How long will he last if we "forget" to get him his dialysis?
At the very least, send the bill to Mexico or better yet, deduct it from the mass amounts of financial aid we give the bastards!

Over 18,000 on the OMIP that us Taxpayers are supplying for Illegal aliens like this guy?

How many of the other 18,000 are here illegally and denying Legal American Oregonians health care?

And the Democrats want the Gov't to run our health care? Sen. Pete Courtney(Democrat) told my freind in an e-mail "He does not know about this case" and non-citizens can't be on the plan.
Yet my friend included the news article!

Democrats prove again they do NOT care about YOU, only care about spending every penny so they can beg for more, and more(18% increase last session) and more (3,000 more Kids in headstart and Bilingual helpers required) and more (S/K Schools begging for a 1/4 BILLION $ new Tax for "Overcrowded" schools via illegals) and more and more and more...

PLEASE take an English grammar course. This is America! Take pride in your English. Learn to write properly! How long does it take? You've been here what? 50 some years? It's a crying shame.

What about Bruce "The Barber" Benkle, OFIR member and your good friend, Rick? Bruce molested multiple children and sits in prison. Why are we funding his existance? Or do you just want us all to forget about your buddy Bruce The Pedophile Barber and Oregonians for Immigration Reform member.

Anon 10:05 decides to stick his head in the sand concerning the real issue and attack Rick Hickey. Typical liberal attempt at deflection from the original topic of discussion.

Why not try to pick a side and make a thoughtful argument concerning the fact that the people of Oregon are paying $25000/month to keep a sodomizing, sexual assaulting, illegal immigrant alive in a country he shouldn't be in the first place?

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:00... yet another 'effective' liberal ploy. Show the world that someone else is just as sick as the first guy. I guess it makes it all fine then?

And, as one answer to your question, which I'm sure you didn't really want an answer for: We're paying for Bruce's incarceration because he is an American citizen and it is OUR responsibility to make him pay for his crimes and rehabilitate him.

Why can't you let Mexico take responsibility for one of their ownfellows?

Anon 11:19 --

I have been urging Hickey to do something about his deplorable bludgeoning of the English language for some time now.

Sure, it's unrelated to the topic but it's for his own good. Do you realize that Hickey's respect quotient as a spokesperson for both OFIR and Marion County Republicans is significantly handicapped every time he writes something that's for public consumption? His command of the English language directly reflects on the professional image and credibility of the two organizations he represents.

I hardly think that criticizing Hickey's obvious failure to learn how to write properly in English qualifies as an "attack." Maybe I'm just going by the standard definition of what an "attack" is Vs "criticism." Miglavs is hardly "genteel" when it comes to criticism of opponents. I smell double standards, 11:19!

Hickey is a grown man. He can take care of himself. If he can't stand the heat, he needs to get out of the kitchen. This is Miglavia. There is no mercy for shortcomings here.

When Hickey pisses and moans about the lack of English skills among Latino illegals, he doesn't bring credibility to the issue. Hickey's documented inability to use English properly while chastising those who haven't learned it is a big, fat joke.

I'm not the only one that thinks Hickey's dismal command of written English hurts his credibility and professional image. I've read similar comments by other PNW political bloggers. NW Republican and the Statesman Journal's online forum comes to mind, and there are others.

Put simply, Hickey really needs to do something about his grammar, punctuation and spelling skills. His inability to use English properly while representing two of Oregon's most visibile conservative organizations makes him (and the organizations) look... well, stupid.

How much are we paying for the MULTITUDE of illegal immigrants out there who aren't in jail? I'm educating a guess at around a quarter million per year maybe?

WHY are we not mandating that citizenship or legal immigration status be proven before the State cuts the check for anyone on this taxpayer funded health plan?

This makes no sense at all. Screw him, let him croak.

Delucca:

There's no way the average illegal alien costs $250K per year. You're way off on that or swallowing propoganda without doing a sniff test first. I would like to see the math on that. Those who are working (which make up the vast majority) are pretty damn healthy: they work hard, don't sit on the couch or in front of the computer all day and their traditional diets are WAY healthier that the traditional American diet.

I called OMIP this morning and any permanent resident of Oregon can apply for coverage, regardless of immigration status. They just have to prove that they are permanent residents of the State.

While this is a dissappointing state of affairs, at least those members who are here illegally have to pay something in to the system vs paying nothing:

Do the plans pay for health care services from the first dollar?

No. All the plans require the insured to pay for some services before the plan provides benefits. This is called a deductible. The plans have deductible options of $500, $750, $1,000 and $1,500. The lower the deductible, the higher the premium amount.

What is the maximum I will have to pay with OMIP each year?

If you choose Plan 500, your maximum out of pocket expense would be $1,500 per member, per calendar year, assuming you use in network providers.

If you choose Plan 750, your maximum out of pocket expense would be $3,750 per member, per calendar year.

If you choose Plan 1000, your maximum out of pocket expense would be $5,000 per member, per calendar year.

If you choose Plan 1500, your maximum out of pocket expense would be $7,500 per member, per calendar year.

These include medical deductibles but do not count any co-payments or monthly premiums. They also assume you use an in network provider. Using an out of network provider will increase your out of pocket expenses substantially.

The information above is from the OMIP website.

Seems to me it makes WAY more sense to protest something like this than the day labor sites. At least the guys at the day labor sites are working.

Anon 10:05:

Instead of discussing the issue at hand you are critiquing the grammar of Mr. Hickey in a blog posting, which is not a offical press release or whatever. Who cares if he misspells something or uses incorrect punctuation? Don't we all?

Then again that is why illegal immigration is a losing issue for democrats. They cannot push amnesty through on it's own merits so they call people opposed to it names such as "racists", "nativists", "bigots", etc.

I guess it is a lot easier to throw names around than to argue the issue.

Secret Service Catch Mexican Official Nabbing White House BlackBerries!

Whether he was up to no good or simply desperate to play BrickBreaker, a Mexican press attaché was caught on camera by Secret Service pocketing several White House BlackBerries during a recent meeting in New Orleans, FOX News has learned.

Sources with knowledge of the incident said the official, Rafael Quintero Curiel, served as the lead press advance person for the Mexican Delegation and was responsible for handling logistics and guiding the Mexican media around at the conference. He took six or seven of the handheld devices from a table outside a special room in the hotel where the Mexican delegation was meeting with President Bush earlier this week.

Everyone entering the room was required to leave his or her cell phone, BlackBerry and other such devices on the table, a common practice when high-level meetings are held. American officials discovered their missing belongings when they were leaving the session.

It didn't take long before Secret Service officials reviewed videotape taken by a surveillance camera and found footage showing Quintero Curiel absconding with the BlackBerries.

Sources said Quintero Curiel made it all the way to the airport before Secret Service officers caught up with him. He initially denied taking the devices, but after agents showed him the DVD, Quintero Curiel said it was purely accidental, gave them back, claimed diplomatic immunity and left New Orleans with the Mexican delegation.

It is unclear what disciplinary measures, if any, await him in Mexico. White House spokeswoman Dana Perino refused to discuss the incident, telling FOX News, "We are aware of the situation, but as it's under investigation by law enforcement officials, we will decline to comment."

Anon 1025:

I acknowledged my post was off topic at the start. I did not "throw any names around," nor call Hickey any names, personally. I am against illegal immigration. I completely oppose any PUBLIC assistance (except childhood education) being offered to anyone who is not a US citizen or a Federally authorized, card-carrying resident.
Anything else?

This is a public forum. As an appointed representative of Marion County Republicans and a recognizable player in the Gang of OFIR, Hickey is "representing" anytime he engages in any sort of public discourse or interaction, whether you "think so" or not. If he got shit-faced drunk at the Elks Lodge and started groping the help do you think Marion County Republicans would continue to retain him as their public mouthpiece? Hell to the NO!

Let's be straight here. Basically, what you want is only one uniform opinion to be expressed here, and only one group to be allowed to criticize without restraint. Correct? Yes, of course. It's the Miglavian Way.

Good Day.

P.S. what the hell does "hell to the NO" mean?

The point about Hickey and many of his pals, is that he constantly mewls about illegals who can't speak English as if not speaking English ranked up there with the bad stuff (like embezzlement and pedophelia).

In Miglavia, the inability to speak English would be a high crime. Yet, for all his whining and finger pointing, Hickey can barely construct a legible sentence in English himself.

Guys, I went to a public H.S. in Chicago and did not like English class or the Teacher and barely scraped by obviously.(this why my Wife is editing my book).
But let my low grammar skills be a reminder that I am not an elitist, I am a regular working stiff who got my G.E.D. and went to work at 17 making more than many factory workers earn now, 30 years ago, because to keep me there and with no flood of not really cheap labor available, they HAD to pay me an American wage & Benefits.
This one of my motivations, Americans NOT competing for wages with illegal 3rd world laborers.
Not everyone can or should have to be a College grad-Dr., Lawyer, etc. My Family are mostly into building homes in Chicago.
With 8 kids to feed and a stay at home Mom, my Dad couldn't afford college. And as a non minority male there were no special programs to pay my way.
My Kids will go to college as the options for just working hard to get ahead are vanishing.

To the topic....
"Immigration status is not considered" for OMIP!

How many of the 18,600 on this TAXpayer program are Illegals?
How does an Illegal who is UNemployed and in Jail, pay his premiums?
Why do you think Day Laborers are paying ANY taxes as the whole idea is CASH paid today.

and here is a top Democrat's E-mail to my friend not telling the whole truth and avoiding the issue-How many Americans are denied from this program because Illegals have maxed it out?

After I responded the first time, I learned that this individual was not on the Oregon Health Plan, but rather, the Oregon Medical Insurance Plan. The eligibility requirements are different. OMIP is a private sector plan. If an individual applies for private coverage and are denied due to existing medical conditions, they can go to OMIP. They still pay their own premiums as they would for any other private insurance.

'BIG D' TEXAS Parkland Memorial Hospital

Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas is a fairly famous institution and for a variety of reasons:

1. John F. Kennedy died there in 1963
2. Lee Har vey Oswald
died there shortly after
3. Jack Ruby-who killed Lee Harvey Oswald, died there a few years later..by coincidence

'On the flip side, Parkland is also home to the second busiest maternity ward in the country with almost 16,000 new babies arriving each year. (That's almost 44 per day---every day)

A recent patient survey indicated that 70 percent of the women who gave birth at Parkland in three months were illegal immigrants. That's 11,200 anchor babies born every year just in Dallas

According to the article, the hospital spent $70.7 million delivering 15,938 babies but managed to end up with almost $8 million dollars in surplus funding. Medicaid kicked in $34.5 million, Dallas County taxpayers kicked in $31.3 million and the feds tossed in another $9.5 million.

The average patient in Parkland 'S maternity wards is 25 years old, married and giving birth to her second child.

She is also an illegal immigrant.

By law, pregnant women cannot be denied medical care based on their immigration status or ability to pay. OK, fine. That doesn't mean they should receive better care than everyday, middle-class American citizens. But at Parkland Hospital , they do. ' Parkland Memorial Hospita l has nine prenatal clinics'.

That's right !!!! NINE.

The Dallas Morning News article followed a Hispanic woman who was a patient at one of the clinics and pregnant with her third child---her previous two were also born at Parkland . Her first two deliveries were free and the Mexican native was grateful because it would have cost $200 to have them in Mexico
This time, the hospital wants her to pay $10 per visit and $100 for the delivery but she was unsure if she could come up with the money. Not that it matters, the hospital won't turn her away. (I wonder why they even bother asking at this point.)

'How long has this been going on? What are the long-term affects?

Well, another subject of the article was born at Parkland in 1986 shortly after her mother entered the US illegally - now she is having her own child there as well. (That's right, she's technically a US citizen.)

These women receive free prenatal care including medication, nutrition, birthing classes and child care classes. They also get freebies such as car seats, bottles, diapers and formula.

Most of these things are
available to American citizens as well but only for low-income applicants and even then, the red tape involved is almost insurmountable.

Because these women are illegal immigrants, they do not have to provide any sort of legitimate identification - no proof of income. An American citizen would have to provide a social security number which would reveal their annual income - an illegal immigrant need only claim to be poor and the hospital must take them at their word.

Parkland Hospital offers indigent care to Dallas County residents who earn less than $40,000 per year. (They also have to prove that they did not refuse health coverage at their current job. Yeah, the 'free' care is not so easy for Americans.)

There are about 140 patients who received roughly $4 million dollars for un-reimbursed medical care. As it turns out, they did not qualify for free treatment because they resided outside of Dallas County so the hospital is going to sue them! Illegals get it al l
free! But U. S citizens who live outside of Dallas County get sued! How stupid is this?

As if that isn't annoying enough, the illegal immigrant patients are actually complainin g about hospital staff not speaking
Spanish . In this AP story, the author speaks with a woman who is upset that she had to translate comments from the hospital staff into Spanish for her husband. The doctor was trying to explain the situation to the family and the mother was forced to translate for her husband who only spoke Spanish. This was apparently a great injustice to her.

In an attempt to create a Spanish-speaking staff, Parkland Hospital is now providing in centives in the form of extra pay for applicants who speak Spanish. Additionally, medical students at
the University of Texas Southwestern for which Parkland Hospital is
the training facility will now have a Spanish language requirement added to their already jammed-packed curriculum. No other school in the country boasts such a ridiculous multi-semester (multi-cultural) requirement.

( Sorry for the length, but this needs wide circulation particularly to our 'employees' in Congress.)

Remember that this is only ONE hospital is Dallas , Texas . There are many more hospitals across our country that also have to deal with this.

So Rick wants understanding for his imperfect English? Gee, wonder if he practices the Golden Rule when it comes to the English skills of brown folk? NOT.

Rick - Don't you think some public squawking about illegals on OMIP would be more beneficial to Oregon taxpayers than the low-class taunting and mocking of guys at the day labor sites, who are obviously actively working to support themselves? I do!

Why doesn't OFIR organize a demonstration at the doors of the agency who runs the OMIP program? Or better yet, on the steps of the capitol building ASAP?

Illegals on OMIP, do something?

Just getting started, you saw the letter to/from Pete Courtney. Other politicians are getting the info as well now.

I was Jeff Kropf's host today & tomorrow on KUIK radio and talked about it.
Lars has been informed as well as Victoria Taft & Sturm in Eugene on the Radio.

And more WILL be done.

Speaking English? I focus more on our Gov't wasting our money to accomodate non english speakers more than the illegals themselves.
And do not like so many Jobs now requiring Spanish language people ONLY as all other immigrants, even from Asia (much more difficult transistion) make it a point to learn English.

Heck there is a Russian, a Democrat, running for U.S. Senate in Oregon - Pavel Goberman, in the Voter's pamphlet that says - "English must be the official language" as well as "Lock-up" our borders.

Can you admit that illegals being here for 10, 20 or 30 years and not able to speak a word of our national glue-English, is a SELF IMPOSED language barrier that must have its advantages for them.

To paraprhase a Hispanic State Legislature @ Dorchester on the mic...I am a real estate salesman, I asked the Daughter of a Hispanic gal why her Mom, who was looking at a nice home to purchase, why after living here for over 25 years she does not speak English. Her Mom said "Because I don't need to" "You people are stupid and your Gov't has made it so I don't need to and I get anything I need only speaking in Spanish".

This Hispanic State Legislator also said on Radio in Eugene, to the surprise of the Liberal host who was against English immersion in Schools, "I guess you educators think Mexicans are too stupid to learn English?"

Should a 25 yr. veteran of fighting forest fires lose his Job if he doesn't learn Spanish? How about a Teacher? A Nurse? A Police officer?

It IS happening and it is only because our immigration rules are not being enforced & Gov't sees all these needy language barrier types as a GOLD MINE!

On track to deny over 70,000 Illegals an ID this year!
32,000 = Criminals without ID means it is time to go home. No ID= No Job, Benefits, Bank account etc.

Thanks to Rick & Daniel & OFIR, the same will happen here.

I've never seen a job advertisment that says "Spanish language people" only. What is a "Spanish language people?" LOL. That's insane, Rick. And simply not true. Spanish speaking as in "bilingual?"
Is that what you mean? That's a marketable skill Rick, required by more and more businesses who are simply practicing free market capitalism in the times in which we live.

And a reality check? Asians don't necessariy "make it a point" to learn English. There are parts of Portland, Vancouver, and Seattle where I don't hear any English being spoken and the Asian grannies and grandpas OBVIOUSLY don't know it. At least be honest.
Russian communities are the same way. The older generations don't know it, but their kids do. I've seen many a Russian kid start kindergarten without knowing a lick of English. Don't believe me? Call Heritage Elementary in Woodburn.

I remember back in the early 80s when computers were the new
"requirement" for job applicants. I knew many a middle-ager who seized up in fear, refused to learn computers, and literally left their jobs over it.

Back when computers were changing the way we did business, employers absolutely had the right to insist that their employees learn this new and important skill. Those who refused to learn computers lost their jobs back then too.

This is not too much different. Spanish is a very easy language to master. If I owned a company and a significant number of customers spoke Spanish I would insist on being able to communicate with them so my shareholders and employees could benefit in the profit. What company wouldn't? It's a strategic business decision, nothing more, nothing less.

Hispanics spend nearly 800 billion dollars per year in this country. CEOs and shareholders have done the math.

Whether they speak English or not is besides the point when it comes to making money. That's capitalism. You know it and I know it.

Hey, I'm all for learning English! Do you know that every freaking ESL class in Oregon is full to overflowing and that they're begging for more ESL teachers? The waiting lists for any available ESL class in the Willamette Valley is insane.

I doubt very seriously that the Mexican woman buying the house said what you quote her as saying.

As for the Hispanic legislator who has such a woefully incorrect picture of what language immersion is and isn't, he's just plain stupid. Sorry to hear he is a legislator, but that's not surprising.

Dual language immersion is a wild success. Not only do language immersion educators NOT think "Mexicans" are too dumb to learn English (far from it) they KNOW that they're smart enough to master their mother tongue to perfection IN ADDITION to learing English simultaneously.

The miracle of language learning at an early age is well documented. Early language learners have accelerated learning ability, higher IQs and increased academic success long-term.

All over Oregon, 3rd year dual language immersion classrooms are now starting to bear fruit. These classrooms are blowing away traditional English only classrooms in NCLB benchmark tests, and not by a little, by a lot.

Ask any Oregon elementary school who has had a dual language immersion program in place for a few years.

Almost without exception, Spanish speaking 5 year olds enrolled in dual language classrooms ARE speaking English by the end of kinder and the Anglo kids who are sharing the classroom are speaking Spanish by the end of kinder too.

By the time they begin NCLB benchmark testing in the third grade, they're smarter and testing better than the English only kids now, almost without exception.

DUAL language immersion isn't what you think it is. It's WAY different that outdated "bilingual education." I think both you and your "legislator" need to get educated on just what it is and isn't.

Glad to know you are gearing up to stop illegal aliens from joining the OMIP. That's probably costing us WAY more money than the Jose Six Pack who's finding work every day at the day labor sites.

Just keep it dignified. OFIR ranks might swell if you guys class up your act at demonstrations and lose the taunting, mocking and toying, giggly camera-in-your-face crap.

Anonymous said...

So! We require all of our employees to know spanish. We pay for the classes and hold them on site during their work times. We also require english as well and do the same for those that don't have a good grasp of it. Employees are paid to learn. You don't have to learn it, but you won't be working for my company if you don't want to. Go work somewhere else. It is no different than requiring proficiency in computer operation. We take all kinds of employees, but I can tell you this, an employee not willing to learn a skill we require is not an employee we want to hire. The fast paced high tech global industry is no place for close minded and unskilled dinosaurs.

The fact is, Bilingualism is an enrichment and benefit to one's life. The U.S. may be the only country that doesn't require it's children to learn an additional language to graduate.
