Way to kill more jobs

Les Schwab Tire Centers Pays $2 Million to Settle Hiring Discrimination
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today that it has resolved its gender-based hiring class lawsuit against Les Schwab Tire Centers of Washington, et al., and Les Schwab Tire Warehouse, Inc. for $2,000,000 and other corrective measures.

"The EEOC will continue to investigate employers and industries that have put women in certain types of jobs, and men in others. We hope Les Schwab becomes a model employer of women in the male-dominated tire industry."

The company is based in Bend, Oregon.

In related news I am currently preparing a lawsuit against both Ladies Home Journal and Cosmopolitan magazines for not featuring enough articles on power tools, work boots and trucks.

I am also going to do my part to fight this political correct nonsense and make sure that I don't allow any woman to change my tires at Les Schwab. Affirmative action employees aren't really the people I want touching the part of my vehicle that needs to contact the road when I'm going 65mph.

Men are only doing the jobs that women won't do.

In a day and age where female underepresentation in ANYTHING is viewed as discrimination, the government class honed in on one of the FEW environments that is predominantly male. Gender trumps qualifications, unless you're a man.

Nice dispatch and this post helped me alot in my college assignement. Thanks you as your information.

What's your assignment about? Undisguised sexism and contempt for women in American society?

I can think of quite a few women, Miglavs, many of them Republicans, who would not only disagree with you on this one, but could also kick your ass, particularly the one I'm thinking of who's been serving in the U.S. Marines for the last three years -- assuming you din't try to show off what a big bad boy you are by whipping out a gun and shooting them in the head.

I know several women who would be qualified to work as an installer at Les Schwab.

The problem is, they never applied to Les Schwab. Those guys work hard and get paid well. And that's where the connection between work and wages is discovered. If you're forty to seventy pounds underweight, can't press your bodyweight, well, chances are, you're not going to be a popular co-worker in an environment like a tyre shop. Either pull your weight or pull off.

Although, I am thrilled with the social justice of the decision. Nothing smells of success more than mandated equality.

if the women could do the job , don't you think they would hire them. The few women I know that could do this type of job are in construction, getting paid much more .
lets get the government out of privete business!!!!!!!!

In contrast to the bigot, I am only going to request the women to change my tires. The irony of that...

I’d love to know what Mrs. Miglavs thinks of today’s post. Not what she might write herself, to placate her idiot, but what she really thinks, when she’s laying there in the dark, wondering how the hell she’s going to get away from the freak next to her who’s snoring.

Our Schools are almost 1/2 Males, why are most of the Teachers female?

Boys are under-represented in our Schools, they have no mentors and like minded peers teaching them, maybe that is why our schools are failing miserably.

Hey Guys, we need to file a multi-billion dollar discrimination lawsuit agains the Or. dept. of ed.

They can afford it (Their Unions spend tens of millions every election cycle, they have tons of (our)extra money) and force them to hire more males.

For equality and all...

Democrats are making sure that tire companies go broke also and will become a Big Brother biz just like GM, Chrysler, Banks, etc.

The only reason Miglavs boasts that he's going to "do his part" by dissing a woman at Les Schwab is because he knows full well that he's never going to even encounter one who has a job lugging tires around in the first place, so he knows he'll never have to play the part of a sexist pig in public and make a fool of himself in front of people who would no doubt call his punk ass out on it, so Miglavs, do us all a favor: Stop blowing smoke up our asses. It's an amusing show, but no intelligent person believes you've got the balls to do much more than advertise the fact that you're a prick online.

...he's never going to even encounter [a woman] who has a job lugging tires around...

So Ralph, in essence you're admitting that there was no legitimate purpose to this lawsuit, which just happens to be the point Daniel made. If no women take advantage of the new forced gender equality out in Schwab's service bay, then all this lawsuit accomplished was the theft of $2 million dollars from a successful business.

Remember this, Ralph (and others of like mind): there's no honor among thieves. Look at the Democrat party. If these litigious leeches can get Schwab to "correct" something they don't like, they can get YOU to accept "correction" as well.

No, am not "admitting" that. It is extremely unlikely Daniel would encounter a woman in that job, but that is not to say that a woman (one who feels confident in applying for such a job) couldn't or shouldn't be able to, do it, and that if a lawsuit is necessary to remind the knuckle-dragging world that women do, in fact, deserve equal rights and treatment under the law, so be it. But I stand by the statement: Miglavs wouldn't have the balls to say anything in such a situation; I suspect he's far more comfortable being an asshole here online where no face-to-face contact is involved and there are basically no consequences. If I were the manager at a business where Miglavs demanded a man instead of a woman who was otherwise perfectly capable of providing good service, I would tell Miglavs to take his money and his silly Archie Bunker act elsewhere.

And I'm not a Democrat or a supporter of the Dem Party, so your final remark is beside the point.

Ralph, I never said you were a Democrat. Although your vapid name-calling and refusal to respond to the points I made certainly would make me think you are Democrat.

It is extremely unlikely Daniel would encounter a woman in that job...

If it's extremely unlikely Daniel would encounter a woman in that job, then wouldn't it stand to reason that you or anyone else would be just as unlikely to encounter a woman in that job?

...but that is not to say that a woman (one who feels confident in applying for such a job) couldn't or shouldn't be able to, [sic] do it...

Why not let Les Schwab make that decision? Or are you saying that Schwab shouldn't also have the freedom to determine and compare the qualifications of applicants to their service bay?

...if a lawsuit is necessary to remind the knuckle-dragging world that women do, in fact, deserve equal rights and treatment under the law, so be it.

So, Schwab is now the "knuckle-dragging" world? Is it because the services they perform are dirty and greasy? Is that what makes them neanderthals in your mind? Isn't that a bit insensitive? Tell me, oh enlightened and tolerant one, what good does it do for anyone to force a company to hire women for jobs they aren't exactly clamoring for?

By the way, in case you haven't noticed, women already have equal rights and receive equal treatment, under the law. Les Schwab is a business, not a court of law. Every company under the sun compensates its people differently, and has different expectations for different people. Is it fair? Maybe not. But not everyone has the same talents, same physical attributes, or the same ambitions. Life isn't fair, and never will be fair. No amount of bullying or legislative action will ever change that immutable law of the universe.

As for your remarks about Daniel, how do you reconcile your statements against those of certain anonymous commenters who continually claim that Daniel was convicted of gang-banging, drug possession, and weapons charges? If this is true, how can you claim that Daniel has "no balls" to merely request that a male employee schlep his tires around since he certainly had the balls to engage in activity that got himself arrested and facing the judicial system? It can't be both ways, Ralph.

Women now outnumber men on college campuses 2-1. I DEMAND equality NOW! This lawsuit gives a precedent to sue ANY college that has more women enrolled than men.

Sorry Daniel but I've got to cry B.S. on this post. According to what I've read on this case Schwab was wrong. For one thing they require managers to have worked on the line but they don't allow even qualified women to do so. Therefore women are not even considered for management. If you are so worried about affirmative action then you would prefer that a qualified woman be hired over a non-qualified male.
While I don't think many women would even consider applying for this type of work they should be given the same opportunity and the same scrutiny as men. I personally would prefer the person with the best experience to deal with my car.
