RE: Bush's speech today

I have to say that I wasn't too impressed with our president today.

I'll pick on the part where he said that he supports an increase in the minimum wage (aka paying people more than they are worth) but to prevent it from hurting bussiness he would couple it with tax cuts. Great.

That just means that the taxpayers will fund the increased wages. Real republican of you Mr. President.

As for all this "evalutaion" stuff about Iraq, I really do fail to see why it took the democrats winning an election to make us "look at all the options." Were these options not there before the election? Shouldn't we be in a constant state of looking at various options for victory?

We removed Saddam from power just as we promised we would and then delivered all the Western Porno, Booze, Drugs and Sex Trade biz just as the Imams promised we would.

We shit in our own mess kit all for fun and profit and now we must suffer the result!

Dan---wow don't fly too close to the sun. It's all about being flexable, only the bible is unflexable.

Ahh, the old minimum wage issue. Well it does allow us to FEEL better, like we care about the less skilled by raising the minimum wage. Libs and other "Do gooders" don't want to deal logically or factually when looking at raising the Minimum wage.

Labor is something that must be "purchased" just like anything else and thus has a value. If the price goes up, does the employer buy more, less or hold. Just like in our own lives, if the price of something goes up do we buy more, or tend to buy less?

Anyone who still supports the war in Iraq is either an idiot, a reactionary, or both.

Right on Tim, raising the min. wage really does nothing. ALL costs of doing business get passed on to the consumer, or else the business fails. So by raising the wage all we are doing is raising the price that we pay for goods and services or putting more people out of a job.

It's an endless cycle, which is why the Oregon system of adjusting every year for inflation is horrible. Every year the minimum wage goes up (by a larger increment each year, by the way) and soon after or sometimes before, the prices go up.

The next year, the minimum wage goes up again, causing the prices to go up again. DUH why don't the idiots in this state see this? We (as a collective) voted for this ridiculous law, and now we suffer the consequences!

Minimum wage is going to be $7.80 next year in Oregon... $7.80!!! Come on, the person cooking burgers at mcdonald's doesn't deserve $7.80 an hour! (mostly because they're illegal, but let's not get into that today).

You are sort of missing the point. The last thing at issue with the minimum wage is what those who earn it make. Most union contracts, and that includes state employee contracts have provisions to increase their wage if the minimum wage rises. When the minimum wage goes up, you pretty much just got way more expensive government.

Those are very good questions, Daniel.

Bush (with all due respect) is a dichotomy ! The tax cuts were good as were the 2 new Supreme Court Justices. However - the war in Iraq, his attitude on illegal immigration reform, Comprehensive immigration reform (another term for no change), his ability to be an effective communicator are all BAD !

We are fighting a politically correct war in Iraq that is an insult to the troops - who are to be saluted ! I fault the Administration for screwing up big time here. In hindsight, Sadaam remaining in power would have made our foreign policy in fighting the war on terror more effective - however, that is not possible, so we have to make the best of an ugly situation and confront Iran - may God grant them the wisdom - whether it takes a bolt of lighting or whatever !
