Message from Rep Donna Nelson

I just wanted to thank you all for writing in to show your support for HB 2459, the English Language Bill. I have some important news: the bill has been assigned to the House Committee on Elections, Ethics and Rules.

The future of HB 2459 now lies in the hands of the committee members, especially the committee chair, Representative Diane Rosenbaum. The committee chair can schedule the bill for public hearing and a committee vote, or could delay the bill indefinitely. I encourage you all to contact the committee members, your district legislators, and the governor, to show your support for English as our official language.

You can find contact information for all legislators, plus committee assignments, on our legislative website:

I have to admit, my optimism for this bill to pass is very low, but if we can send a message to our "representatives" that we care about this bill, maybe we can make a difference.

The poll (albiet non-scientific) on KATU last week showed 92% support for this bill, so even assuming a 20% (huge) margin for error, 72% support is still really big.

My opinion is that if the bill fails by a small margin, that will send a message. If it passes, well, we can look forward to a veto, I suppose...

We should always try...

It'll never see the light of day. This state welcomes illegals. It sucks. But it's true.

This is so funny. Everybody in Salem knows Donna Nelson is nuts. Not only will this never pass, but the idea that Nelson the goofball is the one talking to the media about it is hilarious. What in the world were they thinking?
They should have picked someone else to sponsor this if they wanted to be taken seriously.

The bill has a great deal of support, as Chris P noted - 92%, Anon 6:33 notwithstanding. But, if it does pass in both Houses and goes on to Teddy's desk for signing, you can bet your last dollar that Teddy the K will veto it. He will never do anything to upset the illegal alien voters of Oregon. It would not surprise me to see Teddy sponsor MexSpanish as the official language of Oregon.

First, we have to try. Second, this bill may die in comittee and never see the light of day but if both houses pass it I don't believe that Teddy would veto. Too much publicity at that point.

Right now no one knows about it, let it never get a hearing and it will stay that way. That's why it's very important that this bill get a vote.

If it does pass both Houses and goes to Teddy for signing and does get signed into law by Teddy (unlikely, I still think), you can bet some liberal knothead judge will overturn it saying it "discriminates" against the illegals, or some other stupid excuse.

Or worse than the knothead judge, the AmINOCLU will get into the act then things will be all screwed up for who knows how long.
