If you build it, they will come

Proof of citizenship not required
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children is a federal grant initiative that provided $1.26 million in food last year to thousands of low-income people living along the Idaho-Oregon border in Payette and Malheur counties.

That number is for two counties, imagine the number in Marion/Washington/Multnomah counties.

The number of local program recipients lacking legal citizenship status, though, is apparently unknown.

The WIC program was deemed “effective” following a 2006 study by the United States Office of Management and Budget.

There is no record, though, regarding how many local participants may be illegal immigrants because U.S. citizenship is not required to receive WIC services in Oregon and Idaho.

“Legal and illegal immigrants can apply for and receive WIC services,” Gene Gunderson, Director Idaho’s Southwest District Health, said.

Their version of "effective" must be different than mine. Mine says that "effective" means we don't help criminals.

Bilingual staff serve in the WIC offices for Malheur County and Payette County.

This is actually a very good news article. Just the facts. Criminals avail themselves of taxpayer services. Simple. We have an illegal alien problem not because the criminals are so "hardworking" but because they have figured out that they can come here for freebies supplied by John Q. Taxpayer.

Wow ... $1.2 million. That's a lot of money. Daniel, do you happen to know how that compares with the amount of money that I've spent on the war in Iraq? Include in that the cost of "reconstruction," and also the money we've spent on medical treatment, other related benefits and ... oh yes, funerals, for the troops. Feel free to round to the nearest billion if you're not sure. I know this must concern you because as a self-appointed advocate for me, you must have your eye on every penny.

It never ceases to amaze me how liberals get all teary eyed over the spending of taxpayer dollars on two things: defense of this country and prisons.

Needle exchange programs? All day. Abortions? Bill the taxpayers. Public "art." Who else would pay for that crap?

But defending America? Time to penny pinch.

It never ceases to amaze me that Daniel thinks he can attribute all anti-war sentiment to "teary-eyed" liberals when he knows damn well that there are plenty of Republicans who are pissed off about it too.

I work in Ontario from time to time. There is a long-standing Hispanic population there that is native Oregonian, at least in it's current generation. I was surprised that this group spoke English as their first language and many didn't even speak Spanish. It reminded me of Mexican-Americans in California.

OTOH, when you get over here to the Valley, it is illegal city. Illegals have to outnumber resident/citizen Hispanics something like 10:1 or more. Shameful.

What amazes me is that left-wingers can't stay on topic. Dumbasses.

Defense? There is no legitimate argument that asserts the war in Iraq as "defense." Hell, you can't even link it to terrorism.

Hey, anon 1037, blow me. Most of your Democraps voted for Iraq as well based on the Intel provided. MMQBing is fun for you guys, isn't it? Karma's a bitch, man. Watch out.

Yeah, man. War sucks. Especially the war on poverty that LBJ started. Is it over yet? I think we lost it long time ago. It's time to bring the troops home.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, 11:34, we blew it. Most of us (Dems and Reps) are trying to get us out, but we have an incompetant leader who still swears that we're fighting a defensive war and a war on terror. What's your point?

The war in Iraq is only a delaying action and we will all soon lament the passing of these final days of peace.

Enjoy it while you can you Liberal fools as Hell is coming our way soon.

We built it, they came!

$1.2 Mil IS a lot of YOUR money, especially if the Tax rate is say even 30%, a lot of you worked many many hours and earned tens of millions to pitch in another $1.2 Mil. for "Immigrants" that are supposedly "Good for the economy".
Tell me how all these Tax payer programs are "GOOD for the economy" (I do not mean Job security for Gov't handout workers).

Says at the Zoo "Don't feed the animals" they will get lazy & Fat.

Why do the Libs think it is OK to feed the Illegals? They are getting Lazy & Fat also! Seen the Hispanic little kids? Thier huge!
If people don't EARN their food, they become SLOTH's!

I've seen undocumented workers at work. The reason they get jobs is because they work hard.

You righties are just afraid because your jobs are in jeopardy because you're lazy. I mean look at COBRA--it hasn't updated properly for a month, and nobody has bothered to fix it.

I cannot believe what I'm reading here. the topic started as a post against taxpayer funded handouts for people who are in the country illegally, and within ONE post, some knucklehead had to drag the Iraq war into the equation.

This is the typical debate tactic used by folks who are ill informed (but who truly believe that they have all of the facts) and believe that thier view of any situation is the correct one.

I'll bet, by the twentieth post or so....some moron will call Daniel or someone else here a racist because of oposition to the above mentioned taxpayer funded program.

Some of you got off the track completely . you just want to talk about the presidents errors. The article was about the cost of a government give away program in 2 (TWO) COUNTIES IN OUR STATE. And while speaking about errors ,both Democrats and Republicans voted to go to war , the president didn't do it by himself. every one (except you)believed the intel reports out of the spy networks.by the way I vote Independant.

The cost of the Iraq war provides legitimate context. And if you want to compare apples to apples, visit www.costofwar.com and find out what Malheur County's share of the national total is -- it's $23,427,144, and rising. They don't show Payette County, but using some population figures and the city of Idaho Falls for comparison, their share of Bush's debacle is in excess of $21 million.

Dear Anon's 9:27 and 2:28, you guys are complete fucking morons. Oregon is infinitely worse off because of apologists and dipshits like you two. Phaegs...

War is one of a few legitimate reasons for the federal government's existance. If the war is just it doesn't matter how much it costs.

Therein lies the problem.

Daniel et al. - It is completely legitimate to bring up Iraq when you piss and moan about publicly funded domestic programs. In terms of the size of expenditures, there is absolutely no comparison to the cost of the war. Give me a break.

Furthermore, Bush is a fool. The first President in our history to take the country to war and not raise taxes (hell, he cut them)! War should be a collective effort where everybody contributes. My guess is that Bush knew he wouldn't be able to sell it to the American public and didn't want the spotlight placed on the war effort by asking people to give money out of their pockets to support it. Nevertheless, our children will be paying for this war for decades to come.

Can anyone make a coherent argument that the war has done anything but neuter the war on terrorism? I thought our goal was to snuff out radical islamic terrorists. It seems that Iraq is full of them...now. Why did we invade one of the most secular states in the middle east?

What the hell are we still doing there? The moderates in the Iraqi population at large that might have helped re-build their nation are either dead or living as refugees outside of the country.

Daniel, you hack. I'm not "teary eyed" over spending taxpayer money on defense. Nice try. Furious with continually sinking money into an incompetently managed war, yes.

Sounds like a bunch of conjecture and opinion. How the hell do you know where the moderates in Iraq are? Or who is dead or on refugee status?

The Islamic extremists are flocking to Iraq simply because it's easier to get there to shoot at the Americans. It was the same way in Somolia, and to a lesser extent, the Balkans. I would much rather have them travel to Iraq from Jordan, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Saudia Arabia, Iran, etc... to shoot at The American and Coalition forces than to try to gain entry into the U.S. and shoot at un-armed civilians here. And yes, a TON if the Insurgent terrorist groups are filled with foriegn fighters from the above mentioned countries.

Resorting to calling the President a fool only helps to undermine your debating tactics as well as the debate itself. While mistakes have been made in Iraq, and I must admit the war has been conducted by politicians rather than Generals, I say to you that Presidents are blamed for failures in ALL wars. Abraham Lincoln was detested by the press for letting the country dissolve into Civil War, and for the war lasting as long as it did. The Spanish American war was entered into by the U.S. when the battleship Maine was sunk by a Spanish "Torpedo". All the evidence of the day pointed to that conclusion. There were a bunch of Americans who opposed the War with Spain, but the U.S. went ahead anyway. The resulting victory added territories to the United States (Puerto Rico, the Phillippines, Guam, and others). Only in 1996 or so did we find the truth....the Main sunk when munitions and ordinance in her hull exploded, ripping open her hull and sinking her.

Hindsight is 20/20 my friend. Those wars were very un-popular, as were the Presidents who were in office at the time. Time will judge George Bush.

Daniel,

Seriously, I read your idicocy a week or so back and, finding you're only 25 (Christ, I've got shirts older than you. I've got opinions older than you) I thought "He's just a fucking child. His parents will come home, bust him on the computer and send him to bed". Alas, still waiting. They must be out of country.
Daniel, I'm ashamed that I share a first name with you, that I share a state with you, that I share a fucking genome with you. Grow the fuck up. Are all these "illegals" taking any food out of your fat mouth? I've seen your profile pic. Bet you're not getting any more backtalk out of that duck.
The answer is No. Daniel, the cunt doesn't want to work on a Christmas tree farm, or bus tables, or do shit-temp-agency roofing tearoff for minimum wage. So, that being said, what the fuck are you afraid of, you smug shit? You're not missing any meals. I've seen your house, at least the front door. You can afford a whole camo suit, down to the gloves. Ducks look out! Those "illegals" are just kicking your fat ass aren't they? When was the last time you slept in your car? Worked for minimum wage, was in the military? And that question's a biggie. I think you're a pussy. If the debacle in Iracle is such a good fucking idea, join up. They're taking anyone. Even morons.
BTW you can follow my slime trail to my blog-website-homeaddress. Come get get me you cunt.

Also the art work, the Catholic porn stuff - its offensive I guess but wow, Im into it - amazing.

By the way tough guy, my views are pretty much on-par with Daniel, and here are my stats:

12 years U.S. Army, decorated with two purple hearts and a bronze star with a "V" device.

Served as a Law Enforcement Officer
for 4 years

Volunteer my time for several community help organizations

Volunteer on my City Graffitti Removal Crew

What have YOU done to provide help to your fellow man?? What have YOU done to serve your country or community???

If you do volunteer for the community, kudos to you. If not, shut the fuck up.

I am not beyond getting in your face and giving you mother fuckers the beat down of your lives.

You fucking left-wingers couldn't solve a problem if it hit you in the face. You can't solve all problems at once. All problems cannot be inextricably linked. If you try to attack everything at once, it becomes an overwhelming project. Any asshole with half a brain can tell you this. As such, Iraq and the services given to illegal fucking aliens are not linked. And even if they were, it doesn't mean jack shit. You attack each problem on their merits and idividually, but you fuck faces don't want to do that. You want to link everything the fuck up to keep everything fucked up. Meanwhile, we try to unfuck the problem only to run into assholes like yourselves who would sell out your mothers for a bunch of illegal mother fuckers.

Un-fucking-real. Go blow yourselves already, you useless pieces of shit.

This is anon 11:09.

What a useless blog! Anyone care to reply to my post from this morning. Anthony, in respose to your question:

"How the hell do you know where the moderates in Iraq are? Or who is dead or on refugee status?"

Well, I read. The refugee situation has reached crisis levels. Most Arab nations are not taking anymore. Many cannot get refuge in the U.S. because they have paid ransom to thugs (deemed terrorists by the U.S.) who have kidnapped family members and thus, disqualified for asylum because the Patriot Act views that as providing material support to terrorists. There is a very detailed story in the May 17 issue of the New Yorker, if you don't think what I say is credible. Or simply google iraq refugees and you'll find a wealth of news links. Further, it's pretty common knowledge that Iraq has been drained of its moderates (the civil servants, teachers, doctors, etc). That's what happens when death squads start roaming the streets. Moderate people tend to look for new places to live. They don't join radical militias.

As for my saying it's bullshit that Bush cut taxes during wartime, an unprecedented act in the history of the U.S. presidency, that is fact, not conjecture. As for my saying war should be a collective effort where the population at large sacrafices their own earnings for the campaign, that's my opinion. Do you take issue with it?

As for the rest of your post, I found it rather tangential.

Oliver hart-parr and anon945, you contribute absolutely nothing in the form of constructive discussion or debate.

Yeah, I'm so glad that conservatives never resort to name-calling. They'd never call liberals "America-haters" just for opposing the war. They'd never call them "traitors." They'd never write books about liberals called Treason.

I wonder how Anon 9:45 and Daniel will feel about the USA PATRIOT Act when a liberal gets attacked by a mob, and the UPA is used to surreptitiously look at the comment logs of Daniel's blog.

They will then discover who Anon 9:45 is, and he'll face Federal terror charges.

Can't happen? Let's see, attacking innocent people for political purposes is terrorism. A Democratic President may be likely to view right-wing attackers as terrorists, and treat them accordingly.

My first instinct is that infants and children need to be fed regardless of where their parents came from or how they entered the country they currently reside in.

...But, meh. Overpopulation is a bigger problem, so it's better for the world if they starve to death. If they care, the parents will intervene somehow before that happens. I can't imagine many situations where it would be completely impossible to obtain food in the U.S.A.
