their home country? My daughter was born overseas and my son lived with me overseas for four years. Should that country have made them citizens? They came home and did fine. Why not send illegals home no matter where they were born or how long they were here breaking the law?

Is this the same Jim Huffman backed by Oregonians for Immigration Reform that had their website hosted by racist news site New Nation and uses a polling firm that says slaves were “well-treated”, advocates death for gays and opposed women's right to vote? Is this the kind of group that Huffman pals around with? Why would anyone support a guy with friends like that?

Yes, as a matter of fact, that was the group that offered OFIR "best wishes" on their anti-immigration agenda ... even though, they take pains to note, that OFIR is "not affiliated" with New Nation. Not officially, anyway. ;-)
