The advocate manager

Now Hiring:

Administrator, Oregon Advocacy Commissions Office
$3,287 - $4,840 MONTHLY

This is an executive service position, appointed by and reporting to, the Director of DAS. The Advocacy Commissions Office enables the following commissions to carry out their statutory duties: The Commission on Hispanic Affairs; The Commission on Black Affairs; The Commission for Women; and The Commission on Asian Affairs.

Because you can't have government agencies advocating for certain races unless they have the proper administrator.

Seriously, is it government's responsibility to advocate for people of a certain race? Is there no commission for just Oregonians? (Not that we need that either) Do all Hispanics have the same "affairs" or can they be different? And men are the minority in terms of gender, how come we don't get a commission?

This sounds a lot like "racial profiling", does it not?

I don't care how people sing the national anthem. Seems that most don't know the meaning of the song or know the words anyways. Many schools already recite the pledge of alligence in spanish, so what is the difference?

The Star Spangled Banner should be sung in English, assuming that Hispanics or blacks or Asians all have the same "affairs" is what's racist, I'm pointing that out.

English is the language of our nation, if you want to live here then you should learn it. If I wanted to live in another country I would learn their language.

The rational for having the advocates is that these groups have been systematically opressed and denied access to anything worthwhile by a racist, sexist, white-male dominated patriarchy. These advocates are needed to counteract white priveledge. It would hardly be fair for the opressors to have an advocate. Of course, it's all a crock of shit. But, I think you knew that.

Even President Bush is against the SSB being sung in Spanish. It's the first time I've seen him grow a pair about anything to do with the Mexican's. The Mexican's keep this up, and they will lose all support, and will find their sorry ass's heading back to that banana republic south of the border.

I don't know if I am the first one to come up with this or not, but we should call the new version the "Star Spangled Beaner"!!

The "Star-Spangled Banner" was taken from an old British Drinking Song, "To Anacreon in Heaven" so can singing it in Spanish really reflect a bad light on it. I don't think so. Isn't it better for people to sing it in another language than not sing it at all.

Maybe it is time we pass an ammendment to make English and Spanish our official languages.

I cold give a crap if the song originated from a Mexican Bar with a Donkey and a loose Women.
The words were written by a Man watching us have a hell of a fight with the British dictators.
WE WON!
For our melting pot of the World to work,(and the highest GDP forever says: it does work), we understood a common language was important.
Without a common language we would have too many people confused about things.
Confusion can divide a Nation.
English, for centuries, has reduced confusion, no matter where we were from.
I like it better when we are the UNITED States of America.
A common language helps that.
Does that make me a Racist?

It's far easier to conquer a divided nation. The Libs, love dividing everyone into groups. The Democratic party is made up of groups, not individuals. The Gay group, the Hispanic group, the Black group, the Felon group, the Teachers group, and of course leading to group think, or drinking the Kool-aid. But that's the way their leftist base wants it.

Not to leave the Republicans out, they to aspire "owning" some groups to...so they to pander to the Black group, the hispanic group, the Gay group and forget about their conservative base.

I'm sorry but we are individual Americans...and aren't we suppose judge folks based on the content of their character, not the color of their skin? Dividing into groups is the opposite of that.

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American ... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag ... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language ... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

....and the largest trade deficit and national debt." Hicky, you need to wake up. With our little dictator running the country and the nation divided and confused, maybe the Nuestro Himno could bring a little order. Adding the Spanish language (which it already symbolically is) to our roster can't make our country any worse.

Daniel,

Are you just jealous that you do not earn that much?

Maybe you should go back at shooting people in the back... remember?

Gang activities were your most lucrative ones -- stick to them.
