State commission cries about law enforcement

This race based commission just sent a letter to the Multnomah County Chair to complain about the sheriff participating in the "secure communities" program.
This is the program where people who are arrested for crimes like murder, rape, drugs, theft, robbery, etc get checked to see if they are here illegally. If they are then ICE is contacted.
The Oregon Commission on Hispanic would like to express their deepest concern to the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners about the Sheriff Department's participation in the "Secure Communities" Program. Recognizing the concern arising in our communities around such collaborations, the Commission would like to encourage greater transparency around the issue.
I'm not sure about you but I live in the same "communities" as Hispanic people (actually the same house) and I don't have any concern with the sheriff helping to rid these communities of criminals aliens who have gone above and beyond being here illegally, working illegally and using a false/stolen SSN illegally.
...the suitability of the "Secure Communities" Program for Multnomah County should be discussed, and we urge the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners to request the withdrawal of the County Sheriffs Department from the program.
This is not about "hardworking immigrants" but illegal aliens who have been arrested for other crimes that would place them in jail. Sheriff Staton is going to come under pressure to stop using this necessary program. We need to support him.

The NFL should be ashamed
NBC used as much Spanish as the local welfare office while ESPN's contribution involved showing a mural with a picture of Che Guevara's face on it.
I'd like to make some comparisons:
Portland's own Randy Leonard insists on locking up spray paint. What percentage of spray paint users are people who break the law with it?
He works for the same government that insists on hiring an endless supply of Spanish-speaking staff. What percentage of monolingual Spanish speakers in Oregon are lawbreakers?
It's the same with cold pills. A small minority of lawbreakers ruin it for the rest of us.
The ONLY reason that Spanish is so prevalent here in America is because of criminal aliens from south of the border. Our government and the NFL are helping criminals feel comfortable by pandering to their culture.
What would people think of a store that sold spray paint and cold pills while advertising a "no questions asked" policy?

Free market > executive order
Electrically propelled vehicles are much cheaper to operate, need less maintenance, and emit a fraction of the green house gas emissions than traditional vehicles.
Which is why everyone is clamoring to buy one and government subsidies aren't needed... oh wait.
1. The Governor's Transportation Electrification Executive Council (Executive Council) is established.
2. The Executive Council shall consist of no more than 12 members appointed by the Governor.
3. Members of the Executive Council serve at the pleasure of the Governor.
This means that Kitzhaber's girlfriend can get a new gig.
e. Facilitate development of public education and acceptance outreach campaigns to accelerate the transition to electric transportation, including education and training of Oregon's workforce to prepare for electric vehicle infrastructure
This means "brainwash" and "force" people to accept and use vehicles that they wouldn't otherwise choose.
Was there an executive order to mandate use of the internet? Of the refrigerator? Of the iPhone? Of Facebook?
This is another example of the government knowing what we should want rather than letting us choose what we want. They need to keep the kicker so that they can force us into three wheeled electric cars.

It's not law but it is policy
It was just this year that the union representing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers issued an unanimous vote of no confidence in their own leadership.
Some excerpts:
Senior ICE leadership dedicates more time to campaigning for immigration refonns aimed at large scale amnesty legislation, than advising the American public and Federal lawmakers on the severity of the illegal immigration problem, and the need for more manpower and resources within ICE ERO to address it. ICE ERO is currently overwhelmed by the massive criminal alien problem in the United States resulting in the large-scale release of criminals back into local communities.
The majority of ICE ERO Officers are prohibited from making street arrests or enforcing United States immigration laws outside of the institutional (jail) setting. This has effectively created "amnesty through policy" for anyone illegally in the United States who has not been arrested by another agency for a criminal violation.

Stop the amnesty
As of right now Senator Wyden's phone lines are jammed. Make those calls today in opposition to the DREAM Act amnesty!!
From Jeff Merkley:
Dear Daniel,
Thank you for contacting me to share your concerns about the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act (S. 729). While we may disagree about this legislation, I appreciate knowing your views and value the opportunity to share my perspective.
I believe every student deserves the opportunity to attend college and achieve his or her full potential, and that children should not be held responsible for their parents' actions. The DREAM Act would allow undocumented students who have been in the United States for at least five years the opportunity to earn legal status. I believe it is in our nation's best interest to ensure that all children receive the opportunities of higher education so that they can join the workforce and fully contribute to the economy and society.
Thank you, again, for sharing your thoughts with me. I hope you will continue to keep me informed about the issues that matter most to you.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey A. Merkley
United States Senator

Teach a man to fish
The Human Services Resource Center is expanding its services and operating from a new location this year to better assist [OSU] students struggling with poverty.
Students can access OSU's MealBux program and emergency food pantry, receive refunds on campus health insurance, find temporary housing and receive up to $1,000 in rental assistance through the HSRC. Graduate students may apply to receive up to $150 back in registration fees.
"When students walk into the food pantry they're called shoppers," Overholser said. "It's the way we do things that is important.
The center opened in September 2009 and during its first year of operation about 1,000 students accessed the food pantry, about 1,000 students received money for campus meals through MealBux, 30 graduate students received refunds on registration fees, about 30 students received refunds on campus health insurance and 10 students received temporary emergency housing at no personal cost.
I enjoy helping people. That's why I don't approve of things like the Human Services Resource Center.
Calling someone a "shopper" while they are receiving charity is disgusting. The person on the receiving end should know that they are being helped, appreciate that help and also realize that they aren't doing for themselves which is the eventual goal. Charity is a wonderful thing, don't cheapen it.
I also don't like the "zero cost" method of giving to people because they have no pride in ownership. Whether it's a sliding scale payment or sweat equity, having someone put a token amount of skin in the game is essential to showing that housing, insurance, education, etc aren't FREE.
Let's help people learn to become self sufficient and genuinely grateful for the help that they do receive, not enable them to live of others while calling it something else.

It's as if government doesn't understand irony
RACC invites multidisciplinary artist teams in visual, performing, literary and/or media arts to submit qualifications for an intersections project with the Multnomah County Bridge Section which operates six bridges that cross the Willamette River in the Portland area. The budget for the project is $25,000. Artists are encouraged to create work in any media that highlights/comments upon some aspect of the bridges in general, be it real, imaginary or metaphorical, while going beyond strictly literal representation or documentation.
This is actually excellent news for people who cross the crumbling Sellwood bridge because when it collapses with you on it you can claim that you were "performing art" when you fell into the river and collect your $25K of tax dollars.
The priorities in Portland go as follows:
1. Build a new bridge across the Columbia? LOW
2. Repair the unsafe Sellwood bridge? LOW
3. Spend taxpayer dollars making art about bridges? HIGH
4. Raising taxes? HIGH

Your OFIR dollars at work
Oregonians for Immigration Reform has billboards back up! Not just this one but a digital billboard with constantly changing messages.
If you have suggestions/ideas for the digital board please leave comments. If you would like to help keep these billboards going consider making a donation to the OFIR PAC.
Remember that with your Oregon political tax credit you can make a contribution and get the money back when you file your taxes. Stopping illegal aliens and keeping money away from government at the same time, this is my happy place!

It makes me want to avoid taxes too
Administrative Specialist 1 (Part-time Public Art Assistant)
$1,141.00 - $1,617.50 Monthly (part time)
Job Type: Permanent
The primary purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the Arts Commission's Visual Arts Coordinator, working primarily on Oregon's Percent for Art Program.
I can't believe that our Visual Arts Coordinator is currently without an assistant! In the year 2010, in America, no taxpayer funded Visual Arts Coordinator should have to suffer without an assistant. This is a tragedy.

Everyone else is trying to pay more taxes
Dudley: It's true, I wanted to keep more of the money that I earned rather than give it to government to spend on needle exchange and migrant outreach programs.
Dudley's tax advisor: And I didn't get the industry memo telling me to advise my client on how to pay MORE taxes rather than less which is what tax advisers are supposed to do.
Dudley: While I realize that BlueOregon spends every December encouraging people to hurry up and use their political tax credit which will reduce their tax liability, probably because they hate black people (I keep saying it so it must be true!) it is different when I do anything to reduce my own tax liability.
Random charitable organization: No Democrat has every kept a receipt from their gift in order to reduce tax liability. Ever.
The NEA: NEA supports expanding the educator tax deduction because it recognizes the sacrifices made by educators who work in America’s public schools.
Kitzhaber's donation website: "Oregon offers an income tax credit to residents who contribute to qualifying state, federal or local political campaigns. The total credit is limited to $100 on a joint return or $50 on a single or separate return. Please see OregonTaxCredit.com for details."
Me: Teachers are trying to dodge taxes because they hate children!

I will finally reward creativity
I know that the link to this image has been posted in the comments section here for quite some time but I just got around to actually looking at it. While it isn't as creative as the photoshop of my body with the head of Timmy (the retarded kid from South Park) I must say that I'm inspired that one of you would spend the time.
I'm also going to ignore that you said "chamber of congress" when you really meant "chamber of commerce" because I know what you meant. Here are two examples to answer your charges:

Now I realize that your response will be "yeah but that's only TWO examples" or "why do you kill puppies for fun" but I have to give you credit for making the image.

Frame the issue
I am so sick of hearing this. What is this a solution to? Is the problem that government doesn't have enough money? Why is our rallying cry "we need to create more taxpayers to make sure that the government is flush with cash!"
I like some of what I read in Chris Dudley's 26 point plan but let me summarize with my own three point plan:
1. Less government
2. Less government
3. Less government
As a wonderful byproduct of my three point plan we will achieve the following:
1. More liberty
2. More liberty
3. More liberty
I long for the day when we can get politicians to talk about government like Ronald Reagan did:
Man is not free unless government is limited.
Government always finds a need for whatever money it gets.
Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.
Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives.
Government is like a baby. An alimentary canal with a loud voice at one end and no responsibility at the other.
