First Baby Boomer Files For Social Security Benefits
Kathleen Casey-Kirschling filed for early retirement Monday, becoming the first baby boomer to start collecting Social Security.
"I think I'm just lucky to be at the top of the boom. I'm just one of many many millions and am blessed to have been in this generation and really blessed and to take my Social Security now," Casey-Kirschling said during a ceremony held at the National Press Club featuring Social Security Commissioner Michael J. Astrue.
I'll golf clap for you Kathleen. We should all be so proud that your livlihood is now in the hands of others. Isn't it liberating to know that politicians (and therefore voters) control your financial destiny?
Will you get an increase? How much? It's all up to the whims of others yyyaaaayyyy! The important thing is now you are forever bonded to this issue and will be forced into a voting life of servitude to protect your financial well being. Castro and Chavez are smiling right now.

ReplyDeleteGee, I remember when men who loved their jobs would cry on their last day of work, and their fellow employees would cry with them, knowing how much they would be missed on the job. It doesn't sound as though she's going to miss any part of being employed, or earning a living and it doesn't sound as if she'll be missed by anybody. By taking an early retirement, this woman is at least reducing her burden on younger workers, and won't get medicare until she's 62. Do we know if she was a public employee? That might explain a lot re the size of her golden parachute.

ReplyDeletePer usual, you make sweeping judgements of people with very little information to justify it. First of all, how do you KNOW Ms. Casey-Kirshling will be DEPENDING on her Social Security. Its a REALLY small world. My aunt and uncle have been their neighbors for decades now. They aren't hurting, in fact, their spare time is spent on their YACHT. I hardly doubt she DEPENDS on her money.
Another thing, Daniel, don't be so damn smug about your future. You could be hit by a semi-truck on your way home from work today and spend the rest of your life as a parapalegic who DEPENDS on social security disability and medicaid. You could be wiped out by a catastrophic illness and have NO retirement savings by the time you retire. I used to know a big whig at Albertsons who had the same attitude you do. His wife developed ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease) at about the same time he was forced into early retirement at Albertsons back when things started to go bad for them (2000). They've lost it all battling her disease, paying for long term care. They live in an apartment now and their SS check makes up a big part of their income. He is a far different man than the smug a**hole he used to be. Shit happens Daniel.

Ill never understand how the boomer generation was so willing to sacrifice their kids future, for their own greed. Then again, its been said that a democracy will enter its final state of decline when the people find out they can vote themselves money.
One nice thing though is if Al Gore is right, I guess her kids will have one thing Kathy didn't, lower heating bills because of that 0.7 degree warming. Maybe all is not lost.

Once again, failure to read. Her generation was the greediest, mine will see a negative return at best due to their actions. Her generation should have cut back, raised the retirement age rather than keeping it the same to scam future generations. Clearly from her quote, she appears to know this. That was what my post was about.
Since I am self employed I pay the full 12.5%.I will see probably close to a 50% negative return. I have already lost half my money so there is your donation smart guy. Probably far more than you will ever do. My generation wont be the problem. Social security will go back to the original rip off it was when they raise the retirement age back to where it was, past life expectancy.. Her generation is the problem, they bear the blame entirely and, once again, by her quote, she is clearly aware of this.
