Tax dollars can't find illegal aliens work

Day-labor site falls down on the job
The new city-sponsored day-labor hire site, which opened last month, could already be a failure. Or it could just need more time.

The site – a fenced-in lot at Northeast MLK and Everett Street – now attracts 70 to 80 workers each morning, but only 25 to 30 of them usually are hired by the time it closes at noon. There simply aren’t enough employers driving in, organizers say.

But the sidewalk workers, in essence, are stealing the jobs. Fifteen men stood at the corner of MLK and Northeast Lloyd Boulevard last week, their eyes peeled on the traffic.

“That’s one of the challenges we have, competing with the corners,” he said. “We need to find a way to get them here. We’re talking with the employers and day laborers. But legally we cannot force people to be here.”

You can't legally force them there? Since when are you worried about what's legal? In Portland we have a government that doesn't let a little matter like "legality" get in the way of what they want to do.

Start rounding folks up and force them into the government labor camp. This would be a fitting tribute to the political atmosphere of Portland.

We All Benefit from Open Borders?

Tell That to Danielle Bologna...

More victims of our nation's indefensible sanctuary city policies. Danielle Bologna and her family have paid a heavy price for cheap labor.

The smug open borders geniuses who love to spout off that "we all benefit" from open borders should try explaining that theory to Danielle Bologna. "Sure, your husband and son are dead and all, but hey, look how cheap your yard work is!"

Don't worry Daniel I doubt C.O.P. will give up on this bad idea.

And there ain't nothing you can do about it. Weather or not they go to the day labor site, undocumented immigrants are still working.

neofish-The only way we are going to put a dent in this illegal activity is for the families that are destroyed by these predators to file a lawsuit against these rogue officials like Gavin Newsom and Tom Potter for the violation of their loved ones civil rights.
These smug officials might think twice about defying Federal law if they were actually made to pay for the results of their thumbing their noses at the American public.
A "sanctuary-city" should be a place that offers sanctuary from these vicious murderous thugs, not a safe haven for criminals. A good first step would be the passage of Jamiel's Law.

Beaverton Public schools are using day laborers and illegal mexicans on a repair job on an elementary school .
call facilities think it is so nice we can help them send money back to Mexico. Iam sure Jesus is happy too. George Carlin told me so.

I thought Portland had financial problems like most of the country? Could they have used that money in a more responsible way? They could have hired another cop, or two more teachers. I guess Potter does not care about the children.

I went down and signed up for a job at the day labor center. There were 16 people who were hired out today. If they are having a hard time getting jobs, they didn't today.

Other than for purely political reasons, there is absolutely nothing stopping the Feds from raiding that place, and carting off every illegal they can grab. After that, they can grab the elitist city council members and Tom Potter for using city tax dollars to build and then fund the operation of the site.

Does anyone know why this wasn't put to a vote of the people? I can offer a guess: Because the people would have made sure that the issue sank like a sack of batteries that's why. But then, being that we are in Oregon, a similarly elitist judge who thinks he has the right to overturn the wishes of the voters, would have simply overturned the vote anyway. Just like the Gay Marriage ban that the voters passed......twice.....and a judge (without constitutional authority mind you) simply overturned the will of the people.

Judges are not here to make law. The executive branch does that. The Judicial branch serves to enforce and interpret existing laws. No more...no less. We cannot allow Judges, especially Supreme Court Justices (who are appointed, and whose tenure is for a lifetime) making crackpot decisions with no way for the people to remove them from office. THat's why Judges are not constitutionally authorized to create laws.

My logic is undeniable.

In my previous post, it should read that the LEGISLATIVE branch is tasked with making the laws, not the executive brance.

Sorry for the error.
