No more buggy whips for sale?

Picker puts steel in immigration debate
Then the immigration debate came to him last fall, after he sold a quarter-million-dollar machine that harvests wine grapes -- the first in the Willamette Valley.

The New Holland Braud grape harvester can do the work of 40 handpickers in a fraction of the time.

Suddenly, vineyard owners were calling Capps to schedule demonstrations, saying they couldn't cope with worsening worker shortages -- or immigration raids. Their concerns were heightened after a U.S. Senate immigration bill that would have offered legal status for up to 900,000 undocumented agricultural workers failed, and immigration officers detained nearly 200 workers at a Portland produce processing plant.

Oregonians for Immigration Reform, a restrictionist group, touted the European machine as a beacon of a future without illegal labor.
This is much like the FBI is a "restrictionist group" when it comes to kidnapping.

"As soon as word about this got out, the immigration issue was the first thing that came up," Capps said. "The bloggers are all over it. They're saying, 'Finally, see? We told you that you could get by without all this immigration.' "

Anyone who is so inclined can do a search of my blog for "mechanization" and see that I was convinced long long ago that this would be the direction that we are heading in. Amazing how capitalism works. Imagine the good paying jobs that went into designing/engineering, building and maintaning these machines.

Congratulations on your wisdom. Now can you predict something that's not so general like say how we can fund jails?

Scottiebill said...

Anon: You could start funding jails, and state police, by somehow getting the state legislatures and the county commissioners and the city councils off their dead butts to start funding this essential things rather than the stupid things they all are so fond of - like the cultural arts centers, light rail that hauls only 3% of the commuters, bike lanes on the busiest streets, etc.

But we all know when that stuff is going to happen, don't we?

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:00,

Do you really need someone to tell you how we can fund our jails (and public safety in general for that matter)?

It doesn't take a degree in economics to see that the irresponsible manner in which the State spends your tax dollars is disgusting. If a private corporation were run this way.......it would be an airline.

Funding public art for ALL public buildings and spaces.....HUGE waste of tax money.

Renting office space in the private sector, while office space in State owned buildings sits vacant.......HUGE waste of tax money.

Sending State Workers to Hawaii for Diversity Training......HUGE waste of tax money.

Building a huge county jail, then letting it sit vacant for three years (and counting)........HUGE waste of tax money.

And the hits just keep on coming.

Another Republican Sex Scandel. Seems Republicans have a hard time following their bible and keeping their dicks in their pants around children and prostitutes. This is just another reason why the Republican Party RNC/GOP needs to be ranked alongside NAMBLA as an organization that gives safe harbor to pedophiles, sex offenders and sexual deviancy.

Vitter Linked to Brothel

NEW ORLEANS — New allegations tie Sen. David Vitter to a high-priced brothel in his hometown, days after he publicly apologized for his connection to an alleged prostitution ring in Washington, D.C.

Vitter (R-La.) acknowledged being involved with a D.C. escort service that federal prosecutors say was a prostitution ring.

On Tuesday, former madam Jeanette Maier said Vitter was once a client of her Canal Street brothel. She pleaded guilty to running the operation in 2002. Vitter won his seat in the U.S. Senate in 2004.

Maier described Vitter as a "decent guy" who appeared to be in need of company when he visited the brothel.

"As far as the girls coming out after seeing David, all they had was nice things to say. It wasn't all about sex. In fact, he just wanted to have somebody listen to him, you know," Maier said in an interview with the Associated Press.

Vitter's office did not respond to calls for comment on the latest allegations.

Vitter, 46, and his wife, Wendy, live in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie with their four children.

Daniel, in that hit and run last year in the Gorge, they are charging the driver.

The driver: The sheriff's office identified him as Rocendo Rosales-Corona, 25, of Mexico.

Guess where he is at? Mexico!

Angie-THANK YOU for following through as we talked about this weeks ago. Now Thousands have read the FACTS and LARS LARSON talked about it also today.

WE DO NOT NEED ANY ILLEGAL LABOR!

All of a sudden the Media wakes up and reports on options to Illegal Labor such as many reports now out of Georgia, Arizona and Oklahoma of many fleeing because they can't take a Job or get a License or get thier Car Registered

WE DO NOT NEED AMNESTY-ENFORCEMENT IS WORKING, at least where there IS enforcement, together we can make Oregon the next State to do enforcement before we are flooded even more by Illegals/"needy criminals".

Pay for Jails? Do what AZ. and others do, Join up with 287G ICE Program, this has saved AZ, Millions already...
Police Bust Illegal, actually trained to know the difference and read ID presented, Hold Illegal, FEDS actually help pay for short hold and then take Illegal AWAY!!!
Over 5,000 deported so far! No more Illegal Alien repeat offender(D.O.J. says 70% are) and the rest know IF they get caught, they will not be let go by local Police, BUT HELD, unlike Oregon.

Jails less full, Illegals flee and FEDS help pay thanks to local cooperation (unlike Oregon).

Can't wait for next Elections-Democrats should be looking for a real job by now, they will need it.

I am exempt from the rule of law, and I thank Daniel Miglavs for his support!

Actually, if you paid attention to the news -- and I realize that ideological considerations constrain your field of vision to a space barely wide enough for a flea to navigate -- you might notice that on occasion, the ACLU is on your side. Rush Limbaugh comes to mind.

Yeah, that illegal hit and run driver only got nabbed because he came back to the US to get more farm work. Another one of Bush's, Potter's, Chertoff's, Elder's, lawful guest workers.

I have actually been following this story of Kimberly Powell since last summer. I knew it was an illegal after they found the vehicle in Yakima near a orchard. I figured it had to be a "migrant worker".

The new grape harvester is an example of a trend that has been ongoing for many years. The history of agriculture is largely the history of mechanization of harvest. The hay baler and the cotton picker were only invented in the last century, for example.

Republicans are Pedophiles:

I would think that as a liberal, you would condone this type of behavior, or at the very least..treat it as an illness and order all offenders into rehab.

By the way, any braindead douchbag with a computer and internet access can do a little biased research and come up with some heinous crimes perpetrated by any particular group.

I could research serial killers and thier voter registration cards and select out all of the democrats for publication. By your logic, Democrats are therefore serial killers.

Neat trick.

I could to it with any group and crime.....so what.

Evidently Conservatives and the Republican Party does, so why not. The fact that Conservative Christians, usually members of the Republican party, as a demographic commit a large amount of sexual crimes on children is disturbing. It must have something to do with their interpretation of bible and their own mental illness. 'Tis sad really as they hail themselves as being the protectors of the family--quite the contrary--they are destroyers of children. Just ask Lou Beres, head of the Christian Coalition of Oregon.

No Republican, I mean NO REPUBLICAN or conservative for that matter has EVER uttered a word against his Bere's pedophilia on children in his family. That speaks volumes about conservativism and the conservative movement as a whole. Not a surprise though, this is the same group of people that support Druggy Limbaugh and Daniel "18th Street Gangbanger" Miglavs, who by the way sold meth to your children.

Dr. Bob:

After reading your baseless diatribe, I'm wondering if you should spell your name with two "O's" instead of just one.

Where do you get your statistics and information from? Are you guessing? Making shit up as you go along? I mean...look at the following statement:

"No Republican, I mean NO REPUBLICAN or conservative for that matter has EVER uttered a word against his Bere's pedophilia on children in his family."

How do you know that no Republican has ever spoken out against this guy? Has anyone spoken out against this guy? If so, how do you know which political party they are affiliated with? Has a Democrat or Liberal ever spoken out against this guy? You have no idea, because you haven't the brains to do the research, and in some cases, there is simply no way to tell short of asking the person.

Do some research BEFORE posting. It will save you a lot of embarassment and you will only come accross as a partial moron, not a total one.

I swear, some people are simply not smart enough to be allowed internet access.

Well Tony De Lugi, as a conservative you are, you certainly didn't speak out against your pedophile buddy lou beres. You wrote several paragraphs and didn't "utter" a single word against him. Seems Doc Bob hit the nail on the head.

Hypocrisy does not mean saying one thing and doing the opposite. It means saying something that one does not believe. Let's take the example of getting drunk (e.g., Al Gore and global warming.) Let's say that I believe that getting drunk is immoral. Does it make me a hypocrite if I get drunk? No, it makes me weak. I could believe that it is immoral but still not be able to resist the temptation to get drunk. It doesn't make my belief any less true or my actions any worse.

We saw the mainstream media's reaction to Rush Limbaugh's addiction to pain killers and Bill Bennett's gambling problem. These men were not hypocrites. I guarantee you that neither of these men wished for their own problems, and, after having gone through what they did, they most likely feel even more strongly about them than they did before. Again, weakness, not hypocrisy.

BTW, I still don't know what Bush or Cheney did that was illegal. It may have been "illegal" according to some stupid international organization but we conservatives believe most of all in souvernity and couldn't care less what France or Belgium or UN say. Yes, I do understand that international treaties are important and legally binding. I just don't think I would listen to anybody's definition of torture who opposes the death penalty.

Amish Abe;

I didn't speak out against the guy, because I haven't adequately researched him. I don't know what crimes (if any) the guy has been accused / convicted. If he's a dirtbag pedophile, he deserves to rot with the rest of the cho-mo's.

You're typical of the accusatory liberals who hover over this site waiting to give the "I told you so" to any of the posters with whom you dis-agree.

You call Lou Berbes my "Pedophile Buddy" as if all Republicans are members of the Christian Coalition of Oregon. I could be a Muslim for all you know, or Mennonite, a Jew, or maybe Russian Orthodox. You haven't any idea....and that's my point. You and the other liberals who post here do an awful lot of assuming based on the posts that I've read.

When I formulate an opinion on this guy, it will be an educated and informed one, not an opinion based on a kneejerk reaction.

By the way.....as far as I can tell from your posts, niether you nor Dr. Bob has spoken out against this Berb guy either. Does that make you his pal as well?

P.S. Can't you douche-nozzles come up with something better than "Delugi"??

Funny when a Republican/Conservative makes an error of character, fellow conservatives are oh so cautious to make a judgement, but when a Democrat/Liberal makes one, they pounce like the shit bird vultures they are. Go soak your head Mr. Delucca, we aren't buying any of it.

The idea that Republicans don't criticize their own is about as inane as it gets. Half of this blog is devoted to criticizing George Bush or Gordon Smith.

When the Dems drummed up some silly emails between a Republican Congressman and an underage staffer to get some juice for the last election, this blog and every Republican was all over him until he resigned.

How about Tom DeLay? He was drummed out by Republicans as well.

When William Jefferson is caught with $90k in cash bribe money in his office though, Dems rush to his defense.

What much of the left here despises is that most, not all, don't like to believe every wacko charge the left makes here.

I constantly call the left on some of their more ridiculous charges, they never support them and always go straight to name calling. The last guy was outraged that I didn't believe him on the ridiculous notion that the former secretary of defense was about to be tried by the Supreme Court for ordering child rapes. Absurd, to be sure, but in the end he couldn't support his point. So pardon us if we want to do a little research first.

Anon 1:49:

You're absolutely correct (and making my point for me as well).

I'm absolutely cautious about making accusations against anyone until I do the research. You are however wrong on one point, I'm cautious to accuse regardless of political affiliation of the target subject. Don't lump all Conservatives / Republicans into the same category. By the way, not ALL conservatives are Republican. I know quite a few Conservative Democrats. A HUGE number of Conservatives are registered Independents, not Republicans. I know this because I DO MY RESEARCH, and I evaluate the validity of the places I'm doing my research.

At the very least, you used a creative word (though not very original) to lob at me like "Shit-Bird" rather than the old standby "Delugi".

BTW, I still don't know what Bush or Cheney did that was illegal.

I've never understood that either. It's on a long list of things that bugs me. Like: How does water get into the sky for rain? I mean, I understand how it gets down here, because of gravity and all that, but how does it get back UP? Does it just sort of jump? Is there anyplace you can go to watch that?
