Dear Libertarians,
I know that some of you have an obsession with drug legalization, especially when it comes to marijuana. Some of you may be thinking of supporting the Oregon Canabis Tax Act ballot initiative. Don't.
Smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom is the libertarian creed. The OCTA violates two of those principles immediately and that's assuming that smoking pot is a "freedom."
From Oregon NORML:
"OCTA will raise money for the general fund..."
"...to sell cannabis, one must apply for an OLCCC license and one may only sell to the state liquor stores."
"The OCTA initiative does not designate a percent taxation on pot products, those numbers will fall to state regulation". (WWeek quote)
If there is a libertarian battle to be fought here it's to make the argument that the OLCC should be abolished, not to give them more authority to tax, regulate and sell products.

Daniel, question for you.
If I grow half a dozen marijuana plants in my backyard, strictly for my own personal use on my own property, and with regard to driving, I treat it the same as alcohol (in other words, I NEVER drive after using it), then please tell me:
How in God's green earth does this affect YOU? Please tell me exactly how it affects you. What do you care? What business is it of yours? How am I a threat to public safety and the greater social good? Why should the government spend BILLIONS of citizens' tax dollars to stop me from doing this?
I look forward to a considered and serious response from you.
Fuck the OLCC. I buy my booze in California anyway. That org can choke on a bowl of dicks for all I care.
While I agree that the OLCC should probably be abolished and marijuana relegalized, your comments are reminiscent of the comments left on this blog that say instead of challenging day labor sites locally, you should challenge the big businesses. Or that illegal immigration is a federal issue and nothing can be done at the local level. Sometimes you have to take small steps in order to accomplish your ultimate goal.
However, if this passed it would set up another situation where local laws are in conflict with federal laws much like the sanctuary cities, not ideal. Like most laws this should be a state issue.
I think that taking the profit out of drugs would go a long way in reducing illegal immigration, reducing crime and guaranteeing our freedoms.
Many current and former law enforcement personnel have a website that is well reasoned and rational that point out the futility and waste that is the "war on drugs". If you are interested go to the LEAP website.
What is the current status of the "Respect For Law" act?
To be in favor of drug legalization, Mr. Miglavs, does not mean that one is "obsessed" about it. Certainly, you are far more "obsessed" with "illegal aliens" than I've ever been about legalizing controlled substances.
Aside from the fact that he appears to have the maturity level of a sixth-grader, Miglavs' "musings" are the quintessence of idiotic banality and political reaction. He couldn't offer a "serious and considered" response to a question any more than a dog is capable of becoming a concert pianist.
Shut the fuck up^ you blathering idiot. Jesus Christ. You fucking left-wingers are too much. Just shut the fuck up already with your nonsense.
You guys aren't nearly as smart as you try to project yourselves to be. What you are projecting is that you are total fucking losers.
I do not understand the obsession that Miglavians have with "left-wingers." We have long since passed the point at which criticism of conservative Republicans came exclusively from "left-wingers." Libertarians, the subject of Daniel's ire, are certainly not left-wingers. Neither is the far-right Constitution Party, which opposes the war in Iraq. Barry Goldwater, the who spearheaded the resurgence of conservatism in the '60s, a REPUBLICAN, supported the legalization of marijuana. Those who have followed Daniel's musings also know that he is not immune from harsh criticisms from Republicans who oppose illegal immigration but find some of his other views, not to mention his infantile attitude, repugnant. I could sit here all morning producing examples like that.
I don't know if you are a "right-winger" or a "middle-winger," 11:29 p.m. But I know that you are an idiot. Who blathers about things you do not understand.
just think, had drugs (including meth) been legalized a few years back, daniel would only be a felon for being a gangbanger with a gun.
What is the current status of the
"REspect for Law" act?
Fuck you 7:41. I opposed us going into Iraq, but that doesn't mean that I support an immediate withdrawal either. You complain of those who paint an either/or scenario in life, but that is exactly what you do. Your way or the highway. Well fuck you, bra. Take the hershey highway, you phucking phaeg. lol
Oh, yeah! The phucking ideaot is bach. Phuckin' A. Phuck, phuck, phuck. Proving what we already know about Danyeal's phucking phans.
Funny how this fucking idiot can spell a whole lot better than you. So who's the fucking idiot now? Fuck you, asshole.
Wow...you both need to grow up.
Phuck U.
This is America, use English Anon 953. It's spelled f-u-c-k and
f-a-g. Okay?
Well, at least Anon 409 thinks your spelling is fine.
How in God's green earth does this affect YOU? Please tell me exactly how it affects you. What do you care? What business is it of yours? How am I a threat to public safety and the greater social good?
When you slam into my car and kill my sister or nearly take my life and put me thousands of dollars in debt from hospital bills, that affects me. Very simply put.
How does it affect me? It affects me through the actions that come when you smoke it.
Libertarians who are so hung up on drug culture really need to be shot in the head.
