More "you lie"

Backdoor taxes to hit middle class
The Obama administration's plan to cut more than $1 trillion from the deficit over the next decade relies heavily on so-called backdoor tax increases that will result in a bigger tax bill for middle-class families.

In the 2010 budget tabled by President Barack Obama on Monday, the White House wants to let billions of dollars in tax breaks expire by the end of the year -- effectively a tax hike by stealth.

If the provisions are allowed to expire on December 31, the top-tier personal income tax rate will rise to 39.6 percent from 35 percent. But lower-income families will pay more as well: the 25 percent tax bracket will revert back to 28 percent; the 28 percent bracket will increase to 31 percent; and the 33 percent bracket will increase to 36 percent. The special 10 percent bracket is eliminated.

I guess he's living up to the letter of his promise that you will not be taxed "one single dime" more... it's going to be a whole lot of dimes.

Remember, the Bush tax cuts led to families making 28K a year getting a tax cut. All the while the democrats said, only the rich are getting tax cuts. Thus, one can only conclude, 28K a year is rich to democrats.

You know when Obama is speaking, he is lying. I can't find evidence of one truth he has told. Can anyone point one out?

Dave, Obama may be fundamentally dishonest (he is) but he's got nothing on Bush, absolutely nothing. Bush went one better: Not only did he lie, but he basically told you he was going to lie before he did: We make our own reality. What do you think that means? It means: We say absolutely anything ... regardless of whether it's true.

I didn't vote for either one of the guys, and hold each of them in equal contempt. Funny though, for every 500 words Miglavians use to bitch about Obama lies, you'll be hard pressed to find more than a dozen about Bush lies, which forces me to reach this conclusion: It's not the lies you object to. Not really. There's a LOT of disingenuous bitching about "lies" on this blog, by people who barely batted an eyelash at eight years of lies.

Anon 1:29,

Document the Bush lies. All of them. You people keep screaming "Bush Lied!" yet almost never tell us what those lies are.

Remember the definition of a lie: to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive. So, with that in mind, Saddam and WMD's don't count. The Clinton administration believed Saddam had WMD's before Bush ever arrived on the scene. When Bush was in office, just about every major intelligence agency in the world believed Saddam had WMD's.

Turns out Saddam had them after all. Pay attention to the date of the article.

It's time for all of you with Bush Derangement Syndrome to put up or shut up.

Kaelri,

According to the Administration:

- Our budget explicitly calls for permanently extending the Bush tax cuts for households making less than $250,000. - Our budget explicitly calls for allowing the top rate on dividends to increase to 20% for households making over $250,000. - Our budget accounts for the cost of continuing the AMT "Patch". The last administration's budgets ignored these costs, but we explicitly account for them. - Our budget extends expiring tax provisions through 2011.

In other words, they are willing to extend expiring tax cuts through 2011 - after which they will in essence amount to the very scenario initially described in the Reuter's article. Thus, the point is clear: the Obama administration does appear poised to deliver a stealth tax hike - just not at the end of this year. Rather, they're willing to hold off until the end of next year.

Equally clearly, it signals a shift away from the promise.

Frankly, I wouldn't have posted on the subject at all until much later in the game. And certainly never under the "You Lie" header.

After eight years of seeing spittle and drool-laden Leftist mindlessly shouting "Bush Lied!", the entire meme is completely unattractive to me. So I'm probably among the last people who would ever call Obama a "liar". He's a politician; and as has been abundantly demonstrated, a terribly underqualified one, with an unfortunate tendency to misrepresent reality.
