These boots are made for walking?

In case you thought it was just one or two nuts in Portland that want to force you to walk, bike or take the bus with that really pleasant smelling guy in the back here is a collection of government pages with the phrase "out of their cars" in it:

Tigard
The Tigard project is part of a broader strategy to get people out of their cars and to promote a healthier, more sustainable community.

Ashland
...demonstrate that there is a viable alternative to the car culture and that the downtown could be greatly enlivened by getting people out of their cars.

Senate Committee on Transportation
Discusses alternative ways to get commuters out of their cars.

GREEN HOUSE GAS REPORTING ADVISORY COMMITTEE
INDIRECT MOBILE EMISSIONS SUBCOMMITTEE
(DEQ)
Alternatives are not really working, hard to get people out of their cars. (really?)

Lake Oswego
If these people got out of their cars and into transit, that much room would be freed up for freight. (Resisting the urge to say "what do you mean by 'these people'")

2008 Northwest Transportation Conference
Getting People Out of their Cars, Travel-Smart and Other Mode Shift Strategies

The list goes on and on. We are simply "these people" to our benefactors in government and they want to control our lives.

I went to the first Oregon Big Look meeting in Tillamook last week.

After two hours of being "these people" a lot of folks left with a lot clearer view of the distaste with which our betters view us.

So THAT pisses you off more than a $700 billion taxpayer-funded bailout for Wall Street, possibly approaching a trillion dollars? Or is that just too big a number for you to get your head around? With all the bitching and moaning about nickel-and-dime projects you don't like, I'd think you could at least give lip service to $700 billion dollars. That's your tax dollars, bud. Where's the outrage?

Fuck these people. Who gives a shit what these asshats say? They can run their fucking mouths all day long, none of that will change the fact that I will continue to give them all a hearty FUCK YOU. I mean, anyone who listens to a government asshat in terms of how they should live their daily lives is a complete fucking moron.

Oregon has to be the most anti-car state in the country. I don't know what the fuck that is all about, but it is fucking sick, like some kind of fucking disease or something. Fuck you, Oregon governments. Go choke on a big dick.

Hey, 1:13, try to stay focused. Go blow your faggot load on some left-wing blog. The man here writes whatever he wants to write about, which is the purpose of a blog, you fucking moron.

I stopped driving my car. I now bike everywhere. I drive free and save tons of money. Plus, I am staying healthy too. I agree with getting people out of their cars. It sounds like a great plan. Where do I sign up to support this??? THX

10:34- your profanity laced comments are absurd. Try to come up with a logical argument rather than constantly venting your venom and sick language. It's really not that hard.

Wait until the inevitable winter rains begin. It'll be really hard to convince car drivers to walk to the nearest TriMet stop, stand in an open "shelter" and wait for the bus or MAX train, only to find it holds smelly, hooded creeps who glare at you and leer at the women while staring them up and down.

And, once the car driver is late for work a few times, he'll get the message his job security is better when he drives to work.

To read Daniel's blog, you'd think that jack-booted thugs were ordering people out of their cars at gunpoint. There's a difference, Miglavs, between creating incentives to use alternate or mass transportation (the unreasonableness of which STILL has not been explained by ANY Miglavian) and dictating that people not use their cars. Learn the difference, asshole. You sound like an idiot.

Actually, don't learn the difference. I prefer that you sound like an idiot. It diminishes your cause.

Anon 1034 is proving to all of us that he has a seriously limited vocabulary consisting of George Carlin's list of 7 words unacceptable for TV plus about 10 more words.

Started riding my bike to work in December, so it's been almost a year. What with insane traffic and parking, I actually save time. Takes about ten minutes. I've lost weight, in better shape, and saved hundreds of bucks in gas. Oh ... also: I like it. I enjoy it.

So Daniel, until you have the guts to respond on this blog and offer a sensible explanation, to me and others who choose alternate transportation, as to why this is "nuts," go fuck your fool self.

So, Daniel: You like your car? You like driving?

Then drive your stupid fucking car and shut the fuck up already. No one gives a shit whether you drive, walk, run, bike, swim, skip, or crawl. Seriously. No one gives a shit. You're good to go, okay? No one's going to take your precious vehicle from you, and no one's doing to dig up the pavement you drive on. Jesus, of all the idiotic things to be pissed off about or paranoid about! Are you on drugs? Or off your medication? Which is it?

Hey, I don't think Daniel would argue you with any of you fags who want to ride your little bike to wherever you want to go. What he wants is for you people to also leave him the fuck alone so that he can make whatever choices he desires to make. Government shouldn't be in the business of encouraging taxpayers to get out of their cars. Government here should be working on real problems, not engaging in a region-wide circle jerk. Really not hard to figure out, is it?

And for those of you who don't like the way I talk, fuck you. Think I give the first fuck about your opinion or hurt feelings? Go suck a sick dick already.

I represent angry America, and unlike others, I am willing to tell you exactly how I feel. You left-wing fags just don't like the resistence. Well, fuck you. I live free, unlike your faggot socialist asses. Eat a dick.

Well I guess you told me off. What a wanker.

7:40, thank-you for your attempt at an intelligent, relevant comment. Nice to read a post from a conservative who doesn't feel the need to resort to the "argument" made by Anon 7:42 p.m.

I ride my bike all the time. I used to drive all the time, but I switched to my bike. Not because "the government" forced me to, or "encouraged" me to. It made sense for me, so I did it.

I don't care what Daniel uses for transportation. He should use whatever makes sense for him, and he should also stop assuming that the lunatic fringe of the bicycling activist crowd in PDX somehow represents me -- "you people," people who ride bikes. He can choose anything he damn well pleases.

But in case you missed it, peak oil, soaring gas prices and population growth IS a real problem. It is more real than WMDs in Iraq, that's for damn sure. It's here and now, it ain't going away, it's likely to get a hell of a lot worse, and as a conservative taxpaying American, I'd like to see MY government DO something about it if you don't fucking mind. Safety and transportation are legitimate realms of the public sector, and it bewilders me to no end why the lunatic wingnut fringe of my own political party is so bent out of shape about alternative transportation. Pull your heads out of your asses, please, and join the rest of us in the 21st century and bitch about some real problems for a change.

And 7:42 ... grow up, for Chrissakes.

S. Holt-you obviously didn't read the 7:40 and 7:42 posts very well. It's the same flametard.
The gist of Daniel's post seems to be that he resents all the government expense and emphasis on micromanaging personal choice. It is obvious that the general population votes every day with their wallet that they prefer the independence of private vehicle transportation. These urban planners won't be satisfied until we peons are herded into large government tenements and shuttled off to work and back on cattle cars.
I have noticed that most of these urban social engineers have nice houses in the country or suburbs and drive nice cars. Go to these meetings and see for yourself how many of them show up on bicycles.
P.S. you are correct about population control being extremely urgent. The foreign invasion is responsible for the current population explosion in the U.S. If not corrected we can look forward to more crowded highways, schools, hospitals, and prisons. It's unfortunate that most liberals won't admit the connection between illegals and environmental degradation and social services collapse. You can't solve the environment, health care, and education problems by importing poverty.

It's not "micromanaging personal choice," Katt. Building bike lanes, building light rail, adding bus routes falls into the category of accommodating what increasing numbers of people are already choosing to do because of factors that have nothing to do with what some pointy-head bureaucrat dreams up at his desk. He gives government way too much credit ... and people too little credit.

Thanks to Holt for showing that not all Republicans are thoughtless morons.

S.Holt probably lives in Sherwood and drives a rice grinder Nissan pickup and rides Chinese made bicycle.

Way to support the economy!

Anon 740/742: Thanks for your intelligent and deeply thought out reply to both Bobkatt and me. I really brings to light the "depth" of your so-called education and the lack of respect for anyone and, most of all, yourself.

You say that you are representing angry America. There are a lot of people who claim to be doing that same thing, but they are doing it in a cogent and respectful manner. Not with the mindless, ignorant, and vile rhetoric you display nearly every time you post here.

s. holt: It is said that growing old is inevitable. Growing up is an option. Obviously Anon 740/742 hasn't exercised that option and isn't likely to. He comes off like a 10-year-old who just learned all these words and can't wait to use them on a grade school playground.

Bobkatt said...

anon 9:16- I might agree with you if the bureaucrats were focusing on meeting an increasing demand rather than dreaming of ways to "get people out of their cars". There is a big difference.
Calling most Republicans thoughtless morons is a cheap shot. I'm not a Repub but such narrow mindedness really cheapens your argument.
And to repeat, the main problem is population control. More people=more infrastructure, higher housing prices, more urban sprawl, more energy needs, more water needs, and more stress on hospitals and schools. When you have a boat with a hole in it and sinking, you can either plug the hole ( immigration control) or waste your time and resources in developing more ways to bail the water out. The governments answer to the leaking boat is to put more bodies in it to bail but eventually the weight of the extra people will still sink the boat.

12:25 et al, I will post in a respectful manner as soon as the left-wing idiots who come on here do the same. Normally I single out the poster(s) I am after. So if it doesn't apply to you, don't fucking worry about it already, you self-righteous pricks.
