Because government wants every penny

Internet sales tax project gets underway
Residents of 13 US states will have to start paying sales tax on some Internet purchases, once the Streamlined Sales Tax Project (SSTP) becomes operational on October 1.

While a blessing to many consumers, online shopping has been a thorn in the side of state and local governments who feel the pain of missing tax revenues in the midst of rising costs and budget crunches. If the SSTP proves to be successful, you can bet that all 50 states will eventually sign on and major retailers will feel the pressure to participate as well. That would be good news for revenue-starved governments, but not for consumers who have become accustomed to tax-free Internet shopping.

Government just can't stand that commerce is being done and they aren't getting their cut of the action. Am I going to be required to collect sales tax on stuff that I sell on ebay?

all I can say is, Boston tea party

just like in the Eugene/Springfield area, where they are considering a sales tax to try and fund public safety.

government has already proven many times over that they can not manage their (our) money, there are so out of touch with the general populace that they don't care that a large number of major corporations are either laying off huge amounts of people are closing altogether.

it is long overdue for the public to tell the government that we are not a cash cow

Government needs to replace the tax income its losing to the Illegal Alien's (underground) cash-only economy.

The citizens of Oregon tell our public officials every time we vote. The problem is that they are relentless.

If they want to tax something then maybe they should tax all the wire transfers that go to Mexico. Tax it at a flat rate of say 80%...

I am thinking about doing "word verification" but I have run into an instance of it actually preventing me from posting a comment because the picture was "x'd" out. I do try to go through and delete the stuff as I run across it.

I hate that spam stuff. I really like the idea of taxing all wire transfers to mehico. You know, what with all of the cash that the illegals carry, and spend, I am more and more becoming in agreement that we need a sales tax. At least that way, we could get them some.

In 1999, Citizens for a Sound Economy, now FreedomWorks, with the help of chief sponsor Senator Jason Atkinson passed SB660 the "Internet Tax Ban". Without Sen. Atkinson’s help we may have not been successful.

Additionally in the 2005 session, we stopped an effort by Senate Democrats to pass an Oregon Internet sales tax. There is an effort every session to undo this land mark law.

FreedomWorks fights this battle every day in DC and the States. In Oregon we have 30,000 members who care about this and other issues. Please come to our website for more information.

Moreover if you wish to join the fight you can by becoming a member.
