Things to do on taxpayer funded time

CULTURAL COMPETENCY: CHECKLIST FOR SUSTAINING MY LEARNING
1. I will continue to expand my experiences and interactions with diverse individuals and groups.
Examples:

2. I will access DHS resources on cultural competency and diversity in order to expand and develop my knowledge and skills working with diverse individuals and groups.
Examples:

3. I will continue to research and read about diverse cultural groups and their needs.
Examples:

4. I will attend workshops, trainings, and lectures about diversity and cultural competency.
Examples:

5. I will participate in a book club or study group related to diversity and cultural competency.
Examples:

6. I will advocate for time in staff meetings for sustaining the learning on cultural competency.
Examples:

7. I will maintain an open mind and a willingness to learn through all of my experiences with diverse individuals and groups.

8. I will not deport young American children to third world countries or allow parents to kill their children while a caseworker reads the newspaper.

Wait a minute, number 8 isn't really on the list. As you reflect on your workday today just remember that those Oregon income taxes they took from the paycheck that you earn went to pay the salary of Marita Baragli, DHS Diversity Coordinator, so she could come up with lists such as this one.

Any chance you might take a break fretting about the taxes used to pay Marita to raise concerns about the $535 billion in taxes spent thus far in Iraq? Or do you have any concerns about this? Any at all? I don't recall you ever mentioning this, and $535 billion strikes me as a pretty big number. Odd that you missed it.

I think about all the "commissions" funded by the State of Oregon, and it's mind-boggling.

Why does the state have a commission on Asian Affairs? Women? Blacks?

What battles are being fought on won on behalf of these groups?

Have you ever been to Adrian? (To find it on a map, look for Nampa, Idaho and work west.) I will grant you that during the WWII years, and the years immediately following, the Japanese who lived there where viewed with suspicion. But long before there was ever an Asian-American Affairs Commission--paid for by tax dollars--the issues that separated the neighbors living in Adrian were long dispensed with. So, if cultural or racial issues can be dispensed with in that backwater, what exactly are the goals looking forward for the OCAA?

"The mission of the OCAA is to work for the implementation and establishment of economic, social, legal, and political equality for Asian American & Pacific Islanders in Oregon."

Am I missing something here? Why would I want the government to implement and establish economic equality for anyone? Do they have social problems? Deal with it on your own. Legal and political equality already exists. But I can't think of a single asian that isn't excited about living here. The economic opportunities are incredible.

Unless the government steps in.

Anon 7:42 am. I don't think we paid those taxes. I'm sure it was printed or borrowed from China as congress loves to do. You must remember that congress makes the laws. That nitwit Bush just signs them. Don't forget the 50 billion for AIDS. Don't forget the 1.4 billion to fight crime in mexico. That would go a long way to build our fence to protect Americans.

As far as the oil is concerned, if that nitwit clinton had not put ANWR off limits, we would be enjoying the benefits of that oil years ago.

I'm waiting for Miglavs to wax indignant about the tax dollars that are used to pay his wife, assuming she's still at the public trough. Slap her job description up, too, Daniel, so we can all make fun of it/her. Let's all get into the Miglavian spirit of things.

Anon 807 -- I second that! I am very curious to know how Miglavs servant-wife spends her days at PERSI or whatever it's called. What does she do? And how does Daniel justify benefitting her salary furnished by hard working tax payers such as myself? Miglavians are gifted contortionists.

Actually, as a taxpayer, I am entitled to know exactly what Miglavs servant/wife does to deserve my hard earned tax dollars. I think I'll find out tomorrow. Hope I don't catch her reading the paper or copying recipes on the office xerox or checking out gossip blogs online --she better not be or I'll raise holy hell...

Well, here we are, July 8th and not a peep from Daniel about the "Respect For Law" act. Instead he wants to talk about pregnant "men," diversity awareness tips and fireworks.

I sense deep, deep, deep denial. And pain. Lots of pain.

Pobresito Danielito.
