How to Create a Transgender Friendly Work Place
As of January 1, 2008, it is against the law for all Oregon employers to discriminate against an employee based on sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

Gender expression describes how a person communicates the person’s gender identity to the world through behavior, clothes, haircut, etc.

This is what seperates the "gay" stuff from actual biological traits. This discrimination law protects behavior rather than something innate.

What do I do if one of my employees says he or she is going to transition into the opposite sex?

You can start by asking the employee what the person needs from you, the employer, in order to make the workplace transition as smooth as possible.

You, the employer, should ask what you can do for your employee when it's suggested that they want to mutilate their genitals. What would I suggest you do? Move to a state where you don't have to put up with this nonsense.

What about the bathroom issue?
An Oregon employer must allow a transgendered person to use whichever bathroom is consistent with the person’s expressed gender. So, if one of your male employees comes to you one day and says he is going to transition into a female (M to F), expect that at some point this employee will begin to use the female bathroom. The transgendered employee is the best judge of when it is time to switch bathrooms.

Again, it's simply time to move when your state government tells you that you must let the men use the women's bathroom at their request.

What if my other employees are uncomfortable with sharing a bathroom or a workplace with a transgendered employee?
Explain to your other employees that you comply with Oregon law regarding the rights and protections of transgendered individuals and you expect the same from them.

Translation: too bad. It's probably a good time to explain to your employees that you are moving your company to a free state where you are allowed to hire/fire employees at will.

State tax breaks for alternative energy will cost more than expected
So many businesses are getting tax subsidies under Oregon's effort to promote alternative energy that the state now estimates it will spend $167 million on them in 2009-11, up from $68 million it gave out in similar tax breaks in 2007-09.

The higher spending demonstrates the increasing popularity of Oregon's Business Energy Tax Credit. But it comes at time when other state programs face cutbacks, and that's giving some lawmakers heartburn.

"What this does is create a real dilemma," said Sen. Ginny Burdick, D-Portland. The state's two-year budget, approved last June, will now come up short by as much as $50 million.

I love how people describe with absolute incredulity the "success" of government programs that give tax dollars for goods/services in excess of what they are worth.

Whether it's giving someone $4,500 for a car that is worth $2,000 or paying someone to be "green" and save on their energy bill, government's success is always a loss for the taxpayers.

Work hard today, government needs to buy someone a new refrigerator.

Mexico decriminalizes small-scale drug possession
Mexico decriminalized small amounts of marijuana, cocaine and heroin on Friday—a move that prosecutors say makes sense even in the midst of the government's grueling battle against drug traffickers.

The new law sets out maximum "personal use" amounts for drugs, also including LSD and methamphetamine. People detained with those quantities no longer face criminal prosecution.

We can look forward to this culture continuing to make it's way north. This "makes sense" in the same way it makes sense to encourage your kids to do their chores by not punishing them when they watch tv instead of taking out the garbage.

If you are amazed at the "statistics" this program can boast about keep in mind that they will actually go to an apartment complex and advertise FREE FOOD FOR EVERYONE. How many "hungry" children are going to turn that down?

When governmet defines a "hungry child" as:

Anyone under the age of 18 who is willing to walk three steps out of his/her front door to accept free food we will have numbers that seem to show mass starvation in this country.

Please remember that the school districts that cry poor when it's time to vote down the tax increases are the same schools that think their role is no longer education but the free feeding of entire neighborhoods during summertime.

Derelict in their duty

Family of murdered teen sues county
The family of 15-year-old murder victim Dani Countryman is suing Clackamas County.

According to public records, the suit alleges authorities knew Countryman's killer was in the country illegally but failed to report him. Indeed, in November 2006 the person who plead guilty to Countryman's murder was convicted in Clackamas County of driving drunk.

This case reportedly prompted Clackamas County to define its policy on the handling of immigrant criminal cases. Two months after Countryman's death, Clackamas County authorities clarified county law giving police and prosecutors the ability to report non-documented individuals to immigration officials after they have been arrested on other charges.

When you have a culture of tolerance for criminal aliens you are going to end up with blood on your hands. If we can stop the tolerance for these lawbreakers we can save future lives.

Clackamas County didn't need a new law they just needed "clarification" meaning "let officers know that they can actually do their jobs" rather than try to "reach out to immigrant communities."

Let's make sure that all levels of government have this same clarification.

Me, Michael Vick and Irene

So notorious dogfighter Michael Vick has been picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles after serving almost two years in prison. The fans and various groups are fit to be tied.

We are talking about a game. You can watch or not watch, buy tickets or not buy tickets. But the grandstanding by groups who think this is armageddon is just too much.

I beg any reporter to ask the next PETA member they find whether or not they support minimum sentencing or the death penatly. Any local Vick haters vote yes on Measure 11? Or is it just dogfighting that bothers you?

Obviously I'm speaking as someone who made horrible choices in my past. My "second chance" is given by some and not by others and that's fine. At some point most people see me for who I am today and if you don't that's just fine.

With Michael Vick there is another thing that bothers me, is there more or less outrage over Dante Stallworth KILLING A HUMAN BEING and doing 30 days in jail? Are people going to cancel their season tickets when he plays again?

It seems to me that some people have their priorities very mixed up and put animals ahead of humans.

I support maximum punishment for people who do wrong. Giving a "second chance" without an initial consequence sends the wrong message. But once someone is ready to change it's trust but verify. I have no problem with someone having another chance to fly right if they are serious about it.

If Tony Dungy says that Vick is good enough then that's good enough for me and I'm willing to enjoy watching football without the circus. Go Colts. (even without Dungy)

Working hard or hardly working?

Currently there are 123 inmates with ICE holds at the Washington County Jail in Hillsboro. That is an amazing 21.50 % of the inmates in the jail!

If you consider the fact that the Pew Hispanic Research Center estimates that about 4 to 5 % of Oregon’s population consists of illegal aliens the number of inmates in the Washington County jail is 4 to 5 times what one should expect from their cohort!

The cost to Washington County for just incarceration alone is over $3 million annually. Washington County is just one of 35 Oregon counties.

One of the big lies that the pro-illegal alien lobby puts out is that illegal aliens do not commit crimes. With over 1200 inmates with ICE holds at the Oregon State penitentiary and 100’s more in Oregon county jails that lie should be put to bed.

I check on the Dignity Village website from time to time (America: the only country were the homeless have their own website) and am excited to report that we have a current August update:

"We have added 20 new raised garden beds, full of all kind of plants . We have had over 600, Students come out to the village since Jan.2009 from all over the Northwest.They helped build planter boxes, and painted a few buildings."

"We are also going to build new Bathrooms some time in Aug. 2009. They will be a combo of shower and toilets, plus a meeting room for guess that come out to visit and want talk, for a bit on bad weather days."

"We are also having a 2010 Dignity Village calender printed which many of you folks may have heard about in the last few months. They will be for sale Next month if all goes on track. Ask Joe ( the tour guide person ) for more info on getting one for your self."

I don't know about you but when bad weather comes about my first thought is: "I think I'll go sit and hang out with the taxpayer subsidized homeless." I mean, if they have a tour guide and a meeting room then I might as well avail myself of the service.

I can't wait for the calendar either, I'm assuming that it will include such wonderful dates like when the needle exchange wagon rolls around and the free lunch* programs offered through the public schools.

*There is no such thing as a free lunch. You paid for it. They eat it.

“We will, at long last, bring health care to every Oregon child,” Kulongoski said at a gathering of lobbyists, health care bureaucrats, politicians and even a young patient at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital on the campus of Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.

Through a combination of increased “provider taxes” on most Oregon hospitals and a new 1 percent tax on health insurance premiums, Oregon is adding 200,000 uninsured children and poor adults to the ranks of the insured.

So who can apply? Here is the application.

This is another instance of anchor babies getting welfare while the rest of us pick up the tab. Let's see if I can do the math: an illegal aliens can't legally have an income. With no income their dependents can qualify for welfare.

It's like asking a drug dealer to report his earnings, it just won't happen.

So our politicians say they will make health care "more affordable" by taxing health care providers and health insurance premiums. For those of you who went to one of the 71 Oregon public schools rated as inadequate this makes health care more expensive for those of us who pay for it.

But the anchor babies and their criminal alien parents have one more reason to come to Oregon.

2 Obama officials: No guarantee taxes won't go up
President Barack Obama's treasury secretary said Sunday he cannot rule out higher taxes to help tame an exploding budget deficit, and his chief economic adviser would not dismiss raising them on middle-class Americans as part of a health care overhaul.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and National Economic Council Director Larry Summers both sidestepped questions on Obama's intentions about taxes. Geithner said the White House was not ready to rule out a tax hike to lower the federal deficit; Summers said Obama's proposed health care overhaul needs funding from somewhere.

And keep in mind this is just income tax we are talking about. Obama can raise your tobacco tax, energy tax, gas tax, etc and the media won't report it as a "middle class tax" even thought it is.

The media will however glorify taxes on those greedy corporations... who promptly pass on the bill to us the consumer. We need to stop looking at the segmentation of taxation and instead look at the overall spending.

Politicians are constantly babbling about finding "another funding source" when there is only one source of revenue and that is the productive private sector.

Marijuana Hwy: not just a nickname

The Oregon chapter of the "National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws" (pot heads for short) have actually adopted a section of Hwy 26.

I got my notice that PGE is putting in my new "Smart meter" which will allow the company to DO ALL KINDS OF WONDERFUL THINGS oh and by the way regulate or just flat out shut off my power remotely.

It was then that I thought about the fact that the government owns GM. GM uses Onstar. Onstar is a program that can track and even SHUT OFF YOUR CAR REMOTELY.

Well what if to SAVE THE PLANET we needed to be told to only use our electricity and cars every other day of the week?

The stimulus is working

Oregon Arts Commission awards more than $300,000 to arts organizations
The Oregon Arts Commission has awarded arts stimulus grants totaling $306,700 to 16 Oregon arts organizations. The stimulus grants were funded in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (the stimulus) and provided to the Arts Commission by the National Endowment for the Arts.

These one-time grants will retain up to 19 jobs, providing critical aid not only to arts organizations but strengthening the Oregon economy as a whole.

I'm sure that all the laid off construction workers are pleased as heck that the Executive Director of the Oregon East Symphony gets to keep his job.

Maybe they could go enjoy the Lord Leebrick Theater company "which produces five plays each year in downtown Eugene" and got $22,500 of our tax dollars.

The really sick part is that the Oregon Arts Commission is actually PROUD of taking people's money at the point of a gun and spending it on the symphony.

New state law will allow farmers to grow hemp
Oregon is about to become the first Western state to permit its farmers to grow industrial hemp.
But there are a couple problems to be confronted before Oregon becomes a Hemptopia by the Pacific: It’s still an illegal crop, according to the federal government.

Local enthusiasm for hemp’s possibilities was also evident at a three-day Emerald Empire Hempfest, featuring music, speakers and other entertainment, that wrapped up Sunday at Eugene’s Washington-Jefferson Park.

Are these the same hippies who don't think we should cut down trees to build houses? Isn't it weird how they realize that you can indeed take a grown product, harvest it for use and then by replanting continue to have a supply.

If only these people would chain themselves to poor marijuana plants about to be harvested because by their logic if you keep cutting down the pot plants eventually you will run out completely.

Deportations from US on the rise
As President Barack Obama tries to rally support in the US Congress to revive comprehensive immigration reform this year, his government is removing the United States’ unauthorized population at a gathering pace.

ICE’s Flight Operations Unit, carrying out a policy begun under former President George W. Bush, has moved an average of 4,200 unauthorized migrants a week this year, up from 3,700 last year.

"I don’t think I’ll go back again, it’s’ too hard," said Alvarado, who had spent thousands of dollars trying to reach the US,and had been twice deported.

But Galicia, who had left his job, wife and a 21-month-old son back in Arizona, had other ideas.

"There’s no work" in Guatemala, he said. "As soon as I get there, I’ll be heading back."

Good luck felons, you get deported and come back and I don't see any amnesty in your future.

And I know that the crack reporters aren't really into asking "questions" of illegal aliens but when someone tells you they LEFT THEIR JOB in Guatemala and is going to break our laws again because "there is no work" in his country it leaves me wondering.

I guess the important thing is that he is abandoning his child.

Portland police arrest three in TriMet ticket forgery scheme
...during the past several months, thousands of phony tickets have been pushed into fare boxes and pulled from people's pockets on train and bus lines throughout the Portland metro area.

A months-long investigation resulted in its first arrests Tuesday evening as Portland police served search warrants on two cars and two homes, where police confiscated about 35,700 tickets with an estimated value of more than $109,000.

Officers arrested Jaime Caamal Balam, 27, of Northeast Portland; a man who identified himself as Gabriel Bedolla Medina, 30; and a woman identified as Maria Izquierdo, 23. They face counts of forgery, Silva said, among other charges being considered.

Based on fingerprint identification, police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents think the man who claimed to be Bedolla Medina is actually someone else -- a convicted felon who was deported and has re-entered the country illegally.

Think of the irony here. The Portland City Council has set up a day labor site where illegal aliens use phony ID’s, Stolen Social Security numbers and Matricular Consular cards to steal jobs from American citizens. No problem. Yet when illegal aliens use counterfeit TriMet passes they get arrested!

One would have to guess that to the City Council it is alright to cheat average citizens out of their jobs but don’t you dare cheat the government out of their money.

Welcome to Sherwood

David Wu hosted a town hall at the Sherwood Police station tonight. He did not have a supportive audience. But I have good news: he's not for amnesty... he's just for allowing people who came here illegaly to become citizens.

I was an early call-on to ask a question and when I began on the amnesty issue one of Wu's approximately four supporters starting screaming at me about how "I won't work in the fields." And I mean screaming.

It was the only time the Mayor had to step in to tell people they would be asked to leave if they were disruptive.

It was downhill from there: "Why didn't you read the cap and trade bill?" "We don't want government taking over health care." We are sick of your spending and sick of your taxes."

We can breathe easier

Late last night, the Oregon legislature adjourned "sine die." "Sine die" is Latin for "let's take a few months off and then come back and raise whatever taxes and fees we overlooked since January."

Those Latins were very efficient with language.

This session is over. In normal times, Oregonians would not have to fear for a greater loss of money and liberty until 2011, but the days of our bi-annual session seem to be almost certainly, just a happy memory. The legislators will be returning to the Capitol in February.

Oregon Senate puts illegal workers, bosses on notice
Lawmakers are set to crack down on businesses that hire illegal workers, don't pay taxes, or otherwise make it harder for law-abiding employers to compete.

The Senate, in a marathon afternoon session on Monday, approved House Bill 2815, which requires the departments of justice, revenue, employment, and other agencies to work together to track businesses that pay employees in cash.

Sen. Floyd Prozanski, D-Eugene, said that investment should bring in an estimated $7 million this biennium in increased income, unemployment, and workers' compensation taxes.

Getting between The State and "it's money" is like standing between a mother bear and it's cubs. At this point your protected class status evaporates as the voracious appetite of the legislature will throw anyone and everyone under the bus to get another nickel.

Hugo Chávez's coalition-building efforts suffered a setback yesterday when the Honduran military sent its president packing for abusing the nation's constitution.

It seems that President Mel Zelaya miscalculated when he tried to emulate the success of his good friend Hugo in reshaping the Honduran Constitution to his liking.

But Honduras is not out of the Venezuelan woods yet. Yesterday the Central American country was being pressured to restore the authoritarian Mr. Zelaya by the likes of Fidel Castro, Daniel Ortega, Hillary Clinton and, of course, Hugo himself.

I have been watching this story over the weekend with absolute incredulity at the reporting by the mainstream press and the response from Obama and Hillary.

It seems that wherever the enemies of liberty rear their ugly heads our American liberals will stand in support of them.

We can ignore the whole cap and tax vote going on today. The largest tax increase on the entire population of the United States just isn't as newsworthy as Michael Jackson.

Giving government the ability to control energy consumption, which all individuals and industry is involved with, isn't as important as Michael Jackson.

A sweeping change in American policy that is outside the constraints set up by our founding documents should not be discussed. Talk about Michael Jackson.

Obama Moves to Push Immigration Reform Back into the Spotlight
President Obama is trying to put immigration reform back on the front burner as he plans a meeting with advocacy groups and key lawmakers this month and pledges his commitment to a fair and practical solution.

A key argument for Republicans to get on board with immigration reform is the Hispanic vote. Former President George Bush was competitive with John Kerry in 2004, but Latino voters supported Barack Obama by a wide margin over John McCain in 2008.

Remember when the key argument was "is this the right thing for America?" Now it's "can this demographic keep me in power?"

Poll question: Do you want something done about the 12 million (ha!) illegal aliens in this country?

If you said yes they probably put you in the "support amnesty" results.

But logic says that if amnesty really was supported by a majority of Americans we would already have seen it pass since the politicians all want it. The only thing that holds them back is fear of the voters. We stopped it before and we will stop it again.

A different sort of immigration rally is happenined on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol Tuesday morning.

It's organized by a Portland lawyer and a cohort of unlucky widows and in-laws. They're chipping away as what has come to be known as the “widow penalty.”

Who can resist a love story? This one begins in a club near a U.S. Army post in Korea. Rosalie Scrabeck had just started working there as a bartender and hostess when a certain soldier caught her eye.

She's describing infantry Sgt. Derek Scrabeck. He hailed from the small Willamette Valley town of Dallas, Oregon. Rosalie is a citizen of the Philippines. Soon they were dating.

To make a long story short, they were married at the American Embassy in Seoul, South Korea. The couple moved to Oregon in December 2007.

The U.S. requires a two-year waiting period before an immigrant spouse can receive permanent residency. That's to weed out sham marriages.

In this case, tragedy struck 20 months into the marriage. Derek drowned when the small fishing boat he was riding in capsized along the Oregon Coast.

The Filipina discovered she was deportable because she's technically no longer married to an American.

It must be incredibly frustraing for the "60 to 70 other such cases in the western U.S." to be told they can be deported this way while watching people who broke the law from the begining being treated like victims.

I've heard of other stories where a legal immigrant makes a mistake on a document and is subsequently deported.

The difference here is intent. Rosalie did not come here illegaly, she intended to make America her home with her American soldier husband. She is an immigrant that we welcome and in this case she is the victim.

Rosalie is not currently breaking our laws by working illegaly and the law should be changed to allow her a green card as she is a true immigrant to the United States, not some greedy lawbreaker who doesn't consider this his or her true home.

We've gone from bitter to angry

A tide of anger on immigration
They are angry. Angry at their government. Angry with the news media. Mostly, angry at illegal immigrants and the problems they believe are caused by people who live in Oregon without proper documentation. Some are even angry at what they perceive to be too-high levels of legal immigration.

Their e-mails, calls and online comments seem to skyrocket every time The Oregonian publishes a story that mentions "Hispanic," "Latino," "Mexican" or "immigrant," regardless of whether the subject's citizenship, legal status or national origin is mentioned or relevant.

One recent story about a legislative proposal to offer in-state tuition rates to undocumented Oregon high school seniors triggered 142 online comments and dozens of e-mails, phone calls and letters to the editor.

You angry ignorant rednecks. Frankly I'm amazed that you immigrant hating backwards hillbillies can even work a computer to leave these online comments.

Rest assured that the "expert" in this piece also identifies us as "fringe" because I guess nothing says "out of the mainstream" like an overwhelming response any time this issue comes up.

Who do they say works here?

Willamette Tree Wholesale Nursery in Oregon Sued for Sexual Harassment, Retaliation
Willamette Tree Wholesale, a nursery in Molalla, Oregon has been sued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for violating federal law.

According to the federal agency's investigation, one worker, a 38-year-old Latina, was taken to remote areas of the farm by the company foreman and raped repeatedly over several months.

Another Latina co-worker, age 35, faced daily sexual innuendos and propositions for sex as well as grabbing and touching.

EEOC Regional Attorney William R. Tamayo said, "From California, where the fields were called 'field de calzon' (or 'field of panties') because so many supervisors raped women there, to Florida, where female farm workers call them 'The Green Motel,' and throughout the country, we have found women working in agriculture are often particularly vulnerable to sexual harassment.

No wonder Americans don't want to work there, they don't want to rape or be raped!

But let's stop and all act shocked that employers who will willfully look the other way when it comes to labor laws, ID laws and employment laws will then ignore the Equal Employment Opportunity laws.

It's also very puzzling that employees who break our immigration laws, labor laws, ID laws and tax laws also have a tendency not to respect other laws once they are in the workplace.

The nursery lobby and our lawmakers will all say that these workers are illegal aliens... how come this news report won't look into the matter?

Why don't we enforce ALL our laws to ensure a safe workplace for everyone.

Oregon community's 5-year muni-fiber plan struggling
Sherwood, Ore., a small city southwest of Portland with about 16,000 residents, is knee-deep in cost overruns and service shortfalls after five years of trying to launch its own fiber-optic network. The city promised residents the service would give every home and business high-speed Internet access, and that the service would pay for itself and even create a revenue stream for the city.

In Sherwood, to date, taxpayers have laid out more than $1.55 million for a service that is anything but complete. One official called the 60-mile network a "significant money loser."

I have Verizon FIOS (excellent service by the way) and not a week goes by that Comcast and Qwest don't contact me in some way to see if I would like to switch to their fiber-optic service.

But for some reason government thought it should do what the private market was already doing so well and these idiots will insist until the day the stupid thing gets shut down that it will "soon" be viable.

But the fact that it can't make money is not the issue, if they were hauling in cash hand over fist I would still oppose this because IT'S NOT THE CITIES JOB TO PROVIDE INTERNET ACCESS.

Oregon Democrat Hass derails tax-increase bill
Plans to raise taxes on Oregon corporations and upper-income earners, which seemed to have all the momentum of a moving freight train, crashed in dramatic fashion late Wednesday when Senate Democrats failed to muster enough votes from their own caucus.

The derailment tore a $733 million hole in a tenuously balanced state budget and sent legislative leaders scrambling to find a compromise that would let them adjourn as planned by the end of the month.

"I implore you," Bates repeated three times, looking directly at his longtime colleague. "The state will go into chaos without these bills."

That's $733 million that private citizens get to spend as they see fit. It's a good day for Oregonians. The sick thing about politicians is that some truly believe that without them and their precious programs the state would really go into chaos when in fact most of us just want to provide for our families and don't enjoy the limited interaction with government that we are forced to have.

Imagine a world without public art, needle exchange programs and diversity administrators.

Prisons are for prisoners

To pay for prisons, Oregon might release some prisoners
Faced with a $78 million hole in the state public safety budget, lawmakers are proposing to save money by delaying a voter-approved measure requiring longer sentences for property thieves. Also, they want to release prisoners early for good behavior and ease penalties for people caught with small amounts of drugs.

Lawmakers have spent months negotiating how Oregon might hold down prison costs while honoring the intent of voters who last year endorsed Measure 57, which slapped tougher sentences on property and drug crimes.

I'm positive that in the months of negotiations they discussed firing the Department of Corrections Cultural Awareness and Diversity administrator Carolyn Schnoor until they realized that the threat to public safety was just too great.

I can't explain what the specific threat might be because she is the only administrator on the org chart that doesn't have defined duties.

I'm also positive that since our lawmakers were sooo thorough that they did consider turning off the cable tv or taking away the prison recreational activities like:

Aerobics
Yoga
Stationary bicycles
Bingo
Karaoke
Numerous board games and other indoor activities (cards, chess, etc.)
Current-run movies are shown nightly

And I'm so glad that our crack reporters at the Fishwrapper can't bother to question these things but just blindly accept the fact that our legislators want to ignore the will of the voters and spit in the face of public safety.

Hispanic DOES NOT EQUAL illegal

The growing Hispanic community on Oregon's north coast and the well-entrenched Anglos are getting pointers in cultural differences intended to help each understand the other better.

For example In Mexico, many arrive late for a doctor's appointment, firm in the knowledge that they would just have to wait if they didn't.

That doesn't work here.

"It's just not knowing these little cultural things," said Norma Hernandez of the Lower Columbia Hispanic Council.

Before I go on with the news article let's look at who the Lower Columbia Hispanic Council is:

Foundation Type - Organization which receives a substantial part of its support from a governmental unit or the general public

So moving forward we are now aware that this racist group is gets most of their money from the taxpayers whether directly from government or through tax deductability.

It operates programs providing cheap car loans, migrant programs, immigration attorneys and contact with the Mexican Consulate.

Stop again. Loans are supposed to be given without consideration of race, nationality or country of origin. This group redlines everyone but hispanics.

The community lives frugally, she said, with many fearing deportation and the subsequent loss of their savings.

This is another article that treats all hispanics like they are illegal aliens. It is insulting to lump my wife into the same "community" as criminal aliens. The "hispanic council" is really the "illegal alien" council as they could care less about American citizens who obviously don't need contact with the Mexican consulate or fear deportation. I spilled my drink... quick, send someone from the state

NOTE: I am not actually typing this post because the government has determined that I could get carpal tunnel syndrome. Therefore a state worker is taking dictation.

Tonights wind knocked down a neighbors tree and it ended up laying across our residential street. Several of the menfolk went over to remove it when city workers pulled up and said that they would take care of it.

I imagine that folks in New Oreleans were so accustomed to this phenomenon that when daddy government wasn't there for five minutes to hold their hands it put them in a state of shock.

What ever happened to people helping each other out, taking care of each other and their neighborhood?

When the sheeple learn to be dependent of government they make themselves slaves. I'm almost looking forward to the apocalypic scenarios when the stores have no food, there is no electricy or running water and bartering replaces our paper currency. There won't be three city trucks and four workers coming to clear the brush out of your way then.

Popular Sauvie Island event site could be in jeopardy
In recent years, Kruger’s Farm on Sauvie Island has hosted many popular cyclocross and mountain bike events.

But now those events are in jeopardy as Kruger’s Farm faces a permitting hurdle with Multnomah County’s land use planning department. The County is making Kruger apply for a new permit (that would allow the events) after a complaint was filed by one of Kruger’s neighbors.

In the meantime, the County has forced him to suspend all public events (they call it a “voluntary compliance agreement”, but Kruger pointed out that it wasn’t voluntary at all).

He estimates that one-third of his net income is on the line. Kruger says the loss would mean he couldn’t “continue to make the farm a public gathering place.” “That’s the irony,” he added, “I’m doing what people want, but the codes sometimes just don’t keep up with it.”

I hunt Sauvie Island and there sure were a lot of "Yes on 49" signs up there. I'm going to have to assume that Mr. Kruger supports a bar owners right to allow customers to smoke, that he supports his neighbors right to build houses and supports a landowners right to harvest their timber.

If that's not the case then what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

I personally think that the county and Kruger's neighbor have no business telling him that he can't have people riding bikes on his property. But it's disturbing to me that until it comes down the the PC crowd complaining our "land use" policy is treated like it was written on stone tablets.

We'll just sell to ourselves!!!

This morning I heard a news anchor question whether or not people will buy Obama designed cars. My first thought: Multnomah county will. So will the state of Oregon. Add Portland and Salem to the list.

Government doesn't care if their fleet is overpriced, they will spend our money to buy vehicles that were produced with our money and all in the name of public service!

At first glimpse, Room 10A at Davis High School seems like any other classroom.

But a closer look reveals something else. Walls are draped with Mexican maps and tapestries.

Standing before about two dozen students, teacher Jorge Herrera jots algebraic equations on a large wall monitor as he gives instruction in Spanish.

Welcome to the school's CONEVyT portal, an online program developed by the Mexican government, adopted by the Yakima School District three years ago and now gaining converts across the state.

It's not clear just how many students are here illegally, and school districts are not legally required to ask, he said.

Classic Portland: wild food = no animals

Living on Foraged Wild Foods for a Solid Week in the City
Starting Sunday, May 24, I'll spend a week eating wild food that I forage from sidewalks, parks, wilderness areas and yards in the city of Portland, Oregon. There will be no dumpster diving or mooching off gardens; I will be eating wild edibles only.


Normally I see this stuff, laugh and then move on but this is so representative of Portland that I had to put it out there.

In the "everyone must sacrifice" world of the commune it is very impressive that this girl is willing to give up "dumpster diving" for a whole week. We should all try to live without those creature comforts in the name of saving the planet.

So I was in the ER this afternoon...

In honor of our new Supreme Court nominee I've been thinking that we should honor her policy of racism but apply it to more than just firefighters and their tests. Some possible areas of concern:

Heart surgeons. Rather than hire and promote the best doctor to operate on you we should decide who cuts you open based on racial fairness.

Proffesional athletes. Who really cares about touchdowns, slam dunks and strikes. What really matters is that a team has the exact racial makeup of the city they are in.

Firefighters. I know, it's been done. But think about it, imagine yourself in that burning building or medical situation, could you really live with yourself knowing that you were saved by a firefighter who passed a test proving that they were qualified?

Interpret the law

I don't care about a judges gender, race, childhood stories or family background. Those things are superficial when it comes to being able to look at a case and make a ruling based on what the law actually says.

A judge who believes that our rights come from God, not from the bench, will be a good judge.

Hispanic residents tell their stories
In this occasional series starting today, The Daily Astorian examines the North Coast's growing Hispanic population and its presence in local communities.

At 18, Mari Valencia left her job at a chocolate factory near Mexico City and came to Astoria to finish her education, improve her job prospects and become more independent.

"People come to the U.S. if they're having a hard time making a living in Mexico," she said, through an interpreter.

Norma Hernandez, director of the Lower Columbia Hispanic Council, said most Hispanic people came to the North Coast for financial reasons.

Their biggest problem is the inability to go back and forth to Mexico. They miss family back home.

"Going back is easy. Getting back in to the U.S. is not," the interpreter conveyed.

"Why is it hard to get back in" asked the reporter... oh wait, nevermind.

Fidel Hernandez and his wife came to Astoria from Puebla, Mexico, 15 years ago. Speaking through an interpreter, Hernandez said he's stayed in Astoria the entire time because he likes living here.

He's been here 15 years and doesn't speak English. But he does love America right?

And when asked what keeps him here, the reserved man said, "I have a lot of dreams. But mostly, money."

Nope, just greedy.

Some said they see the election of President Barack Obama as a sign that the political climate has changed, and there is hope for immigration reform.

I can't believe this puff piece. A bunch of illegal aliens get portrayed as representative of the Hispanic people and pretty much all confirm that they are here because they are greedy. The Daily Astorian doesn't have any follow up questions regarding being here illegaly or ask any Astorian who is unemployed what they think about Mexicans taking their jobs.

That the paper tries to portray a man who left his wife and three children abandoned in another country as somehow a good guy demonstrates how sick these liberals are.

Senator Feinstein Introduces Legislation to Relieve Labor Crisis in Agriculture
The Agricultural Job Opportunities, Benefits and Security Act (AgJOBS) would reform the broken H-2A seasonal worker program, provide farmers with the stable, legal workforce they deserve, and offer a pathway to citizenship for hard-working, law-abiding immigrants already employed on American farms.

Let me check my liberal translation dictionary since actual hard working and law-abiding immigrants don't need a pathway to citizenship...

Hard-working, law-abiding immigrants noun criminal aliens who are currently breaking our immigration laws, labor laws and ID laws. They have a tendency to use your SSN to gain unlawful employment and may be raping coworkers in a Wendy's bathroom.

The AgJOBS bill is a two-part bill. The first part would create a five-year pilot program to identify undocumented agricultural workers and legalize the immigration status for those who have been working in the United States for the past two years or more. The second part would reform the H-2A visa system to provide farmers and growers with a legal path to bring guest workers to the United States to harvest their crops.

Whew, thank goodness that with illegal labor we can keep our farming in the 19th century with no mechanization. Imagine the engineers and machinists who would be employed with that more efficient form of crop picking.

It is clear that the tactic for amnesty is to do the death by 1 million cuts. Although in this case it's more like 20 million.

Yay democrats

Oregon senators say gun vote protects state rights
Oregon Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley say they were acting to preserve states' rights when they voted in favor of an amendment allowing loaded guns in national parks and wildlife refuges.

Merkley spokeswoman Julie Edwards says Oregon law already allows qualified gun owners to carry firearms within state parks.

Under current federal policy, she adds, a gun owner could violate federal law by passing from state to federal land.

I'm always willing to point out when politicians that I normally don't agree with do the right thing. There is no reason to ban firearms in these parks and it should offend everyone that our federal government would try to infringe upon people's natural right to keep and bear arms by restricting where they can carry.

The DREAM is a nightmare

Gladstone man held in rape of fellow employee
Evanivaldo Alejo Sebastian, 29, is set to be arraigned today in Clackamas County Circuit Court on charges of first-degree rape and third-degree sexual abuse. He is being held in the Clackamas County Jail on $257,500 bail.

Detective Jim Strovink, Clackamas County sheriff's spokesman, said a 19-year-old woman called to tell police she had been raped in the bathroom of a fast-food restaurant where she and Alejo Sebastian worked.

He is not being held on bail as the Oregonian reports here. According to the Clackamas County Jail:

But frankly I don't know how we could arrest this guy without first consulting with CAUSA to find out if we are "splitting up a family" by taking him into custody.

The new American Idol

Over at BlueOregon, where they hate black people, (I keep saying it so it must be true) they have gone from political commentary to gushing about what the Obama's are wearing now.

This morning when I was listening to Weekend Edition on NPR (yes, I'm a Bobo in Paradise) a story came on about Michelle Obama. Of course I immediately stopped in my tracks to listen because the First Lady is my idol.

I think Mrs. Obama's outfits are almost always perfect and I love that she mixes designer pieces with items from J. Crew and White House Black Market. Others - specifically designer Oscar de la Renta - have problems with her choices.

An entire post about various names who I can only assume are fashion designers who make $540 sneakers. They can say what they want about the Republican party but clearly the Democrats have become like teenage girls at a Backstreet Boys concert. It's kind of funny.

They can't learn to drive without taxpayer funded cars?

Remember, children can’t learn to swim without pool
In Lake Oswego School District, the superintendent’s initial recommendations for the 2009-10 school year include “raising fees, reducing pool hours and closing for extended time frames” in an effort to reduce the pool operating deficit by 50 percent.

Apart from a safety issue, integrating swimming back into the curriculum is a selling point at a time when our district seeks to attract tuition paying students. Lake Oswego School District has a pool; West Linn, Riverdale, Jesuit, Oregon Episcopal, Catlin Gabel, Our Lady of the Lake, and Touchstone do not.

This is another case where I wonder who is advising these people on public relations. Crying poor because you have to reduce taxpayer funded pool hours is not going to garner you much sympathy in my book.

Parents can feel free to take their kids to the YMCA, public pool or a river or lake. In a lot of districts around the state parents seem to think that it's the schools job to feed their kids (even during summer and spring break) but in Lake Oswego they think the schools should teach their kids how to swim.

Seeing Representative Dave Hunt spouting one-liners and waiting for the Spanish translation just makes me laugh. And there is a "pathway to citizenship" for law abiding immigrants... just not criminal aliens.

Homeless support illegal workers?

Street Roots is Portland's official newspaper of the homeless. No really. But how do the homeless produce a newspaper you ask? Their financial report reveals much about their budget:

Government support: 17%

The rest is from foundations and individual donors. It's like PBS for bums.

But I'm very excited about the May issue because it's almost entirely about illegal alien job thieves. I know what you are thinking: "surely the homeless were enthused at the prospect of work at Fresh Del Monte once the illegal aliens were gone?" Sorry fellow Oregon taxpayers, they apparently would prefer to panhandle while you continue to subsidize their newspaper.

The irony is that this demonstration wouldn't be possible in Mexico because their constition says that immigrants and foreign visitors are banned from public political discourse.

Now that is Mexico's business for sure. But the immigration policy of the United States is our business and the illegal aliens and their "you owe us" mentality should go be citizens of the world somewhere else.

Criminals supporters spit in the face of America citizens and legal immigrants

Tomorrow we will have criminal supporters taking to the streets to demand that America change it's laws to suit their greed.

It will be very interesting to see how the media, after treating the tea-party protests with contempt, shows favorable coverage to the criminal excusers.

Oregon scores $382 million in stimulus funds
Oregon officially won $382 million of federal stimulus money for schools and colleges today, after Gov. Ted Kulongoski convinced federal officials he will spend enough state money on education and use the federal dollars to help struggling schools improve.

Most Portland-area school districts will hold a full school year this spring, thanks in part to the federal money.

Not thanks in part to federal taxpayers, thanks to the federal government. We "won" and "scored" the money. This propaganda really does reasonate with some people who think that we somehow got free money "for the children."

Story 2:
SEIU steps up campaign for Oregon tax hike
Service Employees Interntional Union, the largest of the Oregon state employee unions, has launched a radio commercial aimed at bolstering public support for raising taxes to preserve government services.

"Certainly prosperous corporations and wealthy Oregonians are a good place to start," said [SEIU Spokesman Ed] Hershey.

Government workers have figured out that voters are selfishly willing to support a tax on their neighbors as long as it doesn't affect them. Except that it usually does affect them and you will notice that SEIU views "the rich" as a good place to start... but there is no good place to stop in their minds.

Good thing they won't all be in one place on Friday... oh wait

Texas flu death first outside Mexico
A baby in Texas has died of the H1N1 flu strain, the first confirmed death outside Mexico from a virus which health officials fear could cause a pandemic as it spread to two more countries in Europe.

Nearly a week after the threat emerged in Mexico, where up to 159 people have died, a U.S. official said on Wednesday a 23-month-old had died in the state bordering Mexico. A health official said the baby was Mexican and was in the United States for medical treatment.

I'm reeling from shock. Not over the fact that Reurters didn't think it was relevent to print how the baby with the Swine Flu came into America (because tracking pandemic disease would just be silly) but because Mexico has universal health care and yet the baby was in Capitalist Pig America for treatment.

But I'm over that now because I'm laughing myself silly because this Friday CAUSA, PCUN and the various other racist organizations are going to be in Salem and Portland marching for illegal aliens. This means that large groups of potentially fresh from Mexico criminals will all be passing out literature, signs and flags and then crammed together to listen to speaches and to march hand in hand.

Perhaps you guys could aquire some facemasks with the "si se puede" phrase printed on it and some t-shirts that say "the SEIU made me come here as a union event and all I got was this darn swine flu."

University seeks to promote gender-neutral housing, will include students of all sexual orientation

The hall could serve many kinds of students, Grant Schoonover said, including gay or lesbian students who would prefer to live with people of different genders, students who are transitioning between genders or students who want to live with a significant other or a sibling.

ASUO President Sam Dotters-Katz said all the residence halls need to be more gender-inclusive, not just this one. University Housing needs to increase its number of gender neutral bathrooms, "in every [building], if not every floor," he said.

"Right now our housing system operates in a traditional gender binary and that in itself makes some people uncomfortable," Grant Schoonover said.

Quick, we need to raise taxes so that our institutions of higher learning can build more gender neutral bathrooms and college dorms that cater to people who are "transitioning between genders."

It's almost as if liberals, emboldened by the ease with which they spread the lie of global warming, are trying to convince the American sheeple that gender is merely a concept rather than a biological reality.

Lawmaker wants border closed over swine flu
The "swine flu" that has infected more than 1,000 people in Mexico has led a lawmaker on the House Homeland Security Committee to call on U.S. officials to close the southern border.

Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.) said the border should be closed until the threat is resolved.

"The public needs to be aware of the serious threat of swine flu, and we need to close our borders to Mexico immediately and completely until this is resolved," Massa said in a statement.

No one gets asked "are you bringing any fruit" when they cross the border illegaly. No one who is sweating profusely with fever gets stopped and checked. Our neighbor to the south has very different health standards than we do and allowing people to come across the border illegaly and unchecked is a pandemic waiting to happen.

See, only half are complete tax cheats

You know that your argument for amnesty might be shaky when you start citing reports saying that 25-50% of illegal aliens are complete tax dodgers.

Of course the ones who work illegaly and do file a return take the $7 billion in child tax credits that went to illegal aliens and therefore had a negative federal income tax liability. Illegal aliens who steal your SSN to work (illegaly) are hailed as heroes for paying into social security. Does anyone else remember when ID theft was a major concern?

CAUSA's position is that is akin to arguing that the fencing of stolen property in states with a sales tax should be legal to "bring the transactions into the tax system."

They also cite the fact that legal workers earn more money... which is what we have been saying for quite some time in an effort to get rid of illegal workers which would raise wages for Americans and legal immigrants.

I guess picking up after themselves is a job that illegal aliens won't do. Maybe if we offered them a "garbage tax credit" or some other monetary reward since greed seems to be all that motivates them.

Foreigners allowed improper tax credits by IRS
The IRS allowed foreign workers _ many of them in the U.S. illegally _ to improperly claim nearly $7 billion in child tax credits from 2004 to 2007, a government investigator said Thursday.

"As it now stands, the payment of federal funds through this tax benefit appears to provide an additional incentive for aliens to enter, reside and work in the U.S. without authorization, which contradicts federal law and policy to remove such incentives," the report said.

The child tax credit allows millions of families to cut their federal income taxes by up to $1,000 per child. It is also available to families that don't make enough money to pay any federal income taxes. Those families receive payments after they file their tax returns.

These illegal aliens have a negative federal income tax liability. It amounts to a welfare payment written into the tax code. Keep in mind that these are the illegal aliens who bother to file a tax return. The other ones simply use your SSN or mine and then let us deal with the ID theft implications.
