Tues night rant

Is anyone else tired of politicians and their scandals? I'm not gay, I didn't solicit, I drove under the influence but they swept it under the rug, I raped the girl and everyone knew... etc etc etc.

Meanwhile we have The State excercising increasing control over our lives and even my family doctor opining (to my wife, since I don't go to the doctor unless you can see bone and even then I would try to self medicate with whiskey first) that "your child is perfectly healthy but I understand that you have loaded guns in the house and I'm concerned about that."

Yeah, be concerned if you show up on my property at 11:30pm and I think that you are a threat to my safety or the safety of others. Otherwise I don't need your opinion on my guns.

And the American Sheeple seem to have the attention span of the average American Idol watching idiot on the issue of illegal aliens. It was great that everyone rose up with one voice against amnesty but you notice that we are still pressing 1 for English, we are still arresting illegal aliens for serious crimes, we are still experiencing the burden of illegal aliens on our welfare programs and we are still standing by while The State looks the other way at certain lawbreakers.

But don't worry, George Bush is on the case. It was nice to hear him come out and bash the Democrats on their "attach a tax to every bill" tactic today. It would have been nicer if he wasn't spending the money like he was one of them.

The good news is that The State (yes, the same entity that has the power to send American citizens to foreign countries on a whim) is hiring a Problem Gambling Services Manager for $4,754 - $7,000 MONTHLY.

I'm seriously contemplating doing a doo-doo in my pants right now and seeing if I can find a state worker to come change me. I got $5 that says I can.

The good news is that my doo-doo will probably be covered under one of the new "Karl Marx Health Care Plans" that seems to pop up daily. Good Republicans are protecting us by conceding that we need socialized medicine but only for 90% of the population. The other 10% gets to pick up the tab since government reimbursement doesn't cover the whole bill. Thanks guys.

Thankfully I have folks like Mac Johnson with hilarious columns on American air travel (if I had been drinking during the "indigent monkey" comment you would owe me a new keyboard Mac) and our good friends to the south.

Sample:

Also more effective than giving the money to Mexico to spend wisely, would be piling the money up on the border one night and just setting it on fire. The light from a $500 million bonfire would surely scare away one or two illegal alien “mules” laden with “maximum strength” pseudofed.

When the good liberals succeed in completely destroying the tradional family I may propose to Mac for a gay marriage. (be flattered Mac, the "tolerance" crowd consistenly puts me up on the "men seeking men" ads and I get disapointed when no one shows interest)

So we carved pumpkins tonight and you all know that another hero of mine is Lars (sorry to Victoria Taft and Ann Coulter, I just can't make my hero a woman) and I went with a cheesey face rather the the Lars O' Lantern that I've done in previous years...

So Happy Halloween everyone, the scariest thing out there is government!

And just when you thought the month was almost over, another anti-gay Republican sex scandal. Damn the pervert scandals from the Grand Ol Pedophiles is like clockwork.

GOP Lawmaker Caught In Gay Sex, Extortion Scandal

PORTLAND - Police documents say a state legislator had sex with a man he met at an erotic video store in Spokane and then told police he had been targeted in an extortion attempt. The documents were released today.

Search warrant documents say State Representative Richard Curtis, a Republican from La Center, told police he was the victim in an extortion attempt by Cody Castagna at the Davenport Tower hotel last Friday.

Monday, Curtis said, "I have not had sex with a guy."

Castagna told police that Curtis agreed to pay him $1,000 for sex and also said Curtis purchased two gay pornographic films from the hotel for them to watch in his room.

Curtis is married and has children, according to his legislative Web site. He was elected to the state House of Representatives in 2004 and has voted against gay rights legislation.

Curtis was among state GOP lawmakers who were in Spokane last Wednesday through Friday for a retreat to discuss the upcoming legislative session.

Police documents say Curtis went to the Hollywood Erotic Boutique in Spokane last Friday and met Castagna, who accompanied him back to the hotel.

In 2005 and 2006, Curtis voted against a bill that granted civil rights protections to gays and lesbians. In 2007, Curtis voted against a bill that created domestic partnerships for same-sex couples. Both measures eventually passed the Democratic-controlled state Legislature and are now part of state law.

State Republican leaders have declined comment on the case.

Wow Daniel, were you drinking whiskey while you wrote that manic tome? That was horrible.

I'm quite impressed by your rugged toughness at not going to a doctor. You remind me of my tough-guy uncle, always refusing to see a doctor. He's dead now...at the age of 52...from cancer that was entirely treatable had it been detected before it spread to his entire body. I lament his death, and am mournful, but I also think he was a dipshit, selfish, delusional moron, whose wife and children continue to suffer because of his early and sudden demise. He had the same views as you on immigration, the government and "the family", but his apparent affinity with the traditional family form didn't impel him to act in the interest of his own family by taking care of himself and visiting a physician on a yearly basis to check up on his health. Hell of a family guy he was! The irony of it all is that now my left-leaning family goes to great lengths to take care of the material and emotional needs of the shattered family he left behind. What a tough guy.

You anon posters are absolutely the biggest pile of shitheads I've ever had the displeasure to encounter.

First off, all you do is bitch and coplain that the posts here are "idiotic", "Stupid", or "Contrived Bullshit". Yet, here you dipshits are, day after day. This just solidifies y opinion that you knuckleheads have nothing better to do, and no real opinion on anything.

There are only a few anon posters here who will actually bother to effectively debate any issue. the rest of you orons just start in with the "I know you are, but what a I" arguments. either that or you revert to the haggard old "Yeah, but what about the Iraq War?" baloney.

Your credibility (if you had any to begin with) has all but evaporated.

Oh yes...before I forget. You're all a bunch of cowardly douchebags. You may fire when ready Gridley.

Anthony - you apparently make shit up (e.g., numbers of illegal aliens) so what does that make you?

You See?? There is the "I know you are, but what am I" Argument?

By the way, can you tell me what I made up? Just because I make you find the numbers for yourself, doesn't mean I ade the up. It means your to freakin lazy to look for yourself, so in typical fashion, you attack me and claim that I made up the numbers.

If you're too stupid to do a little research, that's your problem, not mine.

Four experts, all of whom contributed to the study prepared by CAPS, discussed their findings at a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington Wednesday. James Walsh, a former associate general counsel of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, said he is "appalled" that the Bush administration, lawyers on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and every Democratic presidential candidate, with the exception of Joe Biden, have no problem with sanctuary cities for illegal aliens.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the sanctuary cities and the people that support them are violating the laws of the United States of America. They're violating 8 USC section 1324 and 1325, which is a felony -- [it's] a felony to aid, support, transport, shield, harbor illegal aliens," Walsh stated.

Anon 8:03

This is a snippet from the study. Find the source yourself you lazy.

"Walsh said his analysis indicating there are 38 million illegal aliens in the U.S. was calculated using the conservative estimate of three illegal immigrants entering the U.S. for each one apprehended. According to Walsh, "In the United States, immigration is in a state of anarchy -- not chaos, but anarchy"

Anonymous said...

"estimate" means you haven't any idea what the facts are. It is based on assumption and conjecture--the way most conservative think.

Anonymous said...

OK, so no matter where I get the information that you demanded that I source, you're going to refute it since it doesn't fit into the little box that you think in. When it comes to people sneaking into this country "un-documented", you will have no choice but to make an estimate you moron. What are you going to do? Ask all of the people who know that they have commited a crime by coming here illegally to show up at a particular time and date in order to be counted?

Attempting to debate a half-wit is senseless. I'm through trying to explain the obvious to a bunch of brain dead idiots.

Anonymous said...

Anthony - You are like arguing with a child. I HAVE found the figures for myself. They are, as far as I can tell, the most agreed upon and reliable estimates of the illegal immigrant population. The estimated number is 12 million. So when you go off citing a figure that is three times larger than this figure, I get a sense that you are either making the numbers up, or using a figure that someone else with a political agenda has grossly inflated.

So again, what's the source? I think you lack the confidence in your number to provide it.

The most widely cited estimates (and methods for obtaining them) can be obtained here:

http://pewhispanic.org/reports/report.php?ReportID=61

You could also look here:

http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/2ndfullTriReport.pdf

and here:

http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d06775.pdf

You have also stated that 85% of illegal immigrants in the US are Mexicans. According to the above Pew report, that is not even close to true.

There's no point in debating anything, Anthony, if you're peddling unreliable information.

Anonymous said...

Anthony -

"The PEW center isn't the only body that has done this type of research."

- no, but it is the most agreed upon estimate out there, based on the fact that it is relied upon by journalists, academic researchers and demographers, and the federal government including the department of homeland security. If you're going to carelessly toss around an obscure number that is over three times as high, don't you think you ought to provide some justification for doing so?

"I found the numbers, you can too."

- Good for you. Where?

"OK, so no matter where I get the information that you demanded that I source, you're going to refute it since it doesn't fit into the little box that you think in. When it comes to people sneaking into this country "un-documented", you will have no choice but to make an estimate you moron. What are you going to do? Ask all of the people who know that they have commited a crime by coming here illegally to show up at a particular time and date in order to be counted?"

- Um, there are actually pretty mathematically sophisticated demographic techniques (i.e., scienctific) for deriving these estimates that don't rely on survey responses. The PEW report is based on these techniques.

"Attempting to debate a half-wit is senseless. I'm through trying to explain the obvious to a bunch of brain dead idiots."

- You're a hack and a coward, and you are either unwilling or unable to engage in serious debate.

11 of 18 in burn unit undocumented

UCSD cases put focus on who pays for care

By Cheryl Clark and Leslie Berestein
UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITERS

The fact that 11 of the 18 wildfire victims lying in UCSD Medical Center's burn unit are illegal immigrants with no apparent health coverage highlights the daunting financial challenge hospitals face in providing long-term, intensive care for all those who need it.

With some facing a long rehabilitation, hospital officials said they realize many U.S. taxpayers don't believe UCSD should provide such expensive hospital care to illegal immigrants. But, by law, that care must be provided “to anyone who comes regardless of their ability to pay.”

Last year, San Diego County hospitals provided $619 million in uncompensated care, and an estimated 10 percent to 17 percent of that paid for treatment for undocumented immigrants, according to the Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Burn care requires ventilators, multiple surgeries, round-the-clock intensive care and grafts from human cadaveric skin. McAfee said grafts can be grown from patients' own skin to minimize tissue rejection at $500,000 per patient.

Last year, the average cost of treating a burn patient at UCSD was $45,000 for an average 15-day stay.

When patients need long-term nursing care, said UCSD spokeswoman Leslie Franz, “we make arrangements on a case-by-case basis. This could mean anything from them continuing to receive care from us, or we might transition them to another facility in that person's home state or another country, if we can expedite that.”

However, appropriate care in a person's native country is not always available.

Esmeralda Siu of the CoaliciĆ³n Pro Defensa del Migrante, a network of migrant shelters and other services in Baja California, said rules prevent the United States from sending Mexican nationals home before they can travel safely.

“By law, they can't deport them if they are injured,” said Siu, who is based in Tijuana. “They have to be stabilized, and that they accept leaving, and that they are well to travel.”

Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that advocates immigration restrictions, said that in the case of the 11 border burn victims, it might make sense to request assistance from the Mexican government or arrange long-term care in their home country.

“An illegal immigrant who is in Chicago and goes to the ER, it's hard to say the Mexican government should pay for it,” Krikorian said. “I think there is a plausible case to make for people who were sneaking across the border at the time of the injury, and clearly don't have any business to be there. We should tap the Mexican government to say, 'We need to share the burden here.' ”

The bottom line, hospital officials say, is that these patients need care.

“UCSD is faced with a real dilemma,” said Michael Bardin, a spokesman for Scripps hospitals. “Many of these burn patients will require care long term, and you can't discharge them to the street. You have to have some place for them to go regardless of whether they are legal or not.”

Several sources of federal and state funding can help hospitals recoup some of that money, but they don't come anywhere near a significant reimbursement, said Steve Escoboza, association president.

For example, the federal government provides $250 million per year for payments to eligible providers for emergency health care to undocumented immigrants. In 2005, San Diego County received only $1.4 million of that money.

A special Medi-Cal fund can reimburse costs of care for certain patients who can document strict criteria of U.S. residency, even if they are not in this country legally. But that fund pays for only a few days of care, or until the patient is stabilized.

Patients with severe burns may require months or years of physical therapy, medication and other forms of care. Sometimes these patients must be transferred out of the hospital to a caring family environment.

McAfee said that in many cases, Mexican patients who come to U.S. hospitals may have insurance through a Mexican family member. “If the patient is eligible for that, we will sometimes transfer the patient back to Mexico.”

Many times, however, the patient remains at UCSD, cared for with funding supplemented by other government sources such as Medicare, or payments from other patients covered by private insurance.

“We are all bearing the cost,” McAfee said. “That's the only way a hospital can break even at the end of the year.”

The Mexican consulate is willing to provide assistance to Mexican nationals who are fire victims, spokesman Lozano said. A woman who lost her home in the firestorm and wanted to return to her hometown in Mexico was provided airfare, he said.

The consulate has not received any request for financial assistance for those hospitalized, Lozano said.

A spokesman for the Border Patrol said the agency is held financially responsible for the medical bills of patients in the agency's custody. But it appears that the rescued border crossers are not in its custody.

UCSD officials said no Border Patrol agents are stationed at the hospital.

Immigration officials do not have the sort of formal relationship with hospitals that they do with prisons, said Lauren Mack of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Agents routinely scout prisons and jails for deportable individuals.

“We don't get calls from the hospital to pick them up,” she said.

Mack said the arresting agency, such as the Border Patrol, is typically responsible for maintaining jurisdiction over an individual it wants to guard.

Still, Mack said, even if the hospitalized fire victims are not in immigration custody, anyone in the country illegally is deportable.

Damon Foreman, an agent in the Border Patrol's San Diego sector, said the protocol with injured individuals who are to be deported is that “a doctor has to classify them as fit for travel or for incarceration.”

Foreman and other agents said that the priority during the firestorm was to save lives, and immigration checks came second.

“We are not sending agents to hospitals and going to everyone's sick bed and finding out who is here illegally or not,” Foreman said. “The Border Patrol doesn't do that. These people are there for help.”

Siu, in Tijuana, said the undocumented fire victims in the burn unit deserve to be treated the same as any injured victim of the firestorm.

“They have to treat them,” she said. “It is an emergency.”

Oops. Didn't copy and paste a few paragraphs. They go in after the first one. Sorry.

“These are the most expensive kinds of cases, but we don't look at these patients and say, oh, because they aren't legal residents, we'll stop providing care or stop changing their bandages,” said Dr. Thomas McAfee, UCSD's physician-in-chief. “It's part of our ethic to continue to provide this care no matter what.”
According to the Mexican Consulate in San Diego, the burn victims are from central and southern Mexico, and include one woman. Four are in critical condition. All were rescued north of Tecate last week, said consulate spokesman Alberto Lozano, and it is suspected they had crossed the border illegally before coming face to face with the Harris fire.

Four other people, two men and two women, were found dead Thursday in a ravine off state Route 94. Their badly burned bodies remain unidentified, although authorities suspect they crossed illegally before they died.

Those in critical condition may include a married couple from Guerrero, according to the consulate. The others are a 20-year-old man from Guerrero and a man from Chiapas.

Funny, Deluggi comes up with his own numbers with no sources. FAIR says "13,175,000".

According to a new report from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), How Many Illegal Aliens?, the illegal immigrant population of the United States now exceeds 13 million

They base the "estimate" or what I like to call a "GUESS" on a 2000 estimate from INS that there were 7 Million people in the U.S. that were undocumented. Go figure. It is a guesstimate of a guess-timate.

I suspect Duluggi is probably just guesstimating, the guesstimate of a guesstimate, tossing a couple 2-4 million people in for seasoning. What a ridiculous joke.

I suggest Deluggi and the rest of you minuteklan clowns read your daily talking points from your little hate groups. I hate to always have to do it for you.

Okay for all of you that want to debate how many illegals are in country, how about this what number would it take to get you to agree that there is a problem. There are so many families out there that would say one was too many and that one took away a family member or robbed them or assaulted them.

I don't care if there is 12 or 20 million the whole point is that they are hear illegally and are causing this country econimical disaster. Wake up people or we will lose this country.

Deb

Deb - when did your ancestors come? If they came prior to 1924 (unless you're Chinese, Japanese, or black) then it would have been technically impossible for them to come illegally, since anyone who could write their name and pass a physical exam at Ellis Island (not many failed it), could waltz into the country at that time. One didn't need documents to live and work in the US at that time, as is the case now. So, assuming that you are white, and that your ancestors came during the last great wave of immigration (roughly 1880 to 1920) or before, it would have been impossible for them to be anything but legal immigrants, since the illegal category didn't exist.

So, if all of the above is true, as it is for the overwhelming majority of the native-born, "white" population, then the "my ancestors came legally" line is historically ignorant.
