Schools have financial incetives for kids to run away

State’s Homeless Student Report: Homeless student population grows 18% as federal funding decreases 10%
Aaahhhh, we're all going to die. Quick, raise taxes, get more involvement from the state! No wait a second...

10,737 homeless students in Oregon reported sharing housing with relatives or friends due to economic hardship or similar reason

Ironically I think that we could describe most college kids as "homeless" under this definition as could anyone who shares an apartment with someone and splits the bills.

Imginary conversation:

Miss Crabapple - "Are you homeless Jimmy?"
Jimmy - "No but my Grandma lives with us..."
Miss Crabapple - "Wonderful my little homeless gold mine, we now get more money!"

And from the Register Guard story:

"Unaccompanied" youths, typically teens, are those who have been abandoned by their parents or have run away from home or foster care.

Parents who abandon their children should be arrested and charged. Kids who run away should not receive any support but should go back home. (and for those who say "but they ran away from an abusive home please refer back to the "arrested and charged" portion of this paragraph)

This is such crap and I don't buy any of it. The fact that every man-on-the-stree moron who was asked about this "statistic" attributed the "rise" to a "lack of affordable housing" just shows how powerful the liberal propaganda is.

How about: "are you homeless because your parents use meth?"

I'm homeless. I live with my children.

The lefties are so busy raising taxes, they can't take the time to teach the kids the 3 R's.

Oh, yeah, Home-schoolers rule!

Very nice, Daniel! Making fun of homeless kids! What a class act you are! What a bundle of warmth and compassion resides within your heart! Christ himself must be so grateful to you, doing His work on Earth ...

Keep up the great work! Spread the love! ;-)

yea "the old wise man" Daniel you are not old or wise.
is this the best you have to offer???

Daniel, if "homeless kids" are your target today, why not narrow your focus? You could be more effective that way. Why not make fun of infants who are left for dead in garbage dumpsters? Have a laugh at their expense! The beauty of it is, they can't even respond. Isn't that hilarious? Go for it. Don't be shy! After all, the ones that are found (alive) are sucking up your tax dollars, so let 'em have it with both barrels! Do not rest until abandoned infants are treated like the garbage that they are!

Anon 10:28 and 7:17,

Did you read the blog or just came up with something in your head?

Daniel is trying to get you to understand that the school districts are calling too many kids homeless that are really not homeless in order to get more money out of the government which means more money out of everyone's pocket. No where in that post did he make fun of homeless children.

Please try to remember to use your brain before you type and try re-reading the post before you comment on it. Maybe you just need to read it more than once to understand it.

To all of you idiots that posted here making accusations that the editor of the blog is "making fun of homeless kids", how about re-reading the post. The post is about how thw STATE determines who is homeless, and that federal funding has decreased 10%.

If you share housing, the state considers you a "homeless student". No wonder the "homeless student" population has risen, they are considering Room mates as homeless. That's the second stupidest thing I've ever heard.

The first stupidest was posted by "Wallace" at 9:41 am

Curious... in the past 40 years I've heard of perhaps 6 or 7 "babies found in dumpster" incidents. Seriously, even if I'm experiencing some sort of memory lapse, the total couldn't possibly top 20.

On the other hand, doing it a few weeks earlier should be a constitutional right? It's not a Child it's a Choice!

If you're gonna use babies in dumpsters as an attack, you might want to check on who's put more babies in dumpsters.

--------------------

Daniel is simply pointing out the semantical nonsense which goes on in order to guarantee the federal monies tap doesn't run dry. It's pathetic that we as adult citizens are expected to behave forthrightly and ethically, while our government itself routinely defrauds itself for funds. You see it here, you see it in transportation (Portland routinely runs profit negative transit schemes that have guaranteed federal funds attached), and you see it in land management. It'd be nice if our states and municipalities would stop trying so hard to milk the system, and behave responsibly for the interests of their constituents.

Don't kid us, Anthony. You didn't go to college.

Yes...Daniel knows a lot about "tax payer expense." He used to be quite expensive himself, right Daniel? How much did it cost us to arrest you, provide you with an attorney, prosecute and convict you, and then incarcerate in the State Pen? About a 1/2 mil? So tell me, do you have the "F" word tatooed across your knuckles? How about "F..k The Warden" on your buttocks....oh, oh...I know! I bet you've got WHITE POWER and a couple of swastikas emblazoned across your man boobies, right? ROTFLMAO!

DeLucca has a finely tuned sense of satire when it's directed at his political opponents. When it's directed at the Miglavians, stupor sets in. The synapses don't fire. He doesn't get it. Anthony, read Swift. You might learn something about the method.

BTW, Maliengus raises a good point. I'd like to know how much I got screwed over in taxes because Daniel was active in an "alternative lifestyle" during the long dark night of his soul. Daniel, for those of us who don't know the story, could you tell us how long you were incarcerated for? With that information, I'm sure I could muster some Miglavian math and, in the tradition of the ongoing campaign against "illegal aliens," pull some wacky number out of my ass "proving" how much I personally got shafted for because you were in the slammer.

I won't get a serious response from Miglavs, so does anyone know? Was it just drugs, or did he really run with white supremacists? That would explain a great deal ...

Anonymous said...

Wallace, I believe it's YOU who doesn't get it.

Read my post, and at the very least..TRY...to read the satire between the lines.

You may be a well rounded (having read SWIFT and all) but for you, and many like you, you lack COMMON sense.

Common sense, as Benjamin Franklin once said "Isn't".

Anonymous said...

I did read it. Understood it, too.

I've discovered something about you guys. You're literalists. Unless someone comes out and says, I hate Latinos," then they're free of the bigotry charge. You can do and say virtually anything else showing your undisguised contempt for the brown hoardes, for them, but unless you actually spell it out, you're not bigots. Well, bullshit. That is my response to you. Bullshit.

Miglavs is as incapable of disguising his contempt for the homeless as he is for Latinos. Read between the lines. "Lack of affordable housing" isn't actually a real, objective, specific factor that leads some people to become homeless. That's just "liberal propaganda." So if "lack of affordable housing" is not a factor, then what does this mean when we talk about homeless people? What are the implications?

I'm not going waste my time elaborating. Figure it out yourself. If you can. I doubt it. To spend anymore time than I already have arguing with a fool would make me the bigger one.

Bobkatt said...

Mr. "Bullshit" Wallace- the only thing worse than a "literalist" is someone that believes they see into the heart and mind of everyone else. The only ones that make this a race issue are you and your co-horts that insist on calling illegals "brown hordes" and making a point of mentioning the ethnicity of a majority of the invaders. As we continue to point out that we are against "illegals" from all countries, in your ignorance you manipulate that to mean only Latinos. While you continue to denigrate Daniel you never seem to get around to the real issues of overcrowding, overburdening the social services, pollution and ecological degradation, and most importantly the security of the border from terrorists.
As you defend this invasion you empower the globalists to create a North American Union and to abrogate our sovereignty to the United Nations. Thanks for the help comrades.

See the exchange at the bottom of the blog entry for 9/10, about the "illegal alien constituency." Case closed.

Nice to see that you're opposed to the invasion of one country by another. So you must have opposed the invasion of Iraq from the get-go, correct?

Born-againers who slide into the cesspool of right-wing politics are the absolute WORST. Smarmy, self-righteous little shits with barely enough brains to master basic motor skills. Incapable of humility or compassion. Who was that nasty bitch on "Little House on the Prairie," the one who always picked on Laura? Just like that. No point in arguing with them. They get their due, sooner or later. One way or another, life has a way of imposing itself. Karma. It's a wonderful thing.

Simply opining on what appears to be a bullshit definition of homelessness draws the ire of lefty trolls? Talk about being in dire need of a hobby.

I do not come on to this blog everyday.

But when I do, it never ceases to amze me, how weak the arguments are from the left-wingers.

It's almost like they want to prove how sophmoric they are.

Do they ever question what their superiors in the left-wing establishment tell them (The Oregonian is a left-wing organ)?

Apparently not, because they repeat the same sophmoric points all the time.

Left-wingers on this blog, learn to think for yourself.

You would find out how liberating it is.

Then come every day. We occasionally knock one out of the park, believe it or not. The Miglavians, however, watch the ball sail over the fence, and then pump their fists in the air: "We scored!" The crowd goes wild.

This is Miglavia.

You're an idiot.

Aww, isn't it cute?
Those awful Christian Right-wing braindead zombies! what about those evil "dead white guys" who gave you the right to spout your meaningless drivel without fear of a representative of Al-Quida coming to slit your throat. Yep, those scum-bag "born againers" must turn your stomach.
Must suck to be so disillusioned, and so full of hate.

I like when my government spends money to incarcarate people. I don't like my goverment when it invents homless people and spends my money to help them. The only legititmate role government should play is to protect us form criminals. Let the homeless be homeless. Repsect their lifestyle choice.

Then you must love the Bushies. They'll incarcerate you without going through that tiresome old formality of finding out if you're guilty or not.

R Huse said...

Good lord - If you are too stupid to see that the government classifying kids living with their grandparents as homeless is ridiculous then you are beyond help.

For the love of God, would those who want bigger government, government to decide what car you drive, government to run your health care or wipe your ass please get a grip. Since you want an all powerful, all seeing, cradle to grave government than at least be consistent. Either stop bitching about Bush or start thinking about how good you would feel if he were in charge of your universal health care, your housing, the car you can buy, everything.

What kind of socialist nitwit thinks government should be vested with more power in one breath, and then relentlessly goes on about how stupid Bush is, how evil the Iraq war is. What kind of fool bitches endlessly about the stupid president and then just cant wait to hand more of their life over to government.

Well, I guess the kind of fool that thinks classifying kids who have a home as homeless is reasonable.

Go ahead, I disagree with you, I can hear the "you're a racist, you hate kids" comments a coming. Brain dead ninnies. No one likes Bush, I hated Clinton and I hated Bush 1, Regan was a fool to bargain with Congress and Carter was and is unconscionably self absorbed. Ford couldn't find his mouth with a fork and Nixon couldn't figure out crap until he was out of office and wrote some damn good books. Eisenhower was the last great president precisely because he didn't do anything. That's why I don't want to hand over even more power to these idiots. Figure it out. Jesus you bunch of stupid muck heads.

If you think Daniel is a felon, call the police. He posted a pic of himself with a shotgun on his blog.

Prove to us he is a felon. Turn him into the BATFE for being a felon in possession ofr a firearm.

If your assertion is true, he will no longer be able to post.

To get back to the substance of the post...
...there seems to have been a misinterpretation of the definition of homelessness here. As the article says, "the tag is applied to students who have housing "insecurities" -- who are bouncing between coaches and cots at friends' homes, or who are living in a crowded trailer or cheap motel room." Kids consistently living with their Grandma don't qualify as homeless. Kids sleeping on their Grandma's couch for the week because Mom and Dad are doing meth and hit them and they're afraid to ask the police for help don't have homes.

I'm not sure what Daniel's suggesting here. He says bad parents that abuse or neglect their kids should be arrested and charged. But kids who run away from situations like that should be forced to go back to their parents. How do these kids get help if their only alternative, living with a friend or family member, puts such a burden on their host because they can't get help through the school?
