my 11 year old is well into the seventh grade, homeschooling. My wife and I are now wondering how he could have done it without abuse counseling.

Nothing like having adults talk to kids about their sexual preferences. Seems safe to me...
We definitely are lagging behind the Europe when it comes to education. Appearently according to the English National Union of Teachers, you are never too young to learn about homosexuality.
