It will never be enough

Oregon revenue hunt comes to a head: beer
With cuts looming in social services and not enough money for health care, lawmakers in Salem are eyeing the frosty winter ale in Keith McCowan's pint as a possible revenue godsend.

Never before, it seems, has the climate been so ripe to raise taxes on sin. Democrats command supermajorities in both chambers, which means they can increase taxes without Republican votes.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: government has one source of revenue and that is us. They can "look" for another "leg on the stool" but it's just coming out of a different pocket in your pants.

But the Oregonian makes it sound like this is our benevolent legislators who are just trying to provide health care for the needy going up against evil lobbyists for the beer industry. At least we get a wonderful preview of things to come by looking at the Oregon Health Plan. The money pit that can never be filled.

I guess that I will go accross the river to get my dose of beer.I would rather pay there sales tax than to support the crap going on over here. (it won't amount to much one 6 pack a month ), at least untill they copy more of portlands crap that is !

but it certainly applies here: Everyone has the right to be stupid, but Teddy the Useless and the State Legislature are abusing the privilege.

They seem to want to drive legitimate businesses out of Oregon.

Maybe when Teddy the Useless retires, he should move to Oceanside where they don't like legitimate businesses either and drive their owners out of town just because he had the NERVE to buy a business that had a building that a few people didn't like.

Somehow the first part of my first sentence got erased. It should read - I've written this before - - -

Bye bye micro beers. We can now buy out of state brewed beer. Great, that will send more money out of state. We are governed by idiots who were elected by idiots.

Watching the libs stampede into the "free" money in the stimulus trough would be amusing if it weren't so real and sickening. They are mindless thieves with an unquenchable thirst for other people's money. More taxes, on top of the estimated $2 Billion in stimulus money lifted from our wallets, is a new record in irresponsibility. Way to go, libs. You scream for jobs, while killing the golden geese which provide them. Third-world, get ready for a new member.

I homebrew, anyway. That said, it's another stupid idea from what pass as "leaders" in Oregon. Oregon has the 2nd or 3rd highest minimum wage in the country because it's such a "progressive" place. It's also got one of the highest unemployment rates - and for the same reason. Their answer?

Let's tax a few thousand more jobs out of existence.

Goverment can't get enough of us on thererolls. tax the hard working people right into extintion
. The dems just want to buy your vote , so they just keep giving you more and more entitlements.
SO LETS JUST GIVE THEM CONTROL OVER EVERYTHING AND WATCH THE CRAP REALY BEGIN TO FLOW (not)

Dave 01: "When you get the fools on your side, you can be elected to anything." Frank Dane wrote that a few years ago. But it applies in Oregon with Teddy the Useless and the biggest part of the legislature, in Washington State with Queen Chrissie and her minions and sycophants, and, of course, in D. C. with Komrade Obama's and his administration.

OK, two comments on this one:

1. This tax hike is supposedly to finance State sponsered "Addiction Recovery" efforts. I can tell you from my experience as a Law Enforcement Officer, that the overwhelming majority of those seeking "Addiction Recovery" aren't addicted to anything even CLOSE to beer. On top of that, since when is it the responsibility of the State (i.e Taxpayer) to pay for the addiction recovery of anyone?

2. When the breweries leave to go brew in another State.....there will be no beer to tax. Oregon will then find it necessary to tax something else.....and then something else.....and then something else....and so on and so on.

May I suggest a GPS unit on all kegs and cases of beer to determine how far they have traveled to get to the store. Then we can apply a CO2 tax to cover their contribution to global warming. Or perhaps an uncap and trade scam.

Scottiebill said...

Hey, Bobkatt, You must have forgotten that CO2 is a pollutant that must be eliminated. So sayeth Pope Algore I, and echoed by Teddy the Useless. I really wish you hadn't posted that suggestion, because the Oregon and Washington legislators will likely add a CO2 tax to the stupid beer tax that is being proposed, thus driving up the cost of beer even higher.

The route to long-term economic growth lies in tax cuts, not hikes.

Taxpayers need to let their voices be heard. Check out this link:

Dems are nothing more then a one trick pony. taxes taxes taxes. they have no idea how to create real revenue because NONE of them have ever worked a day in their pathetic lives. Also, there is a reason dems love to raise taxes..they dont pay them. Look at the obama crew as a prime example.

ps cali is just a short 22 miles away from me, and there is a great little resturant in Dorris. Beverages will be brought from there. I would rather pay their taxes then Oregons, so piss off dems.

Bobkatt said...

Scottiebill- Sorry it was just my lame attempt at connecting the GPS tax that Teddy the Useless wants that will discourage higher mileage autos with the beer tax that will hurt local breweries.

Scottiebill said...

Bobkatt, I just couldn't resist getting in a little dig in.

And the Anon posting just above yours says that he will likely go to Dorris, CA for his beer supply shuld Teddy the Useless sign this abomination into law.

My wife and I grew up in north central Montana jut 35 miles from the large border crossing at Sweetgrass, MT/Coutts, AB on I-15. It is surprising how many Canadians from Lethbridge, Milk River, and others come into Montana to our town and the one just 20 miles east to do much of their shopping.

Granted, they have to pay a duty to the Canadian government on the stuff they buy, but they figure it is cheaper than paying the high sales tax that Alberta has.

Bobkatt said...

In the event that this egregious tax does go through, I would hope that those who wish to go to another state to protest would reconsider. Considering where we are, the bordering states are worse than Oregon in their progressive agenda except for maybe Idaho. It's not the local brewers that are behind this tax so please don't punish them. As far as the national brewers, most of them are part of the illegal problem.

Scottiebill said...

I should have mentioned that a lot of Montanans go into Lethbridge and Milk River to buy Canadian beer to bring home. Labatt's and Molson put out a far better product than Anheuser Busch or Millers and especially Coors.

Plenty of Dems are beer drinkers - or worse.
So, it a way, it is kind of amusing.
I would hope that taxes be increased on the products/industries which hire the most illegals.
It might get the beer makers over to our side, however, when they see they may go bankrupt.
