Presidential race + a thank you

I'll start with Ann Coulter's new column: There’s a Huckabee Born Every Minute

As far as I can tell, it's mostly secular liberals swooning over Huckabee. Liberals adore Huckabee because he fits their image of what an evangelical should be: stupid and easily led.

Once you are done reading that you can note that Tom Tancredo will be dropping out of the presidential race so I will be switching my endorsement to Mitt Romney.

I would also like to put out a thank you to reader Calhoun who took the time to look up previous comments I made regarding Bruce.

From Calhoun:

No, I remember Daniel reprimanding Bruce for racist comments.

And I looked it up, it's easy with Google.

In Drug dealers: No more drug busts, Daniel's post from May 5, 2006.

In the comments, Bruce says "I WANT THESE FUCKING GREASY WETBACKS OUT OF MY COUNTRY and any other taco-bending motherfuckin' hispanic that sympathizes with them."

And Daniel comments : "Bruce, your angry words and name calling aren't helping. I have said that I won't regulate anyone's comments here but know that people will point to what you say when they talk about my blog. And remember, when you talk about Hispanics you are talking about my wife and kids."

Romney?

Weak on immigration.

Weak on taxes.

Weak on abortion.

Weak on guns.

I'm a little surprised. Why not Thompson? Or, if you want to continue supporting based entirely on principles without regards to electability, why not Duncan Hunter?

You might want to wait and see if Tancredo offers up an endorsement of his own...

Time to join the Ron Paul Revolution.

I like Thompson, I really do, very plainspoken. I don't like his record on voting for impeachment of the perjurer...

Ron Paul will not win, I like Hunter but he will also not win.

In the Giuliani/McCain/Romney bunch I like Romney. All we can really do here in Oregon anyways is send the candidates money which I don't do since I much prefer the special interest groups. OFIR and OFF thank you very much.

Well, I have to respect Fred for not siding with the impeachers over Clinton.

Seriously.

Imagine if we had "won" that battle and removed Clinton from office.

Al Gore would have been sworn in President in 1999. He would have had a year to separate himself from the Clinton years. It would have come during the height of the dot com era, when people were making money doing nothing. He would have received credit for a "great" economy.

2000 rolls around. Gore runs as an incumbent. And he gets to rally the liberal base by saying he is going to "get back" at the GOP that railroaded a popular president out of office.

He wins in a landslide.

Hell, odds are even Ralph Nader would have stayed out of the race.

Then we'd have had President Gore during 9/11. The sudden "failure" of the economy during the dot com bubble burst would be ignored by the media, and all would hail Gore for his heroism during time of war.

No, I don't mean to imply he would do anything great. But whatever he did, the media would love it. He'd be hailed as a diplomat.

Now, he'd be in his second term, with clear majorities in both chambers and no need to wield a veto pen.

Did Fred predict the future and see all of this?

No.

But he was smart enough to realize you don't kick a popular president out of office a year before his second term ends just because he had sex with someone other than Hillary.

Have you seen Hillary? Can you blame Bill?

If I had to choose between Hillary and Monica, you bet your ass I'd be sharing cigars in the Oral Office.

So while Clinton may have been scummy, and deserved to be booted, I agree it was the right call to let him finish his term.

Of the Rudy McRomnabee bunch, there are reasons to like 3 of them. If you've seen my blog lately, you can guess which one is not like the others.

Romney is OK and I would support him if nominated. But I'd rather nominate someone with a clearer conservative platform.

McCain obviously has big immigration problems.

Rudy is socially soft, but I don't care about those issues as much as national security.

Of the three, I take Rudy. But I would change to McCain if he admitted he was wrong about amnesty and vowed to move forward without it.

But on issue after issue, Thompson blows the RINO4 away. Only Duncan Hunter is close to Thompson on issues - but a) he is too fringe and b) he is too isolationist for a free market capitalist like me.

Ron Paul is just nuts. If you rub Paul and Huckabee together as hard as you can, you might get a spark between them.

GO FRED!

Actually, that failure, IF it happened, would have been significantly less as Gore likely wouldn't have BOTH cut taxes and increased spending like Bush did. Seriously, how is the gov't supposed to keep economic growth going when we increase spending by a ridiculous amount AND cut off its source of income? One or the other. And the next president will have to increase taxes and ax gov't services if he/she is at all interested in our economy.

Well, it's not even really a whole lot of something. Consider what Bruce said:

"I WANT THESE FUCKING GREASY WETBACKS OUT OF MY COUNTRY and any other taco-bending motherfuckin' hispanic that sympathizes with them."

Now, if I'm of member of OFIR and I am -- like Daniel claims to be -- not a bigot, then my reaction would have been something like this:

Bruce: How dare you! My wife and children are Hispanic, so unless you'd like to have my fist as a sandwich, I'd like an apology NOW. Furthermore, I'd appreciate it if you'd stay the hell away from my blog. I won't censor you, but I frankly don't want an offensive, unapolegetic bigot poisoning the discussion at my blog. It's ugly and offensive, I'm personally embarrassed to have associated with you for as long as I have without realizing what was really motivating you, and now that you've gone public with your bigotry, I'm going to recommend to OFIR that they completely disassociate from you and request that you no longer attend our meetings or protests. We want to be an inclusive group and obviously want as much support as we can get, but we're through with you. We are not going to tolerate shit like that, period.

Instead:

"Bruce, your angry words and name calling aren't helping."

Got that, everyone? He's not helping. Bruce wasn't being helpful.

Wow, did you study economics at Karl Marx U or what? Cutting taxes has increased tax payments to the government at all levels. Look at the State of Oregon. Also, it is not the function of government to “keep economic growth going”. That is left to the private sector and free market economics. The function of governments is, or should be, to stay out of the way. Finally, the government should cut “services”. There is too much government at all levels. Government should be reduced to providing minimum services like law enforcement, fire departments, infrastructure (roads, water, sewer, etc.) and provide for the common defense.

Reducing the size of government would be the best thing we could do for our economy and for the future of our country. After all, it’s for the children.

Man cries 'Heil Hitler,' beats American

- The Associated Press
Edition Date: 12/20/07

An American was attacked in western Germany by a man who shouted "Heil Hitler," police said Thursday.
The attacker confronted the 54-year-old American for speaking in English with a woman at a McDonald's restaurant in Gelsenkirchen, in the industrial Ruhr region, police said.

The man demanded to know why the two were not speaking German. The woman said her friend did not speak German well, and the American asked, "What's your problem?"

Police said the assailant then said: "We are in Germany. German is spoken here," before shouting "Heil Hitler" and raising his right arm. The Hitler salute is illegal in Germany.

The American, who was not identified, threatened to call police. As he reached for his cell phone, police said, the stranger head-butted him, and he fell to the floor. The assailant then repeatedly kicked his left ankle.

The attacker fled and the American was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

Police released two video surveillance photos showing the suspected assailant and appealed to witnesses to come forward.

I would tend to doubt it. If nothing else Eli is reasonably clever, and frankly does not strike me as either a 15 year old, or a more mature person with the sexual attitudes of one.

On the up side though, whoever did post this is clearly a person who flies solo when it comes to sexual engagement. Thus the one thing in his favour is he is probably not imposing his dullness on others.

By the way, I would like to say here for the record, apparently I was wrong a few posts back.It looks like the 12,000 stand up libs, who I thought were putting there money where their mouth is regarding higher taxes and returning their kicker checks was in error.

The count now seems to be up to somewhere around 3,000 who somehow claim their accounting program donated the money mistakenly.

I guess that cuts it down to 9,000 stand up libs, but who the hell knows if the count will go higher.

The whole thing is now amazingly funny if nothing else.

LOL. As you have shown, I guess having studied economics is better than not studying it at all, even if it is from "Karl Marx U".

Tell me this: What is the private sector supposed to do when Gov't puts the country so far in debt that the currency our private sector uses depreciates in value? And yes, while it is not solely the function of government to keep economic growth running, free markets are not the answer to everything. I'll use social security as an example (which is now, of course, a joke given a)poor management and b) $9.1 trillion deficit).

When a company falls on hard times, it's up to them to get themselves out. When gov't falls on hard financial times, such as a massive debt ($7 Trillion of which is our presidents fault!), it is up to them to get us out. And unfortunately, raising taxes AND cutting government services (which I'm sure you guys are for, but the cuts would come from defense as well as health services) will increase government revenue, getting us out of debt, and pumping more value into the dollar.

But guys like you, 7:43, are content to use your faux 'conservative' axioms until our country is drowned in debt until our dollar is worth near nothing.

That is what the anti-immigrant scum here better expect when they go to another country. The condemn Mexican Immigrants for not speaking "American", but they themselves don't speak the native language of the foreign countries they live. The fact is, most American immigrants in other countries, especially Germany, refuse to speak the language of that country. In fact, when I lived in Germany for a year, the most popular phrased used was "I don't speak German". Most of them never even tried.

As for Huckabee, I have to agree with Ann Coulter, he is the Republican Jimmy Carter. THAT is a scary thought!
I started out going along with Thompson, but when the "Friends of Fred" gang started calling my home phone, ostensibly to put out a campaign pitch, and no one was on the line when either my wife or I answered, he lost us and our votes for good. He will probably no get the nomination. I believe that Romney will get the nomination. but, if not, then surely it will be Guiliani.

If Guiliani gets the nomination, I might just write in Ross Perot. Anyone other than Hillary!

Excerpted from Fast Company, March 2006. By: Andrew Zolli
It's the futurist's first rule: You can't understand the future without demographics. The composition of a society -- whether its citizens are old or young, prosperous or declining, rural or urban -- shapes every aspect of civic life, from politics, economics, and culture to the kinds of products, services, and businesses that are likely to succeed or fail. Demographics isn't destiny, but it's close. Our leaders, as a rule, completely miss the boat on demographics and how it informs their own organizations, customers, and constituencies. And it's not hard to see why: Most executives aren't trained to make sense of demographic forecasts (there are no courses on demographics at Harvard Business School or Wharton, for example), and the field itself does little to raise its own profile. Demographers frequently come across like accountants -- without all that sex appeal.

Color Shift

Even as America goes gray (and promptly dyes its hair), its skin will become more polychrome. Buoyed by higher birth rates among minorities and increasing immigration from Latin America and Asia, parts of the United States will become as diverse as a New York subway car. Minorities will make up one-third of the U.S. population in 2016; in the decades to come, Hispanics, now one of every seven Americans, will be one in four. As Hispanic influence grows, it will be transformed from the undifferentiated "niche market" many Americans consider it to be today into a mass market in its own right, segmented by nationality, cultural experience, and other characteristics.

The cultural influx won't only be Hispanic, though. High schools will soon routinely offer Hindi and Mandarin as Asians become a still more influential slice of the populace. MTV is already launching new channels, MTV Desi, MTV Chi, and MTV K aimed at South Asian, Chinese, and Korean immigrant teens. We can expect a proliferation of culture not only pitched to Asians, but by them.

The rise of these new blocs will change American diets, tastes, and cultural references--but it will also redefine the notion of race itself, perhaps permanently. The distinction between black and white will become an anachronism: Get ready for the politics of brown. But this burst of diversity and immigration will affect regions of the country differently. Almost one-half (46%) of U.S. population growth in the next decade will come from three states: California, Texas, and Florida, which by 2016 will have overtaken New York as the third-largest in the country. The giant sucking sound you'll hear will be the national center of gravity shifting south and west. By 2016, where you compete may matter much more than how.

I see brown people. Read it and weep ethnocentric dinosaur. At least you can take pleasure in one thing Anony-moron: It will likely be a brown person who will be wiping your ass when you can no longer do it for yourself.

Scottybill-Please consider Ron Paul. He has been branded by as a kook and nut job but he is the only one running that is not business as usual. He is a strict constitutionalist which means his ideas will rankle a lot of the two party folks that don't have faith in our founding fathers and their wisdom. While you may disagree with some of his ideas, remember, he won't be able to single handedly get many of his proposals passed. But, he would have the Bully Pulpit that is needed to shine some light on the corruption and treason that is currently going on. He could be a whistle blower on some of the most urgent problems we are facing that the Repubs and Dems refuse to discuss. The only way to reverse the collision course we are on is to demand a change. Check out his ideas before you decide at Ron Paul 2008

Scottiebill said...

Bobkatt: No way would I consider Ron Paul. He would not do anything militarily against any other country unless they attack us first and inflict damage to us. Why should we wait until we are hurting before we go after someone like bin Laden or Iran until they hurt us again? His ideas on this seem like Pearl Harbor all over again, if he were to have his way. I just feel that if some other country or alQaida or Hamas or Hezbollah or any of the other nut cases around the world were to attack us again, as they did at Pearl Harbor or on 9/11, he would just say, "Gee, I wish you hadn't done that, Please don't do it again or we will get upset."

Answer: Pointless increase in the national debt. I really understand your perspective, but unfortunately, pre-emptive strikes create more problems than they solve (aka: Iraq).

Scottie-I used to believe the line that we need to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here until I realized that I'm not fighting anyone anywhere. It's not me patrolling the streets of Baghdad risking my ass, it's someone else's kid and I'm sick of seeing them killed and maimed along with the innocent civilians. Watching them open the borders to anyone including terrorists just underscored the fact that national security concerns are a joke among these globalists. Who else but Ron Paul is a nationalist? Defense begins at home. You don't patrol your neighborhood looking for criminals while your front door is wide open.
You may not believe it but I think we are very close to losing this country. The North American Union is not a far out conspiracy. When it's gone, it's gone for good.

Maybe we should keep in mind that the way the "grown-ups" are behaving today might very well influence the generations after us to think that a North American Union sounds like a very good idea. Im thinking they'll probably do a better job than we are -- that is if this planet is even habitable by then.
