Loved on the world stage

Not the first time either...

Damn, Obama shatters the tradition of an unblemished history of gaffe- and embarrassing moment-free presidencies with "news" that I'm guessing that "fair and balanced" (LOL!) FOX played on a loop throughout the day, with Hannity, O'Reilly, Beck, etc. all weighing in with their insightful "analysis." Oh well, it could have been worse: He could have, say, thrown up on them. Are you too young to remember that, Miglavs, or was that back during your gangbanging, drug-dealing days when you didn't pay attention to, um, important developments like this?

I guess you can thank the Republicans for destroying the U.S. reputation. I can't say I am surprised that other countries snub us when we start illegal wars, bash on our immigrant and minority populations and are downright fools when it comes to respecting our neighbors.

Anonymous said...

Yes, throwing up is WAY more embarrassing and humiliating than standing there with your hand out while half the world walks by you like you're a servant. Good one!!

A don't forget 'illegal war, Cheney, torture, it's all our fault, bush lied, we-hate-all-immigrants-but-conveniently-leave-out-the-word-illegal, miglavs-was-a-gangbanger, whargharbl....'

You're right of course, the US has been just horrible to the rest of the world, forcing all that money and food aid on those other countries, getting rid of all those dictators, leading in innovation, science, and healthcare.

You guys are too much! Keep posting crap that has nothing to do with the post though.

At least they didn't throw shoes.

Anons 7:25 and 7:41,

Are you serious? The statements that you've just made are absolutely the dumbest and most ill-informed statements that I have read this week. Everyone here is a little bit dumber for having read them.

Do some research, and count the BILLIONS that we give to our neighbors, and everyone else around the world.

Do some research and see how Congress and the UN gave thier blessings on the invasion of Iraq.
And you conveinently left out the word "Illegal" when you spoke of Americans bashing the immigrant population.

You left wing douchebags are absolutely clueless. That is why this left wing president will never make a second term. This is why the left wing congress will be trounced in the mid term elections.
Left wing policy is just as dimwited and out of touch as you two are.

Obama is an egotistical, elitist who should know better than to put his hand out for shaking before that of the eader of the host country. Moron, even I know better than that.

The various and sundry anti-Daniel Anonymice who consistently post here, damning Daniel for just about everything he believes are merely following the Komrade Emperor's lead, excoriating Daniel for everything he posts and believes, regardless of the topic posted. The Komrade Emperor does just that, blaming the Bush administration for everything bad that has happened in the U. S. since the Titanic hit the iceberg. And we all know that Bush caused the iceberg to be in the way of the Titanic, don't we?

All this is just to show the ridiculousness of these Anonymice's rantings against Daniel. Anon 10:09, you tagged these clowns exactly right.

An egotistical elitist? Okay, fine, I'll give you that one. He is an egotistical elitist, and I didn't vote for him. And Bush was ... What? Mr. Modesty and a man of the people? What color is the sky in your world? I seem to recall him declaring that he was basically doing the bidding, and essentially speaking for, God Himself.

Speaking of the Bush administration, I wonder how much time "fair and balanced" FOX "News" spent covering the latest on Cheney -- that he essentially presided over a program of political assassination and directed the CIA to not tell Congress, an interesting strategy that one might call illegal, for starters. I'll bet if you add up the minutes, they spent more time running the OBAMA SPURNED!!! video than they did on that. No wonder you moron Miglavians stumble through the world oblivous to reality, to things that actually matter.

Back to the point of the post, though...

That Obama gets snubbed by certain influential politicians in other countries doesn't erase the fact that when he goes to a place, say Europe, he is met by throngs of admirers, while Bush was repeatedly met by throngs of protesters. For me, at least, it's a substantial improvement to see that our elected president is respected by the people of other nations. I mean, you expect it in a place like Egypt or Pakistan. But when your staunch allies are taking to the streets against your president, that should give you pause...

More importantly, that Obama goes to Russia and is snubbed by Russian politicians all of a sudden reflects badly on Obama? Shouldn't this make you like him more? Do we know who the snubbers are? What if they are die-hard communists who hate anything from the West?

At the end of the day, knee-jerk partisan hacks like Fox News are going to have their cake and eat it too. Obama will be damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

Yawn.

Obama goes abroad and one person refuses to shake his hand.

Bush goes abroad and tens of thousands of people turn out into the streets to tell him to get the fuck out of their country.

Daniel, did you post video of any of those protests? I don't recall seeing any on your blog. Of course, if you were relying on FOX, maybe you weren't aware of them.

Do you realize, do you have any fucking clue, how petty you look?

For eight years we tried the go-it-alone, pre-emptive, your-either-with-us-or-against-us approach to international policy and diplomacy. What it got us was an extremly taxed military, mired in two wars run on emergency budgets that taxpayers had absolutely no obligation to pay for, support or even pay attention to meaning the burden fell entirely on military families; the widespread, and publicly displayed, use of torture; all while the domestic economy completely fell apart.

How long can a "global war on terror" be successful when you're repeatedly telling the globe to "go fuck yourselves; we've got this"? Reasonable and unselfish people realize that in order to get people to help you, say, conduct a cooperative war against terrorism, you often need to comprimise so that both parties feel they are getting what they need.

What could possibly be more elitist than the Bush/Cheney policy of comprimising on absolutely nothing?

I love my country, but we have entitlement issues, and I think a certain segment of the population feels that if they convince themselves that "America is the greatest country in the world" everything else will take care of itself. America is the greatest country in the world, for me at least. But it doesn't make one unAmerican to point out that we lag on so many important indicators such as education, child mortality and life expectancy, economic equality, violent crime, and so on, and that the American thing to do is actually deal with them rather than spend all our energies trashing people who point out that even our great nation is not perfect.

Anon 11:39 AM, can you name where we have "gone it alone"?

Dave,

Well, Iraq for one.

Granted we had the Brits with us, but the war was so unpopular in Britain it proved to be the end of Tony Blair's political career. He's now making amends trying to work towards a two-state solution in Isreal.

Are you really going to argue that we had much in the way of an allied force going into the Iraq war? Poland? Khazakstan (sp)? Please, Dave.

I think the single greatest sign that we have, for the most part, gone-it-alone, since 9/11 is that over the course of W's term, the goodwill of the people and governments in countries that have been our staunchest allies over the course of the past century turned into near universal disenchantment.

Are you going to try to argue that this fact has nothing to do with U.S. foreign-policy?

I'm not an Obama fan but out of fairness I looked at this video many times and came to the conclusion that Obama rather than being snubbed was simply jestering to the crowd rather than asking for a hand shake. Like it or not Obama has a large fan club throughout the world. For now anyway.

Thanks to Bobkatt for a genuinely fair and intelligent observation. Daniel, take note.

OBAMA IS NEO MARXISTS WAR MONGER ....RIGHT.

DAVE01 said...

Anon 1:13, you seem to have a very poor (or selective) memory. There were over two dozen countries that supplied troops. You show great disrespect to the countries who have supplied men and treasure to support us. You show great disrespect to all men and women who have died in Iraq. You look up the info, it is very easy to find if you open your eyes.

One story I remember when the El Salvadorans were under the command of the Spanish (remember their train bombing and then they left). Right after their bombings, they stayed in their garrisons and the El Salvadorans got into a hand to hand fight and the Spanish would not help them out. If I remember correctly, our ambassador gave them some medals. After that they were happy to be under the US command. They know we will fight with them, not abandon them.

You need to start using facts. The next time you use the go it alone bullshit, just shut the fuck up and let the grownups handle it.

Sure Toni Blair is making amends trying to make a two state solution between the Palis and the Jews. That will work fine when the Palis move into modern society. When they stop blowing up people. The jews were there first and it is their land, fuck the Palis. Time to go home and have a drink and salute our men and women in uniform and our friends who fought and died with us from dozens of countries.

Now, name where we have gone alone. I still don't have an answer.

Obama a "neo-Marxist"? LOL. Idiot Miglavian. Do you even know what "neo" means?

Scottiebill said...

Anon 7:15: If the Komrade Emperor is not a "neo-Marxist", as you are seeming to assert (which, BTW, means "new-Marxist"), then the Komrade would be an "old" Marxist. But, regardless of "new" or "old", he is still a Marxist. Or as Shakespeare put it, "A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet." The difference here is that this Marxist "rose" stinks to high heaven.

Scottiebill said...

One more observation: If the world leaders ar snubbing the Komrade Emperor, as they are doing in these videos, could it be that they want nothing at all to do with Komrade Obama?

Daniel, you posted two videos of Obama being allegedly snubbed as he tried to shake other peoples' hands. Since you didn’t bother to provide any commentary, can you please tell us why you posted this, and what you are trying to convey by posting this?

As for myself, I am left to believe a few things:

1. In the first video, it does not really appear as though he is being “snubbed” at all. In fact, it becomes obvious at the very end of the video that he is introducing Medeved to people who Obama apparently already knows. I suspect this would be even MORE apparent if we saw the whole video, instead of the out-of-context 13 seconds you chose to post. But, knowing that people tend to see what they want to see, I’m not at all surprised that the more petty members of the right-wing have been circulating this video gleefully.

2. Speaking of petty, this IS a sorta petty thing to post. And really, if there’s anything the right-wing in this country DOESN’T need right now, it is the allegation that they are practicing the politics of pettiness. I used to think Democrats held a monopoly on shooting themselves in the foot. But lately it appears that right-wingers wanted in on that action, and stripped the Democrats of their monopoly.

3. Since your post is called “Loved on the World Stage” Daniel, you would do well to be reminded that yes, in fact Obama generally IS loved on the world stage. By everyone? Of course not. But certainly more so than any recent President. Do you think that one video from Saudi Arabia proves the opposite, or even provides a compelling counter-argument of the opposite? Surely even your standards aren’t that low, are they Daniel?

4. And speaking of Saudi Arabia, I would bet a crisp $20 bill that the one person who refused to shake Obama’s hand in that video, is likely not a friend of America in any regard. If this is true (and again, I’d bet it is), can you explain how that would reflect badly on Obama?!? You know, since you’re desperately trying to make the President of the United States appear poorly?

Once again Daniel, I have stopped by here (I don’t stop by that often), and I am genuinely not impressed. And I really don’t mean that in a taunting sort of way. I mean, I am sincerely just not impressed by the shallow, not particularly insightful analysis and commentary that you seem to bring to the table. I initially came here because I heard your blog mentioned on the Lars Larson show. And I thought, “Well, if Larson was mentioning this as one of his favorite blogs, it must be a pretty good site for conservative analysis.”

Perhaps I should have known that if Larson was recommending it, it couldn’t be all that good. For someone who claims to adhere to the highest standards of intellectual integrity, Larson’s own commentary is often shockingly hollow and short-sighted. So I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that Larson would look here, and actually be impressed by this intellectual wasteland. Birds of a feather, and all that.

The supreme irony at work here, which I'm sure that Daniel is both oblivious to and probably incapable of understanding anyway, is that even if the person in the first video had intentionally barfed on Obama and the person in the second had thrown both his shoes at him, that still would have paled, on an infintesimal scale, the astounding level of hatred and contempt that George W. Bush managed to generate for himself in virtually every country in the world -- even those where the national leader grudgingly appeared with him all smiles, masses of pissed-off citizens were in the streets not too far away, a few degrees shy of yielding torches and pitchforks. The oddly triumphant display of these videos tells us very little about Barack Obama. But they tell us a good deal about Daniel Miglavs, who seems to think that because he's given up his old life, got a wife, has kids, a job and a nice home in the burbs, he's a man who's got his shit together. I got news for you, Miglavs: You aren't, and you don't.
