How do you say "thank goodness for Measure 66/67" in Spanish? These are just one day's worth of state workers who have the job of catering to illegal aliens.

What about the Asians? and Russians? Dont they too get their fair share of out tax dollars? Seems a bit unfair and all, now that the State is flush with 66 & 67. And the progressives say they fight for everyone. lmao!

... because if you speak Spanish, that's really all I need to know to be able to definitively state that you are an illegal alien. But I'm not a bigot. ;-)
ANON 8:24
The odds are if you only speak spanish, you are an illegal alien. Facts speak for themselves.
So does bigotry.
Dave: You are correct on one point: Facts speak for themselves. So let's look at some. According to the U.S. Census, there are more than 34 million Spanish-speakers in the United States. I also found some figures cited by an anti-illegal immigration web site that pegged the number of illegal immigrants living in the United States at 11.9 million. So given the fact that some illegal immigrants actually do speak English, please explain how the "odds" are that you're an "illegal alien" if you speak only Spanish. Miglavian Math, I assume? Or did you pull this one out of the "FBI/INS Statistical Report" playbook? Or did you just pull it out of your ass?
Of course leftists aren't bigots. Nope. Not in the least. Leftists aren't obstinately or intolerantly devoted to their own opinions and prejudices. Leftists don't regard or treat the members of a group (i.e., conservatives) with hatred and intolerance.
Leftists especially aren't hypocrites.
LW, using the numbers you gave us, the odds of a Spanish-speaking person living in this country being an illegal alien are about 1 in 3.
Pretty good odds, no?
Well, it depends on how you look at it. If I put two bullets in a 6-chamber pistol and point it between your eyes, would you say that you have "pretty good odds" of surviving?
Miglavs' comment leaves no room for "pretty good." He's made up his mind: Because these state workers will deal with Spanish-speakers they are "catering" to "illegal aliens," even though the odds show that two out of three of their clients won't be illegal. In Miglavian math, 1/3 somehow becomes 3/3.
Now Dave, I know, poo-poos climate change. Seems there was one group (out of how many worldwide?) that was relying on a few erroneous statistics (out of how many statistics generated worldwide over a period of decades?) that originated in one study (out of how many studies?) and that, all by itself, was enough to establish once and for all that climate change is a total fraud. The beauty of Miglavian math is its flexibility, adaptive to any situation. Tell me, if you have 10,000 scientists who say that climate change is serious and real, but you show me 30 (ah hell, let's be generous, let's say there's 100) who say it's bullshit, what does that say about the "odds" that climate change is real?
Go ahead, give me Miglavian Math 101. I could use a laugh. Oh, and Anon 1:02, please look up bigotry in the dictionary. It's not bigotry to be "obstinately or intolerantly devoted to their own opinions," although to believe that does mean that you're a fucking idiot.
Um, yeah, those are pretty good odds ... pretty good odds that a Spanish-speaker in the U.S. isn't an "illegal alien." WTF are you smoking? Particularly since you chose to screen out the no-doubt correct observation LW made about some illegal immigrants speaking English. You're entitled to your own opinions, but you aren't entitled to your own math. And not that it's going to change yours or anyone else's mind, but I have two friends for whom Spanish is the main language in their household (although they speak perfectly fine English with me) and even though they are both legal U.S. citizens, I'm sure they'd be thrilled to know that you are prediposed to thinking that the odds are "pretty good" that they're not.
Wow. Ell-Dub walked right into that one. You don't see a set-up like that very often.
Hey LW, according to Merriam-Webster, a bigot is, "a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices."
You also might want to look up the difference between fact and opinion. The ratio of the number of "Spanish-speakers" to Illegal Aliens is totally different than the ratio of people who hold one opinion and those who hold a different one. But I'm probably wasting my time...
Oh, by the way Daniel, it's "De cada uno segĂșn su capacidad, a cada uno segĂșn su necesidad."
So those who live in the Russian Orthodox community and speak only Russian are "illegal"?
Heads up, Miglavians, take note, because I'm about to do something you ought to have the balls and decency to do when someone catches you being demonstrably wrong:
Good catch, PsychoBob. Regarding the defintion, you are right, and I was wrong. I'll admit, though, that I'm surprised that one of the definitions is so broad as to include something as basic as a fierce devotion to one's opinion ... although, if that's the definition, it's simply one more way that Miglavs is one.
LW, Anon 1:02 here.
Kudos to you for your admission of error, although honestly, you really had no choice because there was no way to weasel or b.s. your way out of this one. I'll also take that as an implicit admission of your error in calling me a "fucking idiot".
Your lack of graciousness is noted. I know you're trying to save face with your gratuitous swipes at those on this board with whom you disagree, but wouldn't a better way to make yourself look good involve a simple, unadorned mea culpa?
Your lack of accuracy isn't a surprise, though. The definition of "bigot" does not include something as basic as a fierce devotion to one's opinion. If that were the case, then just about everyone would be a bigot. The operative words here are "obstinate" and "intolerant" (the latter being a word that lefties love to employ in reference to those they disagree with).
This time, I'll spring the trap for you:
Obstinate:
Function: adjective
1 : perversely adhering to an opinion, purpose, or course in spite of reason, arguments, or persuasion
LW, isn't it time for you to reexamine your beliefs? If you were wrong about a simple word, wouldn't it stand to reason you could be wrong about other, more important, things? All I'm asking is that you think about it.
Just because I was unaware of the entire text of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition of "bigot" doesn't necessarily mean I'm wrong about everything, and that it somehow calls for a wholesale re-examiniation of my my entire belief system. When I (and Kaelri) bring to the attention of Miglavians errors and inaccuracies they make, I don't see anyone here rexamining their belief system, and we sure as hell don't get mea culpa's rolled out to us on a red carpet. Hell, a while back someone posted a link to a fantastic article that was on the cover of American Conservative magazine, written by a conservative who did re-examine his belief system, his conclusion being that a lot of the claims you guys make about illegal immigration are lies and bullshit. I saw only one comment from a Miglavian who indicated that he'd even looked at the article. So much for mea culpas and re-examining belief systems.
I said: "You are right, and I was wrong." How much more of a mea culpa do you want? You want me to say it again? Okay. Let me embellish it, even: Regarding the definition of bigot in my 2:11 post, I was TOTALLY wrong, and Bob was ABSOLUTELY right." There. Happy? Move on, please.
Hey Anon 8:53, Don't worry about LW calling you a "fucking idiot." To him and other intolerant people like him, anyone and everyone who have the audacity to disagree with their babble is a "fucking idiot."
LW and his ilk are by definition the fucking idiots, not because of their beliefs, but because of their intolerance of all things they don't adhere to.
