Oregon part of national trend: 2 of every 3 stimulus jobs is in education
As The Oregonian's Harry Esteve reported today, nearly two of every three jobs in Oregon paid for with federal stimulus money are in education.Of the 8,200 stimulus-funded jobs in Oregon, about 4,000 are teachers or other public school employees (read bureaucrats) and another 1,200 are professors and other faculty members at the state's seven public universities.

In completely UNRELATED news...

COLUMBIA COUNTY, OREGON
2008 - 2014 COMMUNITY COMPREHENSIVE PLANFOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

In Columbia County, the Hispanic population has had the largest increase since 2003, from 4.51% to 5%.

To meet this increased need, supports to our Hispanic population have been enhanced with an increasing number of bi-lingual and bi-cultural staff throughout the education system and in all human service organizations. For instance, St. Helens School District, the largest of the 5 local Districts, have full time teachers specifically to support Hispanic students at all grade levels as well as education and supports specifically for Hispanic parents. The drop out rate for Hispanic students (2%) is well belowthat of other students (8%).

Representatives of Columbia County’s Latino population identified community strengths: strong support within the Latino population, strong family relationships, availability and willingness to work, and increasing participation in broader community events. Barriers to healthy family development included deportation and one family member not working.

Allow me to rewrite the last sentence: Barriers to healthy family development include criminal activity by parents and one... family... member... not... working... which completely contradicts the statement of the last sentence about the whole "willingness to work" thing. Unless we are still talking about people who can't legally work in which case we go back to the criminal activity barrier.

The St. Helens school district, instead of serving children, wants to serve racial groups. Except in the eyes of government, a hispanic child born in America to legal parents has the same great opportunities as anyone else, there is no need for special teachers.

8 X 8 = 64 no matter what color your skin is.

The community that it Columbia County appears to be serving is the illegal alien community. The "hispanic community" (I am loathe to use that term) doesn't view deportation as a barrier to anything since you can't deport an American citizen.

Government agencies continue to aid criminal aliens and insult American citizens by lumping them in together.

The only Americans the government insults are bigotted and xenophobic ones. I am white and I support the programs. Latinos and Hispanics are making up a large percentage of the population now. You and your hateful cronies better get use to it.

Anon 10;35, why should a certain ethnic group get a larger portion of the pie? Can you explain to me what is bigoted and xenophobic about wanting every kid to have the same opportunities? It seems to me that you are the one that is bigoted and xenophobic against American children.
Why is that? Did you have a bad childhood? Did you only have invisible friends? Did your mother or father resist your sexual advances? Something in your childhood caused you sever mental problems. I recommend you get help.

correction in second to last sentence. sever = severe

Anon 10:35, as Daniel tried to get through your narrow and thick skull, No "groups" need any "special" help.

All Americans are treated equally and have exactly the same oppurtunities. As an American of Latino ethnicity I am appalled at the governments insulting of my Families intelligence that for some reason we need "special" help and I would expect Americans to be pissed at their government for wasting even more of OUR money.

How do you type with those knuckles dragging on the ground?

You’ve got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You’ve got to be taught
From year to year,
It’s got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade,
You’ve got to be carefully taught.

You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You’ve got to be carefully taught!

You've got to be taught
To ignore the truth.
You've got to begin
By teaching the youth.
Reward the teachers
That share your voice.
Stifle the parents
That ask for a choice.

You've got to be taught
Which laws to obey.
You've got to be taught
Which words are Okay.
Cry racist and bigot
whenever you choose.
Especially in arguments
You are likely to lose.

Cry Nazi, Nativist, or Ku Klux Klan.
These words come in handy
They're part of the plan.
Keep them defensive
If that's all you've got.
By calling them things
That they are not.

Bobca I love it . was that your own words. If so can I use them?

So which one are you Bobkatt?

Anon 8:40-be my guest. Not my best effort as I was pretty tired because I just worked all night.

Anon 8:58- Words are powerful but epithets do not an argument make. Using words such as hate, racism and bigotry to ascribe why others disagree with you is intellectually dishonest and lazy. We see this in the MSM's attempt to defame and minimize the millions of Americans that protested on 9/12/09 and in the town hall meetings. Rather than listen to the frustration and genuine concern of citizens they were often branded as racists or paid trouble makers.

When sore loser Obama hating teabaggers carry racist signs and say racist things they should be called out for that. This is what the MSM did. Teabaggers should be ignored as they don't represent mainstream American thought. They represent a bunch of fringe rabble rousers that are filled with hypocrisy and empty arguements. ie "Keep your government hands off my Medicare"

anon 9:45 AM, are you on the moon? I appreciate the laugh late in the morning. You don't know what mainstream America wants. Poll after poll shows Americans don't want obamacare. Where are and where were the racist signs? I did not see any when the millions of Americans spoke loudly and clearly. The only people I see acting in a racist and bigoted manner are the left wing commie nut jobs like you. I recommend you get glasses or take a reading comprehension class. The signs said KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF MY HEALTH CARE! I did not see any that said keep your hands off my medicare. I'm not sure if you know the difference, but health care and medicare are two different birds. I recommend you go back to fifth grade, no make that first grade. You need to look at what you are writing. You seem to have a lot of mental problems. You need to get back on your meds, up the strength or something.

Anon 9:45- thanks for the excellent example of my point. Millions of Americans get off their asses and gathered to express their frustration with their loss of freedoms, government takeovers and corruption and the MSM (and you) attempt to illegitimize and minimize their actions by deliberately using crude terms such as "teabaggers", fixating on a couple of signs and a couple of guys exercising their second amendment rights.
Your disdain and disrespect for mainstream America doesn't allow you to see the forest for the trees. Most Americans don't want hand outs they want jobs. Jobs that allow them to feed their family and pay their mortgage. They've seen the corruption and wasteful way that the government throws money at problems and know that they have the right and the ability to better decide how their hard earned money should be spent. They recognize that health care needs to be reformed but realize that the answer will not come from the bunch of corrupt bought and paid for special interest handmaidens in Congress.
Mainstream America doesn't hate Obama, in fact they voted for him in huge numbers on the hope that he would actually offer "change" but were quickly disillusioned by his "more of the same" B.S.
He offered transparency but is more secretive than Bush. He promised to get out of Iraq but is now amping up Afghanistan. He brought in the very people that are responsible for the financial meltdown to fix it. He promised honesty in government but recommended people that don't even pay their taxes.
Continuing to fixate on the racist "strawman" only allows us to avoid looking at the real problems and solving them.
