It troubles 17-year-old Mara Bauermeister that undocumented immigrant students enrolled in Rogue Valley schools who master English and earn good grades find out after graduation there are few options for higher education.
It also troubles me that illegal aliens can't go to college to get the jobs that they can't legally do.
South Medford students junior Liduvina Garcia, sophomore Elizabeth Garcia and sophomore Elizabeth Valazco told Bauermeister they wanted a way to fight discrimination on the campus and to portray a better image of Latino students.
They felt the public perception of Hispanic students had been further tarnished by a drive-by shooting Feb. 18 involving Latino gangs near the South Medford campus. No one was injured.
Perhaps with a little in-state tuition the gangbangers would stop shooting each other...
A year as an exchange student in Chile sparked Bauermeister's interest in immigration.
Her host family, who had been undocumented workers in the United States, recounted the struggles it faced.
"The family was worried to go to the police if something happened because they were worried about getting deported, and they couldn't get any medical benefits," Bauermeister recalled. "I was surprised that happens in the U.S."
I too am suprised that people who break our laws can't always seem to find taxpayer funded freebies... they must not have been living in Oregon.
Does anyone actually feel sorry for these people? You made your bed, now lie in it. I'm waiting for the sob story from the car thief who gets pulled over and cries to the media that since "their" car was taken they have no transportation to work. And then they can't feed their children. It's all about the children.

Barack Obama set his sights on November's general election Saturday as he campaigned in Oregon, where he hopes to declare victory in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Pitching his message to Oregon's environmentally-conscious voters, Obama called on the United States to "lead by example" on global warming...
"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.
"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.
We can't eat as much as we want? Is Obama planning on nationalizing food distribution? He'll stay out of the bedroom... unless it's to regulate the temperature of it?
It's not about the planet, it's about growing goverment, controlling the population and making us more like third world countries.

Pro illegal group fears plot by OFIR on this blog
In what I can only describe as something that really really makes me laugh the illegal alien loving (yes, they kiss illegal aliens with open mouth) group CAUSA is upset because I put a tidbit of Rick's opinion on being a Republican PCP on my endorsements post.
It certainly appears that Mr. Hickey and OFIR leadership are plotting a take over of the Republican Party of Oregon (ORGOP).
Thank you CAUSA, I needed that laugh. I imagine their next post could also have scary news like "Republicans try takeover of country by... voting Republican."
I also notice that they screenshot my blog but don't link to the post. My money says they get more readers when I link to them than they do any other time.

Daniel's primary endorsements
This is just me going down my ballot to indicate how my wife and I are voting. The sad state of the Oregon Republican party is so evident because I'm not actually voting for any Republicans, none of them excite me, I'm voting against their more liberal Republican counterparts.
President: Ron Paul - I'm not voting for McCamnesty.
Senator: Gordon Leitch - Able to speak for a long time about "gold coins" but I'm looking to vote against Smith for his amnesty vote. I mean hey, you can't wire gold coins to Mexico...
Congressional District 1: Claude Chappell - The other guy, Haugen, believes in global warming, amnesty (or as he calls it "family reunification") and a draft. Oh, and he endorses Obama.
Judge 20th district: Andy Erwin - I actually like this guy, he wants to punish criminals. Imagine that. But his "for" vote is nonpartisan.
I'm also voting YES on 51, 52, and 53.
Some of you in the Portland area probably have a blank spot for your Republican candidates. Way to go Vance. Maybe if you spent less time trying to sell us McCain you could field some decent candidates that would make conservatives proud to be Republicans.

This is our only opportunity at enforcing immigration laws here in Oregon for now. We should let the entire state know that republicans do support the rule of law and therefore motivate the larger majority of voters that agree with this. Party leaders should not be afraid to support the 9 out of 10 employers that are not violating laws. Instead voter registrations and donations prove we have lost a majority support position and will continue to do so if we pander to corrupt employers only.
Please consider becoming a PCP now, while you have that ballot handy. If we cannot get help from the leadership here for now, as a PCP you can change that.

John McCain heads to the Pacific Northwest today to propose a climate-change plan, addressing an issue integral to his presidential bid in a region that could be crucial.
The Arizona senator, who often cites climate change as a policy difference with President Bush, plans to renew support for a "cap-and-trade" system that "sets clear limits on all greenhouse gases, while also allowing the sale of rights to excess emissions," according to excerpts of his speech released Sunday.
"The facts of global warming demand our urgent attention, especially in Washington," McCain says in the prepared remarks.
This is not about the climate, this is about control. Once this is successfuly implemented for industry theses nutjobs will move it to the individual. Your household will have a carbon limit.
Your thermostat, your dryer, your vehicles, your food, your recreation, will all be subject to governments oversight.
Get ready for cold showers, hanging your laundry, hot summers, cold winters and add an extra 180% to your commute time because you are going to be taking the bus.

The new Dignity Village website is just great. Homelessness in 2008 is high tech. I bet they have wi-fi.

The Mexicans demand
It's fitting that on Cinco De Mayo, which translated means "the day of Corona sales," I got the DVD with pictures from the Salem May Day rally put on by the illegal alien supporters. Hat Tip Kirk for the photos.
I know you good liberals hate it when folks "drape themselves in the flag" so I guess there is an exception for flags that depict a chicken and worm fighting...
PCUN provides kids for "security" purposes. They mostly tell their subjects not to talk to OFIR folks. If you click to enlarge that photo you will see the sign back there says "thank an illegal alien for your" and the bottom part can't be seen. I'm pretty sure it says "meth" or "your daughter being raped."
And you can't have a rally that supports criminals without using kids as political props.
And don't let the Rio Grande hit you on your way out.

Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., are both flogging the idea on the campaign trail, saying they want to provide some relief to hard-press consumers by removing the 18.4-cent federal gas tax over the summer driving season.
"The good news is it won't happen," [Earl Blumenauer] told me over the phone today. "I think it's a non-starter in terms of it being enacted."
The big hangup in Congress is that no one wants to give up the $3 billion a month the gas tax brings into the highway trust fund, he said. The fund is already going into the red, he said, and members are besieged with demands for more projects than they can approve already.
So it's a situation of "we'd like to lower taxes but we don't want to give up the money..." Lowering taxes is the one way that I actually would like to see government get involved with the price of gas. Alas, we will keep paying that extra 18 cents a gallon because somewhere there is a bike path or trolley that needs to be built.

Immigration protest draws 2,500 to Salem
Carrying signs reading "Driving is a right, not a crime," a mostly Hispanic crowd of about 2,500 on Thursday protested a new driver's license law they say punishes immigrants and they also called for major changes in federal immigration and workplace laws.
Speakers demanded rollback of a decree codified by the Legislature in February - Senate Bill 1080 - that requires applicants for driver's licenses to prove legal residence in the country.

I believe in keeping guns out of our inner cities, and that our leaders must say so in the face of the gun manfuacturer's lobby. But I also believe that when a gangbanger shoots indiscriminately into a crowd because he feels someone disrespected him, we have a problem of morality. Not only do we need to punish that man for his crime, but we need to acknowledge that there's a hole in his heart, one that government programs alone may not be able to repair.

We have another "government programs alone" might not be able to solve the problem quote related to Obama. But as we can see by his voting record Obama is all about banning handguns and not punishing that poor criminal with a hole in his heart.
I believe in keeping guns out of our inner cities, and that our leaders must say so in the face of the gun manfuacturer's lobby. But I also believe that when a gangbanger shoots indiscriminately into a crowd because he feels someone disrespected him, we have a problem of morality. Not only do we need to punish that man for his crime, but we need to acknowledge that there's a hole in his heart, one that government programs alone may not be able to repair.

The good anarchists protested the ICE detention center in Tacoma. Here is one account from a kook liberal:
1:00: The police have barricaded the Wells Fargo building and a disaster response team is present at the detention center. They are terrified of our collective voice.

2:00: The march has reached downtown, but will not be traveling to the detention center. It is currently on it's way back to Peoples Park. Riot police have assembled outside the Wells Fargo building. One marcher has been struck with a bike by a police officer. They are using force to coral the march onto the sidewalk.
Police are using force to make people follow the law and not obstruct traffic? Where is the ACLU?
2:56: A second arrest has been confirmed. The cause and identity are unknown but the arrestee is reported to be a high school student. The police are using "body slam" arrest techniques. One woman has apparently been slammed to the ground and drug by the hair apparently for playing a drum. The police are singling out individuals for arrest seemingly without cause. The arrests are reportedly unprovoked.
Words like "apparently" and "reportedly" mean "lies told by anarchists who are high on marijuana."

No matter how many times they say "it's for the children" keep in mind that a yes vote on a tax increase or bond measure just puts more money in the pot for this nonsense.

However, González was not released from the county jail Tuesday because he still faces a hearing on his immigration status with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
González, who emigrated from Jalisco, Mexico, more than 15 years ago, has been living here on a religious visa that expired in 2005.
It must have been a real nail-biter in the mainstream newsrooms: on one hand this was an opportunity to bash Catholics but at the same time the perp was an illegal alien.

Wait, I'm supposed to raise my children?
Today, in a political ad, Barbara Roberts informed me that Barrack Obama knows that when it comes to raising my children "government can't do it alone." Needless to say, this was quite a shock to me.
What is it that government expects? That I will teach my children right from wrong? That I will try to impart a value system upon them? That they will learn some life skills from me? Thankfully, at least according to the commercial, I only need to give my children a "thirst to learn."
The actual learning will come from government indoctrination camps where transgenered folks are diversity, guns are bad, America is destroying the whole planet and your daily meals come from the taxpayers.
Vote Obama... because you are too stupid to plan your own retirement, too stupid to get your own health insurance and too stupid to run your own life.

1. Cancel your newspaper subscription. Imagine how much garbage that paper waste creates.
2. Stop weeding your organic gardens. Removal of CO2 absorbing plants strictly for cosmetic reasons shows your selfishness.
3. Stop smoking pot. The CO2 emitted by your smoke combined with the destruction of CO2 absorbing plants is killing the planet in addition to your brain cells. You selfish pigs for killing the earth to get high.
4. Stop letting illegal aliens come across the border:
This is what they do on the way here.
5. Stop using "This vehicle powered by Biodiesel" bumper stickers to show the rest of us how superior you are. The paper used for those is destroying trees. Not as many trees as the ones they mow down to make fields to plant corn for biodiesel but still a lot of trees.

Minority people deal with the well intentioned ignorance of others everyday. How can we, as educators promote an inclusive environment for our students and others that provides for mutual respect.
With important forums such as How to be an Ally (Hint: "ally" is code for "thinks it's perfectly normal for a third grade teacher named Sam to cut off his penis, grow breats and ask his students to start calling him Samantha") and discussions on the institutionalization of the nuclear family. (Hint: normal family = bad)

Another "Oregon only"
Environmental Management System
Oregon state government's Fleet Administration (Fleet) has implemented an Environmental Management System (EMS) as part of its policy to promote sustainability in all facets of the Fleet program.
Fleet is recognized as one of the nation's only government fleets to obtain this standard.
This is their brand new policy which reads like a third grader tried to copy the Declaration of Independence and make it about Earth Day. Setting high standards is a great thing but in the private sector a cost/benefit analysis would be done to see if meeting this standard is worth it. Government can say "let's buy 1,000 new Prius's with the taxpayers money" and it just happens.
Chicken Little has access to our pocketbooks.

It's so nice to see that Woodburn is participating in registration drives/voter turnout events that are strictly aimed at one racial demographic. Having their name up their with the racial supremacy group MEChA and every amnesty/open borders coalition in Oregon should be a real source of pride to Woodburn taxpayers.

The investigation led to the arrests of 41 people — including five in Woodland and three in Long Beach — and seizures of 89 pounds of meth, 50 firearms and $255,000 in cash.
But in the past, anytime members of the family were arrested — or suspected an arrest was imminent — they’d return to Mexico for long stretches of time. In the interim, other family members stepped in.
It's that whole "family values don't stop at the Rio Grande" thing.
The organization controlled the distribution of meth along the Interstate 5 corridor, bringing 200 pounds a month up from superlabs in Mexico, court documents said. About half the meth stayed in Washington, and the rest was shipped to the Midwest and East Coast, authorities said.
[Epifanio Barragan] has been ordered detained in federal custody for the duration of his case “based on immigration status,” according to court documents that don’t elaborate.
A few blocks away at 733 Second St., Maria Jesus Barragan Estrada, 35, admitted to agents she came to America illegally about 12 years ago, according to a probable cause statement.
Agents found a permanent resident card in her name and two Social Security cards. A federal agent checked and found no record of a resident card issued in her name, the statement said.
And the list goes on and on. These are the people that McCain, Clinton and Obama want to give amnesty to. Don't let them fool you about "background checks" and "the ones who aren't breaking the law" (which is laughable on it's face) because these are people who have no background and simply haven't been caught yet.

Officers found bloody dead and dying roosters when they responded to a report of possible cockfighting in Centralia over the weekend.
The man, who said he was a married father of four children, appeared surprised when the Centralia police officer informed him such activity was illegal, according to court documents filed on Monday.
Police Sgt. Kurt Reichert on Monday noted an influx of residents from Latin American countries where cockfights are acceptable.
On Monday, in Lewis County Superior Court, Magallanes told a judge through a Spanish interpreter he earns “very little” from his job and his wife does not work.
I was at the Wal-Mart in Little Mexico (Woodburn, they call it that) the other day and a guy was actually wearing a cock-fighting hat. If our hardworking friends from the south aren't careful they are going to lose their football careers over this wonderfully cultural bit of animal cruelty.

The city is one of few places in Oregon where the white population is the minority, and the community has dealt with rapidly changing demographics in recent years. At least one University researcher hopes to learn something from the unique situation.
I'm sure he'll ask questions about crime rate, employment rate, median income, percentage of people at the public trough...
Nelson said Woodburn is embracing its Mexican population and is sometimes called Oregon's "Little Mexico."
"The city seems to be embracing its Mexican identity openly and very deeply now," Nelson said.
The city is also home to many Mexican celebrations, Nelson said.
Note that they don't say "hispanic population" it's "Mexican population." In my household whites are in the minority but we celebrate the 4th of July, not the Day of the Dead. This is not a pregnant man. I know you good diversity folks aren't interested in these basic biology facts but men do not have:
a) Ovaries
b) Fallopian tubes
c) Uterus
d) Vagina
Without those reproductive organs you can't get pregnant and you can't give birth. No man has ever had those organs. The above pictured woman is simply a sideshow freak. A disturbed individual who is probably a danger to herself and others.
The people who give any credence to this being the "first pregnant man" are so blinded by their ideology that they have somehow been able to overcome, in their minds, the fact that boys are different than girls. This does not make you progressive, it makes you stupid.

Day labor protest 2008 - Part 5
So does anyone think that the single socialist who showed up to counter protest our event is representative of the public's view on this issue or any? And before you start the "Daniel's views don't represent blah blah blah" keep in mind that I don't care. I'm not there to represent anyone but myself.
What I do care about is results. The socialist wanted us to "go away." We didn't. We wanted to collect signatures for the Respect for Law Act and stop illegal aliens from getting picked up. We accomplished those things.
And I hope that I made these guys uncomfortable. You shouldn't be comfortable if you are doing something that you aren't supposed to.
And the racial superiority attitude that comes from some of these guys is astounding.
Wave the Mexican flag all you want, you voted with your feet on which country is better.

Ancient Chinese proverb: Give an illegal alien a sign and he will hold it, teach him how to read it and he won't look like a fool.
Let's dispell a couple of myths here:
"Daniel doesn't know these guys are illegal."
Takes care of that.
"The counter protestors outnumber us by x to x"

Day labor protest 2008 - Part 2
Scroll down for part 1. This day labor site is located at Centro Cultural, a taxpayer subsidized illegal alien center. We have had great success protesting here, we even forced them to take their "day labor pick up site" signs down.

As you will see in the videos, when I venture over to "their side" of the street I immediatly pick up many friends who like to block my camera with their signs.
You are probably wondering if any crack reporters for The Oregonian showed up? The answer is no... but that newspaper did have a presence!
Is this a box that distributes porn magazines?
No, it's just Cancha, The Oregonian's spanish language newspaper. Inside are exciting stories about soccer, Mexico and yes, plenty of lingerie pictures. It's a cultural thing.
Centro Cultural provides a woman to keep a list of illegal aliens so they can all take turns when working illegaly. The little boy with the attitude is the son of the lady who organizes the illegals.

Day Labor Protest 2008 - part 1
Oregonians for Immigration Reform and the Oregon chapter of the Minutemen protested today at an illegal alien day labor pick up site. Our goal was to keep illegal aliens from working illegaly and to collect signatures for the Respect For Law Act ballot initiative. The fact that illegal aliens decide to counter-protest us after we show up is just added fun.
I have almost a gigabyte of photos and videos as well as the stories behind them. I'll be rolling out photos and uploading videos over the next few posts. A sampling:

As if helping kids weren’t hard enough, Oregon foster parents may one day be forced to join the powerful public-sector unions. A bill in Washington State already has been introduced to treat foster parents like state employees.
Nationwide, union membership is at historic lows. Today 92 percent of workers in the private sector do not belong to a union. The one area where union influence is growing is the public sector. The reason is simple – government cannot be put out of business, so there are no market forces to limit union demands.
As if unions didn't display their hatred for children enough with the government school system, now they want to punish the orphans?
And how broad can this definition of "state employee" go? Someone receiving unemployment insurance gets a check from the state, should they be union members?
Government creep is a slow but steady process and us frogs seem too stupid to jump out of the water.

Oregon to issue voter ID?
Sorry to get you all excited by the title there. Yes, an Oregon company is going to issue secure ID for voting... for elections in Mexico!
"We are honored by Mexico's continued trust in our industry leading voter ID issuance solution," said Bob Eckel, president, ID Systems, Digimarc. "We look forward to enhancing the security of the Mexican voter ID in this new contract with innovations like Digimarc® IDMarc™ digital watermarking while continuing to provide a highly secure, centrally issued credential that Mexican citizens can use to establish their identity for a variety of daily needs."
Why doesn't this Beaverton-based company have a contract with Oregon? I mean, lot's of Mexico's citizens are here anyways...

1. You were too stupid to buy a mortgage you could afford and you need government to take care of it for you.

Today I heard that Vancouver passed a "helmet law" and instead of people worrying about government intrusion in our personal lives they worried about poor people not being able to afford helmets. (Rest assured tax dollars are being used to buy helmets for "the poor")
I got a letter from Senator Smith indicating that he and Wyden "secured" $1.4 million for the Scoggins Dam project. (That's Hagg lake) I'm sure many people got this brochure and we so thankful instead of realizing that it's Smith who should be appreciative for being able to use the taxpayers dollars and somehow take credit for their appropriation.

I'd rather be right than popular

Good idea John, from now on I'm going to teach my kids to do what's popular instead of doing the right thing. Breaking the law doesn't matter as long as a majority of a certain demographic, let's say the "cool kids" at your lunch table, say that it's ok.
These quotes demonstrate what so many politicians believe today: we are not a nation of laws, just political expediency. It starting with a "living constitution" but we have graduated to becoming fluid with our statutes. When government and it's officials decide that they can follow or ignore laws at their pleasure, and can be open about it, then we do not have a constitutional republic.

75% of Americans Say U.S. In Recession, According to CNN Poll
Are we in a recession? The politicians may say no, but Americans say yes. 74% of us say so, according to a CNN poll, a percentage any politician would lust for in an election. The numbers are pretty evenly divided three ways as far as whether it is a major, moderate or mild recession. Even 54% of Republicans agree with this assessment, less than the nearly 90% of the Democrats who concur, but still a significant number of people.
This has been irritating me for several days now because everywhere I go it seems that ignorant people have to make conversation about the "recession that we are in" and when "it is going to be over." It doesn't matter where you go, walk past a homeless camp and some bum will be making predictions on the "end of the recession" like he's a floor trader.
For the record: a recession is two consecutive quarters of declining GDP. We have not had that yet. We do not meet the defenition for "being in a recession." We may find out at the end of this quarter that we are but until then please stop talking like Ben Bernake sent you a text on your blackberry five minutes ago, you played golf with Warren Buffet yesterday and you're going to lunch with Henry Paulson.
You are not a finacial genuis, you can't even define recession and anyone who listens to your market predictions and isn't laughing in their head is dumber than you are.

Justices Agree on Right to Own Guns
Americans have a right to own guns, Supreme Court justices declared Tuesday in a historic and lively debate that could lead to the most significant interpretation of the Second Amendment since its ratification two centuries ago.
Governments have a right to regulate those firearms, a majority of justices seemed to agree. But there was less apparent agreement on the case they were arguing: whether Washington's ban on handguns goes too far.
This was not a ruling, the story is merely speculating based on statements/questions made during oral arguments.
You can't make any time, place or manner restrictions on abortion. They might as well be done in the proverbial back alley. A pregnant 13 year old girl, which is prima facie evidence of rape, can kill a baby with no questions asked and no interference from government.

Health care is the largest industry in Southern Oregon, so our hospitals' health matters to all of us, experts say. The simplest measure of financial well-being is whether you bring in more money than you pay out. On that score, Medford's two hospitals did OK in 2006 (the most recent year for which data is available), but Ashland Community Hospital paid out more for wages, supplies and equipment than it took in.
"As government-sponsored care reimbursement drops, it creates immediate and direct cost increases for commercial insurance," he said.
This "cost shift" represents about 15 percent of the cost of health insurance premiums. As premiums increase, some employers who are just hanging on tend to drop insurance coverage for their employees, sending more people into the ranks of the uninsured.
Thank you government. My premiums are subsidizing the plans that my taxes already pay for.
Standing in line for bread in the Soviet Union may get to be what we joke about while we are standing in line for our health care someday. Investors will not prop up a failing bussiness model but in this case the model may be sound but government comes in as says YOU MUST accept these prices. (anyone tried to negotiate paying a lower cost or going somewhere else to "buy" their drivers license?)

Save the SAVE Act
Thanks to the energetic work of Republicans and some sober-minded Democrats, the House may indeed get to vote on immigration reform legislation worthy of the name sometime soon. The bill is the SAVE Act (H.R. 4088), introduced by Rep. Heath Shuler, North Carolina Democrat, which aims to dramatically reduce the number of illegal aliens in the United States through stepped-up enforcement of U.S. immigration laws.
In the coming weeks, many rank-and-file Democrats will have to make a very difficult choice: carry water for Nancy Pelosi or respond to the legitimate concerns of their constituents.
Peter DeFazio is not on the list as far as I can tell. He is on our side on this one and we should encourage him to let congress vote on this.

Gates Repeats Request for More H-1B Visas
The U.S. is driving away the world's best engineers and computer scientists by putting limits on H-1B visas and other immigrant worker programs, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates told U.S. lawmakers Wednesday.
Gates repeated his past calls for more H-1B visas, the controversial program used by technology and other companies to hire foreign workers for up to six years.
And why are American workers not good enough for you Mr. Gates? Or is it that if you can increase the potential labor pool it will drive down wages across the board?
I mean, hey, why have any limits on H-1B visas at all? Anyone who wants in can come to work for Microsoft, Google, Sun Microsystems, etc. Social cost? Potential to radically change America? Who cares! Congress shouldn't worry about America, they need to worry about how much Microsoft is donating to their campaigns.

Unfortunately I can imagine a Hillary/Edwards ticket where the prez would prevent any company who might try to take this to market, which would cost an arm and a leg, from making any profit while Edwards would make sure that the company would get sued if one person somehow had an adverse reaction.
Our only hope is that Cuba, which has a wonderful health care system, will develope the drug.

Sam for mayor?
Not that Portland offers much in the way of candidates for conservatives but when Tommy Potter endorses Sho Dozono and then Sam Adams comes out to say that he would support the idea of requiring all bussinesses that contract with the city to make sure that all their employees are legal it looks like their may be a "lesser of two evils" candidate in the Rose City.
Of course, the idea is really the same as saying "the city won't contract with companies that use stolen equipment" but no-brainer or not this is Portland we are talking about. Thanks Lars.

Learn to habla
Ran across this video just now. I looked up the actual rules:
The number of Hispanic crews in the Northwest has increased markedly in recent years. A count of Spanish surnames on crew rosters suggests that about 85 percent of current contract firefighters are of Hispanic descent. This rough estimate doesn’t indicate how many crew members speak English.
There is no contract requirement that supervisors on contract crews speak any language other than English. There is a requirement that supervisors be able to communicate with the workers for whom they are responsible.
Consequently, if private companies elect to hire crew members who do not speak English, those supervisors must be bilingual or multilingual.
It does look like the forest service is paying attention to this issue and they indicate that no supervisors have been fired for not speaking Spanish.

Basic Rights Oregon (the gays like illegal aliens?)
University of Oregon Labor Education and Research Center

So who is VOZ? They are the helpful folks who put out a "How to be prepared for an immigration raid" pamphlet. They also brag that "No INS and police raids have occurred at the corner where day laborers wait for work since spring 1998 as a direct result of day laborer organizing and action."
The only people who have to worry so much about ICE are criminals. Legal immigrants don't hide from ICE, citizens don't hide from ICE, only criminal aliens need to worry.
Here is what I will do when the center opens up:

The state will start drawing names this week for the chance to enroll in a health care program designed for people not poor enough for Medicaid but too cash-strapped to buy their own insurance.
More than 80,000 people have signed up since registration for the lottery opened in January. Only a few thousand will be chosen for the program.
"This is such a wonderful opportunity," said Ellen Pinney, director of the Oregon Health Action Campaign. "We've heard absolutely no complaints, just a lot of hope that they are the ones who will be selected."

I don't even know where to begin

Artists and artist teams from the Portland metropolitan area are invited to submit qualifications for a collaborative transportation safety-based public art project with the Portland Office of Transportation - the Clinton Street Bike Boulevard Enhancement Project. The total project budget is approximately $70,000.

The struggle to gain these men's freedom is growing but it will require much more public support. In a manner similar to the campaign waged in 1971-1972 to free Angela Davis and the ongoing campaign to free Mumia Abu Jamal, this campaign must become widespread and international.
More higher education like this is clearly needed.

Two men allegedly delivering a quarter-pound of methamphetamine worth almost $12,000 to Redmond were arrested on the north side of town by drug agents who'd been watching for their car, officials said Monday. The pair remained in the Deschutes County jail, being held for federal immigration officials.
Armando Diaz Diaz, 35, of Metolius, and Jose Castor, 31, of the Madras area, were stopped around 6 p.m.
"Of the Madras area" huh. That's some crack reporting guys. We can only hope that these two got to the DMV before the deadline prevented them from getting their drivers licenses so that, as CAUSA would put it, "the safety of Oregonians" was first and foremost.

Oregon hunter education now available online
The classroom portion of Oregon’s hunter education course is now available online at http://www.hunter-ed.com/or/
“We are very excited to be offering online hunter education,” said Chris Willard, ODFW hunter education coordinator. “This will make hunter education much more accessible for those whose schedules make attending a conventional classroom course difficult.”
It seems that ODFW is becoming more responsive to it's customers. It was just this last season that they allowed us to take the Goose ID test online and now we have this. (I still recommend the "mentored youth program" for kids under 14 since it doesn't involve the state other than registration) The DMV should take note and start accepting debit cards, it's 2008.

There is a new computer game out... ICED. (acronym: I can end deportation)
"As an immigrant teen you are avoiding ICE officers..."
While I have not had a chance to download and play it yet the website alone is priceless. The police sirens noises in the background really add to the ambience. The game purports to be about "human rights" but people who have to avoid law enforcement as an objective are clearly doing something wrong.
Can we now assume democrat politicians will blame illegal immigration on video games?

Ususal suspects blamed
I heard the Illinois governor blame the usual suspects for the "gun free zone" shooting last week: video games and our "gun laws." (I think by "gun laws" he means "the bill of rights")
Millions of people play video games but no pattern exists to show they become phsychos. Gun free zone after gun free zone gets shot up but people can't take the hint.

For many of us wishing to support Briana in her trial, what we think of as "appropriate dress" for court is going to be a bit different than what her jury will think of as normal.
Are you sure? Having enough metal in your face to construct a fighter jet isn't normal?
IT IS ESSENTIAL, that if you want to support Briana, to show up in the most mainstream type of clothes you can find. Do NOT wear black. No Patches. Piercings other than earrings should be taken out. Guys: If your scruffy, now is a great time to shave...

OFF vs OFIR
While I distrust government as the next bunker-having gun nut (that's a term of affection by the way) I don't understand the Oregon Firearms Federation opposing proof of legal residency to get a drivers license.
A) You have to provide proof of legal residency to get a job; you have to have a job to buy firearms
B) Speaking of buying firearms, unless you buy private you also have to provide proof of legal residency
C) The number of people who choose not to have a SSN is so miniscule that I do not believe that it is a valid argument
D) You have always had to identify yourself to the state to get a drivers license, the extra step actually verifying that you are who you say you are does not constitute a "national ID" (something I oppose)
E) This requirement exists, in patchwork, in most states in America. This has not led to a "national ID"
