Don't live in fear... unless you are criminals

Michelle Obama speaks to Hispanic caucus
Michelle Obama told a Hispanic caucus to the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday that they should not have to live in fear of raids by immigration agents.

Being Hispanic is not against the law... is she talking to illegal alien delegates?

Obama told delegates that her husband, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, wants to reform immigration policies and provide 11 million illegal immigrants a path to citizenship.

How does amnesty for illegal aliens benefit Hispanics? Depressing wages?

McCain also want to offer reward criminal aliens with citizenship. What the hell is going on? Only when one of the elites children gets raped, and murdered will they start to do something. Until then, we peasants can just shut the hell up. Show you what our country is headed for.

Why don't people think things through as to all the hidden costs of coddling illegal alien invaders?

Many of our citizens have been robbed, raped and killed by illegal aliens. Our jails and prisons are full to overflowing with them. Our hospital rooms are infested with non-paying illegal aliens.

Wake Up!

They have sent him several thousand dollars so he can defend himself in Delaware against felony criminal fraud charges. How stupid is that?

because the hispanics in the United States all have strong connections to both illegal immigration and amnesty.
how many Hispanics came here totally legally?
not many , not many at all.
so of course they want amnesty to happen.

Anonymous said...

Anon 12:20 -- I come from a very large Hispanic family, 2nd generation. The first generation came here legally with 11 children. Those 11 children married, prospered, and all have large families of their own, complete with grandchildren. None of us has "ties" to illegals. Trust me, there are millions of hispanic families just like us. To assume that "all" (and you did use the word "all") hispanic Americans have ties to illegal aliens or amnesty is bigoted and ludicrous.

Even with the large numbers of hispanic illegal immigrants accounted for, the fact is that the majority of Americans with hispanic heritage were BORN HERE, the same as you, and are American citizens, the same as you.

Anonymous said...

Daniel,

I hear you were back-to-school shopping at Walmart. I thought you didn't do business with companies that hire illegals?

Anonymous said...

It's kind of interesting if so many legal hispanic citizens don't have ties with illegal aliens, why aren't they protesting the government's policies of aiding and abetting the illegals?

C'mon, you know why. They DO have ties to illegals. And, they lie about it.

Yeah, Funny, McCain made the same speech. Funny too, Daddy Yankee endorsed McCain over his support for amnesty. Funny as well, the GOP launched spanish language ads boasting on McCain's support for Amnesty and his work on the Comprehensive Immigration Reform, something that the GOP says that McCain will get passed faster than the Obamessiah.

Anonymous said...

Dearest Gumby: I'll tell you why. It is because we are sickened by the rather thick thread of bigotry that runs through this issue thanks to people like the sorts we see on these types of blogs (Trasha, et al), who inserted disgusting bigoted attitudes and comments about Mexicans into the issue from the start.

There is no shortage of Hispanic citizens working quietly to solve the issue of illegal immigration.

Anon 2:12pm,

No, it's simply a matter of racism on the part of hispanics who are willing to protect, aid and abet the criminal illegal aliens. Hispanics won't protect, transport or house illegal aliens of African or Russian descent. So, it's all about La Raza, aka The Race.

The Race, get it, racists, it's THE RACE! They think they are superior to us and our laws and they want "their country" back.

Sorry, pal. I'm not buying your racist BS.

Anonymous said...

Hispanics are caucasian. So what race are you talking about?

Anonymous said...

"They think they are superior to us..."

Uhhh, more like superior to you and your bigotted ilk. Hell, the slug I saw inching along the sidewalk today is superior to you. The sad thing for you is regardless if Obama or McCain are in the White House, amnesty will be passed and the people you hate will be U.S. citizens.

Big difference between McCain & Obama?

Obama - Amnesty now and No more ICE radis. And with a Democrat Congress, he could get it passed.

McCain - Secure the Border and maybe then Amnesty for those that are still here and NO talk of stopping ICE raids. And a Republican to VETO far left D Congress!

I'll go with Enforcement of Laws, instead of Rewarding law breakers anyday.

Mr. Joe Loya, father-in-law of unjustly imprisoned Border Patrol Agent Ignacio Ramos, is ANOTHER Hispanic who is a GREAT American patriot! Mr. Loya and his daughter Monica, wife of Ramos, have been speaking all over the country for Ramos and his friend Jose Compean, fighting courageously to free them from unjust captivity. For the past 13 months, I have been publicly protesting for Ramos and Compean in Dallas, TX, and so far OVER 800 have responded IN FAVOR of the agents! Mr. Loya told me "we will NEVER be able to repay you for what you are doing for Ramos and Compean," whereupon I replied, "Rather, it is WE your FELLOW Americans who OWE your son-in-law and his friend BIGTIME FOREVER for BRAVELY serving and protecting us!"

Anonymous said...

Ramos should sit is butt in prison for the full term. The scumbag felon broke the law. Where is the rule of law? You people seem to call for laws to be followed unless it doesn't serve you. Like Tom Wenning the racist that was arrested for harrassing mexican laborers or Bruce Benkle the child molesting Oregonians for Immigration Reform member. Only the rules and laws you people want to follow matter. Garbage, pure garbage.

Anonymous said...

Ramos and Compean are two American Heroes who have been railroaded by The Bush Administration. They need to be exhonerated and paid reparations for the injustice that has been done to them and their families.

This country has rewarded a common drug smugler and punished the brave men who were trying to bring him to jutice.

Anonymous said...

Anon 4:28pm,

You aren't superior to anyone. Go play with your pet slug and leave the hard work to those of us who have a brain.

Anonymous said...

"...brave men who were trying to bring him to jutice"

More like criminals who were trying to play jugdge and jury drawing and firing their weapons illegally, maliciously and criminally and covering up evidence. They were tried and found guilty. Ramos and Campeon got what they deserved. They should just get comfy.

Anonymous said...

anon 6:24-9:27 you are one ignorant piece of crap. Ramon and Compean were doing the job that we pay them to do in a very stressful area. Just because Johnny Sutton and gang were able to manipulate the evidence and jury to make a case for this 2 time convicted drug smuggler doesn't make it right. If there is any justice, Sutton will be in jail and these two heros will be freed.
P.S. while there are great hispanics that are on the right side of this issue, don't forget that the person that helped bring down Ramos and Compean was a turncoat hispanic border guard friend of the drug smugglers family that chose friends over his American border guard brothers. Disgraceful.
Shove your rule of law up your ass you two faced waste of space.

Anonymous said...

People who try to smuggle large amounts of drugs into our country deserve to be shot, especially if they are illegal aliens.

We should have "open season" on all the cockroaches who try to jump our borders. That's the only thing they understand or respect.

Anonymous said...

Where did the debate go here? Daniel was talking about criminals, right? So Ramos and Campeon were brought into the discussion-- both by the way have been found guilty in a court of law. So the law is good only when it fufills an agenda? Sad, so sad. Campeon and Ramos are in jail for a good reason and that is where they should stay. Now back to illegal aliens...

Anonymous said...

Wasn't Ramos convicted of causing serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, and a civil rights violation and Compeon, convicted of illegally shooting an unarmed man and obstructing justice by willfully defacing the crime? Seems like justice has been served to me. I would hardly call these two felons heroes, but the mind of the conservative is often twisted. I suspect if the two convicted felons had shot a white guy there would be no mention of Ramos and Compeon. Seems like the anti-immigrant right has a pair of useful (be it criminal) idiots.

Daniel is Wrong
An interesting discussion is going on over at the Portland Mercury about the harassment of Mexican laborers by a group called Oregonians for Immigration Reform. Featured in the discussion is one Daniel Miglavs, whose apparent split personality is confounding the people who are posting on the subject.

The so-called "split personality" has to do with the fact that he is married to a Latina woman and is rabidly anti-illegal immigration. He also has a history of involvement in the 18th Street gang. And people say I've done a philosophical 180. Perhaps if Daniel didn't look like a skinhead, this argument wouldn't be given any credibility - after all, it is possible to be against illegal immigration without being a racist.

Daniel is a blogger, mostly writing about illegal immigration these days, but he has for some time been an active, outspoken right-wing Republican. I can't say I have ever read anything he wrote that I agreed with. But then, I don't read his posts that often. He just strikes me as an extremist and that sort of thinking annoys me to no end. But I do find it fascinating that one of his more outspoken critics at the Mercury accuses Daniel of being a hater and then calls him a "fucktard," all in the same breath. We're all blind to our own faults, I suppose.

As I've written before, the immigration issue is fracturing the Republican party power structure. But in what I would consider a big but unreported story, it seems Democrats are fractured by this issue, as well. I've talked with Democrats who think Pat Buchanan, as odd as he is, makes a lot of sense on immigration (he makes a lot of sense to me, too). On the other hand, no small number of Democrats see those who want to enforce immigration laws as barely closeted racists (I think in some cases that is true). And if you really want to have your brain twist up, consider this: The founder of Oregonians for Immigration Reform is an environmental activist. The point is, this issue is damned complicated and the usual categories don't apply here.

Here's where I part ways from Daniel and Oregonians for Immigration Reform. I would never get in the faces of these laborers and try to intimidate them because if I was Mexican, I'd be coming here, too. People pursuing freedom and a better life are not at fault for taking advantage of the situation that currently exists. We might think they could come legally, but the facts contradict that. I actually know well an illegal Mexican immigrant family who are truly assets to this country and who love the United States.

A lot of our political leaders would have us believe we have two choices - either enforce existing laws or come up with new laws, and they have succeeded in convincing too many activists to march in the streets for one view or the other. As I see it, however, such things as NAFTA, tax policies, and anti-worker policies have us so badly mired in muck that no easy solution exists.

In other words, Daniel is wrong.

Daniel's goals would probably much better served if the generous donors funding Oregonians for Immigration Reform paid for him and the other picketers to fly to Washington, DC and protest in front of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. where they could get in the face of George W. Bush. From there, they could head over to the Capitol with their video cameras and, a la Michael Moore, ask members of Congress what they plan to do, rather than using their camera to document police harrassment and accusatory counter-protestors.

Instead, their protests, whether motivated by hate for brown people or love of country or both (or neither), are succeeding only in bringing out more hate and distracting people from a very serious issue, one that I personally find very internally conflicting and would like to rationally discuss a lot more with thinking people.
