That's "Dr." illegal to you

Illegal Scholar
Carlos is a bright high-school senior who wants to go to college. Here's the problem: He's an undocumented immigrant.

This is the WW story that we have been hearing about all day. Read it for yourself. It's a great story on the crimes and costs associated with the "good" illegal aliens. The stolen social security numbers, the fradulent work documents, the tax scams, the education costs... and these are the illegal aliens that aren't (presumably) raping girls and selling drugs.

Question for "Carlos": you can't get a job, what do you need a college education for?

The biggest joke of all is the idea that the empty, meaningless, repetitive, self-defeating spitballing in the three posts above is a productive use of time, thought and 286 bytes of file space.

Decorum, please.

So does anyone understand why someone who is not allowed to have a job in this country needs a college education?

You know what is going to tear this country apart? It is these countless special interest groups based on race. LaRaza, Meecha, CAIR, etc. are just a few of the likely thousands.

These groups and assorted personalities and politicans that support their agendas are putting race over country and the laws within. If you ask me they are the real racists.

it angers me that these people don't think anything about stealing somebody's Social Security number, of course, if somebody stole something of the errors it would be a different story.

the other thing is that in my opinion about the article, is that once again they are laughing in the face of our law and culture and basically saying that we talk tough and take no action.

Daniel, the answer to your question is very simple, and can be found in Article 26.1 of the Unversal Declaration of Human Rights: "Everyone has a right to education" and "higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit", were nationality, migratoy status, place of birth, criminal record of parents, or such things, are not mentioned in any way. So you see, education is not simply preparation for a job, but something that every human being is entitled to.

Anon 4:49 - Uh just who is "Entitled" to pay for this education entitlement that the U.N. (Communist organization dedicated to ruling the world)says everyone on earth has a "Right" to? Sorry, spouting Communist talking points doesn't "Entitle" someone in this country ILLEGALLY to anything.

To Anon 4:49,
You have got to be kidding me, right, that "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" is a statement not a law. While it has good intentions, it can't cover for the fact that "Carlos" is taking benefits from the people who legally deserve it.
On a side note, why do "progressives" have to resort calling immigrration reform folks racist, we just realize that an open border policy will fail and we have a right to be sovreign nation.s.

Just as the Islamists have brain-washed the children of the Middle East so have the Secular Socialists conditioned our children with the only difference being the equally evil goals are 100% opposite..

Well, Daniel's question was what does he need an education for if he can get a job. Somebody that thinks "if he's not going to get a job, then what's the point of getting an education" sounds very uneducated to me, and probably like someone that didn't exercise his right to an education. Education is not an something you get to get a job, it is a right that someday hopefully all humans will have, and having the opportunity, I think everybody should be encouraged to persue an education. Just how this education should be provided, is not what I was referring to.

On the matters that last two posts refer to, the "communist" label just deserves no reply, I guess we're still living in the 50's, and regarding who is legally entitled to education, I could argue that I pay taxes but I don't get an education, and I don't have children who get it, so why should I be paying for anyone else's education? and the answer to that is so simple that I need not to give it...

Finally, I'd like to remark that it's hardly Carlos' fault that his parents brought him to the US when he was 8, and he can't be blamed for trying to make the best of what he's been handed. But worry you not, for the article is precisely about how he's NOT going to be able to go to college...

"so have the Secular Socialists conditioned our children with the only difference being the equally evil goals are 100% opposite.."

But... but the opposite of evil... isn't that good? So we're brainwashing your children into a fierce belief in absolute good. That's wonderful praise to hear.

"On a side note, why do 'progressives' have to resort calling immigrration reform folks racist"

We don't have to, and most don't. There are real reasons to keep some of these 11 million people on our side, and in any serious debate, ad hominem accusations of racism are just as out-of-place as charges of a pro-terrorist agenda.

Everyone here who cares about the issues and believes in the power of free speech to generate solutions must remember that people like Daniel attract ignorant belligerent hacks like moths to a flame. And the moths know who they are.

The Willamette Week article tells us that "Carlos" (not his real name) gets terrific grades; he's fluent in English and Spanish; and that both his parents work, frequently getting overtime work.

So there's good news! "Carlos" can go to college!

In Mexico, of course. Where "Carlos" is a citizen.

His parents will be able to send him to the best university in Mexico, with all the Yankee dollars they make.

Scottiebill said...

WW says that "Carlos" is fluent isn both English and MexSpanish, gets teriffic grades, both parents work (did the article say that they are both working illegally, since they are here illegally?). My reactions is just this: BFD!!

My grandson is fluent in both English and MexSpanish, he and his wife, who was born in Mexico but now has had her U.S. citizenship for some 15 years, both work hard (he is a civil engineer for a Seattle-based engineering firm and she is an RN at a Seattle hospital, and their 3 kids are all fluent in English and MexSpanish and getting top grades in school. My grandson was born in Montana to my daughter and her ex-husband, both WASPs.

So "Carlos is not necessarily unique in his "qualifications". There are other people in this country who have done and can do the same thing.

By the way my grandson served in the Army with stints in Germany and Macedonia, then put himself through college, with GI bill help, and earned his Masters in Civil Engineering from New Mexico State, on his own, without a full-ride scholarship like Reed College is offering "Carlos".

Again. "Carlos" has all these attributes that somehow qualify him for full-ride scholarships illegally from an ultra left wing, liberal college like Reed. BFD!!!! So do many other LEGAL citizens.

Anonymous said...

The simple fact is that if "Carlos" gets a free ride, someone else does not.

That someone else would be a citizen of the US. That someone else may have a father who fought for this country in vietnam, a grandfather who fought for it in Korea or WWII and a great grandfather who fought for it in WWI.

That somneone else's parents, grandparents or great grandparents may have risked their lives and spent thousands of dolars and waited years to come to this country legally.

That someone else's parents and grandparents have spent their entire adult lives paying taxes and working hard so that their son/grandson could acheive the American Dream of a college education and a better standard of living tan they had.

So now we're going to disregard all those contributions and give a free college education to the criminal offspring of criminals who snuck into this country and stole the identity of others in preference to someone whose family has spent lifetimes EARNING the right to be considered for a scholarship?

" ... and these [people like the high school senior profiled in WW] are the illegal aliens that aren't (presumably) raping girls and selling drugs."

So if "these" illegal aliens "presumably" aren't raping girls and selling drugs, then the rest of them ('illegal aliens' who aren't getting good grades in school and thus worthy of being profiled as a "good" 'illegal alien' by Willamette Week) "presumably" are raping girls and selling drugs? Like, all of them? Is this what you're "presuming"?

Thank-you for making it very clear exactly where you're coming from.

Because I care about "Carlos" (not his real name) I did a little googling, and have a couple leads on colleges in Mexico.

- Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (and they have a scholarship page).

- Universidad Iberoamericana, Ciudad de Mexico

Both look like real nice colleges. Here's to your future, "Carlos" (not his real name). Carpe diem!

Anon 12:06 (if that's your real name)...

No, no. You don't understand - the only "good illegal alien" is a deported I.A.

FYI - Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico is a far better University than any in Oregon, although I realize that's not saying much.

You know, Universities often time attract native students through diversity. This, my friends, is the free market system at its finest.

Scottiebill said...

BSaxton: First you blame NAFTA for the huge influx of illegals, then you praise the universities for being diverse enough to attract the illegals. A bit of conflict of ideas, is it not?

Bryan said...

I'm not saying the influx of illegal immigrants is a bad thing. I just think it's funny that you tend to ignore that the fact they're coming into the country because of something we've done. I never even said that diversity was a good thing (even though I beleive it is). You guys assume too much.
